TOWN Midnight Desperado - As a night action, you may try to kill another target player. If that player is town, you die instead.
SCUM Claim Vigilante - As a night action, you may try to kill another target player. You succeed if you correctly state that player's role.
TOWN Alignment Cop - As a night action, you may attempt to learn another target player's alignment.
SCUM Nymphomaniac - As a night action, another target player becomes a lover with you. (If either of you would die, you both die.)
TOWN Miller - If a player checks your alignment, you show up as Scum.
SCUM Framer - As a night action, you may target another player. If a player checks your target's alignment, your target shows up as Scum.
TOWN Apportioner - As a night action, you may target another player. If that player would be killed that night, they die at the end of the next day phase instead.
SCUM Rolecop - As a night action, you may attempt to learn another target player's role name.
TOWN Bodyguard - As a night action, you may target another player. If that player would be killed that night, you die instead.
SCUM Godfather - If a player checks your alignment, you show up as Town.
Perfect Rolestopper - As a night action, you may target another player. Any other actions that would target that player that Night is prevented.
Ascetic - As a night action, you may make it so any nonkilling action that targets you this Night is prevented.
Oracleizer - As a Night action, you may target another player. That player gets the answer to one setup question of your choice. The question must be answerable based solely on knowledge prior to the randomization of roles.
#0: I am the host and I reserve the rights to change these rules.
I am the final arbiter of role interactions and game rule infringements. I will never lie or intentionally mislead you. If you have a problem with a ruling I make, please shelve it until after the game. To the best of my and my reviewers' knowledge, this is not a bastard game.
#1: Follow the spirit of these rules in addition to the letter.
These rules direct the actions of human beings and are enforced by human beings. I am lenient in many a case, as I know that human beings are fallible and that players often don't read the rules. That said, I do not like to have to warn the same player for the same rule multiple times.
If you try to cheat the game or the game rules in any manner, usually it will be discovered. As of the writing of this rule, I only have one offense for which I would blacklist a player, and my blacklist contains zero players. That offense is intentionally and knowingly cheating. If I catch you intentionally and knowingly cheating, not only will you be immediately modkilled, not only will I not allow you in any games I run in the future, but I will do everything in my power to ensure that you do not participate in any other games on this site or in any other community in which I play Mafia.
If you believe that you have found a mistake or loophole in these rules, please discuss it with me before posting.
#2: Have fun, be respectful towards the other players and follow the normal forum rules. This is a game, which we're playing for fun. Expect a low tolerance for toxicity.
You are responsible for following all forum and subforum rules and guidelines. Forum-wide rules are available here. Mafia subforum rules are available here. Additional subforum rules are here:
-Game Limit-
Players may participate in only three games at any given time. An exception to this rule can be made by moderators in need of a replacement for a game, if no other replacement can be found.
-Suicide-
If you no longer wish to participate in a game for any reason, contact the moderator. Do NOT attempt to force the moderator to modkill you.
-Current Game Discussion-
A player in an ongoing game may not discuss that game with any other player in that game, or in public forums. Also, it is a good idea to ask permission before discussing the game with anyone outside the game, because they can no longer replace into the game once any meaningful discussion takes place.
-Cryptoclaims-
Unless explicitly authorized by the game moderator in their opening rules section, cryptoclaims are forbidden.
-Out-of-game Promises-
Players may not use out-of-game promises (example: I swear on my grandmother's life, I bet you my entire collection of magic cards, etc.) in an effort to influence other players.
-Multiple Players On One Account
"Hydra" accounts - multiple people playing and posting as one player with shared access to the "gimmick" account, are not allowed unless they have prior approval from the specific game Moderator. Please do not do this on your own.
-Traitor/Alignment Switching Roles
Game moderators are strongly encouraged to be extraordinarily careful if they seek to include a traitor role in their designs. These roles are notorious for causing games to implode, for creating fairness concerns, and for the challenge they pose to the town's behavioral analysis. (See Discussion in Council Thread, Post 3351, onwards.)
Mafia is a game, we’re here to have fun. Please be respectful of your fellow players. Sometimes emotions run high and we get caught up in the moment. That is not an excuse for flaming or poor sportsmanship.
Flaming is a hostile verbal attack directed at another person or group of people. Trolling is the act of deliberately provoking a hostile reaction from other users. These actions will not be tolerated. Additionally, harassing and flaming someone via PMs may trigger more severe offenses, up to and including a suspension.
We do not recognize excuses such as "he flamed me first!"; if you feel attacked by other members, report the post and let moderators handle it rather than flame back. Similarly, if you feel that someone is trolling, just report the post/thread. Calling someone a troll also amounts to flaming/trolling.
