This is why I play limited. Not ever set is guaranteed to affect standard, but every set is guaranteed to bring a new limited environment.
I just wish Izzet (true izzet, with spells and such) was viable in limited. I mean, it's pretty sad when "Izzet spells" is a more viable archetype in Innistrad than in Ravnica.
How is DGM going to be drafted again? Is it one from each set? (I'm sure there's an answer somewhere on these here forums, but I'm too lazy...I mean, tired..to look it up >_>)
And is it just me, or is Melek the only guild champion that doesn't suck? The Boros and Rakdos ones OK, but I've found the rest to be very disappointing.

I think that happened in part because RtR was so much faster than Innistrad. At first I assumed that was just the result of a development oversight, but development apparently cranked up the speed of RtR and GTC because they knew DGM would be slow.
How is DGM going to be drafted again? Is it one from each set? (I'm sure there's an answer somewhere on these here forums, but I'm too lazy...I mean, tired..to look it up >_>)
Correct; the pack order will be DGM, GTC, RtR (as it is in a normal block with [Large][Small][Small] set distribution).
And is it just me, or is Melek the only guild champion that doesn't suck? The Boros and Rakdos ones OK, but I've found the rest to be very disappointing.
It depends on which format we're discussing. IMO, Azorius, Rakdos, Golgari, Gruul, and Boros all have Runners who have Constructed potential (even if only in Block), while the others are only good in Commander. (Teysa would have been a legit reanimation target in Block if not for Angel of Serenity being such a blowout.) I'm surprised we still don't know what Emmara does.
And is it just me, or is Melek the only guild champion that doesn't suck? The Boros and Rakdos ones OK, but I've found the rest to be very disappointing.
I feel like Melek is actually one of the weaker ones design wise. He's awkwardly costed and a bit clunky, I would much rather have had him use one ability or the other (either the future sight or the copy ability, having both just drives his cost way up.)
Varolz is by far the most elegantly designed of the bunch, followed by Exava and Tajic. Vorel is pretty lame since he's obviously just commander fodder (Gilder Bairn would be a cool commander right?).
Teysa bothers the hell out of me. In what world is a human advisor a 7 mana 4/4. Horrible. Lavinia is almost as bad but at least has some slight justification for being that big...

Yeah, I'm just incredibly underwhelmed with these legendaries. Don't get me wrong, I think most of them have a place in one format or another, but the first two they spoiled (Ruric and Melek) both seemed like 6-drops for the EDH crowd that WotC is so interested in these days. The ones they spoiled afterward were all over the map in terms of possible design intent (I'm pretty sure Lavinia is meant for limited...maybe worth a shot in Standard Constructed? She was probably the most disappointing of all for me anyways :'( ).
Looks like christmas came early this year. I've forever had a Wee Dragonauts/Kiln Fiend (Now more of a Guttersnipe/Kilnfiend deck), and this card is perfect. Kiln Fiend doesn't block very well, Wee dragonauts doesn't hit as hard as i'd like. This card is perfect.

Niv-Mizzet is a great get here, and I'd also be happy with Mortars or Rift. Chemister is a bomb in limited but I own about 10 of him. Nivmagus Elemental isn't a bomb in limited and I own about 6 of him, and the rest are essentially worthless in both limited and constructed (and personal value, since i just hate all of those cards). I didn't even know that was a thing. I wish I had before signing up for Izzet...twice. Well ****.
The Izzet guild-pack rares have high variance in playability, to say the least. I think it's a load of crap that we have both the worst multicolored rare (Firemind's Foresight) and the worst monocolored rare (Conjured Currency).
The guilds that guarantee a playable rare are Azorius, Gruul, Boros, and Selesnya (Wild Beastmaster and Mana Bloom may not make the cut depending on the pool).
Maybe it's not too late to switch to Boros.
I didn't even know that was a thing. I wish I had before signing up for Izzet...twice. Well ****.
It's possible it's not. They haven't confirmed that the guild packs will be the same as the ones from RTR and GTC, especially since those contained promos and DGM will not. However, it's likely the rare pools will at least be the same if not the commons and uncommons as well.
My guess is that Boros and Golgari will be top picks, since they've got the most playable and most valuable cards.
Fortunately/Unfortunately, my LGS doesn't let you pick a guild during preregistration, so I'll have to wait until the day-of to make my choice.

