Frankly, it's weirding me out, and it makes me wonder why Nacho is completely ignoring it.
Tom could come in the game and write all of his posts in Chinese and I wouldn't question it; occasionally he likes switching up his style, I do the same sometimes, I'm usually entertained by it and it isn't anything close to alignment indicative. Why would I be bothered by it?
I think RVS would be more exciting if there were more votes on Regfan and if you weren't such a grumpy old man all the time.
Typhrous, don't feel too hurt by hardcore Vaimes putting you down, you're in good company. I even changed my title and sacrificed myself all for him and still I'm chopped liver.
Typhrous, don't feel too hurt by hardcore Vaimes putting you down, you're in good company. I even changed my title and sacrificed myself all for him and still I'm chopped liver.
Typhrous, don't feel too hurt by hardcore Vaimes putting you down, you're in good company. I even changed my title and sacrificed myself all for him and still I'm chopped liver.
Pretty sure you changed your title when you were getting me lynched, you butt.
Typh is pinging me, and not in a good way. I'm not seeing the questions, the poking, the desire to figure things out that I've seen from Town!Typh, I'm seeing someone trying to be fun, and that's more indicative of scum!Typh.
Although to be fair there's been very little solving from anyone yet. People are just existing, and that includes quite a lot of town.
Newcomb, hey Newcomb. I get that you're changing your playstyle. And that you're busy. I'm not expecting the Newcomb of old. But while posting just memes is not a scum tell for you, the lack of words is kind of. Not a town tell, either.
Like that post is pretty much "Ty is doing xyz and that's scummy, but literally everyone else is doing the same xyz. Also Newcomb is committing a nulltell."
So I know almost no one here's meta but I don't like the amount of memes flying around. Seen scum hide behind memes more times than not. Newcomb's doesn't bother me given it's a response to Vaimes, but not as much a fan of what Typ and Nacho are doing. Tom... Well I read the game where Tom posted an entire game in flavour text, so I got nothing there.
EBWODP I'm at work and took forever to type that post, Tom's 56 is much more straight forward and since Tom is one of the few players I know of (Barebones is a good read) that scares me.
@Mod - Could we please get a specific deadline / phase length update in the OP or is this actually unlimited phase lengths?
Been looking forward to getting to this all day, know most players here from either MafiaScum, DailyMafia or DLP.
Think Nachos early pressure push on me starting in #5 comes across as town, looks like him attempting to get a read on me in a similar manner he's done Pie in the past - pretty sure it was in the Wedding Invitational albeit that didn't end all that well from memory. Think he'd be less likely to be as brazen re; pocketing attempts as scum like he was in #18 and liked his response to Vaimes about Tom in #52. Actually feel pretty good about him being town here.
I liked Typhons reaction towards Nachos comment re; Xequal in #20, comes across as him being fairly comfortable with the situation which I wouldn't expect from him if he drew scum in a playerlist of this calibre but admittedly that's based on fairly limited and mostly self-meta from him.
Ophida popping in earlier to comment solely on the mods avatar and that he'll vote later to proceed to ignore everything that happened and throw a RVS(?) vote on Vaimes for reasoning that could be attributed to others looks like a really forced entrance in the game; it's the type of entrance I see scum use significantly more often.
Vote: Ophidia
@Newcomb - Sell me on Vaimes alignment; I actually like his focus on Orphidas vote on him (Touched on it above) but his interaction with Tom isn't great and given he's aware that Toms trying a more 'logical' (Newcombesque) playstyle from his comments in SVH's dead QT the angle doesn't come across as genuine from him.
Would have posted links but this is probably the most I'll get away with doing while at work.
I used that entrance because I don't know y'all and I have little idea about the in-jokes that you have. I am relatively new to this game and I am trying to mimic other players to get a hang of the game. It is hard for me to come up with a funny/not-forced entrance this game, as I don't understand where most of the RVS votes come from.
The first post is there because I just woke up today and found out that the game has already started and that everybody confirmed except for me. So I kinda did a filler post to show that I am here. I just woke up so I don't have a PC with me and I can't bold words on mobile.
Yeah, hopefully this is a good enough explanation for you, Reg.
Also English is not my first language. Should have said it much earlier in other games too.
@Vaimes - Did you read my entire post before responding or the section based solely around you only? Because I'd find it difficult to buy you saw, read & responded to the entire post within two minutes. Given you're still voting Nacho did my elaborated town read on him change your opinion on him at all?
@Ophidia - I can understand the reasoning behind your first post existing if you were the only non /confirm in the game and have no issue with that. My issue stems from your vote on Vaimes and lack of comment on anything that had occurred. Do you have any reads / thoughts on the game at the moment? If so what are they? And I don't think you got to it yet but what specifically prompted you to voting Vaimes over the other names? Oh and your English seems fine, certainly better than Tammys.
(I've decided this is the game where I ***** talk Tammy knowing she's reading this with her not being able to do anything about it).
Like that post is pretty much "Ty is doing xyz and that's scummy, but literally everyone else is doing the same xyz. Also Newcomb is committing a nulltell."
Your post isn't even that long. It's a question to the mod, mentioning you know people, reasons for townreading Nacho and Ty, scumreading Ophidia, and asking Newcomb about me.
I probably could have skimmed the entire first page in two minutes.
Vaimes, tom is doing a Thing. It's a classic tom thing in that it's not alignment indicative but does add an intentional layer of fakeness to him that's kind of baked in, which is annoying, but. I kind of approve of what he's doing anyway, or at least at this point am pretty interested to see how long he can keep it up.
Also it's just... kind of funny just in general.
Oh, and it's not Mal he's imitating. It's someone else.
Vaimes is the top poster by a significant margin at this point, which means I'm putting... basically no energy into reading him. I liked the Ophidia focus as well, but kind of mildly, in a "general towniness" sense and not a Vaimes specific one, if that makes sense. I got a slightly stronger, Vaimes-specific town ping off his "Yeah, I'm not really in the mood for games within a game. Try again later" comment to tom, which is a level of snark that I associate with town!Vaimes.
Vaimes is the one player in this game who I'm fully confident I'll have a strong read on by the end of the Day, so I'm really not suuuuper motivated to try to force a read at the moment. Which kind of dovetails into some more general meta stuff I'm hoping to change this game, which is to kind of be okay with letting reads come when they come.
TL;DR, town until proven otherwise, wouldn't lynch toDay, but it's Vaimes. I never want to lynch him D1 unless he's obvious scum, which he isn't here.
Anyway, Newcomb, it was clear the first time, because you have such a way with memes.
---
I'll thought dump for a bit, because I can't be bothered taking notes elsewhere and reflecting on them later.
My serious vote on Nacho was for [redacted] reason, which I will not get elaborate on until later. His townread on Typhrous is iffy.
tom is a weirdo but his shtick 100% makes sense given the obschat from the game I've already had surgically removed from my memories (I haven't reread it but I'm going to assume Reg isn't going to lie about publicly available information). That will be factored into my eventual shrugread of him.
No one has really done anything that I'd slot them as anything other than null right now, except Grapefruit. He's a townread. I imagine someone will ask me why; go ahead and hold off on that. Ophidia had his weird RVS, but it's not something I'm really feeling comes from one alignment over the other.
Getting an unaligned feeling from Ty and xequalsy, unless they're huge goobers trying to distance by pretending Ty doesn't recognize him. Just something of note.
I probably won't lynch Newcomb and Regfan as long as they keep being entertaining, so if you guys are looking for an easy way to pocket me, there you are.
Think Nachos early pressure push on me starting in #5 comes across as town, looks like him attempting to get a read on me in a similar manner he's done Pie in the past - pretty sure it was in the Wedding Invitational albeit that didn't end all that well from memory. Hmmm Newcomb saying he doesn't want to bother with reading Vaimes twice in a post analzying Vaimes' behaviour is a bit off to me. I agree with his opinion of Vaimes feels towny but not enough info to be sure, but I dislike not owning the read. Newcomb why bother with digging into Vaimes' posts and giving a read if you're so sure Vaimes will sort himself out later in the day?
@Tom I've played in 4 games on Myanimeist after Proph recruited me for a game he was modding there. Also played a bunch of IRL mafia but that is a whole different animal and I've found slightly harmful to forum play.
EBWODP I'm at work and took forever to type that post, Tom's 56 is much more straight forward and since Tom is one of the few players I know of (Barebones is a good read) that scares me.
Grapefruit is town.
This nuance in a null/paranoia read is not something even very experienced players would think to fake as scum.
Nacho is probably town as well, but with some rather specific reservations.
See two people town reading me off one post of content is not something I feel great about.
I mean I am town, but when I give a relevant meta dump as my reference on tom I think my inexperience goes a bit out the window. I am new, but I have done the legwork and prep and am not a total noob. I've read games of Tom's where he plays mostly straight as town and scum, but this feels like an opportunistic read to gain town cred. Vaimes (for presumably the same reason) wanted to sit on his read a bit longer and see if it bore fruit before sharing his work, while Tom happily reached for an "easy" town read to gain town cred. I don't like it at all.
I'll be able to get to this properly in a few hours when I get to a laptop but most certainly don't agree with the Tom vote, I actually follow his thought process and agree with it re; his grapefruit read and that's a real rarity.
See two people town reading me off one post of content is not something I feel great about.

My serious vote on Nacho was for [redacted] reason, which I will not get elaborate on until later. His townread on Typhrous is iffy.
If the townread is iffy because it's not strong enough, then I feel obligated to point out that it was a joke to Tammy, who townreads people who make her laugh. If it's iffy for another silly reason, carry on.
How strong do you think the two town reads you commented on you are? What are your thought on Vaimes?
I'm not seeing why Tom is necessarily being opportunistic in his approach, he reasoned out his thought process - it's another thing entirely if you disagree with how he reached it more than it being based on just the one post.
@Xequalsy Since a third person has jumped on board with that read I'm going to assume it's a fairly strong read. And my opinion on Vaimes hasn't changed since 80.
Re tom being opportunistic: just because a read is well progressed doesn't mean it isn't opportunistic. Giving a town read doesn't advance the game state, and it's main purpose would be to try and earn town cred and it's more important to be town read as scum than town.
I also just really don't like the way that knowing I've played four games was enough for him, without knowing anything about those games. Meta disclosure I've not rolled scum yet, but the first thing I would do is be paranoid and lean on meta. Gives me an out to avoid actually reading the game. I get that people are town reading me for that, so I won't argue it's a town tell, I just don't like how quickly tom ran with that read. I had a grand total of 4 posts when tom dropped that read.
@Nacho good luck, you're going to need it.
PS @Xequalsy this site sucks on mobile. I have to click links like three times to follow them.
Grapes crosspost with my initial post in #59 and #60 come across as town, particularly the "that scares me" element to it and I liked that Tom picked up on that. I similarly think his reaction towards being town read in #82 is super unlikely to come from scum; don't think newer scum question and are suspicious of those that town read them, they'd pretty willing-fully take the town reads.
@Von - Yeah, the post I made looked a lot longer on my phone; didn't look plausible to read in that time frame but now that I'm at a laptop that's fair. What particularly about my Nacho town read do you disagree with (Other than y'know the read part)?
@Newcomb RE #70; Fair, agree with most of your assessment of Von there and am going to take my time locking a read on him this game.
I probably won't lynch Newcomb and Regfan as long as they keep being entertaining, so if you guys are looking for an easy way to pocket me, there you are.
I don't think anyone has ever used that read on me in the past, I've seen the opposite used in that Mollie and a few others at MS have stated that as scum I'm often 'nicer' since I don't fake the frustration or stubbornness when wanting answers that I do as town at times but never had entertaining associated with town or at least 'wanting to keep around' before, first time for everything I guess?
@Tom - I've played two games with Nacho where he's been scum; one I replaced into the game as an Innocent Child so probably not a good reference point re; how he treats me as such and the other I replaced in fairly early on D1 in Newbie #1634 where his partner and him got kind of stomped, he never really attempted to push me or 'sort' me that game from memory.
@Delphine RE; Tom - I find that mindmelding early on about reads is a relatively decent town-tell; his explanation behind his read on Grapes mirrors mine fairly closely. What's your thoughts and reads this game thus far? Really want to hear more reads from you in-thread this game.
I tried putting myself in the shoes of the vastly entertaining and dashingly handsome Regfan, reading Nacho's "pressure push" on him, and coming away with any kind of townlean out of it (both on Regfan and Nacho). And I didn't! This read seems way too wordy for a townie to have, at this point in the game, and most of these players should be held to a much higher standard of towniness than anything Nacho has done so far.
Agree, disagree? Don't overthink it, just whatever feelings jump out at you.
(I think he meant post #8, since xequalsy wrote post #5.)

I did not analyze people because people were mostly posting memes or making jokes, which is hard to analyze for me. Now we are starting to post real content, and my analysis will be there.
I am at school right now, so I can't post much. Will get more content done in the afternoon.
However, I think that you and I could get off on a considerably better foot if we started voting the same person; in particular, the only person who deserves death before they actually start posting. Are you game?
Vote: Regfan
I dunno. What's in it for me if as you say he's hilarious when mislynched? He needs to start posting to be entertaining!
Well of course; it's not like we'd be able to get him mislynched immediately as entertaining as it would be. Rome wasn't built in a day and this Regfan mislynch isn't going to come from nothing. It's going to take hard work and a lot of dedication and unfortunately much more reading and listening than I would like.
I feel that from a scum mindset, scum!nacho might be too cautious to make this post. Could be wrong tho, since the analysis is from a noob mindset. More experienced players should be able to play more recklessly.
Nacho asked me what kind of answer I was expecting. And the answer to that is an explanation that doesn't have to be dragged out of you, to see what you're willing answer on your own, without me having to hold your hand. I'm very curious as to what finally inspired you to type like a grownup and not clown around. Frankly, it's weirding me out, and it makes me wonder why Nacho is completely ignoring it.
And I'm also curious as to why you expect me to answer your questions when you don't even acknowlesge mine. I don't ask them for kicks.
You asking me things about Nacho that kind of imply you /think/ I should be suspicious of him when I'm already voting for him also kind of pinged negatively. Can't really explain it, and it probably doesn't mean anything right now.
I want Ophidia's reasons for highlighting me in particular out of a category containing three other people (those he's familiar with). Because if he's going to vote for a familiar face, why mine specifically? What separates me from tom and Iso in his mind? Is what I'm looking for.
I'm also kind of already disappointed in this game. I was expecting a more fun RVS, but all the cool people have yet to show up.
Anything else you want me to do for you that you aren't willing to do in return?
Iso has not yet posted, and I never played with tom. I just know who he is.
Re tom being opportunistic: just because a read is well progressed doesn't mean it isn't opportunistic. Giving a town read doesn't advance the game state, and it's main purpose would be to try and earn town cred and it's more important to be town read as scum than town.

