If you're asking who is Amelie Jeunet, good question, because I have never heard of her before receiving my role PM, and a google search turned up with nothing. Could this be Grapefruit21's way of throwing off any mass flavor claiming breaking the game? If so, tip of the hat to him for Highroller-proofing the game.
I'm actually going to try something here. Vote: Grapefruit21.
huh
you know, i just assumed that was vaimes asking if we had anyone in the game that went by her/she, rather than this being a flavor thing
because i paid literally zero attention to my flavor upon receiving it beyond seeing my role
There have been a few cases where I had strong townreads on page one. Some people you play with so often that it's pure instinct, sometimes a new person makes a comment that makes no sense coming from scum.
By everyone's silence, I am assuming no one here can launder money?
@Rhand, Germany is beautiful. Though after 2 years, I am all castled-out.
For funsies, who here thinks they have the most complex role?
I would advise that this shut down. I don't believe this game has as much power as you think it does.
Power =/= complexity, necessarily.
Depends how much power you think each side has. The Gold would make you think everyone has abilities, but this doesn't feel like a progressive conversation, and you should know why =/

No one has to answer if they don't feel like it.
My role isn't spectacularly complex. Not sure on power just yet.
@Highroller, I know I you are a fan of flavor gaming. Assuming that has no bearing here, how do you scumhunt?
Vote: Gentleman Johnny because his name sounds like an off brand Walmart style James Bond.
So uhm... any way to donate coins in this game? I feel like with a high complexity they will be used for something more than that, and assuming I have/get coins, I feel like I am probably not good enough to effectively use those anyways.
Glad to be playing with all of you. Wish me luck that I won't suck. Unless you are scum of course. Then I guess you can wish that I will suck, but still, that won't be very nice of you. Tut tut.
I am a history teacher.
Gentleman Johnny is the nickname of a general in the Brittish Army, John Burgoyne, but for his love of plays and finer things in class, got said nickname. My true name also happens to be John, so it felt like a good fit.

1) Not British... so not technically my history. Though I am from Boston, so we share some important history!
Hmm, Ruma May be town, which is annoying because lynching him makes me happy.
why?
to the first bit, not the second
i can relate to enjoying lynching people
He’s actually playing the game/present in the thread. Ruma is one where I’ve been pretty good about nailing as scum, and he’s definitely showing his town glimmers here.
@Shadow: Assuming you have a 1-shot alignment cop, who would you use it on?
I was gonna say “Tom, duh” but I actually think I’ll get there on him. So probably Az.Dear Lingerer, I know for a fact that this game has vanillas, so echoing GJ here, probably best to drop the conversation.
Do you think it’s possible he just thought it was Role madness?
Sure, but even if he did, asking "who thinks they have the most complicated role" is still fishing, and bad. And I'm pretty sure he knows better, eh? Like, the first attempt ("any way to donate coins in this game") I could have seen as somewhat innocent, pro-town. But this isn't.
But you feel like it was more likely an innocent mistake, eh?

Not really sure, just wanted your take. I’m not overly fond of the fishing, but I am not ready to say it’s malicious.
No lie, it is somewhat fishing. I am looking at my stuff and wondering where the "high complexity" is.
I think role madness implies high complexity, but not vice versa. (You can have a high complexity game with normal-ish roles, but it would have to have game specific rules to make complexity.)
If burner phones are the only thing, I will feel quite sad. Especially since it takes a good deal of skill to use it well (who to target, when, what to say, when to reveal, etc).
If there was an ability that worked on coins, and we could give them away, I think that would be better for town than random messages in the night.
Anyways, if people don't want to share, no concern. It will all come out in the wash eventually.
@Cantrip, what was the intent behind your "But you felt it was more likely an innocent mistake, eh?" comment to Shadow? Is that a question, or implication? The wording is weirding me out.
To expand, it reads as forced nonchalance when I’d expect a more appropriate response to 3 people now saying to stop fishing to be “oh crap, shutting up”. But Lingerer is just trying to play it off like nothing.
No lie, it is somewhat fishing. I am looking at my stuff and wondering where the "high complexity" is.
Why is your curiosity of greater importance than keeping town power roles safe/secret, eh?

I actually *like* that they take skill to use well. That's one of the things that drew me to the game.

Mostly agree, which is why I wasn't as concerned with your initial idea floating. It quite possibly came from town. But then you followed it up with a much more damaging question.

