I've been on a pretty long break too, but the looks of BFZ were too much to keep me away. It certainly is a pretty awesome format. I've only gotten one draft in, as I'm also financially limited right now, but it's definitely something I plan on doing more of.
I hope to someday manage the 5CC Sene special in a draft, but I think the locals will stop me of that. I ended up going 2-1 with RG Landfall this week at FNM, losing a close one to a guy in WG allies and blowing out a UG Ramp and UB control(ish) deck. It was a fun draft, and very rewarding when picking up signals. I almost got trapped because the guy next to me was the UG Ramp guy and he was passing a ton of the red eldrazi stuff to enable something with a ton of Nettle Drones, Aggregates, and the like, but was taking all the Eldrazi spawners so I wouldn't really have been able to get that off the ground.
Speaking of doing something right, what's up with Tahn's recent resurgence? This weekend he almost took down GP Prague, and he's already crushed some tournaments earlier this year. It's pretty sweet to see.
And now he's 10-3 at the Pro Tour, one game up in a feature match. Only a couple of wins away from a PT top 8, which would've been pretty insane!
Sheesh, seems like this place died. Well, if anyone still checks in here, I hope everyone is well!
I stopped by to see if anyone else was planning on attending GP DC in a few weeks. A couple friends and I decided to go, as team sealed is basically the most fun format ever, and I didn't know if anyone would be there and wanted to meet up and say hello.
Take care everyone!

Signalling is like farting: it's a natural thing that helps people avoid being where you are, and if you try to do it deliberately, things turn to crap fast.

Sad, but at least we had some good community moments and runs here. I'm shocked you aren't making a thousand-plus mile trip just to play some Magic!
In any case, I don't have very high hopes for the GP, so winning it probably isn't in the cards. We could get some great pools and run well, but even if we somehow crack the top 4, I haven't team drafted in probably 2+ years, and my teammates, while fine players in their own rights, are banking on me to captain things a bit. It'll be fun regardless!

Well, it has been awhile. Apparently for everyone. I've been checking the site this week because a) it's spoiler season, and b) I was checking the Modern Bant Spirits thread for some input. I played that deck at an rptq last weekend. Started bad: 0-2, but then I kept at it (since my friends were still in), won the next 5 rounds, and finished top 16. Even though none of my friends qualified, we still had a fun road trip to Nashville and played some good Magic.
I'm heading to Milwaukee this weekend for the GP. A good weekend there, and I'll have earned one bye again. Woot!
It's been fun to see a few names pop up in events and in the community from time to time. @Tahn has been kicking butt recently. @Sene's spreadsheet work finally got Wizards to actually do its job and keep a player of the year leaderboard available for the community. He even got a Hall of Fame vote too! Well done both of you.
With the news of MTGS dying, thought I would make one last comment here saying goodbye. Obviously this place has been dead for years, but I still remember it fondly. I hope you're all doing well. Other online communities I've been part of since, such as reddit, facebook, and twitter, have felt somewhat empty by comparison, with little to no opportunity for long form discussion or relationship building. Also, I have all but quit Magic and mostly play Hearthstone now, which I love from a game design POV, but it lacks the depth of community that Magic has. I will miss this place.
Wishing all of you the best, and here's to my past life as forum-obsessed teenager.
Well, I guess one last gasp of interaction is worth another. The relative death of this community was always sad to me; I was pretty committed to it for a long time. This site remains my preferred place to check for spoilers, so seeing that go is also unfortunate, but the thing I miss most of all is bateleur schooling me on basic (and not-so-basic) logic throughout my college career.
Goodbye, Flying Spaghetti Monster. Have a great life.
Good of you to bump this, FSM! My first post here in 3 years. Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you guys, I suppose, but I notice it's not just MTGS and forums that have become outdated, but I've also mostly kind of grown away from arguing with random people on the internet... I get some relapses now and then on Reddit, I suppose, but all-in-all I don't have the same need to discuss MTG (or other related things) as I did when I was a teen or in my early 20s. But I'll miss this site - I've been a member here for almost half my life! I joined when I was 15; now I'm 30.
Take care, y'all

GP DC would be fun, but it's not realistic to attend North American GPs right now, sadly. But yes, team events are great. Win the whole thing!
