Seriously that's not even playing mafia, that's throwing a dart and going 'success' no matter where it lands. It disrespects the game of mafia. You can do better than that, Goblin.
I am not, no. Is he an infamously poor player who gives no effort or something?

So Cyan being all like 'puddle is obviously scummy' confuses me. Pick it up, Cyan.
How can that be confusing? It is a flat statement of reality, is incredibly linear and easily understood, etc. I'm not sure it could be any LESS confusing. If you are saying that you are the third person who doesn't understand(or pretends not to) why Pink is so scummy, then I guess I can lay it out for you guys. But color me disappointed with having to explain 'How to Mafia 101' in a League game.
Generic gives an adequate reason for an early game vote on Pink. Pink responds with:
[/quote]
Why Generic, you say you don't play games, yet is that not what mafia is? My name is my own, and perhaps we have met and perhaps we have not and perhaps I am happy to piss you off...
vote Generic[/quote]
This might be the OMGUS-iest vote ever. And the continued coy 'maybe we know each other and maybe we don't but I just want to antagonize you' is completely anti-town play. So, total post summation: Super scummy.
next..
Rhand, are you supposing that me and Generic planned this little back and forth?
Who the **** asks this kind of question as town? Even if Rhand hadn't thought of that, he is going to now. This is a scum trying to figure out where they stand, and showing their own guilty conscience in the process.
And now we're caught up to where I voted. Super enlightening, right? Not really. This all should have been obvious. Consider me really disappointed in you guys right now.
Messed up my quote tag. Oh well, you can figure it out. Also, I would say that 2 of the following 3 are scum(probably not all 3): Pink, Killjoy, GG in order of scumminess.
Just wondering why you seem distraught that someone who is looking like scum has basically offered himself on a silver platter.
I tend not to read a few posts, go "well this person is 100% scum time to wrap it up" without further thought. Bad play from town can easily be misconstrued as scum play. It is vital to explore the play and see where it leads.
Ah, Cyan is breaking out the Mafia 101 textbook, fantastic. I don't have to be nice to this guy, then.
*Busts the Mafia 801 textbook, 6th edition, with foreword from myself*
Well you see junior, while you're studying from the basic book of this game we play, I on the other hand prefer to have a more broad approach. First off, when someone expresses confusion about why I do something it is not in my nature, for example, to go on a self-indulgent pat on the back fest about how poor my fellow players are and I would, in fact, explain myself clearly and see how they respond to that. But apparently mafia 101 over here has taught you that along with the feeble knowledge that I am SURE you deem impressive about this game we are playing you must insult and deride your fellow players. That got tossed out in like 201, and you are really behind the times.
So let's talk about mafia. In my experience, which I would consider vast if imperfect, I have seen many town throw down OMGUS votes. Many. It is illogical and I'd rather it never happen, but it's there. OMGUS votes are a detriment to the game I believe but on the other hand they are not a good predictive indicator of someone's alignment. You will learn that in third year, I hope you are taking notes. Now, again from my experience, scum do not usually become openly coy about such things with such wanton glee in what I believe is some sort of joke phase I find in the couple of games I've been here. Maybe different for league games, but considering the level of content on the first couple of pages it seems to fit right in.
Now the profile you put of Puddle is one of very novice scum play. The flags you raised can be seen as scummy, certainly, but to me they contrast with the fact that he expressed disappointment with the lack of votes. That to me would be something only someone very comfortable in their mafia skin would say, and really conflicts horribly with the picture you try to paint.
I am pretty sure before this game is over every single person in this game is going to have a post or two that can be looked at and thought of as scummy. It happens in every game. Good mafia players learn to watch the entire game. Bad ones lynch a lot of town gleefully.
Now maybe you're scum just doing your job. Maybe you're town who doesn't realize that rubbing people the wrong way with a brash attitude is a good way for people to be against you even when your opinion is right, and is thus horribly anti-town behavior, far beyond what puddle did. I don't know which yet.
As for 'who the **** asks this kind of question as town?' I do. I do it all the time. Town has every bit the right to see where people stand on them as a scum does, even moreso considering it is a town's job to attempt to expose scum, and IF they are town it is often true that if they are being trained scum will be on it. It's a wise question.
I can just tell we are going to have a lot of fun together, Cyan. But how about we leave the theatrics in the past and just focus on scum hunting?

