To join The Izzet, please post the following in this thread:

Be sure to keep it in this format. Do not PM anyone or post anywhere other than this thread or your application will be ignored. Also read the High Mage/Apprentice Rules below.
Posting Rules As of Monday, January 30th, all members of [The Izzet] are expected to post a MINIMUM of once a week. If a member does not post within a week, they will be considered unactive and put in the Portal, unless they can give a good reason, preferably prior to their absence. Playtesting Groups With Guildpact only days away, we Izzet are eager to start testing our mad, mad decks as soon as possible. We have organized a playtesting group which will primarily use Magic Workstation, but will use Apprentice on occasion. For the time being, only members of our clan will be in this group, but in the near future we may add members from other clans. Here is a list of members who have provided their MSN e-mails:
High Mage/Acolyte/Apprentice Rules Each new member that joins must choose a High Mage to apprentice under that has less than an Acolyte and no Apprentices. In the event that every High Mage has an Acolyte and an Apprentice, and a new member wishes to join, they may pick any High Mage to Apprentice under, and the first Apprentice of that High Mage becomes a High Mage with their own area of expertise. They will also be offered a place in The Council, (The Izzet elite) according to their seniority in the clan.
I was always wondering what kind of magic players everyone considers themselves. Timmy, Johnny, or Spike?
I'm a Spike who's on a bad run.
Just had a draft tonight, started out Boros and moved into Izzet, btu didn't get the neccessary mana fixers for a reliable mana base. The sad thing is, when I finally lost, it was because Dimir Guildmage showed up before any of my removal spells (helix and 2 pyromatics).
Peel From Reality is Ridiculous.
And I'm still wondering if anyone is going to GP: Richmond.

I consider myself to be 90% Spike, but it can't be helped if I am impressed with a really cool combo. Granted, it has to be really effective, but I'll try any good combo. Also, I consider myself to be a rogue player, as Tier 1-2 decks get me really frustrated and bored at times. I'll play a top Tier deck in a tournament, but I'm always trying to find new ways to make good decks.

Thanks to Charlie Donaldson for Banner Straight Member of the Gaymers
Hey guys, long time no post! I'm glad to see you're still using the original banner I made! I have been dwelling on this new damage combo and made my wonderful new sig. Thought I'd stop by here and show it off first!
I included Quicken because it would allow you to go off during your opponents turn. Now THAT'S tech!
I don't know what are the Johnny and Spike, but I'm definitely not a Timmy.
But I'm looking forward to knowing who are Spike and Johnny after all, so please tell me
Hmm.. I think that Phalanx should be mentioned in "Members, who have left"
Cheers for that, Canada Man. Also, I advise the Izzet to start using MWS if they woulfd like to be included in playtest sessions.
There are three "personas' in MTG.
The first one is Timmy. Timmy likes to play. Timmy likes the game. Timmy likes huge, game swaying spells, be them creatures, enchantments, or anything that looks really mean.
Timmy will go to tournaments with a deck with a minimum casting cost of 6. If Timmy wins 1/10 games, but during that game, he gets to drop his huge guys and totally dominate the opponent, Timmy walks away happy.
Timmy decks: Decks over 60 cards, with 20 land and a minimum casting cost of 4.
The second is Johnny. Johnny likes card interactions. The more complex a card interacts with another card, the more he likes it. Johnny is the guy that comes up with most rogue deck ideas, but especially those that build up into a win in a single, drawn out, complex turn. In other words, Johnny is the combo player.
Good examples of Johnny decks are Ironworks or, the classic johnny deck: Prosbloom.
The third is Spike. Spike likes to win. He plays whatever will win the most games. He doesn't care about the deck's content, as long as it the best, most consistent deck in the format. He will invest in any card that improves the consistancy of his deck even slightly. Spike is the guy you see walking into an extended tournament with a mana base like this:
Lands (23)
4 Windswept heath
4 Flooded Strand
4 Temple Garden
4 Sacred Foundry
4 Stomping Ground
1 Minamo, School at Water's edge
1 Oboro, Palace in the Clouds
1 Okina, Temple to the Grandfathers
Spike decks: Affinity, Gifts.
Johnny spike is the player type that will come up with rogue decks that randomly go on to win nationals. A good example is Tooth and Nail.
Spike Timmy: A player that plays to win, using undercosted creatures with big power/toughness to dominate the opponent. Loxodon hierarch or Ravenous Baloth are good examples of this.
I like pie.
EDIT: Faust, "The Council" is spelt like that, not "The Counsil"
hm...i hafta disagree with YOUR definitions of J/T/S mr Wuffles_II
(but everyone is free to speak up their mind right? oh well...nvm)
i disagree bcoz i think it'd confuse those who really dont knw about what J/T/S really stands for...(according to MaRo)
bcoz cmon man, u made it seems so illogical! (um, not really but i cant came up with a better word)
how the hell a timmy can build a 60++ deck for tournament will a MINIMUM cc of 6...for all card except land? n johnny the combo playa? johnny doesnt need to b a combo player....u nailed the interaction part tho bcoz johnny like card interaction but not just card interaction which tends to be combo-ish...what i wanted to say is that johnny is more than that...
well, altho i hate that guy, i like MaRo explanation better bcoz when i check the full spoiler for odyssey i did make/made a mental note on the yumminess of two out of the three card that he listed on that example...(which r/is battle of wits n holistic wisdom)
yeah...*hi, ima johnny...how do you do?*

