After you sign the book, you sit down on a comfy looking brown leather couch in the corner.
“Thank you all.” Mr. Boddy smiles and resumes his position in the center of the room. “Anyway. On to business. I know I said I called you here for a dinner party, but that wasn’t entirely true. I’ve been using my resources to solve a… let’s call it a mutual problem… most of us have. You see, most of us are being blackmailed by a group that hides in the shadows. A group that calls themselves the Nexus. I know for a fact some of you are members of that group. I plan to figure out who and report you to the authorities. And it behooves the rest of you to help me.”
Mr. Boddy smiles smugly to himself. “However, it’s getting late. My butler will take you to your rooms, then tomorrow I’ll be questioning all of you individually. And I’ve taken the liberty of disabling your cars so there’s no leaving until we’ve figured this out” Boddy strides towards the door. “Oh, and I am sorry I lied about the dinner party. It was quite rude of me.” He then leaves, hands clasped behind his back.
Boddy stops, and over his shoulder says quietly “I hope you enjoy your stay here.”
Taken aback by this news, you decide you need sleep after such a long drive, and let the butler take you to your room.
You’re awoken in the night a familiar baritone gong very loudly resonating throughout the house. Once, twice, three times. Then, a bloodcurdling scream. You run out onto the second-floor landing to see what the commotion is. You see a maid standing in the foyer pointing in horror at the door. You all make your way outside onto the front landing and see a familiar man hanging lifeless from the doorbell chord.
Prophylaxis, Mr. Boddy (Neutral Party Host) has died in the Pregame.
Quote from "Role PM" »
You are Mr. Boddy, Neutral Party Host
Now just a stereotypical rich guy who loves to party, you made your millions buying and selling real estate. This manor is one of the few things you have left of your old life.
Night Actions: Despite having a fun rolename, you have no night actions.
The butler hobbles out to the front landing and shuts the door behind him to shield everyone from the macabre scene. He then comes back in, again closing the door behind him, holding a small box. He goes to the center of the foyer, removes the box top, and removes a piece of paper from the box. He then clears his throat, and begins reading.
“Good morning. Perhaps not very good, as if this is being read, I am dead. Murdered. How unfortunate. I must issue a call to arms to the rest of you: the Nexus did this. Find them, and eliminate them.
Good luck,
B. ”
The butler then exits the foyer swiftly back to his quarters.
KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
#0: I am the mod and I reserve the rights to change these rules.
I am the final arbiter of role interactions and game rule infringements. I will never lie or intentionally mislead you. If you have a problem with a ruling I make, please shelve it until after the game. To the best of my and my reviewers' knowledge, this is not a bastard game.
#1: Have fun, be respectful towards the other players and follow the normal forum rules. This is a game, which we're playing for fun. Expect a low tolerance for flaming.
You are responsible for following all forum and subforum rules and guidelines. Forum-wide rules are available here. Mafia subforum rules are available here. Additional subforum rules are here:
-Game Limit-
Players may participate in only three games at any given time. An exception to this rule can be made by moderators in need of a replacement for a game, if no other replacement can be found.
-Suicide-
If you no longer wish to participate in a game for any reason, contact the moderator. Do NOT attempt to force the moderator to modkill you.
-Current Game Discussion-
A player in an ongoing game may not discuss that game with any other player in that game, or in public forums. Also, it is a good idea to ask permission before discussing the game with anyone outside the game, because they can no longer replace into the game once any meaningful discussion takes place.
-Cryptoclaims-
Unless explicitly authorized by the game moderator in their opening rules section, cryptoclaims are forbidden.
-Out-of-game Promises-
Players may not use out-of-game promises (example: I swear on my grandmother's life, I bet you my entire collection of magic cards, etc.) in an effort to influence other players.
-Multiple Players On One Account
"Hydra" accounts - multiple people playing and posting as one player with shared access to the "gimmick" account, are not allowed unless they have prior approval from the specific game Moderator. Please do not do this on your own.
-Traitor/Alignment Switching Roles
Game moderators are strongly encouraged to be extraordinarily careful if they seek to include a traitor role in their designs. These roles are notorious for causing games to implode, for creating fairness concerns, and for the challenge they pose to the town's behavioral analysis. (See Discussion in Council Thread, Post 3351, onwards.)
