@Vaimes that's fair. Can you explain to me the difference as you see it between this and Chris' Shin read (which I seem to recall you agreeing with)?
@LW When they talk about ignoring people you're scum reading I don't think this is what they mean...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Grape, I don't think LW, DV, or LnGR are mafia. Why are KA and KJ so low?
I'm not sure what "this" you're talking about?
My point about the disconnect on DV talking about how he feels better about shin being scum because I disagree with him and I'm bad town, while scum reading me. What did you think I was asking about when you said it was bias?
As for the second post I think clearing LW for volume is a bad idea. He's a high poster as either alignment. LnG I agree isn't mafia. KA and KJ have both just felt off in small amounts. KJ had a DV read early that felt fake and then evaluated DV from nothing when I asked him about him yesterday. Which feels slightly off but not enough for a read. With KA it's way too early for this sort of read but it's a wolfy pop-in's thing. He's commenting on whatever the major current event is and not much else.
Wait, it feels slightly off now? Since you're saying it 'felt' slightly off, then you're referring to when I made it. But even I asked about it, you have a very Neutral response.
KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
@KJ I found it odd that you built your DV read from blank when you'd expressed a strong-ish read earlier. Like I asked you about him and you started from scratch. It isn't necessarily scummy but it's enough that I am going to keep a closer eye on you.
@Re
In terms of tone, Lng feels town. I picked up something from their play in DITF, and so far they’re not doing that. (I’m not going into what that is yet, scientific method and all that.)
Mechanically, Lng is not likely to be scum. Claiming factionless, even with the updated mod post is far too attention grabbing of a play. It holds little value that I can see in terms of a gambit, and gives away more information than scum would normally be inclined to do.
I’m comfortable with a town lean on Lng.
@Last
You mentioned that I hadn’t answered one of your questions. Sorry bout that.
I don’t really know Shin, but from their posts nothing jumps out at me saying scum. However, I get a “more talking, less saying” vibe, and if I ignore what others say about their meta it feels off. Very slight scumlean for now.
I think HR is scum. His last posts triggered me to pull up his iso.
His posts show too much focus on mechanics to my liking, and there's a lot of iioa going on. I’m not sure how to explain this, but when he went for Lngr, it seemed like he wasn’t really trying to convince town that Lngr was scum.
I need to look at where his votes fall on the wagons, because reading them isolated, they feel bandwagony.
Things I liked about HR: His re-evaluation of me, even if it ended up back on me, and the fact that he reviewed my other games
Things I didnt like about HR: his focus on mechanics, his aggression
if that says anything, still leaves me at 50/50 and had this point in time, not someone I would vote at this time. You would really have to convince me
But last and grape both look like they know shin is gonna flip town and if one of them is scum i would take that as stronger evidence than anything about shins posting
I'm reading something with regards to LastWhisper. He's absolutely playing some kind of a game. The question is whether it's hedging on Shinichi being town and saying, "SEE?! I TOLD YOU SO!" or if it's him trying to defend a fellow mafia.
Either way, I'm going to go ahead with Unvote, Vote LastWhisper.
Response to LW # 1091: I liked hunger’s post in #1090. I think it’s hard not to hedge when you don’t know what’s going on. But then again hunger may just be trying to pocket me.
Addendum: and now that I’ve caught up reading I like hunger's posts in general. Just tone I guess.
LW#1104, I disagree about villagers being carefree and not feeling the need to do anything/write walls. As someone who is not reading all the time throughout the day but rather tends to catch up on a bunch of posts at one point, sometimes every couple days, I think it is way more helpful to put your thought into one semi-organized wall rather than just have a million posts of clutter that distract from the real point. Maybe my analysis isn’t very good, but I’m trying. Also as a reader, it’s so difficult trying to get through your million and one posts with a fair amount of bickering and in certain posts little to no content. I think you’re someone who decided that your scum game is more important to you than your town game, so you try to play erratically, contradict yourself, and pick fights regardless of position because it’s something that’s easily replicated when you’re scum and you can point to your town games and say, ‘look, I always play this way, any catch is not actually a catch.’ You add clutter because you can hide in it, but as a town you shouldn’t be hiding and you have no reason to except to make yourself a more difficult to read player when you’re scum.
Lol, LW just read #1183. That’s exactly your job. Also, you tell people not to disrespect your mafia ability #1185 but you’ve straight up disrespected a lot of other people. Treat others, ya know? I don’t know much in this game, but I’d be willing to bet the game that “I told you so” is something you would and have said before.
