R_E's version of the card is very similar to the original, with the exception of the opponent gets first pick of critter. I don't like the "equal to the amount of counters" I think it should read less than or equal to.
Just my opinion. I may change my mind though.

Hmmm....I suppose equal to less than would be okay. Though if it sticks to equal then the deck would need to be a little more specific. Mainly with the mana curve on the low end having a large and dynamic variety. Do we want to go with more restrictions or loosen it up a little. Having equal to less than would loosen things up a little for an already interesting card.

Ok, the card seems to keep getting bigger and bigger text wise. Call me lazy, but I am a little intimidated when I first see verbose card text. I took out the X factor, the counters and tried to word it more simply. I also brought the cost back down to 2 and gave the opponent the first fetch.
Mage's Summons - GG
Enchantment (R)
When Mage’s Summons comes into play, target opponent searches his or her library for a creature card, puts it into play, and then shuffles his or her library.

I am still not sure about how well this represents the Called. I would suggest "Called" be in the flavor text for sure. The card's name may need some help also. Or maybe we should scrap this card all together, it's the whole clans decision so chime in each of you.

Why does your opponent get a card before you do. That's awful..they get a free card and then just disenchant your spell. It would be like if howling mine said 'When this comes into play, target opponent draws a card'. If it said both players get to search for a guy right away, that'd be fine.

Well, sealed games tend to be slower, so try + play more fat, but still keep a decent curve. I played 15 lands, two were colourless + one was on-colour bounceland, + 3 signets, one on colour. ~18 mana sources should work if you have a decent curve + colour balance. I still got mana flooded one game >_<
Everyone today seemed to be playing :symu::symg: splash or (or both, like me :() OR :symr:symb:.

Don't you hate it when your extended family gets mad at you, but because of the language barrier get too frusterated to tell you, so you keep on doing whatever you've been doing and they simmer in anger untill they explode at you and have no idea why? Yeah...I really need to hit the road again.
Ooh, the basics...yeah thats cool. Mostly simic huh....interesting. Even with 18 mana sorces I'd still be worried with only 15 land.
I don't remember if Guildpack will be in this one....been a while since I was at the third prerelease in a set.
I was actualy asking if there was any specific mechanic that worked well in scealed or if there was any specific build that just worked better than the others. I guess simic is a good idea.

When ~ comes into play, target opponent searches his or her library for a creature card, puts it into play, then shuffles his or her library. Put a number of life counters on ~ equal to that creature's converted mana cost.
At the beginning of your upkeep, you may remove a life counter from ~. If you do, search your library for a creature card with converted mana cost equal to the number of life counters on ~, put it into play, then shuffle your library. Any player may play this ability.

The thing with "less than or equal to" means that you wouldn't need your deck to be as finely tuned. Your opponnent would be able to just fetch out anything from his deck each time, not having to think too much about what creature to "start" with because no matter what he picks, he'll be able to get out his smaller creatures next time and the time after that, etc. It would really make the card TOO flexible IMO. Remember that we need the card to be specific so that a certain deck needs to be built around it - that's the next contest! If we make it specific, we'll be able to make a really cool deck that works exactly with the card. Also, it has cool flavour. It's like it pumps out smaller and smaller creatures until eventually it stops. Kinda like a collapsing creature portal.

I've tried to figure out what you meant by this but this already seems to be how I worded it. The counter comes off during the upkeep, and the search ability triggers. I put them on the same line, so that it only triggers if the counter comes off. I guess it wouldn't have to be that way, but I don't see a big difference/advantage either way.

Your opponent DOES get a card from Howling Mine before you do. I guess that's how we can allow the card to be two mana or so - your opponent gets first use. But I get what you meant... the opponent shouldn't get TWO uses. My wording was flawed. I'll fix that below (it wasn't intended to do that).
Quote from rianalnn »
Hmm, yes, new version of our card is stains. . .
Well, taking into account everything here, maybe we can come up with something else.
I was worried about my version because your opponent, being the smart person they are, could just choose to search for a 1cc creature. Then you get... a 0cc creature, and the process is done. Probably a bad outcome.
What do you guys think about setting the number of counters? This cleans up the wording a little, and prevents the aforementioned problem.
~ comes into play with 7 life counters on it.
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, he or she may remove a life counter from ~, then search his or her library for a creature card with converted mana cost equal to the number of life counters on ~, put it into play, and shuffle his or her library.
Notes:
- much tighter
- life counters could be called something else
- note that this set number will give your opponent the chance at creatues with converted mana cost 6, 4, 2, and 0. You will get creatures with converted mana cost 5, 3, and 1.
- not exactly sure if "Trigger, then do this, that, and this." is the right wording...
I wonder if 8 makes more sense. Then your opponent gets the 7, 5, 3, and 1... and you get the 6, 4, 2, and 0. (Keep in mind, many opponents won't have a 7cc creature, and even if they do, your 6cc creature might be Dark Hatchling... decks built around this card would be massive cool!)
So I had a dream that I was playing on the top of some military truck, used to cage something it seems, that was driving down the road very fast. Kinda fear factor style, but this wasn't fear factor. Then some narator came on and said something to the affect that "this is all fun and games but what if the car hits a pothole." Then the dream shows the car fly off the road leaving me suspended in slow motion and falling as the narrator says that "though he is traveling Xmph, he is falling verticaly at a rate of blah, ever see a car with bad shocks hit the ground? Its not pretty folks." Strange thing was it was fully illistrating the examples and gave numbers to the rate of falling that I am not sure I actualy know in real life. You ever have a dream like that, spouting facts and statistics that you think you never knew to begin with?