Mafia is a game, we’re here to have fun. Please be respectful of your fellow players. Sometimes emotions run high and we get caught up in the moment. That is not an excuse for flaming or poor sportsmanship.
Flaming is a hostile verbal attack directed at another person or group of people. Trolling is the act of deliberately provoking a hostile reaction from other users. These actions will not be tolerated. Additionally, harassing and flaming someone via PMs may trigger more severe offenses, up to and including a suspension.
We do not recognize excuses such as "he flamed me first!"; if you feel attacked by other members, report the post and let moderators handle it rather than flame back. Similarly, if you feel that someone is trolling, just report the post/thread. Calling someone a troll also amounts to flaming/trolling.
The rule of thumb is to criticize the idea, not the person. You may think a deck is bad, and you may say so (though make it constructive), but a deck being bad doesn't make the poster an idiot. Be respectful.
Responding to other people with unwarranted hostility, picking fights and in general being a jerk to other members is also grounds for moderation. Remember, it is everyone's job to be friendly and civilized, and maintain other users' good forum experience. We want people to get along.
Even though Mafia involves attacking other players, flaming is still not allowed. Please refrain from personal insults, especially personal insults coupled with profanity. Attacking another user's play (e.g. "That was an incredibly stupid vote") is acceptable.
Also, remember that image leeching is not allowed on MTGSalvation.
Image leeching is hot linking to an image (using [img] tags) that is NOT hosted on:
MTGSalvation.com (including anything starting media-dominaria.cursecdn.com)
MagicCards.info
Your own webhosting
An image uploading site like Facebook, ImageShack.us or Photobucket.com
A site that has given you express permission to hotlink
We HIGHLY suggest that all Rumor Mill posts attach images to the posts using the forums' own software. We have had cases in the past where WoTC's website was down and images were unavailable, and where Photobucket/personal image sites removed high traffic images.
If you are unsure whether a site is considered a photo hosting website, the best thing to do is upload them to MTG Salvation or your own photo hosting website account. Alternatively, you can ask a moderator.
While profanity itself is not against the forum rules, and you are free to include profanity in your posts as appropriate, certain words are automatically censored by forum software. Do not attempt to evade the censor. Self-censoring, any attempt to 'cheat' a word past the censor, or attempting to clarify what a censored word is, are all considered censor evasion. If you're going to swear, just swear.
While I don't care about cursing, I will report, replace, and/or modkill you for derogatory content, in particular, slurs, in relation to another user or person, at my own reasonable discretion.
#2: Keep the out-of-game separate from the in-game. This is a modkillable offence.
DO NOT talk about this game outside of this thread and quicktopic links or PMs given to you in your role PM or approved by me. Please ensure I am copied in on any out-of-game messages sent to other players.
DO NOT directly quote or screenshot your role PM or any private communications (QuickTopics, etc.) when posting in the main game thread. This includes mason chats and scum chats. Please paraphrase - if you are in doubt, ask me before posting!
When generating (or faking, as applicable) reads, please do not use angleshooting or out of game knowledge, to the best of your ability. This means do not use the timing, reasons, or order of substitutions and modkills to influence others, do not use the timing or phrasing of role PMs to influence others, do not make alignment bets with out of game consequences, and do not use “trust tells” or similar. This list is not exhaustive.
#3: DO NOT edit, delete, or thank posts. Even if it’s an accidental double post. This is a modkillable offense.
#4: No funny business. DO NOT use invisible text, cryptography, tiny writing, hidden messages, acronym/alphabet claims, or similar. DO NOT post after you are dead. DO NOT post if you are not a player. This is a modkillable offense.
#5: Post game-related content at least once every 48 hours. LET'S MAKE THIS A REPLACEMENT-FREE GAME, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.
If you have not posted in 48 hours, you will be prodded. Failing to respond to the prod within 48 hours will lead to your replacement. Content is, of course, subjective, but “Posting to avoid prod,” “catching up,” or similar short not-really-game-related posts are obviously not content. If you need to be absent for an extended period of time please post “V/LA until [Date]” in bold on its own line in the thread so that I and the other players know when you’ll be back. You do not need to explain your reasons for being absent in thread. If you will be gone for more than four or five days you should consider requesting replacement.