Yeah I don't need lessons from you, thanks. We seem to be in agreement that OMGUS votes, when they are not justified(and this one flatly is not), are bad. And you're right, of course town OMGUS. They probably do so more than scum, just based on sheer numbers. That doesn't mean that scum aren't guilty of this. And Pink's OMGUS looks thoroughly scummy. I'm also not buying the 'inexperienced town' excuse for a player that came from another site AND had the wherewithal to use a screen name that is different from her traditional one in order to have a new identity. There are plenty of players that are experienced but are just bad at being scum. For whatever reason, they just never become good at it. That certainly seems more likely to me here than the alternative.
And if you are sincerely saying that you would ask a question like that as town, then...yeah I don't know what to tell you, other than 'you shouldn't. Questions like that literally just make a person look worse. Is it possible for a townie to ask these questions? Sure. But it is MUCH more likely for a scum to do so, especially if they're panicky(which Pink certainly seemed to be at that point).
Hey now, I was just describing the post and even offered encouragement for him to do better going forward, Cyan was all like 'you guys depress me, SIGH let me explain.'
Life is in the details, Generic. ... That sentence comes off so wrong. But yes admittedly I can be harsh in my rebuke, on the other hand if Goblin does not play better and put forth effort I won't really have to have his support in lynching him. Note when I attack someone I am specific, while cyan is more broad and thus paints a broad stroke against many players, a lot of whom will surely be town. That's the difference. I do have some smudges on me though, I am not always nice.
I won't mention mafia 801 again if you don't mention mafia 101 again, it's a promise Cyan.
As for behavior... really I am not a big fan of broad indicators of town and scum behavior. "You shouldn't, it makes you look bad" yeah it can and I have gotten some heat on this site at times for the way I do things but part of playing mafia is to be able to deal with the heat, especially as town. I don't think we should restrict the things we say, just have the understanding that it can come off wrong and have a good idea where you are coming from.
I'd like to see more from Puddle, but right now we disagree on the outcome. You could in fact be right and I am just not seeing it yet, but given that we're not too far into day one and I am voting for someone who has apparently given up on anything other than puddle, I have a vested interest in exploring options.

So you're setting up another mislynch after you get pink derphammered?

Cyan can be pretty brash when he is unimpressed with someone's play. I've been on the receiving end of it before. You can't take it personally, and he does it as both alignments.
Cyan seems relatively townie. I don't understand the pushes on him; he's one of those players that doesn't like giving reasoning. If you're voting him for that you're wrong, if you're voting him for something else I'd love to hear it.
Heres my thinking. If Pink is scum we look to the people who initially defended pink or tried to divert attention to a third party. If pink is town we look to those who started the whole pink bandwagon. I know this isn't perfect strategy but no one has said anything yet that strikes me as inherently scummy. Day 1 some rando gets killed more often than not. I'm sorry that the lynch mob started in on someone largely because of a crap avatar but I think its the best bet.

I apologize a bit since I've been looking to use that image somewhere for a long time now. But really, you can say you're an 800 level mafia player but I don't believe it until I see 800 level play.
And I'm not seeing 800 level play. Especially because calling yourself an 800 level player is not 800 level play.
Great image, although one small thing: I was being very, very tongue in cheek. I literally said 'mafia 801' after chastising him for bringing up mafia 101. I mean I have been told my sense of humor is weird, but I thought that was a bit obvious there. I mean, mafia 801? What does that even mean. That entire post was basically addressing him much the same way he addressed me, thus my line at the end. Also I said I wrote a foreword for an imaginary book. Come on... lol.
Then again I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, my cheekiness gets me into trouble often.

