“What else can be expected when gods do battle?”
- Apocalypse, J. Robert King
Except these aren’t gods, it’s the POWER NINE, *****es! This thread is the reason Yawgmoth is *****ting himself right now!
Here’s the story!
Some of the POWER NINE get mad at the other members of the POWER NINE and decide that murder and organized crime are great ways to resolve differences. In response, all of the POWER NINE get together and decide they need an organized forum so they can yell over each other and enact mob justice.
Who will win? Probably not Dominia, that's for damn sure. All sorts of planes of existence are going to get wrecked.
Here are the players!
Still alive: (4)
Black Lotus - Grapefruit21
Mox Jet - KJ
Mox Pearl - Prophylaxis
Dead: (5)
Ancestral Recall - Crossbell Gentleman_Johnny - TOWN - Poisoned, stabbed, shot, hung, stretched, disembowled, drawn-and-quartered, and decapitated Day 1.
Mox Sapphire - D_V - TOWN - Disenchanted 58 times, then targeted by Uktabi Orangutans Night 1.
Timetwister - DOTArchon - TOWN - Placed into the One Ring, then thrown into a volcano Day 2.
Mox Emerald - Axelrod - TOWN - Destroyed when the mafia destroyed every plane except Dominaria Night 2.
Time Walk - Cantripmancer Ecophagy - MAFIA - Succumbed to wounds after destroying every planeswalker that ever existed
Mox Ruby - LastWhisper - TOWN - Destroyed by laser fire from 2,097,152 simultaneous Death Star blasts.
Here are the rules!
1. This game is for people who can handle extreme power without being total jerks. Any rude or toxic behavior of any kind will not be tolerated. If you can’t handle playing a children’s game without starting a flame war, don’t bother signing up. On the other hand, if you can handle limitless power while still being courteous and respectful to others, you may be worthy enough to count yourself among the POWER NINE!
The Power Nine abound in power, and there is no greater power than the power of sportsmanlike conduct.
2. There are 7 towns and 2 mafia. This is known to everyone at onset. The Town wins by killing all the mafia. The Mafia wins by killing all the towns.
A wise man knows his enemy, and there is no one wiser than a member of the Power Nine.
3. Technically, every member of the Power Nine has every ability that has ever existed at any time ever, including those that would break the mind of Yawgmoth himself were he to attempt to conceive of them.
However, every Power Nine also has abilities that protect against and nullify everyone else’s abilities. So in the end, it’s a wash.
The net result is that the only abilities that exist in this game are the mafia abilities to nightkill and communicate.
There is nothing “vanilla” about a Power Nine.
4. The mafia have the ability to communicate at all times, both night and day.
The movements of the sun have no power over the Power Nine.
5. The Power Nine already know who everyone’s roles are at the start. They also know that the roles have no bearing on who is mafia or town, as the mafia are decided by random number generator after the roles have been assigned.
Upon signing up for this game, you may request a particular role, or just express that you have no preference. Those who do not express a preference will be randomly assigned after we get 9 players in the game.
And, just for fun, if you decide you want to be a replacement, go ahead and request a particular card that isn’t one of the Power Nine. I left a few suggestions in the signup.
The only being capable of contending with a member of the Power Nine is another member of the Power Nine.
6. The game is broken down into cycles of day and night. During the night, there is no posting. During Day, players will vote on who to remove from the game. The lengths of both phases are set initially at 6 days for day phase and 2 days for night phase. Players have the option to adjust Day length. (For example: REQUEST: Extend today by 24 hours. or REQUEST: shorten day length to 5 days.
The mafia may also request flexibility with regards to their night length.
Time is relative. The Power Nine are absolute.
7. All votes must be in bold. (Example: Vote: Whoever.) When a player receives a majority of the vote, that player will be removed from the game.
In the event that deadline for day is reached and no player has a majority of the vote, the player with the most votes will be removed from the game. If two or more players are tied for plurality, no one is voting, or if No Lynch receives the majority/plurality vote, game will proceed to night with no removals. In the event that there is a tie between one player and No Lynch, that player will be removed from the game.
If we were all angels, we would not need a government. The Power Nine are beyond any other being, and therefore have no need for democracy..
8. Players are mandated to make one post every 48 hours or face replacement. Any issues with this should be PMed to me. I understand life can get in the way, especially with it being the summer and people having holiday plans, but given the small size of the game, lurking will really hurt the atmosphere, so please be ready to commit to active participation if you sign up.
The Power Nine do not lurk. Unborn babies can feel their presence.
8. As per usual, no discussing the game with people outside the game, no PMing a non-mod about the game unless you’re mafia, no quoting PMs, etc.
The secrets of the Power Nine are not meant for mortals to know.
9. Be excellent to one another. This may well be the last game on MTGSalvation, let’s make it one to remember.
Many strive for excellence. The Power Nine embody it.
Any rude or toxic behavior of any kind will not be tolerated.
In order to foster a mature and congenial atmosphere for all forum-goers, even (or especially) observers, I'm going to politely ask that everyone refrain from using the word 'lynch' to the best of their ability. Thanks in advance for being respectful and inclusive - have a good game!

