Holy crap, I'm glad I decided to stick my head in here when I did, or I would have totally missed you!
I'm glad to see you around here again. I remember the days when the only thing keeping your post count in check was the 30-second flood control.
We were worried when you just vanished like that, considering the natural disaster (flooding?) that was occurring in your area. Welcome back, and stick around this time, eh?
Greetings to Sramjunky21 and any other new Izzet members! Watch out for the manacoil engines; jostling them tends to lead to...explosive...results.
It was at that moment that I realized: I'm kinda just making these things up. We can just write the rules the way we want them to work. People will have fun, and people will get it.
So, Ral Zarek is spoiled, so is our guild champion. I like both of them... a lot. Ral's ultimate is a little iffy, but it's super Izzet-y, so I can dig it. His first two abilities are great, though. I probably would use him just for those, never to ulti him even if i had the chance XP.
The guild champion is AMAZING. I will make an EDH out of him because he's awesome! I seriously doubt he'll see tournament play in any other format, which is fine for me. 6 is a lot in formats like Standard, Modern, and Legacy, but that's pretty easy for EDH. And that worries me a little. WotC really is pandering to the Commander players, which (even as an EDH player myself) I don't really like. This wave of legendary creatures seems like it's going to be nuts (but... only 2 champions have been spoiled... they're really good though :p).
I honestly don't really like him as a commander either. I'm not a huge fan of commanders that cost 6 or more and have small/medium bodies, especially in colors that can't ramp like red and blue. You don't really get to use him until you untap, meaning your opponents have ample time to remove him.

Normally I would argue that there is a ton of good artifact acceleration available, but then I realized that you don't want that and actually just want to run a bunch of broken instants and sorceries in a Melek deck. Maybe he's best in a Storm deck with Rituals and card filtering.

That's exactly my point. A Melek deck wants a high spell count and lots of card filtering so that his ability is online more often, but that means you don't have a lot of room for other things like creatures and artifact mana. You either end up with a deck that's okay but not great for Melek or a deck that's only ever good with Melek active.
Perhaps I'm being too harsh on him, I'm sure he's not as bad as I'm making him out to be, but I'm just not excited about him at all.

Noted. He works a lot like Future Sight, except in a more limited way. I don't think he'd be bad, though. Izzet is a fickle scheme; it requires a lot of artifacts in addition to the instants and sorceries it thrives on. I can definitely see running Melak (whatever his name is...) in a similar way to running Niv 1.0: artifact ramp your heart out t1-5 (hopefully depleting the non-instants/sorceries) whilst stockpiling - in hand or on the field - ways to manipulate the top cards of the deck. The main concern, for me, is win-con. How the heck is this guy supposed to win? Storm?
Personally, I love the flavor of Ral's ultimate. "Here, have a random number of extra turns!"
Well, yeah. Just, what kind of instants and sorceries? I was thinking burn spells and lots of Twincast/Reverberate because, hey bro, I hear you like copying, so I put some copy spells in your copy-creature so you can burn while you burn? That would be hilarious.

I love the solution to randomness is more randomness!
I mean seriously, adding more coin flips makes the ability a lot less random. You're almost always going to get at least 1 or 2 turns out of it, and potentially more. Only the Izzet can find consistency in randomness

On the bright side, we did get a pretty kick ass split card. I'm lovin the turn and burn.
Flores was actually right on the money (for once). Of course you're going to be disappointed if you compare it to Fire/Ice (which I'm sure was everyone's first instinct). But it's more like another take on Izzet Charm. You can cast Ovinize for 2U, Shock for 1R, or Murder/pseudo-Agony Warp for 3UR. None of these are efficient, but they're all playable.

I feel like instead of overload, they should have just made Fuse the izzet mechanic...
As awesome as that would be, this usage of Fuse feels much more appropriate (given the placement of split cards in the original block). Also, there is some cool inter-guild synergy and/or flavor with this execution that is really fantastic. I particularly enjoy the visual look of Fuse cards.

I defintiely agree that they shouldn't have done that, but I still wish they had
Seriously, this mechanic fits izzet perfectly. Mechanically, it offers a ton of utility out of your instants and sorceries, and captures the "creativity" that was so elusive to izzet design (fuse cards have such a vast array of different uses, or at least cards like Turn and Burn do, that the izzet can concoct all sorts of plays.) Flavor wise, the idea of fusing two spells together also fits izzet really well.

i hope they make 3 color legendary creatures in dragon Maze.
I don't think there will be room for any considering that it's a small set that has to cater to all ten guilds.
Today's spoilers were pretty disappointing. I'm still excited for the Prerelease, but my friends aren't holding their breath for Constructed-relevant cards.

This is why I play limited. Not ever set is guaranteed to affect standard, but every set is guaranteed to bring a new limited environment.
I just wish Izzet (true izzet, with spells and such) was viable in limited. I mean, it's pretty sad when "Izzet spells" is a more viable archetype in Innistrad than in Ravnica.

I really like Ral Zarek, but I'm not too Keen on Melek. Perhaps I'm underestimating him, but 6 mana seems like an awful lot to pay.

I have more or less lost interest in all Clan Contests other than CCC and Mafia. Sorry.
Melek was clearly intended for Commander. Ral is the perfect Izzet PW. Puzzling, yet explosive.
