Rules:
• Have fun and be courteous and respectful to your fellow players and your mod.
• This is an open setup for 8 Players: 6 town, 2 mafia, all players are vanilla.
• Each Day has a strict 120 hour (five day) deadline.
• Each Night will last 24 hours.
• Mafia still have the standard nightkill each Night.
• Due to the structure of the game, each player is expected to make at least one post every 24 hours or five posts each Day.
• Each Day can be ended prematurely by all players who still have a Ninja Scalpel indicating "No Kill" (must be in bold). Any pending Ninja Strikes will resolve (as there will be no Ninja Scalpels left to prevent them).
• Posting "No Kill" does not actually expend the Scalpel; it just indicates unwillingness to use it. A player may retract his/her "No Kill" at any time prior to the End of Day being announced.
• This game adheres to the Lights Out mechanic in that any number of deaths may occur each Day, but alignments won't be revealed until the Day ends.
• In lieu of the standard lynch mechanic, at the start of each Day, each player who doesn't have a Ninja Scalpel gains one:
Ninja Scalpel (Day, Targeted, One Shot): Post "Ninja Strike [Player Name]" (must be in bold). Each player who still has a Ninja Scalpel has 24 hours from the time of that post (or until the Day deadline, whichever is sooner) to use their Ninja Scalpel by posting "Ninja Deflect [Targeted Player]" (must also be in bold). If no player does, the targeted player is killed. You may not target yourself with this ability (neither to kill nor to protect).
Sample Town Role PM
Welcome to Lights Out 3: Dr. McNinja Army of One mafia. You are Vanilla Town.
You win the game when all threats to the Town have been eliminated.
• The scum win condition is "You win the game when all Town players have been killed."
Role PMs have been sent out; game will begin once 6 players confirm via PM.
A few clarifications/examples, based on various questions I received:
• If Ecophagy Strikes Iso and Proph wants to save Iso, Proph types "Ninja Deflect Iso" (not "Ninja Deflect Ecophagy").
• Multiple Strikes can be going at once (directed at the same player and/or multiple players).
• If Ecophagy Strikes Iso and Tom Strikes Iso, two players must use their Ninja Deflect on Iso in order to save him. One within 24 hours of Ecophagy's Strike, and another within 24 hours of Tom's Strike.
• You can type "Ninja Deflect [Player Name]" when that player doesn't have a pending Strike against him/her, but it won't do anything. If that player is later Struck, you'll have to type it again to save that player.
• You only get ONE Scalpel (Strike OR Deflect) each Day.
• At the start of each Day, if you used your Scalpel the previous Day (to Strike OR Deflect), you get a new one.
• However, if you didn't use your Scalpel the previous Day, you don't get a new one. They don't accumulate.
• Strikes will be mod-announced when the Mod notices them, but the 24-hour period starts as soon as the Ninja Strike post is made.
(Purely) for your flavor pleasure:
Dr. McNinja and Old McNinja, having been captured by Mongo, await their fate in a ninja-proof cell (well, it's not really ninja-proof, nothing's actually ninja-proof, but neither McNinja really feels like escaping at the moment). The door unlocks and swings open. Knickerbockers stands triumphantly in the doorway, Mongo's hulking bulk filling the space behind him.
It's time. Knickerbockers says.
The two McNinjas look at each other, each trying to make sure neither gives the same smart-alec response as the other, as then they'd have to race to say jinx and someone would end up owing someone a Coke.
What time? asks Dr. McNinja.
Miller time? posits Old McNinja.
Lunch time? queries Dr. McNinja.
Hammer time? says Old McNinja, reaching.
Mongo grabs both ninjas and carries them by the scruffs of their necks, like tiny adorable kittens, into an abandoned warehouse that's also, completely unexpectedly, half a restaurant. As the two banter wittily, a shadowy figure appears on a balcony. It's Frans Raynor! (dun dun duuuuuunn!) After lots of wordy word words for exposition (honestly, I don't see why the comic even bothers; just get on with the red ink. -ed), Raynor nods at Knickerbockers, who opens a panel revealing over a hundred Dr. McNinja clones.
Go, my clones! screams Raynor. Wreak havoc on these two other yous, and avenge your clonic father! (Ok, he doesn't really say this; I'm not nearly as good at Dr. McNinja dialogue as Christopher Hastings, but I strongly suspect that I'm not the main attraction here, so I'm trying to keep it short and sweet. -ed)
In a surprise twist (spoilers!), the ninja clones have no inclination to beat themselves up and instead turn on Raynor. But in a(nother) surprise twist (more spoilers!), Raynor reveals that, true to movie trope, now that he is one man facing an army, there's no way he can lose. Dr. McNinja, realizing that nothing can beat a movie trope (even an army of ninjas) except for another trope, knows that the only way to beat Raynor now is to join him! (Third surprise twist! And third spoilers! Oh, was this supposed to come before the revelation?)
Thus resolved, Dr. McNinja and Frans Raynor begin to rain unholy destruction down upon the hapless clones...
It is the beginning of Day 1; please commence with the joyful (and civil) killing of each other.
Day 1 deadline is 120 hours from this post.
I wasn't going to stoop to this, but since someone recently accused me of not appreciating a certain other ninja-related franchise...
This is me not firing my ninja scalpel first post despite really wanting to.
Also, I’ve been contemplating mechanics; if we kill 2 today and go to final 5 with 2 scum still alive, any town mis-scalpel ends the game, offensively or defensively. In a normal setup a mis Vote can be unvoted, but not here.
(I still think killing 2 people today is our best option)

