Actually, blasphemy day was made up after the outrage by a certain part of the muslim community as a response to the Swedish cartoonist and his Muhammed cartoons.
So, if you're looking at it from the perspective from which the idea was made, you'll see that we're not making fun of people, but rather protesting against those who oppose free speech.

We have laboured long to build a heaven, only to find it populated with horrors.
Actually, blasphemy day was made up after the outrage by a certain part of the muslim community as a response to the Swedish cartoonist and his Muhammed cartoons.
Oddly enough, it is Christianity that gets the shaft.
Anyone willing to make fun of Jesus Christ should also have the balls to put up the same comics about Mohammed. Maybe christians should (re)start showing the same amount of vitriol and hatred as those who were protesting the swedish comics.

You find me some cartoons denouncing Islam, and I'll be happy to put them up here. I already posted one. The problem is they are kinda hard to find... and for a reason. That's why we have this day in the first place.
Religion purports to be a system for knowing things about the world. The day is about opening that up to as much heavy criticism and skepticism as we give everything else.
Edit:
You type "religion" or "blasphemy" into an English-language search engine, and most of your results are going to deal with Christianity. That's just how it works.
Oddly enough, Christians tend to get more on our case than Muslims. If only because of proximity. Funny that.
The day was made as a reaction to the violent response to the comics, because it was a response far in your "case" to what christians are known for (today).
The reason why christianity gets made fun of the most is not because they're on your "case"
a) they are the most numerous
b) more importantly to your point, they are less likely to attempt to attempt to kill you for it
Buddisim: I can't find any good pictures (apparently no one hates Buddha).
A zen student walks up to a hot dog vendor and says, "Make me one with everything.
Jahova's witness:
Atheists:
Obligatory Christian:
Honestly I don't have access to any truly offensive material (nor do I particularly want it), but good, clean humor about all religions is necessary, no one group should be able to push people around and silence any criticism through force and threats. (sounds familiar...)
I'm avowedly atheist, but even I think the one with Hitler is a bit much for this setting.
Thinking what people have actually done in name of christianity, I'm fairly certain that Hitler's actions wouldn't seem that bad in comparision. It's just that we have much more knowledge of them, than from, say crusades, and in general the trend is to say crusaders were cool guys who liberated land and not afraid of anything.