It was both!
Your response has failed to sway me to change my vote. Actually makes me sad because I was looking forward to playing with you, but I think it's highly likely you're scum.
@Highroller: Normally when someone would vote a player outside the game and/or the mod and/or something silly like "Vote: Elvis Presley" (when no player named "Elvis Presley" is in the game), they'd catch a lot of flak for it. I suspect you are not in part because you've so frequently engaged in flavor gaming, so players feel like you are on a bit of a learning curve and aren't just voting you (or maybe I'm just projecting, because that's the main reason I'm not suspecting you for it). It used to be a bit more of a common "wild and crazy thing" to make games where the mod could be voted, but that's not so much the case anymore. (I mean, if you want to wait for a vote count and see what happens, go for it, but I'm doubtful that your vote will show up in the vote count.)
@GentlemanJ: You need a short hand name for...me? Cantrip works. What do you think the chances are that Shadow is LnGrrrR's buddy if LnGrrrR is scum?
EWP: @Shadow: Actually, I don't feel like LnG would generally be an "oh crap, shutting up" kind of player. Pretty calm/level-headed, if I'm remembering correctly.
*shrug* I tend to draw heat early in every game I'm in, I guess no point stopping that trend now.
I don’t really recall you drawing heat in our past games together.
Check Haiku mafia (where I went from like 3 town reads to being a wagon because... I don't know still). And I can't remember which game it was, but there was another game where I asked about mechanics and drew a lot of heat, which I didn't think was fair and blew up a bit. I'll try to find it. It might not have been early game though. My memory sucks. I'll look.
@Cantrip: Not that specific wording maybe, but the general mood he gave is just way off to what I think a real response would be, it reads like a fake response.
@Lng: The other game I can think of with you was low fantasy. I’ll check haiku.
I trust that townies are smart enough to not reveal their power role if they have them. I didn't expect something like, "OH HEY I'M A COP BUT ONLY TO PEOPLE I MESSAGE!"
I wasn't getting any firm reads in the first page or so, at least getting people on my wagon will help me with interactions. Of the three (Shadow, Cantrip, GentleJ), I am most suspicious of Johnny, but if anything, just vibes, nothing I can put a finger on yet.

Point me to why you are suspicious of GJ, because I am pretty solidly town on him.

You aren't thinking. Yes, I would agree that most people wouldn't go and see your point and go: "Ooh, I am just a doctor." But what they could do is claim abilities that might kill off people hunting them even if they are wolves. In addition, I don't really see a town reason to that level of posting. If it's town motivated, you are clearly just flavor gaming with a theory that wolves or town have more complex abilities. Or, it's a fishing post that is itended to look like a ***** post.
Either way, my gut instinct wants to call it TWTBW, because of how blatant that attempt looks either way. I just really need more people hunting. MU, you'd be drawn and quartered already.
@Cantrip I meant for LnGrrr. Name is weird. Might just call him Grrrrr
Cantripmancer, you've put me in a Quandry: I find it difficult to believe that you truly believe that LnGrrR's obvious fishing correlates that strongly with scum. Is this something you've seen hold true before?
LnGrrR: If you expect to get heat early in the game, why would you intive it by fishing? What about answers to your question made them more valuable to you than tempting fate?
I trust that townies are smart enough to not reveal their power role if they have them. I didn't expect something like, "OH HEY I'M A COP BUT ONLY TO PEOPLE I MESSAGE!"
...like...what? You asked players to self-identify IF THEY THOUGHT THEIR ROLE WAS THE MOST COMPLEX. In general, if I asked that question, I would expect to get three kinds of answers: 1) "why are you fishing", 2) "Oh, mine is sorta complex" and "..." (no answer). Those with no answers would generally be either VT (who obv don't see their role as complex) or smart PR town. In almost every situation where any town responds with anything other than "why are you fishing", scum gain insight into who's more likely to be power roles and thus better kill targets. Of additional note, you prefaced the question with "for funsies", trying to pass it as an innocent icebreaker. But this is not what town should be doing during D1 and you should know this.
@GJ: I don't understand what you're saying with this:
Quote from Gentleman Johnny »
But what they could do is claim abilities that might kill off people hunting them even if they are wolves.
Can you elaborate (specifically on the "even if they are wolves" part)?
Cantripmancer, you've put me in a Quandry: I find it difficult to believe that you truly believe that LnGrrR's obvious fishing correlates that strongly with scum. Is this something you've seen hold true before?
Not that I remember. I feel like LnGrrrR got caught up in the generally jovial and playful tone of the posts up until then and thought he might get away with some light fishing, if worded correctly (especially after his first attempt went un-remarked upon). (Yes, I truly believe that he's scum and that he obviously fished. I just think he thought he'd get away with it.) Why does it put you "in a quandry"?
Mostly curiosity. I don't necessarily mind getting people on me though, as I am not a super awesome player and I can second guess myself, so the sooner I can lock in strong feelings one way or another, the better. It's not so much that I expect heat, but I am not shocked when it happens. Though looking back at a few games, I think I am over-remembering earlier games on this site.
@Shadow, it's more so that I feel cantrip's attack on me was towny, and you not immediately jumping on was towny. GJ not voting me at all may be it, but that might be his meta. His Townlean on cheesecake for volume posting also felt a bit forced. To me, that's a weird reason to town read someone early on D1, 2 pages in, with most of it being opening day shenanigans RVS.
@LnGrrrR: What was the last game you played on this site and what was the last game you played on any site (can you link me to the off-site one, please)?
Tbf, I think it's a bit early two have strong town reads considering slightly more than half of the posts could probably be construed as ***** posts (RVS posts, if you will).
I'm on the list, so I am fine with you for now.
@Eco: Can you explain the town mindset behind LGr's fishing?
