Ya, as A high school student myself, I can safely say that the majority are very homophobic.. and misdirected. They think that all gay people want to **** anything that walks, and that scares most straight people. The problem is, if only one person comes out, they are excluded. If 2 people come out, they're a couple (even if they aren't), but if several come out, they're respected. It's kinda like Emos... power in numbers. My experience with gay friends is that they felt vulnerable alone, but with the support of others they were able to clear misconceptions, and make people realize that they're essentially the same person as when people thought that they were straight.
Also, Happy B-day D. Angel!!! I hope you ran around in your "suit" all day
So, just out of curiousity- is anyone planning on watching the Will and Grace series finale tomorrow night?
I'm sort of torn on Will and Grace. I find it funny, but I do find a lot of the gay jokes within it to be sort of meh. I don't really think it's offensive or anything, I just don't identify with any of the gay characters.

I haven't watched it in a long time and I don't have cable .... so probably not.

That's because they're clowns. It's a show that panders to the heterosexual view of what it is to be homosexual. And the characters exist only to provide the setup for the stereotypical punchline. They aren't real characters, they're exaggerations of what a gay character might be.
That said, both Eric McCormack and Megan Mullally are both awesome. And hot.
Indeed. I've always thought Eric was cute, but as Will he bugs me.
Karen is amazing, though, short and simple. The reason to watch the show.
I'm sort of jazzed about seeing Megan's talk show next year, also. Of all of the cast members, she's the one I foresee having the biggest career after the show.

I'm sort of scared she'll end up one of those performers who will forever be associated with one character. I think many might tune into her show expected Karen and then tune out when they find it's not.
That's a possibility, but I think she's probably engaging enough of a personality to carry herself, at least in the right environment. I think a talk show would be good for her, but if all else fails, she always has Broadway.
Meanwhile, Eric will be busy with the new comedy he is producing for Lifetime, so he'll be alright in the long run, I think.
Speaking of Lifetime, what do you guys think of my hot new look?

I love/hate the conception that doing anything but remaining ashamed and secretive about one's sexuality is "rubbing it in people's faces."
Being frank about your sexuality =/= Running around in a rubber harness and crotchless panties in a Pride parade.
Agreed. When I was outed at school in much the same way as gerg was, I refused to act ashamed or pretend there was nothing going on. I was very open and frank about it because I found the alternative repulsive.
Haven't posted in a while; haven't had much to say, unfortunately. I just wanted to jump in on the high school issue. From reading the other posts on the subject, I can see that my school is somewhat of an anomoly. My school has a population of roughly 3,500-3,600 students; several hundred staff/faculty as well. Given that number, people tend to mind their own business, stick with their own friends. It would be far too difficult for even the most prodigious bully to pick on all those whom he dislikes. Therefore, the level of homophobia is almost non-existent, such that I once walked from one end of campus to the other, and back again, while holding Chris's hand and giggling like schoolgirls. Pinkerton is a great place to be gay.
Photon Eater.... I love your banner I know a guy who remixed a dance version of "Thank You For Being a Friend". It was sweet!
Oh. and I'll not be watching the W&G finale except, perhaps, to say 'Good riddance!" The show was decent enough, but I call it "The Un-Gay Show". It a romantic dramady where half of the main characters are gay, yet you never see them face any realistic gay issues, engage in any meaningful gay relationship, or show any gay affection whatsoever. Hate it.
gerg, unless how you describe your actions here are vastly different than how you really behaive (we can't know for sure, after all), that teacher is an ass and likely is the type who is "ok with gay people as long as s/he doesn't have to think about them or encounter them in any way" and considers your actually being open about it as rubbing it in people's faces. From what you've said, all you've ever done is answer people's questions honestly. That's nowhere near rubbing it in. Even if you make an unprovoked comment once in a while, that's your friggin' perogative.
Hmm. As far as being open about being gay, I think it's the best thing to do. Unless you start dragging it into unrelated conversations.
"Hi there, nice to meet you. And by the way, I like men" is not good.
As far as Will & Grace, I'll miss the show Karen. A lot. But I'm sure Megan will go on to better(or at least different) things.
As a side note, I loved last week's episode. Mostly because of Bernadette Peters.
As a sideside note, yes, I agree that the show didn't really have anything to do with Will/Jack being gay, other than making all of the required jokes. Which is sort of irritating. But at the same time, it's a bit neat, because it's not the core of the show. In the current plot arc, for example, you could replace Will's boyfriend with a girl, and the entire thing wouldn't have to be rewritten. I'm not sure whether or not that's a good thing, but...
It's really not. In a lot of ways, it's worse to avoid issues than it is to make much ado about it.
Don't deny it, but don't start a conbersation up on it. That way, people wont care so much.
So basically you think he should never mention anything if it would remind people of any sexuality issues? Unless, of course, someone asks him first. That's hardly fair. He shouldn't have to keep a lid on things for the benefit of others. It's really none of their concern in the first place.
Well, he started other (I would say) more revealing/more shocking (but actually not that shocking, but it was shocking to several of the less mature people in our year) balls rolling, before the whole sexualtiy fiasco.
Huh?

I've noticed that in the past and I think it's more or less a good thing. Not every gay relationship is rife with Big Gay Issues. I would expect that it's even less an issue when you're in your thirties. So I feel that to make every relationship issue between gay characters on the show a Big Gay Issue, it belies the fact that for the most part gay and straight relationships are the same. They each carry a few specific issues (pregnancy is rarely an issue in gay relationships and closeted significant others isn't something straight couples deal with), but we're pretty much the same. I think the show would be doing somewhat of a disservice by portraying gay relationships as Big Gay Ordeals.
I know that sounds a bit hypocritical coming from me who only just criticized the show for not allowing the characters to be more than one-dimensional clowns, but I think a balance needs to be struck to be at all realistic. Which begs the question of if the show needs to be realistic at all.
I don't know if this has been pointed out, but in my opinion, the reason the show was able to survive is because it did not focus on gay characters. The primary focus of the show---no matter how gay it got sometimes---was the relationship between Will and Grace: a man and a woman. They had their own side things, but they were essentially a non-monogamous married couple. This was what kept non-gay viewers watching. Yes, Will (who was largely sex-less) had a few boyfriends here and there and wore Prada, but really, he was Grace's husband.
Yeah. It is. Don't deny it, but don't start a conbersation up on it. That way, people wont care so much.
I would agree, to an extent. To me, it's rather meaningless to bring up the fact that your gay for no reason. As in:
Person A: "Hey, I like apple pie."
Person B: "Amazing! So do I!"
Person C: "Mmm...apple pie is good. <3 <3 <3"
Person D: "Buttsex is fun!"
But then, if you were discussing buttsex, it would generally be annoying to others to randomly shift the conversation to apple pie. However, if you want to make a comment on the joys of combining appe pie with buttsex, then such shift makes perrfect sense.
Okay, maybe that was a bad example.
The point is, there's no point randomly bringing it up simply for the sake of saying it. That said, so long as there is a legitimate reason, it should be accepted. It won't always be, but i don't think your the one doing wrong in that scenario. Now, if you bring it up for the purpose of getting funny reactions or geerally messing with people, well then, you reap what you sow.

So I have an interesting story to share. My roommate(for the purpose of protecting the innocent, we'll call her "Grace") used to date a guy from our school(we'll call him "Captain Jack Sparrow"). About a year ago, Mr. Sparrow broke up with Grace, and left her rather distraught. Although they were broken up, they continued to see each other and be naughty, naughty little children. This continued for a while, even after Captain Jack got another girlfriend(we'll call her Queen Latifa). Eventually, Grace and Captain Jack Sparrow cut there ties and began to move on with their lives. Although Grace was having a particularly hard time moving on. Then, one day not too long ago, Grace met someone new(we'll call him Gangsta McThug). Petty soon, she was smiling and laughing again. Things were getting better.
Then, last night, Grace, Gangsta McThug, and I(we'll call me El Stud) went to go play pool at the house of some very close friends of Gangsta McThug. Now, you have to understand, Gangsta regarded the people in this house as his family. As soon as we pulled up there, El Stud realized that he had been here before. A friend of his(who we'll call WellofLostGnomes) had brought him there to meet his friend: Queen Latifa.
El Stud revealed to Gangsta and Grace what he knew, and Gangsta decided to go check if Latifa was home. While he was inside, Grace did the math. She had been a sinful little girl while Captain Jack was with Queen Latifa. Queen Latifa was Gangsta's little sister. She now had the choice of hiding something and hurting her current relationship, or revealing and potentially causing problems for both her relationship and that of her ex.
After the initial shock of the situation, we found it pretty funny. Small world, huh?

