Welcome to Modern Mafia, a Specialty game for 16 players.

Rules (inspired by Xylthixlm, stolen from Ged!)
[0] Please copy all PMs to Prophylaxis, the mod of the game.
[1] I will enforce the rules strictly, because I'm evil like that.
[2] Your vote must be in bold. You don't need to unvote before voting. In addition, you may vote No Lynch - if a majority is reached, the day will end with no one being lynched.
[3] If my vote count doesn't seem to reflect your vote, just revote.
[4] Once your death scene has been posted, you're dead. Dead people don't make forum posts. If you make a post after you are dead, I will hunt you down. For the record, I actually have a text file on my computer of all the people who've broken this rule in the past. I may or may not have plans for it. In addition, do not post in the thread at Night.
[5] Post at least once every 48 hours. If you don't, I'll hunt you down. And prod you. After that you’ll be given at most another 48 hours or so before you are either replaced or modkilled. If you're going to be without computer access for more than 48 hours, let me know ahead of time either in the thread or by PM. Remember, people: if we work together we can have a replacement free game, but that can only happen with your help.
[6] No funny stuff like invisible text, tiny text, cryptography, or acronym claims.
[7] Don't edit posts.
[8] Don't quote PMs or private communications.
[9] You may not talk outside of the thread to anyone about anything that goes on in this game. Period. Whether you're dead, or they're dead, whether they're in the game or not. The only place that this is permissible is in the spectator chat, or when a role directly contradicts these rules.
[10] Have fun and be nice to the other players and me, even if we don't deserve it.
I reserve the right to modkill any player who breaks any rule [5] or higher. This applies especially to [9], but also note it’s application to [5]. I do not like making people replace into my games. I do not like spending time looking for replacements. I do not like slowing down the game while we go through this whole song and dance of looking for a replacement. Modkills circumvent all these things.
If you EVER have questions about the game, PM me. I love having more ways to procrastinate, and caring to your every whim is one of my favorites. If you are confused, curious, or unsure about anything ever, let me know before doing anything stupid.
Game-Specific Rules
[0] The game will use a majority lynch system. If the deadline expires without a majority lynch, the player with the most votes on them will be lynched. If there is a tie, then I will randomize between the players who are tied to decide the lynch.
[1] Deadlines will be two weeks for Day, and 48 hours for Night. I reserve the right to shorten or extend the deadlines when the game becomes smaller (or by player request). This game also uses the Megiddo system of deadline extension; more details on this below.
[2] When a player is lynched, you may continue to post until I post the flip.
[3] This game has limited flip information. Whenever a player dies, only their role name, alignment and role classification will be revealed. I will provide an example of this in the sample role PM listed below.
[4] The town win condition is "Eliminate all threats". The mafia win condition is "The mafia wins when they equal or outnumber the remaining players.".
[5] I make no promises about public answers to any question. If you have a question about your role or a rules interaction, please communicate with me privately.