Trolling will not be permitted on this thread. Nor will posting by people who are neither players nor mods.
Instead, you can spend your time working on being a better person.
Alright, everyone is confirmed. Game will begin shortly.
A reminder to please read all of the rules.
Also, since apparently I have to say this:
- Do not post unless you're involved in the game or a staff member of the forum.
- Do not troll.
- Do not be yet another person who thinks it's ok to co-opt the plight of minorities in order to aggrandize one's own ego by making bad faith posts of performative outrage, purely in an attempt to troll the mods, or indeed anyone else. We can go to tumblr for that.
And so began the days of the conflict of the Power Nine, which would ravage not merely the multiverse, but the very fabric of reality, all threads of space and time rent and torn asunder, leaving nothing - not even void - in their place.
I remember the first day. I remember cowering in fear as magic itself seemed to tremble, waiting helplessly for annihilation to, inexorably, find its way to me.
The memories still haunt me. And that was merely the first day…
- Nicol Bolas
The Power Nine manifested on a.volcanic demiplane to discuss what they had foreseen. For you see, the Power Nine could see through time the way a hawk sees through air, the way a bat echolocates, the way a shark perceives blood in water…
Each of the Power Nine had received the same vision moments before.
“Two among us will betray us and seek to kill the others.”
“Each of us has received this vision.”
“Yet their identities are unknown to us. How will we stop these conspirators?”
“That is why we have assembled here. The Power Nine’s mastery of blue and artifact magic is limitless. Therefore, the best way to assure an even playing field is for this battle to take place on a ground saturated with magic that is antagonistic to both.”
“… Mountainous…”
“Precisely.”
“Then let us begin…”
The Power Nine have caused the sun to rise on DAY 1.
With 9 remaining, it is 5 to lynch.
GAME ON!
Day is currently set to end at 11:00 PM EST (23:00 EST) on Friday, July 2.
Ambush Krotiq makes me laugh so much. I keep rereading the card and it keeps not having Flash. In what sense is this an ambush again? I just have visions of this huge Krotiq poorly concealed in some bushes, feeling slightly sad that his carefully planned ambushes never seem to work.

Timetwister is like the ugly stepchild of the power nine. I kind of feel sorry for it.

@dota
because that's what we do
we know what to look for to find each others alignment
though Proph is definitely a lot better than he thinks, more so than me, at playing wolf
Just for 100% disclosure: I am 99.9% sure I know who the person behind the Crossbell alt is (it can only realistically be one person). The reason why I'm using the spiderman meme is because Crossbell is my username on a couple different mafia sites. I won't out the person behind the alt unless they want me to, though.
Quote from Lastwhisper »
Well that's weird both your usernames are being used at once, I don't like this.
If you don't like it, then why is your vote not on either one of us?
Quote from Lastwhisper »
if I'm not dead tonight, can I death tunnel you? Lol
I mean, you're alive right now, and you can interrogate me to try and figure out my alignment. Why are you saying "tunnel Proph if I die" instead of.. y'know, actually doing the legwork right now?

We only won Darling in the Franxx because we had a gassed up wolfteam. Snow White is a much more accurate representation of my scumgame (able to pull the wool over people's heads early, then die in f3).

If I die tonight snap vote wisp out of the game thanks.
That's all I got so far.
You're doing the same thing as Wisp - why are you waiting until you're dead to get people to vote for the person you're scumreading? People generally do not listen to dead/NK'd players - every townie this game is working off of the same information, besides the fact that each of them knows that they're town.

His early posts feel incredibly clumsy to me.
Not a huge fan of this post.
I'm not truly advocating for anything. Me saying if I die "Whisp is scum" is more of a meta joke than anything else.
I see nothing out of the ordinary for whisp's posts.
Why are you waiting for stuff to happen as opposed to... making things happen?
when do I ever try to make things happen? i mean maybe sometimes I will try, still too early, I am usually good at ending RVS in mechanical games, but in a vanilla game, ya I got nothing
KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.

As someone who is largely unfamiliar with the relationship between you and Wisp, I did not see it as a meta joke.
Talk to me about Wisp. You see "nothing out of the ordinary" about him - what does that mean exactly? Do you think he's town, scum, or is he null for you?

I'm pretty sure your town game is more proactive than this?
And mountainous/vanilla games IMO it's important to get conversation started early - because we have no mechanical information to rely on. We are also only working with six IRL days. The setup is already scumsided as is, and I want us to make the best use of our game time if possible.
Wisp - I thought you'd use the chance that "both my usernames were being used at once" as an invitation to RVS vote someone. I'm a little surprised you didn't do it this game.
There's a fake Crossbell in this game! And he has a Curse Premium subscription! Obvious scum! Vote Prophylaxis
@Crossbell: Is placing a second vote on someone (hypothetically town) who hasn't come in yet really a thing? On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the worst) how scummy do you find it?
I think Axel not including Timetwister kinda reads to me as "less likely aligned" than "criminal mastermind obviously avoiding his buddy" especially since that would be optimal distancing time.
@DotA]/b] What you did was being Timetwister, obviously.

As to the nothing out of the ordinary, yeah he's null for me. I'm not really seeing something town Wisp wouldn't do, or that his scum meta couldn't mimic.
I'm not a huge fan of the Proph push on Wisp because its pretty reaching IMO and he should know better.

I'm not truly advocating for anything. Me saying if I die "Whisp is scum" is more of a meta joke than anything else.
I see nothing out of the ordinary for whisp's posts.
Vote Proph
his luck on this site would be so devastating if that was the case again
I wanna give him a chance
has an invitation to vote either of them, is quite weird
As someone who is largely unfamiliar with the relationship between you and Wisp, I did not see it as a meta joke.
Talk to me about Wisp. You see "nothing out of the ordinary" about him - what does that mean exactly? Do you think he's town, scum, or is he null for you?
I'm pretty sure your town game is more proactive than this?
And mountainous/vanilla games IMO it's important to get conversation started early - because we have no mechanical information to rely on. We are also only working with six IRL days. The setup is already scumsided as is, and I want us to make the best use of our game time if possible.
KJ - that's why we are m o v i n g
@Proph Yeah this can't wait anymore.
Unvote
Hopefully the next half of the game posts in the next 24 hours.
Why do we all write Wisp when his name is Wh[/]isper?
Anyways, Wisp has killed me night one in every game he's been scum on MC.
As to the nothing out of the ordinary, yeah he's null for me. I'm not really seeing something town Wisp wouldn't do, or that his scum meta couldn't mimic.
I'm not a huge fan of the Proph push on Wisp because its pretty reaching IMO and he should know better.