I'll miss Karen too. I'm upset that I missed last night's final episode. I decided a foray into the world of Starbucks was in order so I took my book and ventured out to 4 different starbucks in my area. I must say people watching is fun at starbucks! I guess technically I did go to a Java and Boba too but that's much less interesting... not to belie the fact that that entire paragraph is uninteresting just saying that java and boba is less so
Cameron: GET YOUR PHONE TO WORK!!! Sheesh! Must I resort to texting you when my computer is on the fritz? I wanted to talk more 'bout the book as it's getting increasingly amazing.
Mikey: You have PM.
Wish I had time to read the majority of what you guys were talking about. I guess no one has seen any of the Maverick's playoffs games and the season finales of Veronica Mars, America's Next Top Model, Grey's Anatomy and or plans to watch Charmed, CSI, Desperate Housewives season finales and the movies Da Vinci Code, X-Men, and or Stick It? I will be so glad when this season of shows is over because I know re-runs won't keep me occupied.
Was anyone else disappointed with Kingdom Hearts II? Sorry to throw that out there as a secondary thought.
Cameron: GET YOUR PHONE TO WORK!!! Sheesh! Must I resort to texting you when my computer is on the fritz? I wanted to talk more 'bout the book as it's getting increasingly amazing.
Well, my computer is working just fine, actually, it's just that for the past few weeks I've been working an abnormally large buttload of hours. I really do need to buy a new phone. Maybe next weekend *shrug* In any event, I'll make sure my phone is operational during the evening.
And yes, the book will continue to get amazing. Ayn Rand has a certain propensity for uber-ness found in all Russian authors.

X-Men
Heh. I always thought that movie made a great allegory for the gay condition; turns out, that's intentional. The director of the first two movies and at least one of the screenwriters is gay. They have intentionally made mutants a metaphor for homosexuals. Huh.
There's even a line in the new film, the second film (;)) where a young mutant tells his mother what he is (a sort of coming out); she responds, "Well, have you ever tried not being a mutant?" How much more blatant could you get?
EDIT: Haven't seen the movies, just going on what I was told; thanks for the correction.

I will be watching Charmed. Last week's was pretty crazy, but it steals some of the drama when you know it's just going to be undone. Frankly, I wish this season never existed. Some of the episodes were good and the Billie/Christy storyline had promise, but it turned into an idiot plot. (ie., a plot where the problem would be instantly resolved if one of the characters, in this case Billie, was not a complete idiot.) "Could my sister, who spent the last 10 years being raised by demons and transformed practically overnight from a crippled, terrified girl with no knowledge of her power into a confident and downright bossy adept who suddenly seemed to know more about the greater good than anyone else and has absolutely nothing on her mind than killing the Charmed Ones possibly be wrong or have some sort of alterior motive? Nah...." It's just irritating. Last season's finale was the perfect ending to the series. It should have stayed that way.
Stick It will probably be an enjoyable but dumbed-down version of Bring It On (to those of you wondering if that's possible... yes). I will not be seeing The DaVinci Code unless dragged there, and it has been getting gleefully bad reviews. This is not the "Jaws" of movies made from books, it's the "anything else Peter Benchly has ever written made into a movie". X-Men 3 I will see, and I will probably be clad in scandalous attire as it opens on IML weekend. I don't have high expectations; the fans who saw script spoilers pretty much agree this director is ruining the franchise; and the subtitle pretty much infers that there will not be an X4. However, from the previews it looks like a non-stop orgy of mutant power ass-kicking displays and dozens of classic characters thrown in. That alone will be worth the price of admission even if the plot is hollow.

That was actually in the second movie, but yeah it was exactly like a "coming out" scene. That's the beauty of the X-Men comics: since the beginning they've always addressed the topic of fear and predjudice against those who are different. Homos just happen to be the flavor of the decade that it applies to.
I'm interested in X-Men 3, and I watched the first half of the CSI season finale, plus bits and pieces of the second half.
I hope X-Men 3 turns out decently, but...we shall see. At least there's always Shadowcat.
Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand, one of my personal favorite books. Plus, the movie rights have recently been acquired by Lion's Gate, and it is rumored that Brad Pitt will be playing the role of a very important character; hott.

And yes, the book will continue to get amazing. Ayn Rand has a certain propensity for uber-ness found in all Russian authors.
Heh. I always thought that movie made a great allegory for the gay condition; turns out, that's intentional. The director of the first two movies and at least one of the screenwriters is gay. They have intentionally made mutants a metaphor for homosexuals. Huh.
There's even a line in
the new film, the second film (;)) where a young mutant tells his mother what he is (a sort of coming out); she responds, "Well, have you ever tried not being a mutant?" How much more blatant could you get?EDIT: Haven't seen the movies, just going on what I was told; thanks for the correction.

She knows why.
I hope X-Men 3 turns out decently, but...we shall see. At least there's always Shadowcat.
What book is this book being discussed?
Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand, one of my personal favorite books. Plus, the movie rights have recently been acquired by Lion's Gate, and it is rumored that Brad Pitt will be playing the role of a very important character; hott.