As everyone's playing their Round 1, you see an interesting sight near your table. One of the players starts off with Grove of the Burnwillows into Chromatic Star, into a Mox Opal and Mind Stone the second turn. "This guy couldn't be..." you think to yourself, as your opponent is tanking on how to sequence their land drop. Then it happens. They move to their turn, tap the Opal, Grove, Darksteel Citadel, and the Mind Stone to play the dreaded card: Krark-Clan Ironworks.
"Judge!" you hear that player's opponent yell. A judge swings by the table and asks. "What's the situation here?" That player's opponent calmly explains. "My opponent played a card that is not legal in the Modern format," he says. The judge goes over to the player who just resolved their Krark-Clan Ironworks. "Well, you get a Match Loss for playing with a banned card," the judge says.
You stop watching and focus your attention back to the boardstate, where your opponent has just played their land drop for the turn. "Man, I'm glad that didn't happen to me!" you exclaim to your opponent.
Silvercrys3467 has been killed in the Pregame.
He was Ironworks Combo, Town One-Shot Copier. (This is how flips will be displayed; I will post an example town role PM below, but role PMs will not be displayed upon flip)
Ironworks Combo
Alignment:Town
Role Classification: Town One-Shot Copier
Flavor: Matt Nass designed this deck and piloted KCI to a Top 4 finish at GP Phoenix and won him both GP Hartford and GP Las Vegas. Over the last three Modern GPs that season, he had a 36-6 record with the deck, giving him an overall win record of 85% and terrorizing the format. The reason why the deck is so good? It’s incredibly consistent, people don’t know how to play against it, and it takes advantage of some weird rules quirks in order to operate. The rules quirk that the deck takes advantage of is that you are allowed to activate mana abilities as many times as you want in order to pay for a spell’s casting cost. This means that, with an active Krark-Clan Ironworks on the battlefield, you can sacrifice, say, Myr Retriever and Scrap Trawler to pay for a Terrarion, and then bring back Myr Retriever, Scrap Trawler, and an artifact with converted mana cost one or less. The reason is because Scrap Trawler “sees” both the Scrap Trawler and the Myr Retriever dying, so you can grab the Myr Retriever with one Scrap Trawler trigger and an artifact with converted mana cost one or less with the other Scrap Trawler trigger, then you can use the Myr Retriever trigger to grab Scrap Trawler, letting you do it all over again.
Still following?
The deck has a powerful engine with a lot of redundancy (playing some of the best cards in the format, such as Ancient Stirrings and Mox Opal), it plays in extremely complex rules-space, has a resistance to effects such as Extirpate and Surgical Extraction because they can usually bring back the artifact that is targeted with that card, thereby fizzling the spell’s effect. It’s also able to maindeck copies of Engineered Explosives, which allows it to interact with problem permanents such as Rest in Peace and Damping Sphere. You can easily get free wins from people not understanding how your deck works, so you are poised to take full advantage of these incompetent players and send them packing.
Abilities:
Scrap Trawler - Once per game, at Night, you may target a player. If that player took a night action that Night, you will copy that ability and inherit it as your own.
Win Condition: Eliminate all threats.
It is now Day 1.
With 16 alive, it takes 9 votes to lynch.
Day 1 will end on Friday, August 16th, at 11:59 PM.
KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
How dare you refuse the honour.
Only scum does that.
Vote Cantripmancer
@Grapefruit21 For the sake of our budding friendship that will become real beautiful, you have to vote with me here.
@shadowlancerx You too, pretty pretty please. Don't bully the new kid.
Btw, based on my very reliable memory, Grape would vote with me because he's a good person. If he doesn't, that means he's scum.
---
I'm not sure what's the rule of double post here so I'll just write everything here.
Shadow, I don't think Rhand highlighted your dumbness, you did.
Oh, that's my everything.. I thought I had more to say but I don't.

Looking forward to a good game.

As well, multiposting rules are more relaxed than the rest of the forum, so don’t get into spammy territory and you’re good.

@Cantrip: It’s gross for a couple of reasons. Being willing to lynch people you actively think are town (outside of last second no lynch avoidance, which is bad play on a game wide level for letting it get to that) is a scum mentality. Additionally, saying that up front means that there is no accountability; I can’t ask Vez tomorrow why he lynched someone today, which completely eliminates an avenue of generating a read on him.
As far as why he’s probably town is because he just page one gave out mechanical info, knowing that he was planning to do something that he likely doesn’t want to and knows has bad ramifications.

As far as why he’s probably town is because he just page one gave out mechanical info, knowing that he was planning to do something that he likely doesn’t want to and knows has bad ramifications.
I feel like there's a minor mindset mismatch in what you're saying. First, you note that it's (according to Vez) for mechanical reasons, so why would it be indicative of a scum mentality? Wouldn't the mechanical aspect put it pretty firmly in the land of NAI? Second, Vez--if telling the truth--knows that he has a reason to be on EVERY wagon, a reason that he won't necessarily be able to explain from his posts. Hence why he's outing that info now. This is why I agree that him doing so is town indicative: 1) he's telling us up front "hey, you won't be able to sort me (as easily) based on my wagon presence". 2) As you mentioned, he's openly sharing info and locking himself into a reality, which scum generally don't like to do (a reality that, also as you said, could be viewed as questionable). The more possibilities they can edge into late game, the better.
So when you said "gross", it felt a little like shade. Because you said you thought it made him town, but you applied a negative connotation up front. Obviously you'd say I'm reading too much into this as either alignment; can you articulate why you'd apply a descriptor that paints Vez's action in a negative light if you think he's town?
On the flip side, how likely do you think it that scum a) fakeclaim as Vez did (that is, not having a mechanical reason for being on every wagon), and b) claim just like Vez did (truly having a mechanical reason for being on every wagon)?
Someone who shall remain nameless somewhat recently suggested that I ought to make a gimmick and try playing as someone else, and I was like, if I go more than ten posts without a wall, I get the jitters; I'll out myself by page 1!
Tom, for the vote, for the pocketing, or for something else?

I’m gonna start here cause it’s the heart of the matter. The idea of a player planning to lynch anyone and everyone that gets wagoned to lynch, including town reads is gross. I don’t like it, it’s not play I think is healthy (even though it can pan out, take Tom’s role in secret agent Mafia as an example). Absolutely agree that it’s a negative connotation. Saying it up front and recognizing that he might as well mention it ahead of time comes from a place that I would bet is townie 9/10 times.
If scum pull a role that says “you get x if you’re on the lynch wagon” then that scum player more than likely plans to adjust their play and reads so that you can make that work. Much less likely that you take the approach of being candid about it off the bat.

A. Super unlikely, it’s not a like scum would take this early, knowing they’d have to make up a fake claim.
B. More likely than A, less likely than town doing it by a pretty big margin.
Non-answers to simple questions are an excellent way to begin the hunt for scum. How would you describe your scum hunting technique and answering "differently."

I'm pretty sure selfmeta, especially 5 year old selfmeta, falls into the category of words that mean nothing, but okay?
I think my strategy was mostly to push back against early game lynches I didn't like so I could judge who was being sincere. And then POE towards the end leaning on comparing people's actions with their claimed reasoning and feelings.

With 16 alive, it takes 9 votes to lynch.
Day 1 will end on Friday, August 16th, at 11:59 PM.
Is there a clue to your identity in your name? Or rather is your name the clue?
Cause I remember I love him/her, but I forgot why.
Idk who candycorn is. Sounds like chesskid to me.
Also I need to be on the lynch wagon for reasons. I will vote players if they are close to being lynched even if I believe they are town.
Thanks to DNC at Heroes of the plane studios for this awesome sig and SGT_Chubbz for the awesome avy.

Good intuition, she isn't.
In con ceivable!
Also, not so much a clue as simple laziness.
Anyway, vez has defended against my case well.

Some say it's because of my cute avatar, others because of my great wit and analysis. Both are appropriate options. Also, him.
Is this automatic or an action chosen by you?
Lair of the Cat (Mafia Stats)
As far as why he’s probably town is because he just page one gave out mechanical info, knowing that he was planning to do something that he likely doesn’t want to and knows has bad ramifications.
I'm not sure I know the answer to that yet. It's been a long time, so probably differently.
Gencon etc.
The person four posts above this one is scum.
Fly, my pretties.
Fair enough.

Just kidding, page one wallposts deserve death.
What’s up.

Tom, for the vote, for the pocketing, or for something else?
If scum pull a role that says “you get x if you’re on the lynch wagon” then that scum player more than likely plans to adjust their play and reads so that you can make that work. Much less likely that you take the approach of being candid about it off the bat. A. Super unlikely, it’s not a like scum would take this early, knowing they’d have to make up a fake claim.
B. More likely than A, less likely than town doing it by a pretty big margin.
Non-answers to simple questions are an excellent way to begin the hunt for scum. How would you describe your scum hunting technique and answering "differently."
So hi KCC, please answer how you hunt scum with precise words and not with words that mean nothing. Thank you.

You were actually the only one. And I'm shocked how far we got here with everyone typing this name out in full.
We can't vote for ourself Tom.
Thank you.
