i've given my reads multiple times, including in one of my most recent posts
but i think it's cantrip, and probably 2 of like tom, highroller, azrael? off chance it's riku since i lumped them in with highroller in that i liked the light-hearted tone in first few posts, but they've pretty much disappeared since then and not really dug into the game at all
don't see the value in lynching or pressuring a literal 0 poster who may or may not even know the game started
what are your thoughts on highroller and riku's posts so far, gj?
I feel like if you read the last page, my thoughts on highroller are pretty clear. Feel like he hasn't been hunting, and just don't like his tone in general.
Riku has been pretty null. Only think I really remember from his in how hostile he got towards me. Honestly apart from that, I wouldn't have even known he was in the game.

I don't like that he isn't posting/ isn't hunting. Tone reads on mtgs, you got to work with what you got. For some people, expecting 5 posts in a 10 minute period is tough.

of course
it just feels off to me that you even think of tone as something to read him on based on two posts that weren't really even game relevant. almost feels buzzwordy in nature, like just throwing in some filler description for the read rather than a real thought
the reason i asked about highroller and riku was that if you were struggling with scum reads, and were willing to go after azrael for literally not being here, i expected you to want people who had been here, but weren't trying to solve even harder

That's fair. I am expecting to see them start exploding in posts, but I feel like it would be almost the same problem: Lets say we are correct and Highroller flips wolf, who does that clear? I don't think anyone has come out to say he is town, so what happens. If he flips town it tells us more, but then we mislynched.
I am right now fine trying to solve in live action. Probably will start pushing someone soon. I don't like 1k+ posts on day 1 (on mtgs time, mind you.) It doesn't help that the iso button is SO bad compared to mu.
You can read tone on a single post if you want to, so I am not sure what the problem is. Tone is literally the only thing I can go of, so does his tone suggest he is trying to solve? Gut says no, but since he does only have two-three posts, waiting to see if more comes. I remember a single one talking about flavor gaming, so he also has nothing super memorable.
Looking back through Tom's ISO, it seems pretty easy to pick up where he is serious and where he isn't for the most part.
I think his first "serious" suspicion was on Shadow on post #14... he says "this is scummy because it's the wrong reason to suspect Shadow" implying there IS a good reason to suspect him
He gives Riku a townread on post #35
Not sure if he is serious about Rhand on post #188 (scummy planning the NK) but
I'm sure he is serious about post #193 "everyone talking about lngrrrr fishing to this point is scummier than the fishing ever was
Shadow/cantrip/gj"
He then calls out GJ's reads list shortly after on post #195
On post #196, he gives a reason why he thinks Shadow is scum with a quote
Then a lighthearted #197 "rand scum for going the wrong direction on cantrip/shadow" (which, as far as I can tell, is a jokey way to tell Rhand he's incorrect)
#198, he says, "feistiness would have nothing to do with scumcantrip actively fooling me. Not relevant to how ive caught him in the past, and not particularly relevant to his alignment imo
Uh
Shadow scummy for thinking feistiness is AI for cantrip
Eco scummy for seeing what is clearly a playful mood as a bad one in the quote mangle right before this"
HINT: The last two parts were jokes! He was merely explaining that Cantrip being feisty is NAI to him, and then thrw those comments in as part of the schtick.
In response to SleepyCheesecake roviding wolf theory, Tom says "this is scummy tmi if lngrr is town"... not saying Cheesecake is scummy in toto, but he's noting this comment for future if I get lynched and come up town
I don't know, I think I'm done for now. I just think everyone is making something out of nothing. His reads are there. The nervousness towards him using this schtick feels to me like it would come more from scum than town.
@Rhand, ultimately, I think he thinks you're town (or at lest, not in his scum pile), and he is trying to get you to look at your reads and question them, because they are the opposite of Tom's.
@Cheesecake, Tom isn't questioning a bunch of people, but he's making his thoughts known and laying out stances on people early on Shadow, who (I believe) most people are town reading. I don't see anything malicious in the questions he's asked or views he sees.
LnGrrrR: What do you make of Tom's ISO alignment wise? You've got a lot of information there and not a lot of analysis.
I was mainly ISOing to prove the point that Tom's schtick isn't THAT indecipherable.
I mentioned it on my readslist on page 5, but I have him as the third towniest read (myself first obviously, then you, then him). Tom hasn't necessarily interacted a ton with people, but he doesn't just shoot something off and then ignore it. He followed up with Rhand, and he followed up on his suspicion of Shadow by posting a quote showing why he suspected him. It could just be scum!Tom laying out lines of attack, but doesn't feel that way to me. Also, the amount of people claiming he isn't providing reads is counter to what I'm seeing, so that looks like a false attack on him, either by misguided town or scum looking for an opening. I would be inclined to think the latter.
@Rhand, I should clarify my last statement. I believe at the time he thought you were town to null. Now, obviously, he has you in the scum pile based on your responses to his "rand scum" post.
I was mainly ISOing to prove the point that Tom's schtick isn't THAT indecipherable.

Thanks. Who amongst those claiming Tom is obfuscating do you think is most likely to be scum?
@Eco, before I review, Cheesecake seemed to be the loudest about it. That doesn't make him scum, it just lessens my read on him a bit. Rhand also attacked Tom for calling him scum... gonna reread and see what I think in a second about how that played out.
After reread...
Cheesecake calls him out for it first (as far as I can see) on post #216, asking Vaimes for his thoughts on Tom, specifically the schtick. Which is kind of a weird question to ask in my mind, but whatever.
Vaimes said he isn't a fan on post #220 in response.
After Rhand calls Tom scum in a post, Tom votes Rhand, and then Rhand gives a mea culpa post #243 stating that he finds it distracting.
Hey look! Cantrip actually has the same mindset as me on Tom's posts. *high fives Cantrip*
Of those three, I still have them in the same order, Cheesecake, Vaimes, Rhand. But specifically looking at them in context of how they broached this, the one who gives me the scummiest vibe is Cheesecake. Cheesecake floats the question to Vaimes (who, thinking about it, is likely not scum if Cheesecake is, because I don't see why scum!Cheesecake would throw this weird question out to fellow scum!Vaimes). Vaimes then answers and doesn't harp on it. And Rhand... I'm willing to trust him for now on his "Whoops I didn't understand the gimmick", but then his throwaway, "Sure keep doing that if you're scum" feels scummy. So, in the context of this attack, in order of scumminess, Cheesecake, Rhand, Vaimes.
Overarching, rhand is scum for falling into the trap of how [generic scum] interact with [nonspecific town they dont know what to do with]
It should surprise no one here i have a lot of experience with that. And his progression on me is straight up that as well as fake.
Cheesesteak scum for not just reading the 3 paragraphs i already did on this.
As for gj read. Not super into talking about it but if i fully understood it all its a read scum are more likely to make but less likely to vocalize when they do. So i can see you thinking its not a route wolves are likely to take but dont think its more than a percentage point or two and barely care about it
Explain it like I'm five.
johnny scum for bolding the whole paragraph except for me not wanting to talk about it
I don't reeeally think Rhand is scum. "Openly talking about roles" is a potential thing if he thought it would nab him some wifom-y towncred, but now I'm more aware of it because I +town'd Lngr for it.
Meh.
Feels like tom decided Rhand is scum and is finding reasons for it on the fly.
vaimes scum for lack of awareness that that last sentence should be solidly a towntell
Thinking about it, I don’t think I would day vig lng, as he’s implied PR (and for the love of all things holy, don’t confirm or deny this right now) and that’s good enough reason atm to not. So highroller and someone in my null pile. Maybe Tom?
@Shadow, so do you think I am scum or not? The justification for your theoretical dayvig makes it sound like you think I am likely town but willing to shoot me for data.
I’m not ready to just ignore the post earlier that made me thing you were scum, and I have quite a few town reads. Your flip would definitely provide data, but if I was townreading you I wouldn’t condone it (it’s why I only jokingly suggested Ruma but would not actually condone it, unless the read went sour, which hasn’t happened quite yet).
OK. I read your #93 as guessing my motive for voting rather than a straight question. So I explained why I voted instead because it didn't have anything to do with whether I agreed with your reads or not.