#6: I make no promises about public answers to any question. If you have a question about your role or a rules interaction, please communicate with me privately.
I will be particularly unlikely to answer questions posed to me in the game thread other than questions about vote counts or deadlines. If you raise a question in a private message that needs addressing to the entire game (regarding a special rule or similar), I will respond as I feel is appropriate.
#7: By confirming that you have received your Role PM you also confirm that you have read it. Not reading your Role PM is a reportable offense.
#8: Once lynch threshold is reached, votes are considered locked in. Votes and unvotes made after that will not be counted. (This is known as the Twilight phase.)
#9: If deadline is reached and no player has reached lynch threshold, the day ends with no lynch.
#10: Make your votes clear to the mod. BOLD your votes and place them on separate line.
Unbolded votes will not be counted, nor will votes in the middle of a huge wall of text. Unvoting is helpful but is not required.
#11: Scum players may submit actions for other scum players if the other scum player has not submitted an action. However, if the other player ever submits an action, their fellow scum cannot change what that player submitted.
#12: DO NOT POST IN THE THREAD DURING THE NIGHT PHASE, UNLESS YOUR ROLE SAYS OTHERWISE.
TL;DR: Be excellent to each other, post something substantial every 48 hours, ask me questions in private when possible, don’t edit or delete posts, no funny business involving cryptography, etc. and... have fun, that’s the whole point.
Day phases will be roughly two weeks long, to be adjusted at moderator discretion.
Night phases will be roughly two days long, to be adjusted at moderator discretion.
This game follows a majority lynch.
Town wins if they eliminate the Mafia.
This game has nothing to do with Star Wars. Yes, I know this is here. I am Killjoy, your mod and I will not be questioned in such a fashion. (lolJK)
You are Billy Maroona, Town Vanilla
You don’t like the word ‘mobster’. But that’s what you are, a legbreaker in the Gianelli crime family. You prefer the phrase “motivation speaker”. You say what you want someone to do, motivate them to do it, bingo bango bongo. It gets done.
Night Actions: You have no night actions.
The Town wincon is "You win when all threats to the town are eliminated"
The Mafia wincon is "You win when all threats to the Mafia are eliminated or nothing can prevent this from happening"

YOu put quite a bit of thought into that response i feel.
I recently compiled my mafia stats, and I've played a few games over on 451, which is a fairly different mafia experience, and it's caused me to be rather introspective.
Silver, I sorta feel like your "hmmm" is similar to "interesting", which is sometimes what scum say when they don't know what to say. Would you say you're the type of scum to say "interesting" when you're not sure what to say?

I'd say it if I'm not sure what to say as both alignments.
I'd also say it if I wanted to say something but wasn't ready to yet~.

Mafia 451 is quite a fun place to play at, i can see why you feel the way you do though.
Silver is pretty easy on the eyes. His strong jawline asking questions that might well go to the root of things. We'll just have to see what he does with them.
Ruma is calling people pretty without having seen their faces, but perhaps his tastes lie elsewhere.
Oh dang it! I just realized I should have responded to silver with an obi wan “hello there”
/missed opportunities
I feel like I want to ask Ruma why exactly he liked Cantrip’s entrance, and then he’ll never answer and I’ll get frustrated, so I’m just not gonna.
Silver, when was the last game we played together (that you finished) and have you actually had a real scum game yet? I feel like you have but I can’t remember and I don’t feel like digging.
@Tom: Do you have plans for this game? Cause if you’re town, you should keep the same mentality you had in GoT, I feel like there was something special there.
For not doing tours in Stuttgart! (Honestly though, trying to convince my wife to road trip to Belgium/Bruges. Anything that would help is much obliged.)
@Cantrip, how do you think I felt? I didn't even start with a faction.
@tom, is your character some sort of Marilyn Monroe type? Because I am pretty sure that's the only way I will read it after your "big brute" comment lol
@Silver, please don't do what Last did in GoT.
