@Stardust: Yeah, I didn't know if having an "almost-truth" would make it too hard or not... If I had put the statement about doing 100 star jumps within 2:30 there, would you have considered picking that one?
Only Aurora could do that many, and you are not Aurora.
I finished the first draft of my sell sheet for Merchant's Dilemma tonight. Looks pretty good! The idea with this is I send it to publishers (or hand it over in person), they read it, then decide if they want to ask for a copy of the game for playtesting. So what do you think? If you were a publisher, would you want to playtest Merchant's Dilemma based on this one page alone?
I like to think the merchants are selling pizza because the "compete" icons look like little pepperonis!
Game strategy: Tell the other players that you will play cooperate every time until they play a compete against you and then only play compete with that player for the rest of the game. I will cooperate until you screw me over once then never again. Choose wisely.
That is a strategy, but it doesn't always work out. If each other player competes against you once, then continues to compete against you (as you compete against them), they get the same amount of gold as you every time - except that one time they got 3 and you got 0. At the end of the day, there is no perfect strategy. It seems the most successful players are usually shifting alliances several times throughout the game. It's really way more fun than I ever thought possible.
It's similar to the Prisoner's Dilemma as you stated - you need to convince people to trust you, but how?
In terms of crafty stuff, I'm practicing Sleigh Ride (not my arrangement, one I got online), in addition to re-practicing my other Christmas stuff (Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and also my version of We Wish You a Merry Christmas).
(And as for the number games, 76-100 will probably be the last one in the series as I'd need to use even bigger numbers in the next iteration. I had to use 7 a few times in the 51-75 game, so I don't want to get too out of hand here.)
[The Crafters] Will Be Playing Christmas Music 24/7!
Wait, no, that's a bad idea... put that at the bottom of the list and don't pick it unless no one else submits anything. Maybe something about the fact that we have two people who were away for a few years just coming back, but not sure what...
Also, it seems like I'm throwing quizzes around here left and right (and this is also yet another math quiz), but my Turf Wars quiz got published to the Sporcle front page!
I hate that damn hippopotamus song so much. Plays every year as a part of our 10 song christmas music loop.
I think if I had a time machine, I think the only thing I would do with it is go back in time and prevent that song from being written.
That being said, I like the option as title, but expect me to ignore the thread for a month otherwise I might become compelled to jump from a bridge.
Then again, with all the personal ***** that seems to be boiling up to this point (sister & mom fights, friends & my roommates fights, and many more!), I expect I'll be absent anyhow.
@Stardust: Alright, I guess. Not much has changed, working the same retail job I've had for practically my entire adult life. Fourth quarter is always interesting/ stressful, especially in the electronics department. The NES Classic is #1 with a bullet this holiday season, mainly due to modern society's insatiable hunger for member berries and Nintendo's grand idea of selling scarcity. Those stupid Hatchimal things would be a close 2nd.
In my spare time I've been enjoying my LGS's recent offering of Tuesday Night Modern. Mainly playing Abzan, but tried out Mono Black Devotion tonight. I admittedly slapped it together so it wasn't as polished as it could have been. Handily beat Skred Red, lost horribly to Infect TWICE (guy in my second Infect match up had two Spell Pierces for both of my Geth's Verdicts! ), and got a bye in the last round. Sorting out some of the commons boxes helped quell the unholy rage instilled by aforementioned matchups.
Aside from that, I had a great time ! So how are things for you?
@Snake:Which song - the Mariah Carey or the Hippopotamus?

Good! Had a rough couple of years there without you guys, but things are going well now. I'm happy. Seeing the interior of my house for the first time today at 3:00 too! Hopefully I don't hate it.

I'm sorry to hear things are going so poorly for you. I hope you have better days ahead.

Do you know if Nintendo is going to release more of their Classic? I really wanted one so I could introduce my nephews to all the awesome games of my childhood. (Specifically Zelda, and really because my youngest nephew is a blonde and would make the CUTEST. LINK. EVER. but he'll never go for it if he doesn't know who Link is!!)
Ah, right, that song. I've heard it a few times. I would approve of a Phelddagrif though.
You probably already know that my favorite Christmas music mostly comes from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. And also this one.
(Also, Let It Go (from Frozen) is not technically a Christmas song, but I tend to associate it with the season as well. I suppose the same can be said for several other songs from Frozen as well.)
@Manders: The NES Classics have been trickling in very slowly: only got 7 in our initial shipment and had two other days where we only received 2. If you really want to snag one the best bet is to pick your favorite store, learn their truck schedule, and make sure you're first in line when they open for business. Lines can form for these things hours before the doors open meaning if any arrive they'll pretty much sell out immediately.
...Or you can skip the lines and pay some toy scalper $200+ online. Either way, best of luck in your NES endeavors.
I used to have a NES with almost all of the games that the new mini system comes with and more, but they were all stolen from a house in Truckee about 20 years ago.

Oh good grief. Now that song is in my head again.

Speaking of Christmas songs getting stuck in heads:
[The Crafters] want a Phelddagrif for Christmas. Only a Phelddagrif will do.
And speaking of wish lists, are we still on for the Secret Santa exchange? I haven't heard any updates.
Hi Grey! How's it going for you these days? Been quite a few years now.

+1 for Lord Grey's submission. (If my vote matters. I understand if it doesn't.)

Hippos are among the deadliest animals on the planet. It would be safer to have a pet lion or tiger.
I had actually NEVER heard that song before a couple of years ago, but apparently it's HUGE in r_0's household growing up.
I find the woman singing its' voice appalling, so I can't stand it for too long.
