I would always smirk at the players that were paranoid at the idea of playing their worthless commons without sleeves because when I first played, it was extremely rare to see anyone use sleeves. I couldn't even guess how many times I played with moxes, Time Walks, Timetwisters, etc, on dirty tables without ever using sleeves. Oh, I use sleeves now if the deck has anything other than commons in it. That's actually how I would still play without having an opponent. When I would get a new set for sale, usually around a case worth, I would sell all of the rares and uncommons and then make decks out of the ubiquitous commons. I would often make 8 different decks and then hold my own elimination solitaire tournaments.
Our playgroup pretty much sleeves almost everything.
(Still, it seems I'm that much more interested in creating custom material rather than playing.)
Anyways, some people have always said the 'lava' tasks I created on the sidewalk were too difficult. But on the (supposedly) other end of the scale... I created this "maze" a while back. A lot of people have actually failed this thing.
A friend introduced me to Magic back in '97, but I didn't start playing until Exodus came out. I currently live in the country and there isn't another player, much less a store for miles. I only go to the prereleases, and I haven't missed one in 9 years.
I'm not a good player, but I am impressed with what Wizards come up with. That's why I make cards in CCC.
I think I enjoy CCC more than I ever enjoyed playing.
I have tried to run away from Magic once (too much toll on the money), but I had too many CCC ideas still floating around... that's what kept me here. Plus I need help on critique on my cards every so often before I finish assembling any set I'm making.
(Still got to work on Destabilization, the second set in the Wave of Mutation block.)
@Kank: Yep! And really, wasn't that a happier time? I think I'd like to go to a Vintage tournament and play with old, high-valued cards without sleeves just once, to relive the old days. Maybe Donate some Soldier of Fortunes just to complete the image.
I keep my favourite decks sleeved, but otherwise I don't really care. I also just leave them in the same sleeves until they fall apart. And from time to time I'll look at a deck and realise it has a supposed value over $100 and decide that maybe it's time to sleeve... and then I'll get around to it in a month or two. On the other hand, I still haven't bothered to order sleeves for Dominion, or any of my other card-based games, and probably never will, so... meh.
Just saw that Red Letter Media put out its Episode 3 review. Anyone else been watching these?

My anecdotal evidence disagrees with yours! EXPLAIN THAT!
Just saw that Red Letter Media put out its Episode 3 review. Anyone else been watching these?
The only media I've been catching lately is the unrest in Egypt and the massive weather system that is shutting down virtually half of the US. (Clear skies here though!)
Prison fans? Are there that many of those? There are quite a few people who just don't read anything carefully...
(I showed it to an English teacher once, who said it's a very creative idea for a puzzle.)
My seventh crossword will take a while... making cryptic clues for long entries is difficult.
GAOL is the old English spelling of JAIL.
Unlike ZEN, it's actually valid in Scrabble!
You've inspired me to come up with some cryptic clues here and there to things, and I've written down a few of them. If I get enough, I'll try to put them into a crossword too, like...
Yes, I knew of that. I often respond to the test-takers, "That's not a goal. That's an old English word for prison."
I haven't figured out the clue yet...
(I usually rely on checked letters for most words... the ones I usually find first when solving one are the anagram clues.)
Phew: I'm back in the online world. We still need spice rack photos? I took a couple of one of his racks. The other is really tall and thin, so not quite banner material there. I can stick the photos up here sometime soon.
I'm guessing monkey, though I don't think that's how a clue works.
Hm. I do see "monk" and "key" in there, but the clue parts seem to be in a weird order if that was the answer, not to mention the overlapping K from the two parts.
I guess a clue for "monkey" would be like this:
My French important ape (6)
Just for the record, I've never understood the clues in a cryptic crossword. Then Aurora comes along and, somehow I seem to be able to solve some of them. I don't know why.
That said, I came up with my own cryptic clue
Carbon plus Yttrium sweets (5)

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
Writing clues takes me a while... until I kinda just decide to stare at my paper for a bit and then start thinking of clues for every entry one by one.
I was thinking. Aurora (or Moss), you should open up a Forum Game with exactly that basis of passing cryptic crosswords back and forth between players. This would not have to conflict with Aurora's regular Crossword puzzle either and then others that have a good puzzle could share them. I'm sure I could come up with more than a few good ones.
What do you think?
I think that would be cool. I guess I've never been too good with crosswords, so I've kinda ignored the last few pages. ^^; they seem very interesting, though. Maybe I'll head over and see what I can puzzle out a little later.
Also, my latest piece from my Metalworking class. I call it "Nouveau Van Gogh."

Creativity is where it's at, yo!
So, is that Van Gogh's severed ear complete with earring done in copper/bronze?
I was in a metalworking class some years ago and the only thing I think that's still around anywhere is a werewolf silhouette that I cut out of sheet metal. I think my mom still has it on her front porch. (It's not big, maybe a foot tall or so).
@Kank: Passing crosswords back and forth? What do you mean by that? Any crossword at full size (15x15 for regular crosswords) takes a while to set clues for...
You're right on the money, Kank! I'm glad it's recognizable. It's supposed to be a little abstract, with a more modern, punkish update. I like to think that I did well enough while still being slightly non-representational.
I'm looking forward to working my brooch and ring later in the semester. The final piece is a choice of my own, and I've got some ideas of what to do with it. I may ask to learn how to do some casting, which isn't taught until next semester.
In continuing to work on the pieces, I've found that I _really_ quite love metalworking. It's some tactile and enjoyable. I always hated the feeling of clay and woodwork, it dried my hands out and made me feel kinda awful. But, the metalworking...there's the heat, the color, the use of line and form to create something...the sensation of the file on the metal. It's like hardcore art. It's completely different from anything I've done, but yet I'm using years of experience in working with tools and other artistic pursuits to create things. It's crazy cool....

I'm sure your "GAOL" has caught one too many prison fans and/or dyslexics.

MONKEY is is!
See, despite it being in an unfamiliar order, it was still easily solved (box outside the I think often).
How about this one then:
