It was dawn, I believe, when we first discovered the signs of a mutiny - crew members shuffling about, muttering about something their heard in their cabins overnight. Something about "Death to the Captain." Something about "Take control of the ship." Something about the dead body impaled with a knife and a note about all of this nonsense stabbed into the body.
Cap'n Bones was none too happy about it. She suffers no man, and damned if she wasn't the only woman on board. She lined us all up and roared in our faces,
"LOOK HERE, YE SCURVY DOGS. I KNOW ONE OF YEH IS PLANNIN' TA TAKE MY SHIP FROM ME - BUT THE RED MARROW IS MINE, YEH HEAR?!?"
She then proceeded to inform us on how she planned to deal with this - every day, we'd take a vote on who we thought the traitors were, and then they'd have to walk the plank until there were no more deaths on-board.

Ok. So, I'm going to ruin Iso's wonderful rule by instantly full-claiming.
I'm the flying dutchman. I am currently a neutral survivor, but I also have the capacity to win the game and cause everyone else to lose. I do this by gaining souls.
I gain souls in two ways. One, I can target a player and steal that player's soul, which will not materially affect them in any fashion, except that they will be notified that I did this. Two, by being the hammer vote on a lynch.
I have three tiers of abilities. The first is that non-killing abilities will not affect me, at 2 souls. The second is that I can send a message with 250 character limit - attempts to identify myself within said message will be censored out, at 4 souls. The third is by being bulletproof, at 6 souls.
At 10 souls, I win the game and everyone else loses. It would be fantastic for you guys to put me up to six souls, at which point I will cease collecting souls by night or by hammering, on pain of you guys killing me.
In return for putting me up to six souls to help my not die, I will commence wrecking the scum team and reducing them to flotsam.
Hopefully no hitmen with me on their list this game, or I'm sunk.
It’s an iso game, so that could actually be a thing, but it’s also a normal....I think I want you to prove your ability to steal souls before we talk about accords.
The sun rose on the Red Marrow cutting through calm waters and a clear sky on a leisurely eastern breeze.
Soon after dawn some dark, Azrael-shaped clouds appeared on the stern horizon, perhaps foretelling a coming storm many days away.
Or perhaps something more sinister.
First, a survivor with an extra wincon that causes everyone else to lose the game is odd from the get-go.
Second, assuming that "survivor + souls wincon" is true, you would have no reason to honestly tell us the number of souls you need. Maybe you just win at 6 souls, or at 8 souls. Pushing an admitted non-town closer to an alleged wincon that would case everyone else to lose is crazy.
You're a confident enough player that you could be gambitting with this as actual mafia; if "soul stealing" is a real mechanic, you would know that it would be revealed quickly by those who had it happen to them, and you're preparing your cover story. Alternately, it is possible you're telling the truth - but that still means you have an anti-town wincon option. Either way you're definitely not on our side unless we force you to be.
My counterproposal: we never allow Az to hammer, on pain of death. If we go too long without killing scum, we lynch Az. This prevents him from being scum and getting away with a neutral claim - and if he really is neutral, it forces him to win with the town.