The rule of thumb is to criticize the idea, not the person. You may think a deck is bad, and you may say so (though make it constructive), but a deck being bad doesn't make the poster an idiot. Be respectful.
Responding to other people with unwarranted hostility, picking fights and in general being a jerk to other members is also grounds for moderation. Remember, it is everyone's job to be friendly and civilized, and maintain other users' good forum experience. We want people to get along.
Even though Mafia involves attacking other players, flaming is still not allowed. Please refrain from personal insults, especially personal insults coupled with profanity. Attacking another user's play (e.g. "That was an incredibly stupid vote") is acceptable.
Also, remember that image leeching is not allowed on MTGSalvation.
Image leeching is hot linking to an image (using [img] tags) that is NOT hosted on:
MTGSalvation.com (including anything starting media-dominaria.cursecdn.com)
MagicCards.info
Your own webhosting
An image uploading site like Facebook, ImageShack.us or Photobucket.com
A site that has given you express permission to hotlink
We HIGHLY suggest that all Rumor Mill posts attach images to the posts using the forums' own software. We have had cases in the past where WoTC's website was down and images were unavailable, and where Photobucket/personal image sites removed high traffic images.
If you are unsure whether a site is considered a photo hosting website, the best thing to do is upload them to MTG Salvation or your own photo hosting website account. Alternatively, you can ask a moderator.
While profanity itself is not against the forum rules, and you are free to include profanity in your posts as appropriate, certain words are automatically censored by forum software. Do not attempt to evade the censor. Self-censoring, any attempt to 'cheat' a word past the censor, or attempting to clarify what a censored word is, are all considered censor evasion. If you're going to swear, just swear.
While I don't care about cursing, I will report, replace, and/or modkill you for derogatory content, in particular, slurs, in relation to another user or person, at my own reasonable discretion.
#3: Keep the out-of-game separate from the in-game. This is a modkillable offense.
DO NOT talk about this game outside of this thread and quicktopic links or PMs given to you in your role PM or approved by me. Please ensure I am copied in on any out-of-game messages sent to other players.
DO NOT directly quote or screenshot your role PM or any private communications (QuickTopics, etc.) when posting in the main game thread. This includes mason chats and scum chats. Please paraphrase - if you are in doubt, ask me before posting!
DO NOT bring up rule-breaking in thread. If you feel that someone is breaking the rules, bring it up with the mod only.
When generating (or faking, as applicable) reads, DO NOT use angleshooting or out of game knowledge, to the best of your ability. This means do not use the timing, reasons, or order of substitutions and modkills to influence others, do not use the timing or phrasing of role PMs to influence others, do not make alignment bets with out of game consequences, and do not use “trust tells” or similar. This list is not exhaustive.
#4: By confirming that you have received your Role PM you also confirm that you have read it.
Not reading your Role PM is a form of cheating. I consider there to only be one, lifetime alert for this. If I know that a player knows that they must read their role PM, this rule will be enforced with great prejudice.
#5: DO NOT edit, delete, or thank posts. Even if it’s an accidental double post. This is a modkillable offense.
#6: No funny business. DO NOT use invisible text, cryptography, tiny writing, hidden messages, acronym/alphabet claims, or similar. DO NOT post after you are dead. DO NOT post if you are not a player. This is a modkillable offense.
#7: Post game-related content at least once every 48 hours. LET'S MAKE THIS A REPLACEMENT-FREE GAME, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.
If you have not posted in 48 hours, you will be prodded. Failing to respond to the prod within 48 hours will lead to your replacement or modkill. Content is, of course, subjective, but “Posting to avoid prod,” “catching up,” or similar short not-really-game-related posts are obviously not content. If you need to be absent for an extended period of time please post “V/LA until [Date]” in bold on its own line in the thread so that I and the other players know when you’ll be back. You do not need to explain your reasons for being absent in thread. If you will be gone for more than four or five days you should consider requesting replacement.
#8: Do not spam the thread.
While I will not enforce a strict posting maximum, site rules include a limit of three posts in a row. The site moderators will enforce this, not me. While I may attempt to waive the posting restriction under certain circumstances by talking to said moderators, if I myself feel that you're posting too much in a row (more than five posts in a row for any reason is generally excessive), action may be taken ranging from a warning to eventual replacement/modkill. That said, I do not usually consider simple edits by way of double posting in this context, unless it is egregious.
#9: I make no promises about public answers to any question. If you have a question about your role or a rules interaction, please communicate with me privately.
I will be particularly unlikely to answer questions posed to me in the game thread other than questions about vote counts or deadlines. If you raise a question in a private message that needs addressing to the entire game (regarding a special rule or similar), I will respond as I feel is appropriate.
