I know I’m personally in favor of trying to make things work with the ownership change, all things considered, this is my Mafia home, and as long as it lives, I want to try and make it work.
I do agree that not at least having other plans in the wings would be foolish, so definitely on board for continued conversation or at least keeping things open. No reason to shut doors or burn bridges.
Yeah, the whole "people are looking for interesting setups" was the reason I pushed so hard to get the Specialty Queue reinstated. The FTQ just wasn't producing setups fast enough to meet the demand for specialty level set ups on its own. Of course now we have a problem in that there are a bunch of specialty set ups in the queue and around half of them are unfinished, but one thing at a time.
I do agree we need to at least keep the escape pods ready in case things go south, but if we want to try to ride out the ownership change I'd be willing to do what I can to make it work.
Yeah the issue is that the ques got merged. I think some of the problem is that people are sending in setups that are raw or not setup at all yet, and so we ended up stagnating for like 6+ months with no special game going on.
Originally the point of the FTQ was to fast track exciting games due to how many games were in the specialty que. Eventually they became one and the same as player numbers dwindled.
As to the other matter, I agree with Azreal. I think moving is still the best option since our player numbers are dwindling. We are not gaining players and have not gained players for two years. The team games did not attract players they came they left. It seems rarely seems that we get a new player.
Hell really I don't even care if we just merge with any other server. Doubling our player numbers is attractive. I'm not sure that its the best overall plan(IE long term health) but almost anything seems better than staying to me.
I think I am also in favour of moving on - MTGS might be our home, but I can't see things really improving here if the entire staff and a number of exisiting communities move away. Certainly I would really want to hear from the new owner what any plans they have are to grow the site and what they think about the mafia sub.
Really, it's a case of what the community wants more: to maintain history, identity, and status quo by remaining here, or to essentially become long-game specialists within another community and become part of a larger playerbase (with signficantly more potential players and games). Personally, I think treating this as an opportunity to grow is the better option than hoping MTGS keeps it together - MTGNews didn't after all. But it's a difficult choice for sure.
No idea. There still hasn't been any public announcement about staff turnover or anything from the new owners as far as I'm aware and the old staff is already running MTG Nexus.
We're still kind of in limbo, just continuing to fire games here since Shadow got the okay from the new owners privately.
I have been in communication with the new owners; they are working on some things in the back end and plan to touch base with the users at large soon (from my understanding) regarding their plans. There is optimism about site growth, and continued support of our sub here.
As such, I will go ahead and unsticky this; and should something change we can course correct.