@Rhand, you’re killing me with all these questions. I haven’t been noting any specific posts, but in general I notice that you love asking leading questions without really contributing your own reads. To me, that’s a scummy move. Like there was one post where you were like ‘if we kill shin and he flips town, does that mean wisp is automatically scum?’ Not sure if you were trying to set him up to be the next lynch without looking like you ever pushed him because you have insider knowledge/know shin will flip town. In any case, instead of saying #1110, how about telling us what you think wisps defense of shin says about their alignment.
I’m flipping back and forth on Tom. Think he’s definitely playing for an alt win condition, but his read on Chris and Chris’s lack of movement is interesting and seems town.
I don’t at all care about Death in the Family. I skimmed all of Chris’s explanation so hopefully it’s not too relevant.
@RE #1156. I know you all think mechanical aspect is scummy for some reason, but as I mentioned earlier I prefer to read people, not writing. Body language and microexpressions are a lot more difficult to control than typing that is not even occurring in real time. I don’t have that much to provide with analyzing players when you all are bringing up meta—never going to read old games. So much time for so little gain. Thinking about mechanics is something I can do (though perhaps not well).
Like grapefruit’s logic #1211. But trusting what he said is accurate even if his interpretation is not right. Not as strong of a scum lean. Mainly a reactionary vote—but you all wouldn’t understand that? Not a single hair trigger in the bunch here. Agree with high roller that his faction/role stuff seems weird #1236
Unvote
Agree with Vaimes that Chris doesn’t come off as particularly town #1218, but can see that he will likely be night killed by scum if he’s town so no point in analyzing much until after a couple of days if he survives.
I mainly just wanted to test cooperation. Could easily be done with two trusted town throne nominees and splitting the vote to tie + 1 random vote. But oh no, mechanics is evil? What’s interesting to me is RE has seemed uber focused on me right from the start. Like other people’s reads on me have naturally evolved and have seemed to be responsive but she seemed to be looking for any excuse right out of the gate. Seems very mission oriented.
Sorry. This work project has unfurled like a kraken, and practically every spare waking moment I have, I'm working on it. So every time I catch up one page in this thread, I find another two have been created. I *WILL* catch up in the next two days, or I'll ask to replace out, as I really don't want to be that guy.
Do you think my reasoning against you has been unfair? If so, why?
Do you think you are the only person I have been "uber focused" on? I'd argue Grape and Last have taken up much more of my attention.
While your posting, until more recently, was not too different from those on the lower end of the post counts - you garnered a large number of townreads for something that struck me as NAI. This could suggest scum wanting to seal one of their own in the towncore.
You also haven't answered my questions regarding information that could be gained from scum framing another player, if we found that out by mislynching them. I think mechanical speculation and planning is scummy if it's not accompanied by behavioral analysis. But I also think it's scummy if it's not planned out - you've claimed that it could give us information multiple times, but I'm missing how exactly that happens. If your plan is real, regardless of whether or not it will work, you should have an idea of how it can help. Say someone is elected for the Iron Throne, despite us publicly agreeing to your plan. What does that tell us? How would we figure out if that player is scum, or if that player has been framed?
(Also, sorry if I missed it - but have you found out how ties are settled?)
I agree with you on Rhand.
HR's FoS on Grape, unless I missed something from earlier, is purely mechanical based on that post. Grape also hasn't full-claimed, so there is room for a plausible explanation.
Why would HR voting Last over Grape be unreasonable?
Just under a week left and a simple reminder we don't have to use the whole time...
This is literally the towniest post tom has ever made in a game of mafia.
Really?
It seems... Easily fakeable? Or NAI? I don't see how it's alignment indicative. Are you calling tom town, or are you just saying his post is townie? This doesn't strike me as a read, for some reason.
All votes and unvotes must be bolded to count. (And color is helpful but not necessary)
Sir Chris through May 9th
A reminder about Iron Throne support: All support must be done via PM (either MTGS or discord), and can be changed as many times as you wish up until twilight is announced.
@RE: Town should be pushing for the day to end and for people to lock in stances.
Why are you not voting anyone?
Because up until recently I was strongly scumreading Wisp. Then he used a bout of nasty AtE, if he was scum.
Now I'm struggling between two worlds. One where there is scum in the leading wagons, one where there isn't. Where I direct my attention strongly depends on this, because if there isn't, then it's important to hit in the coasters. Would rather not lose an active voice when so many are quiet.
I need to look at where his votes fall on the wagons, because reading them isolated, they feel bandwagony.
Umm... Hey Rhand? How can something feel bandwagony in isolation? Isn't the whole idea of a bandwagon that the votes are made in response to someone having other votes made on them? So how can you have an isolated bandwagon? Isn't that an oxymoron?
I'd vote Rhand if it weren't for this post. I'd also might have voted earlier but I was on mobile and couldn't access the hex color code I've been using for my votes, but now I'm more uncertain.
