You’ve been driving for a while now, on this dark, windy, unlit road. Too long, perhaps? Maybe you missed the turnoff. All these forest roads look the same. What’s worse is the sheets of rain that pound your car during the rare break in the thick forest canopy. Your dingy headlights barely light the road a few feet ahead.
“What the hell kind of person throws a dinner party in the middle of the woods on a night like tonight? It’s been storming for weeks!” you think to yourself annoyedly, then chuckle as you realize the answer.
The same type that would attend such a party. You sigh and shake your head.
Just then though, you notice a metallic glint on the right side of the road. You slam your brakes to see what it is, and due to the standing water on the roads, your car skids right past it. You back up slowly, wary of the unpredictable curves in the road. Suddenly, your headlights catch the thing again and you grit your teeth as you’re immediately blinded for a second. When your eyes adjust, your distress turns to delight as you read the sign in front of you.
HILL HOUSE THIS WAY ->
“FINALLY!” you exclaim to no one in particular, and in your excitement, you floor it and turn your wheel hard to the right. Unfortunately, your car slides around impotently on the wet roads for a few seconds before finally catching on some dirt and speeding you off on this new road.
After driving for a bit on this road, something seems… different. Quieter. Creepier. Has the rain stopped? No… the forest canopies are just thicker here. Too thick for rain to get through. Your field of view fills with steam as your breathing quickens slightly. Is it colder here? You shake your head and put it to the back of your mind. You’re just overthinking it.
The relative silence you had grown used to is immediately replaced with a loud cracking sound on the undercarriage of your car. You slow down a bit to investigate the sudden noise… it sounds familiar. Is it gravel? You also make out what sounds like running water. What is that?
One final turn and you get your answer as a large glowing orb begins to manifest at the edge of your vision. It’s atop a steep hill peaking from beneath the blanket of trees. This has to be the place.
As you reach the crest of the hill, you’re greeted by the dull roar of the heavy rain on gravel. You car struggles to find footing on the wet gravel Your engine cries with effort. "Come on girl. You can do this. We're almost there."
As you finally get close enough to see, the mass of light forms into a field of spotlights illuminating a brick wall surrounding a large mansion. Immediately ahead of you on the road is a metal gate with a speaker box. You drive up, ready to push the button on the speaker box and announce yourself when the gate opens as you approach. As you drive past you can barely hear the words coming from it: “We’ve been expecting you. You’re the last to arrive.”
As you continue up the driveway with fervor, you see that the voice spoke true. Eleven other cars are parked here somewhat chaotically. You snake past the other cars, park, grab your umbrella, and quickly make your way up to the door. You note a large ornate lionhead doorknocker carved into the dark wooden door as well as a long, knotted rope cord poking down from above. With a deep breath, you pull the cord.
A baritone gong rings out in the house, and echoes about a mile past it. It’s amazing you can hear it so clearly through the rain. You see the door open and you’re quickly ushered inside by a stocky goblin of a man in a tuxedo. He leads you into a room with a lot of books. There are several people sitting around the room and one standing patiently in the center. He nods at you as you sit down.
“I’m glad you all could make it. Welcome to Hill House, and my dinner party. I am, of course, sorry for the weather. It really couldn’t be helped.”. The man takes a breath. “Anyway, you’ll know my name from the letters you received. I am Mr. Boddy. And before we begin, I’d love it if you all signed the guestbook I have here.” He then walks over to a cabinet and pulls out a large leatherbound red book and places it on the table next to the door. He opens it with a flourish. It's all very ornate, but the gold leaf encircling the pages, in particular, catches your eye. This book looks old enough that that was probably done by hand. Welcome to Hill House Mafia! This is a low complexity, high flavor Mini. It's based a bit on the Clue board game. This is also my first hosted game, so hopefully, I do okay.

KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.

Due to the unfortunate news, this game may not run on this site owing to the deadline lengths and the fact that it isn't very close to full.
We're currently discussing moving this and future games to Mafia Universe (www.mafiauniverse.com) for the time being. Please join us on Discord (https://discord.gg/NHW4AVB) for the latest news and updates since it will ~probably~ be the de facto hub for MTGS Mafia games and announcements when the site closes.
If you have any questions and don't wish to use Discord or need help getting access to the Discord server, you can contact myself or another council member via PM.
Feel free to continue filling the game, it is going to run just... maybe not here. The game host (Killjoy) or a council member will contact you via PM or Discord DM with information on where to find the game and help you make an account on the other site if necessary.
I'm going to make a channel on the Discord server specifically for signing up for this game, so if you make it to the Discord server just jump into the #hill-house-mafia channel and say /in for us.
Thanks for your patience and understanding while we try to get all of this sorted.

Hi. We're playing this one here and will continue to run games here for now. We're still keeping the escape pods ready just in case but the new owners don't mind us being here.
Also I'll be V/LA for like Wednesday/Thursday/Friday next week, going to NY to see Phantom of the Opera on Broadway so hopefully game start isn't one of those days lol.
Ok. Riku is the only one who hasn't gotten back to me expressing continued interest. I'll probably just say if a twelfth person signs up I'll let it run and hopefully not have to replace him.