Since it transpires you were genuninely asking me those questions and not actually adressing my vote, I'll answer: at the time, I don't think I would call any of them slam dunk town reads. Cheesecake was (and is) looking the best of them, but the others are pretty tenuous really - certainly nowhere close to calling the game easy. That's why I think you didn't genuninely consider them all strong town reads - you just listed them because other people were and you wanted to join in and get town points for making town reads. And if you are scum, you probably didn't list four townies - being able to slip a buddy into the list provides even more incentive to put some hard, burgeoning consensus town reads on record. Plus the more general "rule of threes".
They were definitely strong reads for that stage of the day, and Ruma is the only that’s waning, but not enough to drop off the list.
As far as rule of three, as scum I always actively subvert that because it’s one of the few decently strong ways to read most scum post flip.
If it looks like too many people are town, I'm putting money on Cheesestick being a deep wolf.
He seems like the type.
Not that I'd advocate FoS'ing him anytime soon.
I so hope this is scum!vaimes having the balls to Wifom around his buddy scum!cheescake. Would be absolutely hilarious. So I guess I talk about highroller now.
If you're asking who is Amelie Jeunet, good question, because I have never heard of her before receiving my role PM, and a google search turned up with nothing. Could this be Grapefruit21's way of throwing off any mass flavor claiming breaking the game? If so, tip of the hat to him for Highroller-proofing the game.
I'm actually going to try something here. Vote: Grapefruit21.
So, if anyone's curious, that Mon's Goblin Raiders is mine. I'm the Goblin Recruiter. I make goblins, and send them to the graveyard. Every day before dawn. That's my ability. Seriously.
I assume at least one person has an ability somewhere that does something to things in the graveyard, in which case, hey, knock yourself right out with that goblin. There will be another one tomorrow. You're welcome.
Man, this is awesome. I LOVED when Goblin Recruiter got banned, because it's hilarious that out of all of the cards of Magic, they banned a creature, and on top of all of the myriad of creatures that have been in Magic, it's a GOBLIN that gets banned?! Hysterical. So the fact that I'm this ridiculous goblin is the BEST. You guys can keep your Ancestral Recalls and your Mox Gems. I'm a banned CREATURE, fools, and I'm not even banned because I have ante or conspiracy or some scrub nonsense like that, it's cuz I'm straight up broken!
Sorry, I don't like double posting, so was waiting for someone else to reply, then had to go to sleep and haven't been able to post until now because of work.
I actually have a second ability that activates when I die. I am able to create two goblin corpses to add to the graveyard including my own. They can be any goblin card I want (spoiler warning: at least one of them is definitely going to be Goblin Gardener. Believe in the sausage tree, man. Believe in your dreams!), and are either townie, mafia, or neutral. Again, no idea what this does, but the presence of neutrality indicates there are probably other neutrals in the game.
Bur: I can't seem to quote your post without something weird happening, but as to "Why did you decide to claim this...?", I pretty much always claim Day 1. I would imagine Axelrod remembers this.
I don't know why this isn't common practice. The town's advantage is numbers. The Mafia's advantage is that early on they have all of the relevant information, as no one knows who they are, they know who each other are, and therefore they can control the flow of information (hence why the mafia generally have two plays: 1. lurk, or 2. try to have one member take control of the town's discussion). The neutral role's advantage is that no one necessarily expects that they'll be in the game, and/or they have some sort of ability to compensate for their being greatly outnumbered.
The town have two ways to get rid of the mafia's inherent advantage:
1. Decide lynching order at the start of the game by random number generator, as the last people are more likely to be town than mafia, but this is easy to screw with, and frankly, takes 100% of the fun out of the game, however much it might make mathematical sense, thereby making it dumb and boring,
OR,
2. Roleclaim early. This generally breaks games unless the mod has put in planning to counter this strategy, and even then it doesn't generally put the town at a disadvantage, it just kind of gets them where they started.
@Highroller, that Goblin hasn't been recruited, he's been slaughtered. Poor guy is dead. Just what kind of Recruiter are you?