This one feels honest though. I also took it to mean that by "isolated," he literally meant he looked through Highroller's ISO and without checking the placement of his votes on any one wagon.
I'll try to come to a decision tonight.
This is a plan that I'd be willing to consider getting behind unlike the original one. Still lacks an enforcement mechanism but trying to get two people we trust on the throne seems valuable. I'd push for Vaimes and HR as our two options at this stage. Rod would be third but as a we're aware his ability is a day ability and a threat I'm less inclined to put him on the throne.
@Tom why am I scum? I agree my wagon looks not scummy at this stage but I don't know why anyone still (intentionally on it is voting me. I guess LnG is OMGUS but idk on Vaimes.
Not read to vote Rhand at this stage. This last grouping of posts looks bad but I can see a specific way it comes from town. Curious to see how he replies.
I'm not feeling a lot of movement. Why's that? Question directed to everyone.
Well I thought I'd spark some movement yesterday but my DV push was barely a blip. And I expect it's because there hasn't been a ton of fresh posting from people among the low posters. 1053 came in and felt townish still. Rhand had some questionable posts. I dunno. I'm waiting for more or for people (other than tom) to explain why DV's thing isn't a slip.
these 3 trains have existed since the start of the game, and we only have a bunch of 1's to counter-act them
It's not complacency. It's a disparity in large magnitude between the high and low posters.
RE is less of disparity since she just unvoted recently, and GJ is still catching up I hope
The choices are continue trying to murder each other and look complacent or wait for them to do things. Or I guess try to murder them instead and bet on random odds but that's boring.
I'm not feeling a lot of movement. Why's that? Question directed to everyone.
This usually suggests scum are happy with where the votes are. So either they've settled on bussing one (or more) of their buddies, or the main wagons are town and there's no need for them to disturb that.
On occasion, this may not be the case - sometimes inactivity is just inactivity. I'm interested in how Shinichi will react when coming back, since we are 100% getting a lynch today, and he is leading. I don't know if I'd encourage claiming when L-0 is still far away - but we need something to "stir the pot."
Now I'm struggling between two worlds. One where there is scum in the leading wagons, one where there isn't. Where I direct my attention strongly depends on this, because if there isn't, then it's important to hit in the coasters. Would rather not lose an active voice when so many are quiet.
This post actually sounds pretty towny.
Club Flamingo Wins: 1!
This one feels honest though. I also took it to mean that by "isolated," he literally meant he looked through Highroller's ISO and without checking the placement of his votes on any one wagon.
I'll try to come to a decision tonight.
This is a plan that I'd be willing to consider getting behind unlike the original one. Still lacks an enforcement mechanism but trying to get two people we trust on the throne seems valuable. I'd push for Vaimes and HR as our two options at this stage. Rod would be third but as a we're aware his ability is a day ability and a threat I'm less inclined to put him on the throne.
@Tom why am I scum? I agree my wagon looks not scummy at this stage but I don't know why anyone still (intentionally on it is voting me. I guess LnG is OMGUS but idk on Vaimes.
Not read to vote Rhand at this stage. This last grouping of posts looks bad but I can see a specific way it comes from town. Curious to see how he replies.
Well I thought I'd spark some movement yesterday but my DV push was barely a blip. And I expect it's because there hasn't been a ton of fresh posting from people among the low posters. 1053 came in and felt townish still. Rhand had some questionable posts. I dunno. I'm waiting for more or for people (other than tom) to explain why DV's thing isn't a slip.
Imagine accidentally No Lynching because half of the game decided to literally never place a vote.
(Today ended up being non-stop busy so I didn't really get a chance to sit and respond to stuff. Tomorrow for sure.)
these 3 trains have existed since the start of the game, and we only have a bunch of 1's to counter-act them
complacency is going to be the death of us, it has been foretold
Regarding D_V/Grape, I haven't been following that argument. It was kind of convoluted, sorry. I'll try to get to the beginning of it.
It's not complacency. It's a disparity in large magnitude between the high and low posters.
RE is less of disparity since she just unvoted recently, and GJ is still catching up I hope
The choices are continue trying to murder each other and look complacent or wait for them to do things. Or I guess try to murder them instead and bet on random odds but that's boring.
This usually suggests scum are happy with where the votes are. So either they've settled on bussing one (or more) of their buddies, or the main wagons are town and there's no need for them to disturb that.
On occasion, this may not be the case - sometimes inactivity is just inactivity. I'm interested in how Shinichi will react when coming back, since we are 100% getting a lynch today, and he is leading. I don't know if I'd encourage claiming when L-0 is still far away - but we need something to "stir the pot."
I’ll catch up tomorrow, this week (read: life) has been hectic.
So
v/la til Sunday
I thought I'd been busy all week.
Guess it's not that hard when you don't wall much
Maybe some low poster