I really wanna fire my shot as well, seems like an interesting way to get the game rolling, i would rather 1 person die atleast on the first day. I aint too keen on multiple deaths on day 1, if both are town then the disadvantage coming out of n1 will be horrid. Thats just my opinion, obviously seems like your is much different.

Oooh, I hadn’t even decided before I realized it was not an optimal play. Probably Osie just to see the look on his face, or DV because he would have flamed the heck out of me

I would have flamed the heck out of you.
What about the doctor? The chance of you being saved in 24 hours exists, so whats there to worry about?

I wouuld rather the day be treated as normal which involves 1 person dieing, and then catch scum based on the interactions of whoever died and what he flipped.
@Shinichi: Do the math, if one person dies today instead of two, town either controls one less kill overall, or we have one less flip to work with when we go to MsLo (Miss scalpel/Lose)
@Bur: if you had fired randomly who would you have picked?
Had I fired randomly, I would've just gone to random.org and asked it to pick me a target!
But in all seriousness, probably you.
Town!me is afraid of scum!shadow
Scum!me is afraid of town!shadow

Sorry i am confused easily lol
If 2 town get shot today we lose 2 killing powers, well 3 after the night resolves.
Also it would become a 3/2 I dont really like those odds at all

I would rather have more town alive coming into day 2 than less though, i am honestly just bad with nmbers so i cant see the benefits of taking such a risk. If you can explain it well enough ill def change my opinion.
Okay so heres da earf (Yes I know I have made this joke before) assuming we don’t hit scum until absolutely necessary, if we kill one today, then tomorrow we either kill one and lose (3-2 then scum night kill) or we kill until only two people are left/no scalpels are left, operating with only the one flip from day one and the night kill.
Whereas if we kill 2 today, we start tomorrow with 3-2 and kill until there are only 2 left/no scalpels, but we have one more flip to work with.
I mean no ill by this, but when you take a look at playerlist: DoTA is a mislynch bait, Shinichi is a mislynch bait, osie is a mislynch bait...
See the pattern?

Well you can rest easy, none of them will get lynched this game
Hi Shinichi. As Bur mentioned, I am mislynch bait. Often. I have a tendency to get stuck on crazy modgaming theories and tunnel like a Mofo.
@Shadow: Two things come to mind - 1) Scum wanted to do the same thing in Russian Roulette, fire in their first shot but then it didn't work out for them and 2) (crazy theory time) in small games like this it's most often scum who make posts about the mechanics and start debating probabilities. Therefore:

Scalpels reset every day phase or no? I think this question needs to be answered unless though I would assume it has to reset since it basically how we lynch.
@bursama not a fan of throwing away lives to solve the game faster is all, so do you agree with shadow?
Yes, I said so earlier. Also, why do you want to go to the final day with more townies. What the advantage of MyLo over LyLo in your opinion?
I dont think there is a clear advantage, but the more town alive the more day kills we can use to our advantage plus the extra protection amkes a different. Wouldnt it be easier for scum to control a 3-2 situation?

I kinda feel like your jumping the gun a little here, because couldnt the same be said about the first person to take action being linked to a scum alignment? I've never played with you so those things on Mislynch bait dont aplly to me, i hate mod gaming with a passion tho.

Cantrip does mention it above, at the start of each day phase any used scalpels are replaced, and anyone who didn't use theirs doesn't et a second. What are your thoughts on the few who have posted so far?
Ninja Strike Tracker:
shadowlancerx (1) - Struck by DoTArchon. Unless deflected before then, shadowlancerx will die on Tuesday, March 20th, at 1712 MDT
Also, please note that the scum wincon has been added to post #2 as public knowledge: "You win the game when all Town players have been killed."
Finally, if desired, I will track votes to ease in understanding gamestates. Votes will not accomplish anything beyond tracking the gamestate. You may make your wishes on this matter known in-thread or via PM.
Bur is town, good questions and focusing on motivations rather than mechanics.
Shinichi is pinging me, most of their posts so far have been neutral but the bolded here:
So now the question becomes, who's willing to sacrifice their killing power to save Shadow, and why?
And if not, why not?
I mean if I dont have reason to believe his is scum in the next 24 hours, ill most likely be saving him.
is a really "safe" (read scummy) answer. Plenty of room to maneuver that read to fit into whatever hole gets them to end game rather than committing to a yes or no.
Osie and D_av haven't done much yet, need more from them.
And I think that's everyone that has posted so far

What is this "advantage" you speak of?
In 4-2, if town misfires, either that player dies (bringing us down to 2-2 when it comes to scalpels) or another town saves them (bringing us again to 2-2 regarding scalpels).
In 3-2, if town misfires, we'll end up in dead townie (bringing us to 2-1) or another townie saving them (2-1 again).
And in 2-2 (just like 2-1), mafia wins.