#10: Once a lynch is reached, votes are considered locked in. Votes and unvotes made after that will not be counted. (This is known as the Twilight phase.)
#11: If deadline is reached and no player fulfills the requirements to be lynched, the day ends with no lynch.
#12: Make your votes clear to the mod. BOLD your votes and place them on a separate line.
Unbolded votes may not be counted, nor votes in the middle of a huge wall of text. Unvoting is helpful but is not required.
#13: Scum players may submit actions for other scum players if the other scum player has not submitted an action. However, if the other player ever submits an action, their fellow scum cannot change what that player submitted.
#14: DO NOT POST IN THE THREAD DURING THE NIGHT PHASE, UNLESS YOUR ROLE SAYS OTHERWISE.
TL;DR: Be excellent to each other, don't be inactive, ask me questions in private when possible, don’t edit or delete posts, no funny business involving cryptography, etc. and... have fun, that’s the whole point.
Game-Specific Rules:
Each player gets a 1-shot token of their role, scum share a pool of their tokens.
Factional Kill.
Day phases are 12 IRL days long.
Night phases are 2 IRL days long.
Scum have daychat and learn the unused role for falseclaiming purposes.
There is no Nighttalk.
This game follows a majority lynch system.
Town wins when they eliminate Scum.
Scum wins when they eliminate Town or when that cannot be prevented (i.e. They control the lynch.)
The Ascetic has priority over the Perfect Rolestopper.
The Bodyguard and Apportioner do not prevent the Lover death from the Nymphomaniac.
All information given by the Oracleizer will be information that is already known to the players.
KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
For the players who don't know who I am or vaguely recognise me, I'm ScarletCelestial otherwise called Scarlet. I play mainly on MU and MAL, though I have played a few games elsewhere including Team Mafia here (which is vague recollection bit).
It usually takes me a while to get going, so expect me to ask a lot of questions day 1 where you start questioning my intelligence, but it usually has a pay off later on. It's just my style. I start coming up with my better thoughts in the back end of Day 1 or the start of Day 2 when I've got deaths to work with. My scum game is probably one of the most obvious scum games in existence (aka I have a vast tonal gap) where I end up helping Town more than scum sometimes. If anybody wants a link to my most recent, then I can provide it, but it likely won't be applicable due to the differences between sites. (Wisp can also explain my game differences since he has seen me as both Town and scum.)
I'll tend to check the thread once or twice a day and just catch up and do anything I need in that timeframe.
I also have some thoughts on the setup that I'd rather not discuss right now since I feel as if it could end up helping the Mafia in what they shouldn't be saying. And of course I want the Mafia to do something stupid, so I better leave it.
And finally...
why you playing Mafia?

1. Do not claim your roles yet
2. Mafia flips will not show their role, because they share each other's tokens
3. Might have to confirm with Osie but I believe that also means if one mafia dies before either token is used, the remaining mafia has access to both tokens
4. and before ***** happens again like last time, each role can be mafia, just the first 5 have a separate role for which alignment you are, while the last 3 can be scum or town
5. Mafia know the extra role, and with that, they already know all the roles that exist in this game, and it also gives them a fake claim
Debating if the miller should claim now rather than later (if it exists), but the combination of framer/miller and desperado/claim-vig is scary and will probably lead to too much wifom
Killjoy is already at L2 interesting

with no information as of yet to move my leans around, I would say Riku or Tom should die today as of right now, because Tom is hard to evaluate, and Riku will just be wine for the town even tho I find it relatively easy to read him...
Would you all believe it's possible that I can see the future and lynch the scum once I know who they are?
If it is, do you think that that's cheating? Why or why not
I take a very dim view of "Tom should die because he's hard to read"
and are you calling Riku lynchbait? If you can confidently townread him then why do you care just make everyone see it
Would you all believe it's possible that I can see the future and lynch the scum once I know who they are?
If it is, do you think that that's cheating? Why or why not
interesting question, if you were to remove the line, "once I know who they are", I would have thought you were just mafia...
If outside of the mechanics of the game, the player's posts, and etc... you could identify the mafia due to unforeseen powers, then yes, I would say its cheating...
What if like sometimes I catch glimpses of the future and sometimes those glimpses of the future happen to out a wolf? Should I finish the game and Lynch the wolf and just treat it like any other read or am I obligated to sub out for game health
Like is it qualitatively different to reading based on posts?
