Anime of the year for me? There's been quite a few standouts, but I'll have to vote
Humanity has Declined
The show had EVERYTHING. Humour? Check. Dark humour? Also check. Cynicism? Yep. Satire? Plenty. Believable/real personalities? Overflowing. Insanity? Plenty.
I mean, any work that manages to totally make fun of society in 24 minutes (or a 60-70 page chapter) gets my automatically thumbs up.
Humanity has Declined was superb. I feel like this year has been a great one for anime, and I'm looking forward to the new year to see what it brings us.
On an unrelated note, I just finished Steins;Gate, and it was superb. It's already on my list of my 9 favorite anime. I feel like when it came out it was kind of overshadowed by Madoka, but I really do feel the series is a gem. It was so...visceral I guess. I felt everything that Okabe did, and suffered with him. I also enjoyed the pacing after the fact, but during it felt odd. The show really picks up as it rushes towards its conclusion. It was an emotional rollercoaster for me and easily one of my favorite anime.
Steins;Gate is one of those shows that's on my to-watch list and I honestly can't remember why I put it there. It's also pretty far down, so I'll probably be even more confused whenever I get around to watching it (the current series I'm going through is the not-actually-anime Avatar, so yeah).
I don't think I'll watch it till I get around watching the previous season. With that said, I'm actually glad that Sakurasou hasn't ended yet. Just started watching OniAi too and it's been... well. Let's just say I have found another anime that rivals Kiss x Sis and To Love-ru Darkness.
Since Nekomonogatari is a prequel to Bakemonogatari, it's not wholly necessary to watch Bake and Nise first... Lack of Senjougahara makes me sad face. Plenty of Hanekawa and Fire Sisters though...
I am excited for A Certain Scientific Railgun Season 2!
<sigh> You crazy kids and yer futuristic high speed on-line streams. In my day, we had to drive ten miles to get to the local brick and mortar for our anime... on crappy VHS! I'll probably get around to watching SAO and Bakemonogatari someday.
I'm halfway through ef~A Tale of Melodies. I recently finished watching episode 6...:o