What you're missing is the very purpose of this playstyle I've stolen the way I play is to find town.
A town circle is a very powerful thing, and you are in it now.
There's a vast difference between "this person has a high wordcount per post ratio" and "this read at this time by this person is too detailed to make sense or be convincing."
But you'd all be a lot cooler if you posted a bit more!
Tom could come in the game and write all of his posts in Chinese and I wouldn't question it; occasionally he likes switching up his style, I do the same sometimes, I'm usually entertained by it and it isn't anything close to alignment indicative. Why would I be bothered by it?

I might not be recalling any specific promises tom made in the obschat; just the vague "what if we pretended to be other players."
That makes more sense now.

Damn. I was hoping to keep 100% meming for a while. I should never doubt the clarity of my memes.
Semi-serious question.
I understand you have played elsewhere.
Can you talk for a moment about your experience?
How has he approached you as scum?
Anyone in particular? Or more an amalgamation?
(Can confirm, your English is far superior to Tammy's.)
Also looking forward to his Pozzai interactions.
Mm, that was pretty funny. Probably better with the full context, but.
Too bad, I was kinda hoping to catch you linking two similar players together with no differentiation a la MM7 me and Acio.
And yes, I do remember every single thing you've ever done as mafia, Vaimes.
Why are you looking for gotchas and making postcount reads on page 2?
@Tom I've played in 4 games on Myanimeist after Proph recruited me for a game he was modding there. Also played a bunch of IRL mafia but that is a whole different animal and I've found slightly harmful to forum play.

Help me out with a potential thing.

More of an amalgamate.
I did not analyze people because people were mostly posting memes or making jokes, which is hard to analyze for me. Now we are starting to post real content, and my analysis will be there.
I am at school right now, so I can't post much. Will get more content done in the afternoon.
hahahahahaha
I feel that from a scum mindset, scum!nacho might be too cautious to make this post. Could be wrong tho, since the analysis is from a noob mindset. More experienced players should be able to play more recklessly.
Iso has not yet posted, and I never played with tom. I just know who he is.
What you're missing is the very purpose of
this playstyle I've stolenthe way I play is to find town.A town circle is a very powerful thing, and you are in it now.
Yeah, I get the impression Vaimes hasn't played with Reg before.
@Ophidia
Keep going on that Nacho read.
What do you think of him impulsively discrediting Vaimes' read on the person he's ostensibly trying to lynch?