The Sage is occupied with the unspoken
and acts without effort.
Teaching without verbosity,
producing without possessing,
creating without regard to result,
claiming nothing,
the Sage has nothing to lose.
b) more importantly to your point, they are less likely to attempt to attempt to kill you for it
Untrue. In both cases the odds are vanishingly small, but while a certain number of Muslims might have higher motivation to do so than Christians, they have so much less accessability that the odds are still greater that a Christian would kill me for blasphemy.
I take it there aren't many Mormons (Later Day Saints) or Jehovah Witnesses in Quebec?
I lump those in into the "Christian" category. There's plenty of them. It's my opinion that the less religious a society gets, the more of the really insane religions are going to be the ones left with membership. Case in point: Raelians. We got a lot of those.
The JW's used to come but I haven't seen any new ones since the last time when I told them I'd gladly invite them in to discuss their religion if they gave me their address so I could go talk to them about worshipping my Lord Satan next weekend. You know, I'm not recalcitrant to a good exchange of ideas... They didn't take me on the offer, strangely enough.
The Mormons are *all* young white male Americans from SLC. On missionary duty. Apparently we're considered to be sufficiently godless a society in Quebec that they send us missionaries. I'm pretty sure most of these young 'Elders' are happy to have been sent here instead of, say, Indonesia. Except maybe in the middle of February...
Actually Mormons and JW's aren't Christians in the strictest sense of the word.
How you wish to segregate amongst yourself is not my issue. I use a rather core definition of Christian, which is "follows the teachings of Jesus Christ", and I'm pretty sure the Mormons and JWs are Christians under that definition... I mean, even if the Mormons are sure they're following the gospel that Jesus gave to the *Native Americans* (snort) they're still more or less claiming to be following the teachings of Christ, no? And the JWs are even less of a borderline case, they use the same Bible and everything.
Compare to the Anglicans, who split off their own church just so their king could ***** around a bit. I'm not sure that counts as following the teachings of Christ, and yet we're still calling them Christians.
People make fun of others everyday. Live with it. You (perhaps) see your religion as something holy and not to be made fun of. Some think different about that. If as a believer you hate the fact that your religion is being made fun of, then ignore it. Something with freedom of speach.
Again, I'm all for allowing everyone to express their beliefs, I just think that if one so zealously wants to do so, making a specific place (a freeforums.org or something where people join by invitation) for it is the ideal thing to do. A "general" place where people of all walks of life go and children can visit, should only contain things "for all public". For the same reason we can't use words like "****", "****", and "****" without having asterisks in place of the words we (I) so much like to express, is the same reason why I think that Blasphemy Day or any mockery of any lifestyle is admissible, just in the right place, not where easily impressed young minds could have their views on the world modified (well, that's like the most extreme worst case scenario, but you know what I mean:D). Things like these belong in places for private eyes, not places for the general public (yes, the thread is provocative. It's BOUND to make people click on it and complain. Still, your point is gotten across. I don't mind people having fun at my expense, as long as they don't do it in front of me). But yes, I see mockery of my beliefs every day, and I do ignore it, just not when it's somewhere I go by choice to begin with.
So you would rather have your religion affect their minds?
There has been much worse posted here that remained, so this thread has a place here
Again, (thanks for reminding I didn't say this) anything that's NOT fitting to all public (yes, even if I believe in Jesus, I don't like testaments of faith like "Praise Jesus" in public. Makes me embarrassed of my own faith) shouldn't be allowed in places where all sorts of people go. My point is that whatever's exclusive to a certain belief system that could modify someone's mind in any way (not positive by default) should have its own place.
Hey, this is the first time that i've heard of this day. Huh, pretty funny. I think i'm gonna start celebrating this starting next year.
Also, to not be very off-topic, i searched for something that could be qualified as. I think fits well:
Thinking what people have actually done in name of christianity, I'm fairly certain that Hitler's actions wouldn't seem that bad in comparision. It's just that we have much more knowledge of them, than from, say crusades, and in general the trend is to say crusaders were cool guys who liberated land and not afraid of anything.
Wut? The crusades were a territorial war more than they were a religious war. Religion was only part of the animosity between the groups, but popular belief is that the big bad christians came and raped and murdered for kicks. Both groups hated each other, and had been fighting over the territory for a long time. Much like the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, both parties are to blame. Furthermore, you can't really be equating war deaths to the not-directly war-related murder of 6 million Jews plus many others, can you?
I dislike this day only because it is childish. Blasphemy should be allowed on every day, but it doesn't really warrant a special day.
I'm all for mocking fanaticism, extremism, and the likes every day. Religion? Not really (not the same thing by definition).
I like 4/4s for 7.
Does this mean I can make a "Happy Racism Day" and it is then okay to make fun of peoples race for a day?
What about "Happy anti-homosexual Day!"?
Racism and homophobia attacks existing people. Blasphemy is a victimless crime.

Christianity is despicable. It makes it OK to go around telling people they will burn in hell for all eternity.
When religious oppression stops, maybe there won't be such a backlash against it?
So, if you're looking at it from the perspective from which the idea was made, you'll see that we're not making fun of people, but rather protesting against those who oppose free speech.

Anyway,
I had a blast on blasphemy day, I took one of my 4 row MTG box tops and wrote
"All Gods are FAKE
All Preachers LIE
There is NO Magic Man in the Sky
Happy BLASPHEMY DAY 2009"
I managed to avoid killing anyone,
Ahh snap.