I'd take VHS over having to freak every time I couldn't make it home to watch it on local TV. And God, don't even get me started on how bad the dubs were. *shudders*
I've watched Nekomonogatari 1 and 2, and am about to watch 3. Also checking if 4 is up subbed.
Last night I downloaded and watched Bakemonogatari in Bluray and...wow. Just wow. It is beautiful. Watching my favorite series in Bluray is a very satisfying experience. I believe when I go to Fanime this year I'll look for a copy of the series so I can own it.
Anyway, with the year coming to a close, I hope Singer won't mind, I was curious as to people's picks for anime of the year? I'm personally rooting for SAO, although I believe Fate/Zero is eligible. If it is, it's tough for me. I'd probably give the edge to SAO, as I believe the latter half of the second season of Fate/Zero was overall the worst, even though I still loved it.
I'm never against having a good discussion, especially when I'm not around to provide a topic. You people should realize that there is no strict policy about it: you are not forbidden to discuss things that I don't put in the first post, those are just some ideas for those times when no one posts, and we need a slight push to keep things alive around here.
I've been pondering my top-5 of this year a while back, and I ended up with something like this:
- Jinrui wa Suitai shimashta. As has already been said, this show has everything, but the best qualities of it are excellent script and perfect heroine. Yes, I said it, she's perfect, and there's nothing you can do to prove me wrong. It was also a great show to start watching after a very tiresome and scary summer exams, so bonus points for that.
- Fate/Zero. I can't think of any other show that made me feel so many emotions this year. When I finished marathoning all the episodes I missed (the show got to around episode 23, I think), I was little more than a broken husk that could no longer cry.
- Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou. Certainly got the most "Hey, I'd do the same exact thing" points this year. The humor gets all the better when you realize that it's so real, and it pains me that the manga has already ended.
- Sakamichi no Apollon. It might have been a bit melodramatic at times, but it certainly got the best music of the year, and I don't even mean the OST. I love music, and I could see that the producers love it, too.
- Accel World. Its plot might be naive and silly, but the world that it paints is so detailed and interesting, you can't help but wonder about your own duel avatar and how it could affect your life.
And now, with the year 2012 behind us, the season of Winter 2013 is upon us. What are you going to watch from it?
As it happens every year, this Winter season doesn't seem to be that rich with major titles, which means that I'm going to do a lot of catching-up. For now, these are the shows I'm sure to follow:
- Psycho-Pass, Robotics;Notes, JoJo, Shin Sekai Yori. Still airing, still awesome, and are all about to enter their strongest phase.
- Puchim@su! I love im@s, and Puchim@su is a great silly take on its characters. The manga is great, and the anime seems to be doing it justice so far.
- MaoYuu: Maou Yuusha. If you're a fan of Spice & Wolf, I recommend you to pay close attention to this show. You will learn of the amazing power of the potato, enjoy lots of useless meat, and hear a lot of familiar voice actors. The designs are not the best they could use, but we'll see how it works when the first episode airs.
- Sasami-san@Ganbaranai. It's Shaft's new show, what else do you want me to say? And it actually feels like Shaft this time, so go for it, fans of anime ridiculousness.
- Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai NEXT. The first season was pretty enjoyable, which is a good enough reason to watch the second one. Maybe they will have more Rika and less Yozora this time.
And with that, I leave you to watch the series that I dreamed of today: Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon. When the world tells you to watch something, I tend to oblige.
PS: Oh, right, speaking of Fate: the first volume of Fate/Apocrypha is out, and it's shaping out to be one of the most entertaining sides of the franchise to date. Double the Servants, double the fun!
And now, with the year 2012 behind us, the season of Winter 2013 is upon us. What are you going to watch from it?
I usually wait until a few first episode reviews are up to watch stuff from the current season. I'm also going to continue following Magi, which should be ending soon, Ixion Saga DT, which is pretty hilariously bad, but fun, and Little Busters! I've been thoroughly enjoying Key's new work, after Clannad's continuous tugging of my heart strings, it's nice to have something that is a bit more light-hearted for the most part.
I'm also planning on clearing out some of my backlog, ideally finishing Daily Lives of High School Boys, Katanagatari, which I have been watching with my friend for months at this point, but lining up schedules has been tough, maybe finishing Sengoku Basara as well. I also hope to start on Great Teacher Onizuka, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, and Cromartie High.
Isn't that the show with a JoJo fangirl? I might give it a try just for her.
MaoYuu started well, but I still feel like the manga was more enjoyable for some reason. Though it didn't have some great scenes, so the anime gets some points for that. I miss the anachronistic details, like the graphs, but it still works fine, I suppose.
Maoyuu vs Spicy Wolf... only thing I see so far that they have in common is Jun Fukuyama and Ami Koshimizu... (which means that you can similarly compare it to Code Geass, Nyanpire or Saki to an extent) Looking at the cast list I also see me some Celty (Miyuki Sawashiro) and Hinagiku (Shizuka Itou). Therefore, I am looking forward to seeing where the series goes. The first episode seems interesting enough.
I literally fell out of my chair laughing at the end of the first episode when Maou takes off her horns. That was her only distinguishing feature to mark her as a demon. I wonder if that means that the rest of the demons look like that too...
I'm not sure about the light novel designs, but in the manga, most demons look pretty demonic, though it does vary from other girls with horns to huge beastmen and dragons.
It is different from Spice & Wolf, but the general theme is still the same: economics, even if on a different scale. Another point that they share is the director, which is most probably not accidental.

Is the sub up yet? I've been looking and only finding raws. Although I haven't checked in hours, I'm eagerly anticipating it.

It's like Spice and Wolf, with a bit more fanservice. Still interested to see how it pans out though.
Also, I love Akino Arai songs.
Alas, I haven't encountered any besides Tamako Market. Hopefully I'll stumble upon them or run across some recommendations offline.
MaoYuu started well, but I still feel like the manga was more enjoyable for some reason. Though it didn't have some great scenes, so the anime gets some points for that. I miss the anachronistic details, like the graphs, but it still works fine, I suppose.
Also, she uses a Bananaphone in the OP so this show is automatically the best.