I am waiting for people to post more and comment on your ninja shot before id ecide anything.
Sure, i know full well their is plenty of room given with the type of post I have made. Would it have made much of a difference if I just randomly saved him later into the phase?
Ill admit his mechanics talk isn't looking to good but thats no where enough to warrent being shot in 24 hours.

I assumed it was a thing but apparently didnt know it was mentioned, too early more to give any initial reads on people.
@Dota: I’m going to very strongly disagree that mechanics talk in a game like this is a scum tactic. Because of the special mechanics of lights out, staying silent means that’s any townies who don’t get it are disadvantaged.

I wouuld rather the day be treated as normal which involves 1 person dieing, and then catch scum based on the interactions of whoever died and what he flipped.
Had I fired randomly, I would've just gone to random.org and asked it to pick me a target!
But in all seriousness, probably you.
Town!me is afraid of scum!shadow
Scum!me is afraid of town!shadow
(And had we both been scum, I would've still fired it at you because next-level WIFOM)
Okay. Why?
Sorry i am confused easily lol
If 2 town get shot today we lose 2 killing powers, well 3 after the night resolves.
Also it would become a 3/2 I dont really like those odds at all
I would rather have more town alive coming into day 2 than less though, i am honestly just bad with nmbers so i cant see the benefits of taking such a risk. If you can explain it well enough ill def change my opinion.
heres da earf(Yes I know I have made this joke before) assuming we don’t hit scum until absolutely necessary, if we kill one today, then tomorrow we either kill one and lose (3-2 then scum night kill) or we kill until only two people are left/no scalpels are left, operating with only the one flip from day one and the night kill.Whereas if we kill 2 today, we start tomorrow with 3-2 and kill until there are only 2 left/no scalpels, but we have one more flip to work with.
Yes, I said so earlier. Also, why do you want to go to the final day with more townies. What the advantage of MyLo over LyLo in your opinion?
I mean no ill by this, but when you take a look at playerlist: DoTA is a mislynch bait, Shinichi is a mislynch bait, osie is a mislynch bait...
See the pattern?
@Shadow: Two things come to mind - 1) Scum wanted to do the same thing in Russian Roulette, fire in their first shot but then it didn't work out for them and 2) (crazy theory time) in small games like this it's most often scum who make posts about the mechanics and start debating probabilities. Therefore:
Ninja Strike: Shadowlancer
Scalpels reset every day phase or no? I think this question needs to be answered unless though I would assume it has to reset since it basically how we lynch.
I mean if I dont have reason to believe his is scum in the next 24 hours, ill most likely be saving him.
Ninja Strike Tracker:
shadowlancerx (1) - Struck by DoTArchon. Unless deflected before then, shadowlancerx will die on Tuesday, March 20th, at 1712 MDT
Players Still Holding Scalpels:
1. Bur
2. D_V
4. KamikaziArchon
5. osieorb18
6. shadowlancerx
7. Shinichi
8. vezokpiraka
=======================================================================
For the Flavor Fun of It:
The first three McNinja clones to die thought of themselves as "Dr. McNinja", "The Real MC Ninja", and "McNinja #3".
Shinichi is pinging me, most of their posts so far have been neutral but the bolded here:
is a really "safe" (read scummy) answer. Plenty of room to maneuver that read to fit into whatever hole gets them to end game rather than committing to a yes or no.
Osie and D_av haven't done much yet, need more from them.
And I think that's everyone that has posted so far
Yes, it's mentioned in the rules.
Ok then?
Also mechanic talk does lean more towards scum behavior, but its also wifom to assume only scum do it though so i take it with a grain of salt.
Let me do my VOTAL right now.
Quality stuff.
Can't decide if I want to reflect the kill or just kill Dota.
OH ALREADY KILLING SHADOW?!
Fun, fun. I like me a good murder but first things first!
Dual-class Analyst/Bear.
More likely to use it to kill Shadow's killer than to protect Shadow. Vigs > Docs.
Mod: Does a kill stop pending ninja strikes? Specific example:
Hour 0: A strikes at B.
Hour 6: B strikes at C.
Hour 24: A resolves, B dies.
Hour 30: ??? - does C die?