I really like the idea of a collapsing portal. Sounds fairly unique to me. I also like the idea of how we will know what the counters on our side will be thus we can tinker it to perfection. My only thought is that you are right in saying that most people wont have a 7cc or 8cc in their decks essentialy giving us the first drop. Course if our deck became dominant they may just sideboard something or even main deck something in. So it doesn't matter too much. Maybe we should take a quick look at what cip abilities are available for their cc's before we chose 7cc or 8cc...just to give our next contest a little of a head start.

That's never happened to me. Sure I've had plenty a dream with statistics, but they are all ones I know. Hell, I've been known to calculate out of stats in my dreams before.
Oh, and you all won't be hearing from me in the next week or so probably. See, I've been completely ignoring my differential equations class all semester. This isn't a horrible thing necessarily though, as I can replace my grad in the class with whatever I get on the final. This does, however, mean that I have to learn a full semester's worth of differential equations in the next two weeks (well, technically one week so I have time to study for the finals in my other classes.)

Yeah, occasionally. Usually my dreams are the opposite of my consciousness, that is, they're very emotional and illogical. But sometimes I'll come up with theories, very complicated and seemingly correct and pround stuff. But I don't remember it when I wake up. Doh!

The idea of a "collapsing portal" is great, but that can't be the name, unless it's an artifact. And I don't think an artifact would be so creature - based. This is pretty clearly green. Besides, making it green gives it more Called flavour. You're right about the opponent often not getting a creature the first time. I mean, if your deck is well done, and your opponent's luck is bad, they'll get NOTHING from it, and you'll get three creatures. Still, three creatures over three turns, for an initial mana investment, the fact that it's a fragile permanent, and that you have to rely on luck and a specific deck construction... it's not exactly broken.
Still not sure if 7 or 8 counters is best (6cc or 7cc creature for your opponent's first upkeep). Also, name? Mana cost?
Evolutionary Chain :symg::symg:
Enchantment
At the beggining of your upkeep, put a life counter on Evolutionary Chain.
At the beggining of each players upkeep, they may search their library for a creature card with a converted mana cost of the number of life counters on Evolutionary Chain and put it into play.
Kind of a neat alternative. Since the Called GROW rather than DIE.
In other news:
Megan is comming over tommorow!! Yay!
We are thinking of going to see Ice Age 2: The MoneyMaker.
I'll say how that goes tommorow
I think i prefer the portal closing. I like that three creatures come in on both sides and think the GG mana cost is adequate.
Prerelease!
Okay, so Flight 1....I created an Orzhov deck. With the exception of one card, a selesna evangel.
I open my packs and see tons of removal. We're talking three Seal of Doom, Keening Banshee, Clinging Darkness, Unliving Psychopath, And stinkweed imp. White had removal too in the Faith's fetters. But white was mostly for evasion as I had two Freewind Equenauts, beacon hawk, and a Guardian of the Guildpack. Some other synergy stuff too, thoughtpicker witch and paria shield.
No bombs, but lots of quick cheap creatures and plenty of removal. I predicted going far with this deck.
Opponent 1.....um......0-2
Opponent 2.....yeah....mulligan three times in two games....0-2
Opponent 3.....with the lowest standing they gave me a bye...drop.
So flight 2. I don't open much removal but it seems my deck is to be tailor made simic, selesnya, azorius.....in all equal parts. Devouring light and Stasis Cell were my only removal. But I did have bombs...Tolsimir, Experimental Kraj, and Leafdrak Roost. I also had some neat synergy going on at times...Vigean Graftmage and a Freewind Equanaut with a Ocular Halo was fun. The best in game entertainment was the Freewind with the Halo and Beacon Hawk....that did the most damage. I never got my Halo on my simic ragworm though...that was sad.
The games went by and I had alot of fun. When all was said and done I had gone 3-1 and won six packs....not bad. I was really happy about that.

(Keep in mind, many opponents won't have a 7cc creature, and even if they do, your 6cc creature might be Dark Hatchling... decks built around this card would be massive cool!)
.
Okay, back to labeling cards as, "that one card that does..." for me.

Also, name? Mana cost?
.
Reverse the process.
Kind of a neat alternative. Since the Called GROW rather than DIE.

K, you asked for pics. My webcam isn't great, so obviously they aren't the best quality but here goes:
Sorry Trav, no naked pics for you.
So, I'm pretty happy with the haircut, it layered well and goes kinda to a V-point at the back. I woulda shown you guys but I couldn't get a pic of my own back, heh. You get the idea without it.
Anyways, I've gotta be up early tomorrow for an eye appointment. Gotta keep the contacts. Night all.

I got a question for alex, I was looking around in my bathroom which is currently under construction and saw this:
I know your name is alex, but is that by any chance where you got your name? If not I guess you got some kind of caulk product named after you :xd:
