I've done it in the past, and I've done it in a different way as a sort of pseudo-meditation.
It's quite relaxing, and if you aren't doing anything (i.e. waiting for something or any other general boredom) it can be quite a way to think new thoughts and observe new... well, observations.
When I first did it on one sleepless night awaiting a holiday, I just sat down comfortably, killed the lights, and thought nothing. Thinking nothing can be quite difficult, especially with stimuli and even without stimuli. When studying another religion (either buddhism or hinduism) for a class, I discovered a simpler way to induce meditation. Concentrate only on breathing or your heartbeat without thinking actual thoughts.
It was quite pleasant and helped pass the time when doing nothing in some classes. I don't meditate much anymore, but perhaps I should think about trying again... anti-pun unintended.

I don't 'meditate' but I do, every once in awhile, 'creative visualizaiton'. I am very bad at it, because apparently, I *want* to be bad at it. Go figure.
I find the best way to meditate is to just sit down (with back strait, it helps) close my eyes and count to twenty in my head. I count very slowly and when im done ill count again if i feel i need to. I find that if i count it actually helps me space out.
I started meditation a couple of weeks ago...
each night, before going to bed I take 1 moment 4 myself, sit down on my bed and close my eyes for 5-15 min
to me its very helpful... I always have problem on sleeping... since I started meditation I dont have big problems on sleeping... still I have... but its much better now
to empty my mind I use the same method that someone before posted: my concentration goes on the breath that comes in and goes out very slowly...

I have a rock fountain that i always listen to while i meditate. its pretty much what monks do, they just listen to a continual sound to help them. most people just use their breath. it helps in martial arts because by practicing it, it keeps you calm, and during times when you must deffend yourself, a clear mind is key. I meditate for about a half an hour if i can.

When I down a fairy you know I'm only getting started mother f***er.
a) yes.
b) yes, it helps me calm down.
c) I use water sounds and incense or candles. I've also tried past life meditation, but it hasn't worked well so far. My grandmother's had amazing experiences though, so I'll keep trying.
a) Yes
b) Absolutely, it brings a serenity I cant find otherwise.
c) Simply sitting in the dark, I'll play music at times, although that varies from Linkin Park (kind of unorthodox) to Nobuo Uematsu (Composer for Final Fantasy and other video games).
So I was curious:
a) Does anyone here do meditation?
b) Do you find it helpful?
c) What is your prefered method of meditation?
b) yes
c) I prefer no sound and close my eyes. Thinking of nothing or something very simple in very slow motion helps me relax and focus.

Not only is it relaxing, but it also gives you an increased focus in your everyday life. Give it a shot!

I think I'll be trying that...
Anyways, the first night was somewhat successful. Semi-relaxed. Only reason was because I knew I had to go to work today. :'(

Not my cup of tea though, I'm not a high stress person so I've never felt the need to meditate. I ponder sometimes, but it's hardly the same thing.