Pink has reacted like caught scum in every way imaginable, literally from the moment that she responded to Generic's vote on her. Hurrah for short RVS. Vote Pink
So firstly, the above is hyperbole of Pink's actions. He's holding them up as self-evidently scum - but at that point in the game I don't think her actions were self-evidently scummy. They were debatably scummy.
The main points were:
Voted mod RVS
Trying to keep Generic from knowing who she was
Reaction vote to Generic
The first point Cyan didn't reference so we'll ignore it for the purposes of this (and it's a soft tell). I actually viewed her #20 at the time as thinking she was more likely to be town because of it. Most of the time when people play with gimmicks the point is that they don't want people to know who they are, and I didn't (and still don't) get the thought process behind what Generic was saying in that he thought she was scum because he thought she was a specific player avoiding him, and the color she used when she voted him was purple so that was evidence that she was who he said she was... so if she was trying to avoid him because she was worried he'd catch her, why use a purple font to tip her hand? It's saying that they're trying to avoid you but they're also doing something to make you more likely to think it's them, which seemed off.
I also thought it unlikely that she'd intentionally draw so much attention to herself after taking the early scrutiny both with the vote of Generic (because when people OMGUS they usually try to assert that the other player is scum because of their actions... and she said she was trying to piss him off, so there isn't much sound scum strategy being used there because it just draws focus to her) and how she did it (with the color).
So there were things she was doing that could be suspicious, but I certainly didn't think that they made her obviously scum, actually thought more likely the contrary, and I was more interested in why other people on the wagon were so convinced - because I didn't think the logic of the last two points added up.
Point being that it wasn't so cut and dry that it didn't merit discussion.
Pinks' scumminess in responding to Generic was extremely obvious. If you can't figure it out by reading it, you're not going to understand it after I explain it either.
What's the point in pushing back here? The last part is just untrue - Cyan's second point below, which I'll get to, is something that I hadn't considered. So there could be value to his perspective that someone hadn't considered, which he is well aware of. The mindset behind thinking that someone is obviously scum but being unwilling to explain why a first time is not town. If he was town and thought that Pink was obv scum and that most other players were thinking in the same that he was, I could see him placing a vote with relatively little explanation - but after that Fulcrum and tn were obviously trying to better understand his thought process.
So, if townCyan thought that Pink was scum and was getting questioned about his reasons, it doesn't make sense that he'd choose that time to bristle. It would make sense that he would explain his rationale so that he could convince more people to lynch the player he thought was obviously scum, because he would want to lynch that player.
Instead, he was sure that this player was scum, was pushing back on explaining why, and then was condescending/indignant about why other people didn't see it as well, despite not explaining what he saw.
I just replaced into CT3 with Cyan, where he bused Azrael out of the gate when other people were onto him (Azrael), with a similar approach of saying that he was obviously scum, not putting much effort into explaining why, and then expressing frustration that other people didn't see how obvious it was. I recommend taking a look at that game, but basically he spent much of the time confidently saying that Azrael was scum and chastizing others for not seeing it without putting nearly as much effort into explaining why he was scum.
So the below is the first part of #88 but the quote breaks won't pull the whole post when I quote it so I'll talk to the res of it:
So Cyan being all like 'puddle is obviously scummy' confuses me. Pick it up, Cyan.
How can that be confusing? It is a flat statement of reality, is incredibly linear and easily understood, etc. I'm not sure it could be any LESS confusing. If you are saying that you are the third person who doesn't understand(or pretends not to) why Pink is so scummy, then I guess I can lay it out for you guys. But color me disappointed with having to explain 'How to Mafia 101' in a League game.
Generic gives an adequate reason for an early game vote on Pink. Pink responds with:
The first part of this is playing dumb and also being indignant/trying to condescend/cow his questioners. The statement itself obviously wasn't the confusing part, the confusing part was clearly why he thought he could just say it was obvious and be done with it. Partly because of what I mentioned above in that he should want to be convincing about his read, and also because Cyan should know that people are going to want to know why he's reading the game as he is so that they can read him. This attempts to position himself above scrutiny (which is also the same tact used when brushing off fulcrum and tn's questions) by saying that his read should be obvious and by feigning disappointment in others for not understanding this on their own.
This is a sneaky psychological tact because it plays to people's desire not to look dumb so that they'll want to prove their merit and agree with him. By chastising people's skill and pretending to be disappointed that they don't see what he does, he can both look unbothered by the questioning of him and take control of the conversation. But looking at that closer, is it really believable that Cyan would organically be so disappointed or disdainful or whatever that other people didn't immediately see what he did in Pink, especially after he didn't explain his rationale the first time? No, I don't think that's natural at all - and looking at his main two points for why he thought she was:
OMGUS of Generic - a debatable point that's not on its own innately obvious, and needs context.
but the second point about asking Rhand if she's supposing that she and Generic planned the back and forth definitely requires explanation and interpretation. I looked at that as probing Rhand because she thought it was ridiculous that he'd be trying to link her with Generic based on their interactions (and I would agree that I find it unlikely that both pink and Generic are scum based on the way he went after her and the line of questioning that he took) - but Cyan sees that point (one that hadn't previously been called out) an indication of nervousness, basically.
That might be a good point, but it certainly wasn't obvious in and of itself because I know that's not how I initially read it but also because no one else was harping at that point specifically, the focus was primarily on RVS and the way she voted Generic.
So, what then, was the town motivation for withholding that reasoning when questioned initially and is his incredulity believable that not everyone else would immediately interpret her actions in the way that he did? I don't think so, I think that he's using his scolding of others for not seeing how obv scum that Pink is as a defense mechanism while feeling the need to give good reasons (and one that I hadn't seen given) based on the pressure he was taking.
I also think that means Pink is more likely to be scum because I don't think he'd approach her in this way if she wasn't but, Cyan aside, Generic's point in response to her #49:
Only five votes, I feel let down guize. I expected to wake up with an intent to hammer over me.
Generic I will not tell you who I am or if I know you. It's because I am playing an alt and do not wish to give you clues. Others take note.
GoblinGrendier is prob scum, as is Cyan.
vote GoblinGrenadier
Strands how for someone who assumed I was RVS or frustration posting and couldn't possibly think I had caught scum on page one that you also thought you might now be on claim range or hammer range... How much influence do you think I have around here?
My vote is staying where isn't is for he time being, your posts are starting to fall apart again under scrutiny.
I agree that there's no way that she didn't think he was serious about his pressure on her based on her reaction which makes me think that she was lying to appear more casual about her initial responses to him, which makes me think she probably is scum.
@ the last Pink quote, uh... to take that at face value you also have to take at face value that she is literally disappointed about not being in such a range. I mean the second line is basically 'lol to hell with you lot' to me, which speaks of not being too worried. Yeah I just don't get that train of thought at all.

Can someone who was in Archer comment on whether Cyan bussed early in that game?
Great image, although one small thing: I was being very, very tongue in cheek. I literally said 'mafia 801' after chastising him for bringing up mafia 101. I mean I have been told my sense of humor is weird, but I thought that was a bit obvious there. I mean, mafia 801? What does that even mean. That entire post was basically addressing him much the same way he addressed me, thus my line at the end. Also I said I wrote a foreword for an imaginary book. Come on... lol.
Then again I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, my cheekiness gets me into trouble often.
As for mafia reminding you of therapy...I can see that, sure.

Seven posts in a row is unacceptable, Pink. I know Curse isn't good for multiquote but you should NEVER make more than 2 or in the most egregious cases 3 posts in a row. 7 is absurd.
Hey Pink, what do you think about Cyan in light of the information that Cyan not giving reasoning is within his general modus operandi for either alignment?

So, total post summation: Super scummy.
next..
I'mma pull out Juliet when I get a chance.
Hawk is painfully town.

And if you are sincerely saying that you would ask a question like that as town, then...yeah I don't know what to tell you, other than 'you shouldn't. Questions like that literally just make a person look worse. Is it possible for a townie to ask these questions? Sure. But it is MUCH more likely for a scum to do so, especially if they're panicky(which Pink certainly seemed to be at that point).
You seem to be asking all of the wrong questions.

This quote looks an awful lot like an acknowledgment that TN knows Pink is town. I'm willing to run up either TN or GG at this point, and feeling slightly better about Pink.
I don't know if you're new to Mafia or not, so serious question: do you know what RVS is?
I don't really see what you see there, on the surface at least, but the self-consciousness is evident. This kind of post would make me take a hard look at Generic if Pink flips scum at some point.
Cyan can be pretty brash when he is unimpressed with someone's play. I've been on the receiving end of it before. You can't take it personally, and he does it as both alignments.
I want Juliet! She's smart.
I'm suspicious of CitricBase.
Cyan seems relatively townie. I don't understand the pushes on him; he's one of those players that doesn't like giving reasoning. If you're voting him for that you're wrong, if you're voting him for something else I'd love to hear it.
Do you still not find anyone scum?
Are you planning on playing the game anytime soon?
Playing mafia reminds me of my therapist.
I apologize a bit since I've been looking to use that image somewhere for a long time now. But really, you can say you're an 800 level mafia player but I don't believe it until I see 800 level play.
And I'm not seeing 800 level play. Especially because calling yourself an 800 level player is not 800 level play.
Then again I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, my cheekiness gets me into trouble often.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I also think that means Pink is more likely to be scum because I don't think he'd approach her in this way if she wasn't but, Cyan aside, Generic's point in response to her #49:
I agree that there's no way that she didn't think he was serious about his pressure on her based on her reaction which makes me think that she was lying to appear more casual about her initial responses to him, which makes me think she probably is scum.
