MafiaScum run a team event every year. We liked this idea, and are poised to steal it. However, it represents a significant commitment of people to get off the ground, so we decided to run a pilot game.
This is that pilot game.
Here's how it works:
Signups require three teams each comprised of three players.
Three games will be run simultanously
Each of these games will be a three player game (2 Town, 1 Mafia), and each game will have exactly one member from each team playing in it. The games will last something like a week to 10 days.
Role PMs will be distributed completely randomly distributed: this means that it is NOT guaranteed that a team will receieve 2 Town, 1 Mafia PM.
Team members can communicate completely freely in private about the games they're in
The team that wins the most individual games wins overall
So it's like a MTG team event, or a Hydra game where everyone is playing their own game instead of just one. We think it'll be a fun experience that pits great players against each other with the additional joy of collaboration with your partners in crime.
But Eco, why such small games?
9 players is basically the miniumum required for a team event to actually be a team event. We're running this pilot to guage interst and build some hype, because any bigger event will require a significant number of our active players to participate.
While a 2v1 game is not exactly a traditional game of Mafia, it is the ultimate thunderdome: the team that wins is the team that makes the correct call, with maximum possible levels of player agency. The objective is to make sure the best team wins by their own merits.
In order to sign up, we need:
One player to post in here with the full list of team members, a team name, and a designated captain
The other two players to confirm their willingness to participate
A willingness to provide feedback
You can sign up solo, but I'll be giving a preference to actual teams. If there aren't enough for some reason I'll random solo players into teams. Feel free to LFT post.
Most of all, what we're looking for is FEEDBACK from everyone either now or after the games (or both). What do we think is the optimum team size? How about game size - do we want smaller games to ensure the best team wins and minimise the capacity for other teams to get carried, or do we want big slugfests? Could we ressurect the League scoring system in some format? What kind of game complexity should we run? How can we advertise this to crusty old hacks?

I think 3 games of 7 with 2 scum each could actually be a good time; however, I understand if we might not have the playerbase to support such a thing.

See above.
Could we ressurect the League scoring system in some format?
Dear god, no.
What kind of game complexity should we run?
Anything inherently swingy gets a "no" from me. If this is truly a test of skill, we want our setups to be as simple and elegant as possible.

3 games of seven would tap us out but it might be doable if every active player other than the mods were in. That's 22 people total if the same person runs all three games.
I think seven players is too few for a mountainous game unless you did, like, 6/1 which is, hmm, not really mafia to me with just one wolf.
Seven with a 1 shot vig or a 1 shot cop is a bit swingy but rewards the vig/cop for having goods reads more than something like an IC.
A five man 3/2 mountainous game is functionally similar to the three man 2/1 proposal with the benefit of having a scum partner present for behavioral analysis to catch, but is still really scum sided, even more than the 2/1 set up because you have to win two lylos in a row as town.
As it is, I don't think I'm super interested in playing in a 2/1 game, heh.
I'd be much more interested in a larger set up as part of a team event like this, though.
"Team members can communicate completely freely in private about the games they're in"
Any restrictions to this (in terms of where or how)? Does a mod still has to be present for text channels? Does everything have to be recorded in some way?
Mod oversight is broadly required, and I think for this pilot I would like to mandate mod-created QuickTopics because they are easier parse for feedback. I guess for the main event I'm not sure if oversight would be mandatory - to decide that we need to have a think about whether it is necessary.
KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
This is that pilot game.

But if I'll be the second, then we'll only need the first person, right?

Seven player games with a cop, doc and a scum role locker seem fine?

Can I be first?
Oooh, it's been a while since I've got to be in a game together with you, Rhand! (Though, technically we aren't in same game, but whatever.)
Well volunteered!
We only need ONE more team to get started, and with two spicy free agents available there's no better time to get involved!
Wonder twin powers, unite!
EDIT: And Kpaca makes three.