They probably don't want players to game the system (which is pretty much exactly what we are doing now). That said, I would be surprised if they changed the guild pack contents in any significant way. It would be fabulous if they included cards from DGM!
My guess is that Boros and Golgari will be top picks, since they've got the most playable and most valuable cards.
Eh, Jarad's Orders is clunky, Grave Betrayal is hella expensive, Abrupt Decay doesn't kill bombs, and Deathrite Shaman is tiny and unreliable. I think Golgari's rares are actually quite bad for Limited, but I agree that they have excellent secondary value. Boros just hits that sweet spot of bombiness and cash money.
I forgot to mention that I pulled Niv-Mizzet and Mizzium Mortars at RtR PRs, which explains why I never noticed how bad some of the rares were. I won the first of those events and placed reasonably well (T8 I believe) in the second.
My first GTC PR involved me losing a lot despite having a good pool. I misplayed a few times and was unable to draw relevant removal a few others (Smite and Executioner's Swing are pretty bad when your opponent's plan is to stall the board out and kill you with Act of Treason on Guardian of the Gateless, Falter, and 30 damage in attackers).
For my second GTC PR, I tried to keep my options open and ended up getting forced into Dimir. I pulled Boros Reckoner, scrubbed out of the event, and completely forgot about the card (and its subsequent spike in value) until last week.
It would be fabulous if they included cards from DGM!
We know for sure that they wont, which is why I believe they're just going to be the same as they were for the original prerelease. Or at very least the izzet rare pool isn't going to get any better...
Yeah, golgari isn't the best in limited, but Abrupt Decay and Deathrite Shaman are still some of the most expensive rares of any guild.
I also have a feeling boros will fall off in power level since DGM is supposed to be a slower format and attacking all-in might not be viable anymore. However, that doesn't really make their rares any less good.

Now that we've got the full spoiler up, let's take a look at all the izzet cards! (All 10 :P)
Weapon Surge: I dislike how this card is so close to Dynacharge, but appreciate the boost in power.
Blast of Genius: A fine card, decent removal with a draw attached. Should be decent in limited but not much else.
Catch and Release: This card seems like kind of a miss for me. I like the catch half, but the release half seems a bit strange for those colors, and combining the two just seems incredibly inefficient since you never get to utilize what you steal.
Dragonshift: I like this card from a design standpoint, but I wish it was more useful.
Fluxcharger: A fun card, but it's got the same problem most P/T switch cards do (if you switch it'll die, and if you don't it won't kill the blocker.) Still, a neat design.
Goblin Test Pilot: I like horrible cards as much as the next guy, but I really wish this dude had 3 toughness, just so he had an ounce of playability. With only 10 slots in the set I don't like one of ours being wasted like this.
Melek, Izzet Paragon: I've already spoken on this, but I'll sum it up: I think the design is a bit clunky and wish he wasn't so "commander" focused. (Even as a commander player)
Nivix Cyclops: written about this too, and I love it.
Turn and Burn: written about this too, and also love it.
Izzet Cluestone: As a budget EDH player, it's always nice to get decent mana rocks that are easily attainable. I dislike how this occupies the same slot as the keyrunes do on the mana curve for limited, but not much else to say.
All and all, pretty disappointing tbh. No really cool instants and sorceries to play with. Standouts for me are Nivix Cyclops and Turn and Burn

I really like this card, but the downside is that you're probably discarding a bomb to kill a bomb, and the effect isn't repeatable as in the case of Mercurial Chemister. Really spicy with Morgue Burst. (On that note, most Limited cards are best viewed through the lens of three-color decks.)
Catch and Release: This card seems like kind of a miss for me. I like the catch half, but the release half seems a bit strange for those colors, and combining the two just seems incredibly inefficient since you never get to utilize what you steal.
You don't have to sacrifice the permanent you Catch. It's just better long-term value if you do. If your goal is to neuter your opponent's board and swing FTW, you can do that, too.
Fluxcharger: A fun card, but it's got the same problem most P/T switch cards do (if you switch it'll die, and if you don't it won't kill the blocker.) Still, a neat design.
It has flying, which makes it a lot better than most cards in this vein.
I agree with your other evaluations. This looks like an extremely fun set for Limited, so I'm pumped for the PR!

True, but that seems like a very specific circumstance. If you don't kill your catch you're still only a net of one creature up on your opponent. I can see board states where that wins you the game but I dislike how few and far between they seem.
Really? If you have any sort of board presence, it will probably win the game for you.
It's probably great in limited, but I don't see it being great anywhere else. Izzet decks are not known for their great board presence.

EDIT: The thing is, I don't dislike combo decks, but for some reason I really like combo decks that can fail, like the old Ignite Memories deck. It's awesome to see someone work their combo and then cross their fingers and hope it works (Kinda like Epic Experiment). When that's the case, watching someone work the combo is pretty exciting because you don't know if they'll win, so it builds dramatic tension. With Eggs, you pretty much know they've won, but the combo still takes 15 minutes to finish. No tension at all, just tedium.

hey guys master of cruelity is comming out will he be banned in edh? i have a feeling he will be banned.
My guess is the EDH board will wait a month or two to see how he plays. He certainly has the potential to be devastating, but he's also pretty easy to stop. Plenty of ways to kill/block him. And sure, there are plenty of ways to make him unblockable/unkillable, but unlike Worldfire he doesn't instantly kill everyone.

I would normally say that Master of Cruelties would get banned because of past precedence, i.e., Worldfire, but creatures are a little easier to remove or counter (not necessarily with countermagic) than sorceries (which do need countermagic). Yes, he's a problem with Kaalia, but if anyone's silly enough to run her in out group, that person is definitely gonna get the hate.
In other news: I got funding to study abroad in Japan for a year! Leaving in September.
