Woah there, settle down! Some of the best cards are the simplest. Too many abilities makes a card complicated and difficult to use. Let's stick with charge counters, etc. I just thought of something though. Why not have the card remove X counters and deal X damage when triggered by a spell? Say, whenever you play a sorcery, put a charge counter on it, whenever you play an instant, remove X etc., or vice versa.

Only problem with that is there are a lot more usable instants than sorceries. The only sorcery i ever use is compulsive research.
Very true. Nevertheless, I like it having a trigger ability rather than activated. What are some Izzet-y triggered abilities out there, other than dealing damage? Drawing cards, perhaps?

I like the idea of using the ability hurting you. I can see both of them being Izzet, as the first one is obviously hurting yourself in some giant explosion, while the second is burning some books by accident during an experiment. Only thing is, can we bring both cards together? I don't think so, but that's just me. We have 2 weeks to do this, so right now is only the brainstorm process. I would like to get as many cards in as possible, and then try to use the best one.

Lol, that + Niv = death. i like it, but it may b a tad too broken b/c constant fireballs/blazes/invokes are eviler than rakdos. Hmm, remember when a couple threads back we made a izzet mage for each of us? i remember some of those were good.
I love your idea but it might be more playable if the abilities completed each other:

redX: deal X damage to all opponent's creatures; That player draws X cards.
I think that would be better but might be the begining of a good start!

That wouldn't work. Why would Izzet play a bunch of creatures other than Keiga or Moloku? Basicly you're drawing cards without drawback.

Easily destroyable by T2 Cards(mortify, seed sparks) and needs spells played to be very powerful
It is really a card that could have went along withguildpact.

Here's my modification and suggestion for the card.

I dunno how broken this is, but I wanted to have a tutoring ability attached. It makes the card more central to the Izzet sort of style.

That card is quite good. A bit perverse a blue ability damaging so well, but the card is good. Themewise, it may need to tutor for instants/sorceries, but that's left for the discretion of people smarter than I am. (pretty much anyone else :xd:)

Well, simply put, all we have to do is come up with four or five really good card ideas and then vote on which we want to represent the guild in the contest.
That said; let's come up with an idea for a creature card.
Blue and Red both feature timmies, mages, and draconic flyers.
Maybe a gold wizard legend riding a dragon/drake, or a split cost tim?
Let's do what Izzet does best - come up with crazy ideas!
Edit: Here's a crazy idea; what about a Human Wizard Berserker that does something cool when you sacrifice it with a cost? Goblin Flectomancer opened up an entire realm of possibilities.
Themewise, wouldn't Izzet be more towards instants/sorceries, and not creatures? I guess I'll have to make a gold creature over the next day or so. Should it have only one activated ability?

I'm going to go with the combination of sedie's counters and my Guildmaster Van card and shop a card together later. That, and I'll definately shop a card for the Wizard Berserker.
It sounds a little azorius to me.....I think something with damage is more us.