I take a very dim view of "Tom should die because he's hard to read"
and are you calling Riku lynchbait? If you can confidently townread him then why do you care just make everyone see it
its doubtful that as new information comes in, my thoughts will still be stagnant on that idea of lynching either of them because of my inability to read them or in Riku's case, being able to thoughtfully explain why I believe he is of one alignment or the other
The fact that I can easily read Riku from the multitude of games I played with him, doesn't mean I can get others to believe the same, especially since its a hard meta read
At any rate I wish I remembered who your partner was in my dream last whisper but I was too caught up on feeling betrayed that you invited me here and rolled wolf. What kind of terrible person invites someone to a game and rolls wolf?
It's very discourteous and I'm sure Mr. Rogers is sad at your failure to be the best you that you can be
Doing fine. Currently trying to finish the Anime Watching Challenge on MAL before the end of the month which is... probably not my best/healthiest idea. Just turned 18 last week and got a waffle maker so a bit obsessed with waffles right now. Though the ones I made last night weren't what is known as 'good'...
To Wisp:
Concerning #4 of the notes section, I don't exactly get what you're trying to say? Are you referring to something from a prior game here?
To Rad (RadiantCowbells):
If you could see the future I'd be telling you to spill, compare how valid you seem against the person you're accusing and be using it to create a narrowed PoE for Day 1 which doesn't usually happen. Technically, if the future could be told then you'd also likely know of the setup and surrounding stuff as well, which I think would be breaking some sort of rule, but it could also not be proven that you were collaborating with anyone or looked at information beforehand so it's a bit of a grey area. Finally, if you could see the future I think it would just suck all the fun out of solving so I'd be questioning why the player would be playing Mafia in the first place, unless they knew they would be Mafia and be able to try and deceive people. I may have overthought this paragraph even though I was writing and thinking at the exact same time.
Concerning what you said of Wisp, I'm just seeing it as something he would say as either alignment. Sounds somewhat stupid and utterly scummy, but he has these moments.

Like is it qualitatively different to reading based on posts?
I would say its exponentially different than from reading off posts because this information isnt accessible through mechanics of the game... But I guess in a way it doesn't hurt the game if nobody knows? and even if you knew someone was scum based on that knowledge, you would still need to make a case on him, that doesn't revolve around the fact that you saw that he was scum by looking into the future

a very terrible person indeed, but you must be refering to someone else, or you are misremembering this dream, because I luckily did not role mafia
Tom
you definitely aren't the epitome of someone who projects town very well, so I would say that gif does suit you, but also neither am I, but I will solve this game
so, i've got a question for ya.
do you think even the worst person can change...?
that everyone can be a good person, if they just try?
heh heh heh heh...
all right.
well, here's a better question.
do you wanna have a bad time?
Scarlet
Yes, in the original token mafia, people kept assuming the bottom 3 roles were automatically town
Tom
are you scum?
1. Did not notice people posted before I managed to post my last one which is very annoying.
2. That does sound kinda stupid Wisp... I interpreted it as if, for instance, the Cop/Nymphomaniac one was around, then it would only be one of them. One of the token slots is not there at all, so it's possible there is neither a Framer/Miller for instance.
3. I'm reading Tom's GIF as deadpan sarcasm, let me know if that's actually a claim in disguise
4. That very 180 switch by Rad seems to me more of a reaction test than anything by how it felt out of nowhere, if I'm wrong please give reasoning Rad.

Concerning what you said of Wisp, I'm just seeing it as something he would say as either alignment. Sounds somewhat stupid and utterly scummy, but he has these moments.
Yes, in the original token mafia, people kept assuming the bottom 3 roles were automatically town
Tom
are you scum?
Tom
you definitely aren't the epitome of someone who projects town very well, so I would say that gif does suit you, but also neither am I, but I will solve this game

Interested in your reasoning on me, also that dream BS isn't gonna fly
Fake red peaks aren't a thing here, like they are on MU
do you think even the worst person can change...?
that everyone can be a good person, if they just try?
heh heh heh heh...
all right.
well, here's a better question.
do you wanna have a bad time?
Yes I believe people can change
Are you trying to intimidate me? Cause you are barking up the wrong tree lol
...I don't think your parakeet is a very reliable source of information, lol.
In the words of Osie tell your parakeet to "git gud"
And I have no friends in mafia games
So no experience and the parakeet is a fake psychic. Could be worse.
1. Is that 180 a reaction test?
2. If not, what made you magically scumread me when I had two posts and the only comments on me came from yourself and Wisp?
I'm just going to assume that 180 was Townie due it coming so out of nowhere and felt like a change in tactic.
Wisp: Scarlet looks Townie so far
Wisp: Radiant looks OK so far
Also Wisp: I had a world where they were both scum but it's falling to pieces already