Yeah, it really doesn't make sense, does it? I interpret it as there's literally no other place to put goblins. Though frankly, I feel it would have made a lot more sense to give me the ability to cast more than one vote or something, though that's probably too imba.
Okay so. Highroller rode the massclaim train for the entirety of day 1 and even beyond in Banned Mafia. He specifically held that the game could be broken by a massclaim, specifically roles as well as flavor. He even contested that even a setup designed to prevent this wasn’t even that bad for town.
He gets in here, claimed his flavor, and then says “oh no, I guess because the flavor is made up that won’t work,” and then drops it entirely. For real? He doesn’t even try and get something going, he doesn’t even speculate on anything, or even bring up mass claim and his reasons why.
Pretty sure he rolled scum and doesn’t actually want to push that angle.
Thinking about it, I don’t think I would day vig lng, as he’s implied PR (and for the love of all things holy, don’t confirm or deny this right now) and that’s good enough reason atm to not. So highroller and someone in my null pile. Maybe Tom?
shadow scum because theres absolutely no way he vigs me d1 if town regardless of his read

Why not? It would be fun. And the upside is if you’re scum, your team gets rattled and no longer has you to cheerlead and carry.
To clarify, you're not impacting my fun or anything, I'm just finding it weird that you're being quite short with people (going all in on LnGrrR, "NOTED" against GJ, sniping at Vaimes, challenging Rhand to the THUNDERDOME). But you're not really under any pressure, nor would I associate this with you as either alignment - pressure or not. Maybe it is just over excitement that's being expressed in an odd way. After your V/LA (why bother declaring this for under a day??) could you take a step back and see if you can more calmly reflect on things?
Glad to hear I'm not affecting your fun, but sorta bummed if I'm coming across as "quite short". Was going more for "awesomely edgy!!!1one!" And no, being suspected by Rhand and Cheesecake doesn't count as pressure (but does it count as being attacked by a beefcake with a cheesecake?). As for the V/LA, I just felt like the game was moving at mach 10 and I was about to suddenly drop off the map. Figured it'd be better than coming back to a bunch of accusations that I couldn't take the pressure.
I think (at least) shadow would be aware enough of voting patterns for that kind of thing to not really apply.
If he voted first and Cantrip followed, eh, maybe?
I...think I should be insulted? Are you trying to say that I don't have an awareness of voting patterns and therefore me following Shadow would make us less likely to be scumbuddies? Pff. You don't know me very well.
Just to be sure, are you saying you think caution around Shadow is warranted based on his claim in the Team game? I skimmed from where Shadow claimed in that to the end of the game and didn't think that his claim really impacted the outcome much if at all. What about a late-game VT claim where Shadow was scum makes him more likely to be scum here?
FTR, I generally approve of a generic "Not that I'm willing to share at this time." It's an acceptable response, imo, because you'll eventually have to reveal your thinking, but doesn't just hand info over to the scum.
In conjunction with this, one of GJ's early responses kept running through my head, and I've pretty much decided that it was made from a town mindset/scum would have likely gone a different route, so I'm cautiously moving GJ up on my list. Possible it's NAI for GJ, but it makes me feel better about him. I'm not willing to share what I'm talking about at this time, but feel free to push me for an explanation later.
Overarching, rhand is scum for falling into the trap of how [generic scum] interact with [nonspecific town they dont know what to do with]

You’re ignoring my whole thought progression to fit your narrative.
Will you outline your thought progression again for me, please?
I mean. I'm not really vibing with shadow being town. tom also seems like he's pushing a mislynch. Still gmeo Cantrip and his rainbow unicorn aura.
Vaimes. Seriously. You don't have to worry about sorting me, because:
@LnG: Ok, you can move up on the read list, too. Continuous pocket attempts aside, which weren't swaying me, I'm pretty sure scum would have leaped at the opportunity I afforded with 158 and 185 to jump down my throat. You didn't.
Not really liking Highroller or Vaimes. The former mostly because I don't feel that inquisitive nature and the latter is more on tone and just bad vibes.
what are your thoughts on highroller and riku's posts so far, gj?
I feel like if you read the last page, my thoughts on highroller are pretty clear. Feel like he hasn't been hunting, and just don't like his tone in general.
