MTGS Clans Games Workshop The 2015 Clan of the Year Race Starts Here
Introducing the new and improved Clan Contests
The Clan's Mods have been discussing what would be best for the future of Clan Contests. The past method of running contests has a few problems, as we see it. First of all, the requirement to work through your clan representative when you have an idea can be potentially stifling to creativity. Next, the limited amount of contests that can run, and the poor organization by the majority of people required to "OK" the contest (including yours-truly and the other Moderators), de-incentivize clan members and other users from even considering running a game. These in problems, in turn, have lowered participation in contests, which further discourages users from working on new contests.
Thus the new system:
Anyone can run a game, whenever they want. The only requirement is that you get clan members from at least 3-4 clans to sign up.
Scoring has been simplified and final scores for the contest will be reported by a contest's organizer when the game is finished as a post in the year's Clan of the Year Race Reporting Thread for easy compiling of scores.
Clans get a set amount of additional points if a member of their clan ran a contest during the year.
At the end of the year, clan's vote on the best Clan Contest Host & Participant for additional points.
Proposing a Game
Anyone can propose a game at any time. Simply post the desired rules and be prepared to field questions. Once your game has been refined and agreed upon by potential players from multiple clans, you can begin your contest whenever you choose.
As a general rule, each game suggestion must initially contain the following:
At least two people willing to run the contest. Typically, this means yourself and a backup.
Everything that is required for the game to be ran.
A detailed outline of the rules.
How you will determine the winner of the contest.
Running a Game
When your contest has everything required under Proposing a Game, you may run the contest if you have members from at least 3 different clans signed up to participate.
This Thread is only for the purpose of proposing games and communicating about proposed games.
Any organization that needs to go on once the contest has started should not take place in this thread. The recommended method of organizing an active contest is to start a PM thread and invite all participants into the conversation.
The Clans Moderators should be kept up to date on active contests. The preferred method for doing this is to include the Moderators in whatever communications occur between all the players during the contest.
Scoring
Clan Contests
The winner of the contest gets the maximum 3 points for their Clan.
Every Clan that has a member who participated in the entirety of the contest earns 2 points.
Each Clan that participated, but did not have a member who qualified for the 2 point award earns only 1 point.
Example reasons for participants to fall short of earning 2 points:
The participant failed to complete a required phase of the contest, such as judging other groups' entries at the end of the contest.
The participant failed to complete a required phase of the contest in a timely manner. Be lenient, but if the tardiness is causing the contest's timeline to move back by 24 hours or more, this deduction is probably in order.
This is up to the contest's organizer, but Moderators and un-involved Clan Representatives have the final say on disputes in this area.
This system allows for games that do not require the Clan to compete as a team, so you can have multiple individuals compete from within the same clan without multiplying the scores. The only benefit to bringing lots of Clan-mates to a contest like this is the increased odds of one of you taking first place.
Clan Mafia
We will continue to run one clan mafia each year. If there is demand, we could run more than one.
At the end of the game, the players will vote on the winning and losing team MVPs.
Scores are awarded in the following manner:
Losing team: 2 points
Winning team: 3 points
MVP: +1 point
Any Clan that gets modkilled, replaces their Clan out entirely, or has poor enough participation to be considered getting modkilled (Prodded too many times; Replacing out w/out a Clan replacement for multiple days; etc.) receives only 1 point, regardless of their team's win or loss.
Any Clan that does any of the previous things on Day 1 of the game receives 0 points.
Contest Organization Reward
Every Clan gets 3 points as long as one of their members has run at least one complete and successful contest during the year.
Best Contest Clan
Next January, each Clan will vote for the best Clans based on contest hosting and contest participation.
The Clan that wins the vote gets 5 points, the runner-up gets 4 points, and 3 points for third.
Once the poll is complete, all of the scores for the year will be totaled up and the Clan of the Year will be declared.