I have a long history of claiming neutral roles up front and attempting to work with the town, since I have a far better history as a town player than scum. Playing as scum and/or lying rubs against my grain. So the more truth in the claim, the better, with absolute truth being the simplest. As Tom surely recalls, I don't always claim neutral 100% accurately, but in this case, I did. So, take that with whatever grains of salt you can wring out of the ocean-water.
Frankly, I think just basic game balance issues ought to confirm that even if you think my numbers are slightly off, they can't be off by that much. I'm clearly not going to win at six souls, or I would have just shut up. I suppose you could argue I have some kind of third way of getting souls, but if you're worried about that, I'll just derp around here in my corner doing whatever level of effort feels fun to avoid attracting undue amounts of cannon-fire, and you lose out on an experienced analyst's best efforts. Which would be annoying, but eh. Rolling neutral is what it is. Survivor is probably my least favorite iteration of win con. If you're going to give me a neutral role and want it to work as intended, make it one where I can't just work with the town so easily, give it a kill, or make it spicier than just having a goal of remaining completely innocuous and unimpactful in order to play to your win con. Or, you can cure the pernicious incentives for me to NOT play the game, by actually giving me a reason to get up off the couch at some point and bestir myself to help you.
In short neutral survivors are the worst, and I rebel. You can help me rebel, or I can chuck rotten fruit at you from the mizzenmast, because I'd be playing against my win condition to actually try to help you otherwise.
In short neutral survivors are the worst, and I rebel. You can help me rebel, or I can chuck rotten fruit at you from the mizzenmast, because I'd be playing against my win condition to actually try to help you otherwise.
If survival wins, you're not playing against your wincon to help us. So are you saying survival isn't a wincon? Or that you're going to ignore that wincon entirely, and play poorly if survival is your only viable wincon? I don't believe that you would actually do that - and if you did try, I think you'd just get modkilled.
Psst, by the way, scum team, don't sweat it. You can totally not kill me and maybe count on my vote at the end of the game to seal the deal. Except for the scenario where I decide to epicly troll you for the lolz. But that's totally not going to happen. Pirate's honor. Totally trustworthy dude, right here. <---
'Sup town. Nothing to see here. Good to be among fellow medium-sized creatures and such.
See, this is how you know I'm actually a neutral survivor. Because this is the kind of next-level play against my own win con you can only expect from Azrael when he's playing against his own alignment, claiming scum, and the like. Because, I only do that under one alignment. Never faked. Never a riddle.
Also I never gambit, so nothing to fear there. Kami's totally exaggerating those risks.
*sigh* Is it bad that in order to feel alive as a neutral survivor, I have to intentionally flirt with death? Yeah, that's probably bad. Why do we still have these roles?

Or that you're going to ignore that wincon entirely, and play poorly if survival is your only viable wincon? I don't believe that you would actually do that - and if you did try, I think you'd just get modkilled.
Oh, I'm totally not playing to my lame win condition. Or at least, I'm trying not to, really really hard. Because survival is 1) Boring and 2) Almost completely dependent on others' actions. But I'm also a competitive person. But I'm also a person who prefers to compete against others than to compete towards arbitrary role goals. So...yeah. Feeling a little torn, a little miffed, hard to excuse actually implementing good play because my role punishes me for good play.
We could lynch Azreal, but I think there is no problem letting him live for the time being.
@Azreal I do have on question for you though. When do you "Steal the soul" of your victim.
At night and upon hammer? Or is this an order of operations question that I have to actually PM the mod about and expend effort upon? Because that sounds annoying.

With that answer it does become an order of operations question. Sorry.
Mostly I want to know when it resolves. Before or after kills in the night.
Also, limited past experiences says Tom is slightly more likely town, but I resent other people pulling smilie gambit variations, so I have to vote him on principle.
Also, Kami completely and utterly claimed scum in post 25. But I'll let you super sleuths figure out the precise reasoning on that. Can't make it too easy, now.
vote Kami
Also, tell your buddies not to mess with me, yo. I'll glower at you menacingly with my complete lack of abilities that impact the game.
No, ha, ha, wait. I'll NEIGHBORIZE YOUR TEAM TO DEATH. HA. THAT WILL LEARN YOU, YA SCURVY BILGE RATS
Why did you instantly have suspicion of the claim, but when I prod for information attempt to ruin it before Azreal could answer?
What does my question ruin?
Yeah I have no interest in letting Az as a neutral get anywhere past day one, not with the attitude he’s already taking.
I'd rather figure out if we can force him to work with us first. The OMGUS on me suggests he isn't working with town yet, but we have time to change that. I'll accept his lynch only if we have no good true-mafia candidates by EOD, or I see better evidence that he's not a neutral at all.
Vote Azreal
Yeah I have no interest in letting Az as a neutral get anywhere past day one, not with the attitude he’s already taking.
I too advise that you punish absolute honesty and transparency forthwith. Very unbecoming traits in our profession.
If you “honestly and transparently” claimed scum then you would be lynched, so no, the underlying implication that I’m somehow being a bad player by wanting to lynch your honesty doesn’t hold water. I actually believe your claim, but I don’t care. I think you’re a dangerous player as any alignment, and since you’re actively anti town by design, I want you dead and gone.

@Nobue I believe Jesters are considered bastard here. You seem to be implying that you are one (or maybe that Az is one, I"m not really sure what you're getting at), but bringing it up is a weird look.
@Az I got the opposite impression on 25. I think it's a town+ suggestion to try and force your hand like that. Don't see a scum claim at all.