I mean...your reasons for HR in the first post and in the second aren't specifically contradictory, but it does sorta feel like you're just tossing around "tone" as it suits you. Still feel better about you, but not quite as better as I did before 357.
Immediately? Highroller and LNG, with a big temptation of Ruma because it would be funny.
Also @Shadow: Did you respond to my 191 and I just missed it? Oh...you sorta did. 202. But...seriously. I'm REALLY struggling with the idea that THAT was what you thought was the BEST way to shut things down...especially when it was already dying out. I don't want to talk about OTHER players. Let's say town!you saw X players who might be on the verge of revealing role info to the scumteam. Why is the best move to give the scumteam definite information about you?
Eh, I think I'm somewhere around:
Town
Ecophagy
tomsloger
LnGrrrR
Vaimes
Riku
Highroller
vezokpiraka
SleepyCheesecake
Gentleman Johnny
Rhand
Shadowlancerx Scum
I'm out of time for the moment, so feel free to ask about any of those reads. I plan on elaborating when next I post, but I will make a quick note that I'm not entirely happy with my Rhand placement. I'll elaborate on that more when I return/after Rhand responds to my questions above.
@Cantrip as far as whether I thought claiming was the best course of action; yes, and if you aren’t getting why, then I can’t help you get there today.
Frozen? Anyone have experience with scum!Highroller, or are we just gonna keep riding the Banned Mafia pony?
-
Cantrip, do you always do the eh thing? I cannot for the life of me recall you doing it in.............damn I already forgot the game and shadow literally just mentioned it.
reminder to myself to look at his lngr progression, but the scum reads in particular just feel false to me - rhand to a degree, but shadow more so have been getting increasingly stronger as town reads this game, and him having them that far low, not to mention myself (though given I'm voting him, I can at least see this as a kind of OMGUS as town), just feels so out of touch with how I'm seeing the game that I struggle to see it coming from a villager
tom being that high feels super wrong to me, and I touched on lngr also feeling wrong, given the way he pounced on his fishing early game, but I need to re-read his posts to see if the progression there is natural
wish i had read from his most recent post backward looking at lngr interactions, because it wasn't until the most recent post that it at all made sense for him to have that read based on previous posts
@LnG: Ok, you can move up on the read list, too. Continuous pocket attempts aside, which weren't swaying me, I'm pretty sure scum would have leaped at the opportunity I afforded with 158 and 185 to jump down my throat. You didn't.
not sure if this does a whole lot for me, considering he was claiming lngr was trying to pocket him, why would he think he'd jump down his throat?
one thing of note when combing through his iso a bit is that cantrip is absolutely the type of player i'm going to struggle to read as genuine, almost every post has an extra phrase or an emote or something that just looks 100% fake
might need to do some meta diving, but was hoping i'd not have to do that on an unfamiliarish site with software that isn't wonderful
Eh....why are you skimming on the first real life day of the first game Day when there's only a hundred posts since your last post? Or rather, why did you feel the need to pop in, [captain obvious observation], [random generic townread], [snarky unproductive response]? As opposed to something thoughtful and constructive that actually touches on current events?
11. Highroller - Really quiet... haven't been impressed by the few posts he's had so far, since his finished game he sounded super towny quick to me. When he did just pop in, he didn't comment on any of the action going on in the game.
Because I woke up to there being 4 pages of posts and I didn’t read them all. It’s been a particularly busy week, I have work, and this thread has exploded in terms of activity.
I feel like if you read the last page, my thoughts on highroller are pretty clear. Feel like he hasn't been hunting, and just don't like his tone in general.
... My tone in general? I've made two posts. One of which was a silly filler post because I hadn't read the thread fully. The hell tone did you glean from that?
I'm not too worried about tinfoiling, and the Az slot will probably just be replaced and stop lurking, so.
But, you also just called tom a town in one of your last posts....

Club Flamingo Wins: 1!
Thanks. Who amongst those claiming Tom is obfuscating do you think is most likely to be scum?

As far as rule of three, as scum I always actively subvert that because it’s one of the few decently strong ways to read most scum post flip.
