Avalon Mafia does not follow conventional Mafia rules. Here are the rules of Avalon Mafia:
* There are no Day/Night phases in this game. Instead, there are 5 Quest phases.
* During the beginning of the Quest phase, a player will be chosen from the top of the playerlist. The following players sequentially on the playerlist will be the next people to suggest a Quest, and so on. The playerlist will be shuffled before the game begins in interest of fairness. The chosen player will suggest a party of players to go on a Quest. Every player will vote in the thread as to whether or not that are okay with that team. If the majority votes against it, the next player sequentially will be selected to propose a questing party. If a questing party is not accepted 5 times in a row, the evil team wins.
* The number of players that will be in the party depends on the Quest phase. In Quest 1, the number of players will be 3. In Quest 2, the number of players will be 4. In Quest 3, the number of players will be 5. Quests 4 & 5 will have 6 players in the questing party.
* Once a questing party has been selected, each member of the questing party will anonymously submit "Pass/Fail" to the game host via PM. If all of the submissions are "Pass", the Quest will succeed. If 1 or more of the submissions is "Fail" for the first three Quests, the Quest will fail. Afterwards, a Quest will require 2 "Fail" submissions to fail.
* The good guys win when 3 Quests have passed and Merlin is alive.
* The bad guys win when 3 Quests have failed or Merlin is dead.

Shockwave has not shown up, so I will seek a replacement for him.
Mindreaver will begin the game as our chooser for Quest 1.
It is now Quest Phase 1. Mindreaver has 7 days to choose a Questing party of 3, which everyone will then vote on within 72 hours. Remember that no submission is equivalent to a Pass. If Mindreaver fails to choose a team, the next person in sequential order will have 6 days to choose one, and so on.

Hmm... 0 for 2 on first responses. Take a stab at why I want to quest with you. And you have one more chance to answer a question right on the first try:
WHAT...is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
Shadow, I have an observation, but first I must ask (and this is serious, please answer seriously): Did you read the roles/rules before you posted this?
Can I nominate shockwave, and then he's an auto-pass?
Cheeee HOOOOO! We are live! I think this is a great idea, but I don't think it will work because SW will be replaced if inactive. I've been trying to wrap my ahead around this format for a while now and I'm still not sure the best strategy. First and foremost, I think there should never be a quest that fails without scum on the team. I need to go back and re-read the wincons, BRB
@Cantrip: I read them. I also know that claiming is safe because no assassin in their right mind would actually believe me, despite me being Merlin.
I don't appreciate the phrasing of your question, because if I hadn't read the rules and answered that honestly, then I'd be pretty well screwed. Fortunately I did, so I'm not.
Ok, so it requires 3 passes and a living Merlin to win. The worst chances to pass quests are the first three. That means we need to be certain that there are no scum in the first three quests. If we even let 1 scum into quest 4 or 5, it's ok because they need two fails to kill the quest.
Here's the next thing. It's much harder for scum to win because they need to kill Merlin, IN ADDITION to nerving three quests. So absolutely in no circumstances should Merlin EVER claim... until two quests have succeeded and even at that point it needs to be with caution because Mordred can appear as town.
How long do we have until we decide who goes on Quest 1?

Yeah I think the game is actually stacked against us for the most part. The scum team is almost 50/50, and a Merlin hail Mary kill at the end will override good play.
But I have been thinking a lot about how to play, and I'd love it if people who have played this before stared some strats.
Since Merlin knows the scumteam, to find Merlin, scum are pretty much going to have to look for people who propose quests of all town, getting worse the more members required. So the best thing Merlin can do, and i can't tell if early is better than later on (ie, we should go for easy quest completes early on with the smaller teams, and maybe throw one around 5 members; or is it better to throw a 3 man team down the tubes to solidify not-merlin), would be to nominate a team that will fail. I know that might sound ridiculous, but it'll make Merlin-finding a lot harder.
Probably another good thing would be to disclose such a plot, in order to introduce WIFOM about the people proposing teams and the Merlin relationship. Check. Done.
I had considered all the knights should claim Merlin, like shadow did. But without flips, it's really hard to know what to believe. Something more subtle would be better, IMO.
@Cantrip: I read them. I also know that claiming is safe because no assassin in their right mind would actually believe me, despite me being Merlin.

Forgive the phrasing, please. I asked for two reasons: one, I just left an open 17-player game on MafiaUniverse with CRAZY complex rules, including a clause that gave EVERY player a vest that protected against the vig kill, a vest that protected against the vig kill or the SK kill, and a rebreather that protected against the mafia's NK by drowning (each one with a 1-night/day phase one-time use). D1 we lynched Town. N1 four town died via game mechanics, and two town and one scum died because they didn't post at least 15 times during the 36-hour day period (I was one of them). Day 2 someone mentioned the vests/rebreather and--no kidding--over half of the remaining 9 players went "what vests/rebreathers?" Turns out that it's pretty common on that site to NOT read the rules and just play mafia. I know there are some on this site that do that, too. I figured you may have had the same thought process, even with a smaller ruleset.
Reason one tl;dr: I'm salty because I assumed that reading the rules was a thing that people did (I joined the game BECAUSE of the setup/rules), and my team is really on the ropes because possibly all those townies didn't read the rules either (+ I got modkilled for "inactivity").
Reason two: I wanted to hear it from your lips (as it were) so that I could confirm that you were being intentional. I feel that your opening post is strongly more likely to come from town rather than scum.
Oh I'm going ton a damn quest. Convince me you're squire material.
Well I am Merlin, so for this quest you're gonna need me to stand in the back and tell the balrog it shall not pass. Because if it doesn't, we do, and then we win.
