I've been googling and haven't found anything talking about "Mexican Lion/Mountian Lion" hybrids. Also, his claim that Park & Wildlife "doesn't talk about them and denys they exist cause they are to smart" and the fact his primary source was a cattle ranch hand leads me to call BS. I'm not doubting he saw a big scary animal, but I don't believe it was an undocumented super lion hybrid.
So yeah, I'll put the mythical Mexican Super Lion/Cougar hybrid right up there with Chupacabra's.
Have you been to south Texas? No one studies these animals cause there is no money there worth spending on for animal research. I could not find anything on Mexican lions either, but jaguars and panthers could what the ranch hands called Mexican lions.
Note your comments from allexperts said if mated, not that they actually saw the cub. On a side note, their have been other species crosses such as the grizzly and polar bear that wear "mule" and epically large and aggressive. These specimens were studied and on display on discovery channel and in museums. I don't give **** if you don't find the evidence enough for you Internet powered research ability. My point is just to watch out when in south Texas at night in the scrub. There are a lot of animals we know little about or do not study cause they are of no interest or extremely hard to track.
last night i woke up... as i open the fridge...my ICECREAM... GONE!

Right, but I think what he's saying is that polar bears and grizzly bears are of the same genus (Ursus) and are therefore able to at least produce offspring. On the other hand mountain lions are genus Puma whereas jaguars and panthers are Panthera (although the word "panther" can also be used for mountain lions sometimes), which makes it much less likely they'd be able to produce anything.
One reasonable contender I found was the Costa Rican cougar:
That's just a different subspecies than the North American cougar, so it should have no problems interbreeding (although it'd make producing infertile cubs a little less likely).
Yep. The fact it's 213 A.D. and so many people still believe Ptolemy's vision of the Earth centered universe and all the other nonsense people swear "happened to them". Downright frightening.
"Today's magic and miracles are tomorrow's science"
Science and understanding exists on a continuum and we are constantly learning new things about the universe in which we reside. Are these people having experiences? Yes, not all of course. But the ones whoa re having real experiences are desperate to apply some label to them. I constantly wonder why science shuns the "unexplained" when that should really be the core of Scientific study to explain the unexplained.
Even if ghost sightings are (a) manifestation of mental illness, (b) part of a chemical imbalance in the brain, (c) or the process of natural "recording" and playback of stored energy, (d)or actual spirits. Science has not proven, nor attempted to why those things happen, and they do happen.

Exactly, the trilobite was said to be extinct and then some fisherman pulled one out of the ocean. It's ok to in my mind to keep searching or be weary of such unknown animals, but just claiming it the story and teller a liar does not move science forward. The Internet is not really that helpful in looking for unknown animals. Watch river monsters with Jeremy wade and see how he has to follow local fisherman stories to find his target.
My scary story is similar to OP in that involves camping and a creepy dude. So last year I was with my best friend on our annual camping trip. This particular year no one else could make it and it was just us two. The spot we always get is far away from anything really and shooting guns for target practice/fun is allowed. So we were firing off a couple rounds when all of a sudden a guy comes creeping out of the woods holding a gun. He asked us if this was the shooting range, we explained that no, it's a campsite that WE have. He asked if he could fire off a couple rounds and we reluctantly agreed. This guy was super shifty and creep and we didn't want do anything to provoke him. I He fired off a few rounds then turned to us with a crazy look in his eyes asking about our guns. My friend managed to keep him talking and get him to go away. Both of us were shaking pretty bad after because of the severe adrenaline dump.
When we discussed it later we agreed that we have never been in fear of losing our lives more than that moment. It was only a couple minutes but it felt like an eternity. It wouldn't have been so bad if he didn't look so crazy and creepy and hadn’t come into our camp out of the woods like that (there was a big road a driveway about 100 yards away that he could have used).
So that's mine. That's probably the most scared I've ever been in my life.
I think he means the coelacanth. 'Living fossil' thought to be long extinct when a fisherman pulled one out of the ocean in 1938. Check it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coelacanth

There's no such thing as ghosts. They violate so many laws of physics it's beyond belief. Demons, devils, gods, all just made up religious babble. Same thing with cryptozoology. Some guy on MTGS happens to run into a completely undocumented hybrid animal, that "everyone in South Texas knows about but scientists don't"? Give me a break. Sorry, but I believe actual zoologists, who study animals for a living, and have an entire area of scientific study to educate themselves with, over "some cattle ranchers in South Texas"
Really, all these stories are just examples of exceptionalism: People want to feel special, or unique, so they are inclined to believe that special and unique things happen to them. It's a well known area of anthropology and sociology. It's why people gamble and play lotteries and partake in dangerous behavior and the like: People like to believe they are special and the likely outcomes won't apply to them.
People think you can magically summon a demon by saying "Bloody Mary" in a mirror three times? In 2013? Really?
There are plenty of REAL scary stories out there. Sectarian violence in Dafur, civil war atrocities in Syria, Egypt, a nuclear weapon armed country, spiraling into political chaos. Mounting debt levels and an aging population due to put a massive burden on an already strained health car system. The fact any insane person can waltz into a Dick Sporting Goods and buy a rifle and murder anyone he wants, and there are people who will defend his right to do it. There's plenty to be scared of out there, completely bereft of ghouls or goblins.
Let's be clear here though: The possibility of unobserved or unnoticed species is high, but it's mainly in the insect realm and in the ocean.
The chances of an undiscovered hominid species wandering the forests of North American without any real proof, incredibly low.
I absolutely believe there are huge numbers of undiscovered species in vast, remote/hard to get to location. I'm sure the Amazon basic has legions of yet undiscovered flora/fauna.
A super lion/puma hybrid roaming the wilds of South Texas, commonly known of by local cattle ranchers and a guy on a Magic the Gathering internet forum, but ignored by zoologists because "it's to smart/there's no money in them"? Yeah, not so much
A new fern/moss/insect discovered somewhere previously unexplored by a team of scientists, photographed, samples, and well documented, I certainly believe that. Jackalopes, Chupacabas, Bigfoot, and super mutant hybrid lion/pumas? Sorry, I'm not buying it.