@GF, why do you think people haven't been reading you as towny lately?
Was that Plomb a professor...in the conservatory...with the lead pipe?!?!
Oh my gosh. I know I haven't really been "away" or anything, but after a few (very fast) games elsewhere, this thread really warms my heart. My people!
That said...I'm going to go ahead and tinfoil conspiracy state that something feels weird about Tom and Shadow's interactions so far. Which is weird because I like their posts individually; they're funny and solidly toned, and feel "right", but it also feels a little bit like they're tryharding, maybe forcing interactions? Don't know. Need more, I guess.
Greetings. I'm probably going to be the least funny person here. I don't use to be fun at parties, you know
But since this is not a party as we thought... \vote Cantripmancer
Reason: [insert a not good reason here].
Actually, Mr Cantrip is quite smart, and smart people are dangerous
Probably unvoting later, who knows. I like Cantrip. I actually have no ideia what's going on
UBRGrixis Shard: Grixis believes in a bold and impassioned search for satisfaction, perfection, and self expression. Those of Grixis colors have an eagerness to break the status quo and remake things in their own image. They disregard tradition and conventional approval, seeing them as unnecessary to achieve their goals, the well behaved rarely make history. Blue wants perfection. Black wants power. Red wants freedom.
Didn't forget, but you at least had to work for some of yours. Tom just sorta sat around in the thread until they dropped in his lap.
I object to everything about this except the supple lips it was uttered by.
I can concur because the extent of my work was using my ability on Tom before being the first death.
Anyway hopping over to Lng's question I think it's a few things. One I used to play a different style. I was more humble and flexible. Second I had a great scum game and a couple decent ones and it changed my reputation. Third my recent games just frankly haven't been good. In one I was actively being provocative once I knew I had a town check from KJ but in general I just have been wrong on a ton and it's easy to equate repeated wrongness from a somewhat respected player with scumminess. Like townies can and will be wrong but if prime Iso was wrong multiple times in a row it was a red flag. I don't have that sort of reputation but on a tiny level I'm generally not seen as an idiot despite a now substantial streak of wrongness.
@GF, so do you think you will go back to being humble, given your ... incorrect...ness? Incorrectitude? Or stay with a more braggadocio style? Because I don't think that style is working for you.
@GF, so do you think you will go back to being humble, given your ... incorrect...ness? Incorrectitude? Or stay with a more braggadocio style? Because I don't think that style is working for you.
Definitely trying to walk back the confidence because it's been proven over and over again to be unwarranted but that's easier said than done unfortunately. Changing habits is hard. What also hurts is I like to be intentionally over confident in the early game to spark action but transitioning out of that is difficult. Hard to actively change your meta with a bunch of people who know what to expect from you. Anyway why do you ask about my recent games?
@GF, because I used to townread you quite frequently and... I scumread you pretty hard last game, and you were scumread in DitF. Just trying to wonder why you feel so different than normal. I don't think I've seen you as scum in awhile, but it's probably not alignment-indicative. I was just weirded out by GoT and I'm not quite sure how to read you now.
@Rhand, lol so weird, I was tempted to write "You know why" when I made my vote And hey, that's only an hour and a half from Stuttgart! Cmon, what's an hour and a half between friends? I'll get the first round lol.
For not doing tours in Stuttgart! (Honestly though, trying to convince my wife to road trip to Belgium/Bruges. Anything that would help is much obliged.)

I like this slot, not sure about the GF question though. I still don't think he should have been ynched in GOT, what do I know though i was scum :P.

Breaks Apart the tinfoil
Their interactions seemed genuine so fight me. If it was improvised based on someone mafia chat they fooled me.

*ponders*
Dunking on Cantrip for forgetting I had 5 wins too.
Vote Cantrip
For not doing tours in Stuttgart! (Honestly though, trying to convince my wife to road trip to Belgium/Bruges. Anything that would help is much obliged.)
@Cantrip, how do you think I felt? I didn't even start with a faction.
@tom, is your character some sort of Marilyn Monroe type? Because I am pretty sure that's the only way I will read it after your "big brute" comment lol
@Silver, please don't do what Last did in GoT.
