That's probably because the only stuff that makes it overseas is crap like Bud Light. Does Sam Adams distribute over there? It's probably the best American beer that's somewhat ubiquitous.
Oddly enough, every time I was in a European bar, it seemed as though there was some kind of prestige to drinking American beer. This was especially the case in China, Budweiser was revered there. It was really weird.
Over the weekend I tried Judgment Day Ale brewed by the Lost Abbey. I was very pleased with it and plan on trying some more of the Abbey's brews. Does anyone familiar with them have recommendations on my next bottle? I don't enjoy IPAs, but everything else is good for me.

Unfortunately none of their stuff makes its way to Kansas. I've heard great things about them and they have a TON of highly-respected beers. The highest-rated of theirs that I've seen is a barley wine called The Angel's Share. Sounds really, really nice.

"...because without beer, things do not seem to go as well."
Having just turned 21 only two months ago, I haven't had much of a chance to try anything and everything there is... But I do have a few that I like the best.
1. Beck's (Dark/Reg)
~ I never really liked the taste of Heineken that much, but I wanted to try another german brew, and since Zakk Wylde is a pretty huge fan of Beck's, I figured "Oh why the hell not." I don't know if it's because I'm enough of a Black Label Society fan to just love anything and everything that Zakk does, but damn I love this beer.
2. Three Philosophers (http://www.ommegang.com/index.php?mcat=1&scat=4)
~ I was told by a friend to try this; saying that it was the best one he had ever had. Well, he wasn't lying. This Quadrupel infused with Cherry Lambic is pretty damn amazing. Only part of it I don't like is the price tag ($13 for a 4 pack? Sheesh, talk about Baneslayer breaking your wallet.....)
3. Entire Butt Old English Porter
~ Okay, I bought this for the name, not gonna lie. But after chilling it down from being on the shelf at Total Wine and drinking it, I was grinning from ear to ear. I just wish there was a Total Wine in Boone, NC so that I wouldn't have to drive all the way home to Raleigh to get some more. (Heck, our specialty beer and wine store doesn't even have it)
Other Honorable Mentions: Dragons Milk: About as sweet as anybody would want a beer. It took me 2 days to finish one bottle. If you like drinking syrup, try this. Mississippi Mud: I think this Black & Tan is an underrated beer. For $2.70 at my next door gas station? Hell yes I'll take 8. Leinenkugel's Berry Weiss: You're drinking Kool-Aid. That's it. It's Kool-Aid.

No, we don't get Sam Adams in Canada, and thank goodness since the stuff is absolutely terrible.
American recipe for beer (especially Sam Adams and clones):
- Take a lager, remove 2 % alcohol due to stupid American laws, add 75% more hops than necessary, voila!
I love the fall and winter special brews that come out. I bought a few bottles of Bah-Humbug, it had awesome cinnamon flavours. I would recommend anyone to try it who likes dark beer and cinnamon.
I have limited experience beyond Australian beers. My top 3 would be:
1. Matilda Bay Bohemian Pilsner
2. James Squires Pilsner
3. Coopers Sparkling Ale
Lol at previous mentions of Crown Lager and Fosters. All Carlton & United Brewery beers taste the same - tinny and awful with a chemical aftertaste.
I've never had the others, but Coopers is awesome. It's hard to find around here but it's great stuff to have around in quantity as it goes well with a wide variety of foods.

The ORIGINAL Budweiser started in Budweis in the late 18th century. Since Anheuser-Busch registered the name in the U.S., Budweiser Budvar is sold in the U.S. as "Czechvar."

There's no restriction on alcohol content of beers sold in the U.S. Some states only allow the import of beers up to a certain ABV, though (Alabama, I know, has one of the most restrictive regulations). Sam Adams, oddly enough, marketed a beer that was well in excess of 20% ABV.
1) Creemore urBock: Ontario's Creemore Springs micro brew makes a very small batch of this every holiday season. You can generally find it from Thanksgiving to Christmas.
2) Hoegaarden: Not many things can beat a nice Belgian wheat beer, especially on draft.
3) Blanche de Chambly: Unibroue's lovely Blonde.
Extremicon: Ever heard of KLB? They pretty much brought Raspberry Wheat to Canada.
Has anyone tried anything from New Glarus? I think it's pretty hard to get outside of Wisconsin, but they make some good beer. Spotted Cow is probably their most common one but they have some other pretty good/interesting stuff.
First, let me say to everyone who posted ANY beer made by Budweiser, Coors, Miller, or any such worldwide, large capacity brewery.. Is simply terrible. I say ditch the lists with water (I mean lager) on them.
#1: Trois Pistoles, from Unibroue
#2: Three Philosophers from Brewery Ommegang
#3: Hazelnut Stout, Rogue Brewing Company

Thanks to SB4 of High~Light Studios for the sick sig!
I am drinking a Victory Golden Monkey right now. Its a trippel with a big alcohol finish and great in winter. I also love a Murphy's/McSorley's black and tan. Finally, there is a local brewpub here in Philly called Nodding Head that sometimes has a beer called WFC ale. Its a red ale named after Chase Utley's speech at the Phillies' victory parade after winning the 2008 World Series.
Lol at previous mentions of Crown Lager and Fosters. All Carlton & United Brewery beers taste the same - tinny and awful with a chemical aftertaste.
Agreed.
Australian beer is quite horrid, also another one to never drink is VB.
God Victoria can make a bad beer, also XXXX is not very nice. I think people drink VB and XXXX because its quite cheap yet disgusting.

Ah, yes. I'm drinking a Spotted Cow right now, in fact... good stuff. Honestly, I like all kinds of beer, except dark beer. Guiness is like motor oil to me.

Love. Forgive. Trust. Be willing to be broken that you may be remade.
Fat Tire and Blue Moon are both mass produced beers, though I agree they are better than anything in the Bud Millweiser line up. My buddy says Fat Tire brews are meant to poured in a glass such that it leaves a lot of head. He claims it improves the flavor. I've never been able to tell a difference between that or sipping the bottle. Anybody know it to be true or false? (I've been known to miss some taste things. For instance I'm told Mayonnaise and Miracle Whip taste different, but I can't tell)
@extremeicon: I've tried a few more of the Lost Abbey's brews, and finally ponied up for a bottle of The Angel's Share on New Years. It was great until the last few warm drinks, which were still pretty good. I'm going to keep working through their line up, but here's how I rank what I've tried.
Angel's Share
Judgment Day Ale
Devotion Ale
Inferno Ale