I'm sure you know a hybrid animal is totally possible, though. We have Lygers in captivity that prove just this. I've never heard of this mexican mountain tiger or whatever it's called until this thread and I've seen documentaries and read articles on all sorts of "possibly" existing species of animals. Chupacabra's don't even seem possible and there's blurry video proof of their existence.

If you ever leave your computor; tracking big cats in south texas with dogs can be useless cause the feral pigs are everywhere. The dogs get confused or new chase with pigs. There are no real trees to corner them as well. On foot, it tries your nerves cause there are trails from wildlife everywhere. It is even a serious pain to fly over the area to spot wildlife cause the brush is very thick. On horseback, you waste is at top level of the brush. Just to give you some perspective of South Texas monte.
@spg, thanks on the coelacanth point. Although I do recall the Trillabite being a claimed exstict creature until someone found one in deep enough water. I guess you could say that many marine life through the years.
Here are some pictures from a rancher/farmer I know that hung a camera on a tree to see what investigated a calf that was killed by a big cat. The pictures are on the attatchments. I have never seen Mountain lions together like this, ever. They are extremely territorial and hate each other. If mountain lions began hunting as a pride instead of single attacks; things might get interesting.
@OP- give bigfoot a break, he does not have pay per view.
Any of you live near the Texas/Mexico border (Zapata county and surrounding)? Ever hear of a Mexican Lion? Did you know that when you cross a Mexican lion with an American Mountain lion or cougar the result is a mule of sorts. The locals/illegal immigrants called them "Once Real" (read it as if in Spanish).
I'm sorry, but this makes no sense at all, how can you cross 2 related animals and get something completely unrelated? You can't breed 2 dogs and get a "horse" of sorts, or cross-breed 2 monkeys and get a "pig" of sorts.

How can u cross 2 lions and get a mule?
Do you know what a mule is cause it is an animal name and creature status term? It's a result of a horse and a donkey mating. You don't get an offspring unrealted as you state, but instead an animal unable to bread and generally extremely smart. These animals have interest in mating thus all their energy is focused in thriving for themselves. It is very different in mindset from a male animal that has been neutered as cattle are for weight gain and reducing testosterone. The mule of the lions is a genetic freak that cannot bread as claimed. This lion should be kicking out the the other lion species, but fail cause they cannot breed. I don't know why there is a genetic "mule" of sorts, but am happy the "mule" status is created. Genetic incompatability, thus creating mules?

These are pictures from Washington state. It's two mothers with three cubs each. It's not a hunting pack.

Oh, okay...I was thinking it was an actual Mule, like animal you get from a Donkey and Horse. I was trying fathom 2 lions breeding, and having a Lion, with Mules ears and a head that looked like a pit viper--and that just really threw me off. Your story still does seem a bit unusual, but definitely more plausible then what I had initially imagined. Also, more plausible then jackalopes or chupacabras.
Wraith, those just look like mountain lions to me, dude. What am I looking for that makes them different? While it is extremely unusual for them to be together hunting in a pride like this it's not exactly impossible. I've cross checked these images with google images of mountain lions and I'm not seeing any actual differences in appearance. Maybe you can enlighten me in case I'm overlooking it?

Damn it! I hate it when it happens that someone sends you an email that is false or has been resent to many times for a slightly different story. Although, the puma's in the shot are not little ones. Also, they will eat off a kill for a very long time as long as they feel it is safe from other preditors. As for the claim of kittens, where are their spots? They don't hang around the mother very long when the spots dissapear. Whoever wrote the article knows very little about big cats, and I have not surffed the net enough. Oh well, At least it's some cool pictures.
Again, thanks for catching this as I will be emailing Gavin and letting him know how stupid I felt.
@infallibe, I just posted some cool pictures I had to give the thread something cool to see. They appear to all be adult Pumas at a kill. The black long thing near the ground appears to be a bovine's rear hock (bottom leg). That would be the right position big cats like to feed from with cattle I have personaly seen. Horses as well.
I think what Wraith is trying to say is that the animals are 'Lougars' if you will.
I'm not sure I see it, though.
I think the "Mexican Lion" is supposed to be a different subspecies of mountain lion.
It certainly seems plausible that there is interbreeding between the central american mountain lions and the north american ones, especially around Texas. It also seems plausible that the hybrids may tend to enjoy some amount of hybrid vigor. On the other hand, I don't think it's terribly likely that cross-subspecies would create a mule. Generally you only get infertile hybrids when you're breeding across species with different numbers of chromosomes (horses have 64 while donkeys have 62, for example) because the mismatch causes problems in the potential offspring. I suspect the infertility part might just be a bit of folk lore, especially since it's not even clear how you would go about determining it.
The core of the story seems pretty reasonable - that there is a hybrid mountain lion which displays increased aggression and power. Some of the details strike me as possible embellishments though.

Edit: Whoops, didn't see Wraith's latest post. Interesting.
I love stories about big cats regardless though. Great pictures.

Just so wrong.