johnny/spike doesnt just RANDOMly go on to win the nationals....n u made a bad example by using tooth_n_nail.dck
c'mon, tooth n nail....random? pfhhh
theres a reason that ppl choose to use tooth & nail n also why it is THE deck to beat some time ago (when mirrodin is still legal...n also after th nerfing of affinity...now, mayb in xtended...but i dont really knw)...n i think it fell into the rarest hybrid group of all which is johnny/timmy/spike, NOT just johnny/spikey
Hey guys how's it going, I got a couple of things:
1) Woot new thread is up!
2) So to get in on the playtest sessions, I just need to get my MWS setup and then msg someone on MSN to see if they have time to play?
3) I'd have to say that I'm a Johnny because I like the combo decks
4) I just realized something. Hey Wuffles have you noticed that under your sig you have that you are 9th Magus of the Council, but if you look under our rankings on the first page you are 8th Magi of the Council? Just thought I'd point it out.
I'm a Johnny/Spike. Izzet is definatly Johnnylicious.
As for MWS I am using it currently to set up decks to play my friends at school. As for online use, I am not really proficient in using the interface of MWS. I will probably learn to use it this week so I can test the deck. I will probably end up changing it more after I seriosly play it online. Because every game I play with my friends is casual. We try to play DCI rules sometimes but it ends up we get pissed off to much at it lol.
[card=Dismal Failure]"Two magi could trade spells all day and never crown a victor.

Reporting in guys. Lucky post #13. As for the player types I'm really not sure. I go through different player phases. Right now I'm really interested in tornaments but then a few months from now I'll probably want to go back to casual.

Yeah...I took the player type test...and got the most glorious of results. You are: A Timmy/Johnny/Spike!
Joy of joys, a personality complex for an izzet member...Danger anyone?
Honestly I'd have to say that I'm more of a Johnny. I don't go all-out when making my own decks, so the lack of rares tends to elad to pretty innovative rogue decks. Last year a friend of mine decided that since he needed new decks, every Saturday, he and I, along with another friend, would go to the basement of my dorm and build decks from his collection. All we needed to do was provide our own land. The first night saw me as the victor...I went peasant and made a GW life gain deck featuring of course Armadillo Cloak and a few pain in the ass fliers that didn't tap to attack. It was my frist real triumph...it was agaisnt an Arcbound/Geth's Grimoire idea and a UB ninja reanimate deck. I was proud of myself. Even more so when I learned that the host of the event kept my deck together for adjustments. The other two he scrapped.
I've taken the test a few times before, and I've thought about my own play style and deckbuilding style and have come to the conclusion that i am a Johnny/Spike.
I like new and inetersting decks, and i always look through the spoilers for a card that i can find a new interaction with.
If i see a decklist that looks fun and is something that people have never heard of, i'll try it out just to see how fun it is to play with.
Finally, just last night i came up with a devious card interaction. I don't want to reveal it now since this is a public forums, but it's REALLY COOL, and it happens with cards people would NEVER EVEN THINK OF PLAYING EVER.
[devious laugh]MUahahahahahha.....BOOOOM........ha............ha...........[/devious laugh]
BweeBwee, don't you remember? The devious laughter is booked by Rakdos, we use [mad scientific laughter]Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-BOOOOM-oh-ho-ho[/mad scientific laughter]. Talking about laughter, what do you think, which laughter Dimir use? Maybe something like [secretive laughter]?
oh, i apoligize, my mistake indeed. But I suppose i'll have to give away some info and say it would have to be devious simic/selesnya/azorious laughter if it was anything. I was just laughing deviously because its cool, and my idea is a secret, so i suppose dimir laughter would work too.
guys, my URg idea so far is turning out very well. I am still looking forward to testing agains Boros deck wins and Gifts. SO far it has shelled BGw, emminent Domain, and form. I will make a deck list upon completion.
Yeah, I'm definitely a johnny/spike according to the article, and I think that's right.
Random comboness is fun, and when paired with good cards it's even ... funnerer[?]. As for U/R. I have 2 decks with it at the moment: the first is Eye of the Storm, and the second is this random 4-color Ghostway deck. [Izzet Chronarch+Ghostway is some good, though I may use Scrivener.]
Dimir uses [mad scientist laughter], too. Just in a different context. See, they use Izzet inventions to get Dimir information! So.
Everyone needs the Izzet in some way. [mad scientist laughter]

Some people from your clan ranted about a post of mine in your last clan thread. I do want to apologize for my behavior. It is true I should have thought more about that post before I did actually post. I did not mean in any way to insult any clan. What I truly meant to say was I like my clan because it had people like me in it. The part where I mentioned your clan was worded very wrong. I do respect the izzet. I am a person who loves the storylines of magic as much or even more than the play of them and the izzet is AWSOME. I was only stating that you are a perfect representation of the storyline izzet and that I liked that. Again I am truly sorry and how that those individual and this whole clan can forgive me and that we can be friends. I wish no hard feelings on any clan. If you deem me worthy please make me an official friend of this clan. If you don't I understand.
Wow... Did I just witness an Orzhov grovel? Either way, as long as there's a heartfelt appology, I can forgive, and I'm sure the rest of the clan can too. As for the friendship, consider yourself a friend. But don't do it again...:)