@GF, why do you think people haven't been reading you as towny lately?
Club Flamingo Wins: 1!
@Lng: remind me after Grape answers your question that I want to pick your brain about it.
~~~~~
“Tall Dark And Lupine” I might sig that.
I await your question with a plomb. A big, purple, juicy plomb.
I’m going to bed now, clearly I’m a bit too slap happy. Don’t have too much fun without me.
Before. But it feels like one of those not-tells, to be perfectly honest. (I'll be interested to see if anyone picks up on what I'm dropping down...)
That was short-lived. Are we doing impressions? Oh! Do me next!
Didn't forget, but you at least had to work for some of yours. Tom just sorta sat around in the thread until they dropped in his lap.
Eh, you ended up doing all right for yourself, though.
Oh my gosh. I know I haven't really been "away" or anything, but after a few (very fast) games elsewhere, this thread really warms my heart. My people!
That said...I'm going to go ahead and tinfoil conspiracy state that something feels weird about Tom and Shadow's interactions so far. Which is weird because I like their posts individually; they're funny and solidly toned, and feel "right", but it also feels a little bit like they're tryharding, maybe forcing interactions? Don't know. Need more, I guess.
Unvote for now.
But since this is not a party as we thought... \vote Cantripmancer
Reason: [insert a not good reason here].
Actually, Mr Cantrip is quite smart, and smart people are dangerous
Probably unvoting later, who knows. I like Cantrip. I actually have no ideia what's going on
Best MTG colour test ever: https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/8905d5/what_kind_of_mage_would_you_be_test_your_colors/
UBR Grixis Shard: Grixis believes in a bold and impassioned search for satisfaction, perfection, and self expression. Those of Grixis colors have an eagerness to break the status quo and remake things in their own image. They disregard tradition and conventional approval, seeing them as unnecessary to achieve their goals, the well behaved rarely make history. Blue wants perfection. Black wants power. Red wants freedom.
I can concur because the extent of my work was using my ability on Tom before being the first death.
Anyway hopping over to Lng's question I think it's a few things. One I used to play a different style. I was more humble and flexible. Second I had a great scum game and a couple decent ones and it changed my reputation. Third my recent games just frankly haven't been good. In one I was actively being provocative once I knew I had a town check from KJ but in general I just have been wrong on a ton and it's easy to equate repeated wrongness from a somewhat respected player with scumminess. Like townies can and will be wrong but if prime Iso was wrong multiple times in a row it was a red flag. I don't have that sort of reputation but on a tiny level I'm generally not seen as an idiot despite a now substantial streak of wrongness.
Definitely trying to walk back the confidence because it's been proven over and over again to be unwarranted but that's easier said than done unfortunately. Changing habits is hard. What also hurts is I like to be intentionally over confident in the early game to spark action but transitioning out of that is difficult. Hard to actively change your meta with a bunch of people who know what to expect from you. Anyway why do you ask about my recent games?
You know why
I am in Germany. Wuerzburg tomorrow.
Since it’s too early for finding the culprit, let’s start with the weapon.
Anyone holding the noose?
@Rhand, lol so weird, I was tempted to write "You know why" when I made my vote And hey, that's only an hour and a half from Stuttgart! Cmon, what's an hour and a half between friends? I'll get the first round lol.
Noose? I thought this was a trendy tie...
To be fair the game did just start
You expect to much it seems.
Where was the roleplay, i am confused?
Why are you lieing to me.
Hey Riku, shadow wants to know what you liked about Cantrip entrnace.
@shadowlancerX I got you bro
Not like it matters? He can only RVS 1 more per vote -.-.
I like this slot, not sure about the GF question though. I still don't think he should have been ynched in GOT, what do I know though i was scum :P.
Breaks Apart the tinfoil
Their interactions seemed genuine so fight me. If it was improvised based on someone mafia chat they fooled me.
Vote:Tom Here is your good time.
Here is my take, just be yourself
/end rant
I wanna know why >3>
@Lngr: My next days are Wurzburg - Rothenburg/Schweinfurt - Bamberg - Nuremberg.
If you’re free and willing to drive, shoot me a pm