What are your current feelings on Vaimes? I so hope this is scum!vaimes having the balls to Wifom around his buddy scum!cheescake. Would be absolutely hilarious.
So I guess I talk about highroller now.
For reference:
He gets in here, claimed his flavor, and then says “oh no, I guess because the flavor is made up that won’t work,” and then drops it entirely. For real? He doesn’t even try and get something going, he doesn’t even speculate on anything, or even bring up mass claim and his reasons why.
Pretty sure he rolled scum and doesn’t actually want to push that angle.
Heck, you should know scum me is waaaay more interested in keeping you around
Shadow is scum because ^
But if I actually had one, I would consider you Tom.
WUT? Random.
I...think I should be insulted? Are you trying to say that I don't have an awareness of voting patterns and therefore me following Shadow would make us less likely to be scumbuddies? Pff. You don't know me very well.
Why?
Just to be sure, are you saying you think caution around Shadow is warranted based on his claim in the Team game? I skimmed from where Shadow claimed in that to the end of the game and didn't think that his claim really impacted the outcome much if at all. What about a late-game VT claim where Shadow was scum makes him more likely to be scum here?
Why? Again, I don't see how Shadow's claim in that game really affected anything, so what does it do for you?
This feels fake. Why post this rather than checking the iso, seeing two posts, reading them, and saying "I just reread HR"?
Detail what route you're talking about, please?
Will you outline your thought progression again for me, please?
I'm serious: I feel like you're being snarkier than usual. Is it just a case of tone misinterpretation, like Eco with me, or are you not having fun?
Vaimes.
You didn't.
@GJ: Wait, wait...in 265 you said:
And then in 357 you said:
I mean...your reasons for HR in the first post and in the second aren't specifically contradictory, but it does sorta feel like you're just tossing around "tone" as it suits you. Still feel better about you, but not quite as better as I did before 357.
@Shadow: Remind me to ask you about this later:
Rhand
Shadowlancerx
Scum
I'm out of time for the moment, so feel free to ask about any of those reads. I plan on elaborating when next I post, but I will make a quick note that I'm not entirely happy with my Rhand placement. I'll elaborate on that more when I return/after Rhand responds to my questions above.
@Rhand: You said you weren't attacking Tom for the gimmick, but I felt like that's exactly what you were doing in 243, eh?
*Puts GJ in bottom 3*
What?
I'm not gonna elaborate on the shadow thing for now. That's just my way of bookmarking that whole interaction, so to speak.
Unvote, vote Highroller
Frozen? Anyone have experience with scum!Highroller, or are we just gonna keep riding the Banned Mafia pony?
-
Cantrip, do you always do the eh thing? I cannot for the life of me recall you doing it in.............damn I already forgot the game and shadow literally just mentioned it.
i don't think these are real reads
tom being that high feels super wrong to me, and I touched on lngr also feeling wrong, given the way he pounced on his fishing early game, but I need to re-read his posts to see if the progression there is natural
not sure if this does a whole lot for me, considering he was claiming lngr was trying to pocket him, why would he think he'd jump down his throat?
one thing of note when combing through his iso a bit is that cantrip is absolutely the type of player i'm going to struggle to read as genuine, almost every post has an extra phrase or an emote or something that just looks 100% fake
might need to do some meta diving, but was hoping i'd not have to do that on an unfamiliarish site with software that isn't wonderful
No idea why anyone is reading me as mafia. People are acting like they found the Da Vinci Code in that one substantial post I made.
This is a fantastic post.
Same as in a vanilla game.
How does everyone know who I am?
You're trying too hard, Cantripmancer.
But, like, why though?
Because I woke up to there being 4 pages of posts and I didn’t read them all. It’s been a particularly busy week, I have work, and this thread has exploded in terms of activity.
… All two of those posts I’ve made? Boy, I hope you brewed a cup of strong coffee there, Rhand, cuz it looks like it’s going to be an all-nighter.
... My tone in general? I've made two posts. One of which was a silly filler post because I hadn't read the thread fully. The hell tone did you glean from that?
Getting a lot of tryhards here.
Do your thing.
