Welcome to Pope Mafia, [playername]! You are [playername], Townie.
You hate Catholics. Yep, that's pretty much the reason.
You win when the mafia are dead.
Two players will receive the following PM:
Welcome to Pope Mafia, [playername]! You are [playername], Mafia Pope, along with your partner, [otherplayername]. The two of you may communicate in [quicktopic] at any time.
Each night, starting night 0, the mafia as a group may send me the names of one or two players. (You may not choose yourselves.) If you choose two players, each of those players will secretly receive 1 saint point. If you choose one player, that player will secretly receive 2 saint points.
Whenever a player is lynched, the last X people on that player's wagon will be killed, where X is the number of saint points that player had.
(Get it? You're making saints, so you're... popes... ah, **** it.)
You win when the number of living mafia equals the number of living town.
Other Rules:
1. Day 1 is deadlined for three weeks; subsequent days will last two weeks. Don't expect any extensions.
2. Failure to post for a consecutive 72 hours will result in a prod; next prod is a replacement or modkill.
3. The mafia win if at any time there are twelve or more saint points on living players.
The mafia have pointed out to me that it's possible for everyone to die simultaneously. To address that case, I'm going to rule that the mafia win if everyone dies (in addition to if they control the lynch).
So, let's start off the same way we did in Xyre's last game.
Firstly, I won't be claiming.
Secondly, everyone needs to answer the following questions. If you were a Pope, who would you turn into a Saint and why?
If you were a Pope, what would your strategy be for selecting targets?
I would probably turn the players I felt were stronger into Saints so that the Cyanosis paranoia would kick in and the "why is X still alive" argument would come into play. Nacho, Tan, and Karn are who I would probably go for.

I've been thinking about how we're going to handle wagons. Are we going to let a wagon build naturally, and then just have the scummiest player hammer? Or are we going to reorder wagons based on who's towniest? Or are we just going to let the wagons flow?

Vote: Wheat_Grinder for riding an automatic vacuum cleaner.
---------
Onto serious stuff.
The number of times I have seen no vote for first post scum tell, can't say I'm surprised with Tanarin's reaction. Karn's OGMUS vote, as I don't see how it can anything but, is something I am questioning right from the third post in! And not even half the people in the game have posted yet!
Since this game has no PRs and only scum really have special roles, claims are pointless. (Which I imagine why Oso posted like that.)
I'm uncertain about listing hypothetical Saint targets, but in the interest of discussion, I'd debate between iRebel and Wheat Grinder as they are two I have played games with and think that there is a chance of them going early before seeing how the Day plays out.
Secondly, everyone needs to answer the following questions. If you were a Pope, who would you turn into a Saint and why?
If you were a Pope, what would your strategy be for selecting targets?
Probably I'd hit newer players and players who get lynched easy. You don't really want to hit "X is still alive??" players because they won't be lynched until lategame and it's hard to reach the endgame without sanctity deaths. Therefore, you'd want to hit players with a good chance of dying early to midgame. I'd also make sure to spread around the sanctity.
@Wheat: Why are you continuing RVS after it's already clearly over?
You mean Tanarin and Karn? If so then me and my ten foot pole are making out on the other side of town. If you mean your post, I got nath'd and didn't see it because curse is dumb.
I've been thinking about how we're going to handle wagons. Are we going to let a wagon build naturally, and then just have the scummiest player hammer? Or are we going to reorder wagons based on who's towniest? Or are we just going to let the wagons flow?
I say we make a pecking order. I'm trying to think of the best way to do it so that it's something that can be kept track of. Perhaps split a vote into real vote, lynchvote, and hammervote?
Real votes are only used at the end of the day to cause the actual lynch, lynchvote is the pseudo "this is who I want lynched vote" which triggers the lynch at >50%, hammervote shows the reverse order of voters; whoever has the most hammervotes hammers, second most puts the lynchee to L-1, etc.
It's complicated but I think this setup warrants it. Someone may have to keep track of that if Xyre won't.

I've been thinking about this too. Reordering the entire wagon is going to be logistically difficult and should be unnecessary most of the time. Difficult because reordering a full Day 1 wagon means we have to agree on a lynch and agree on a scum/town order for at least 7 people and get those people to voluntarily switch around within the wagon. Unnecessary because we know how many maximum Saint points there are at any time. Day 1, the worst-case scenario is 2 saint points on one person, so we only need to ensure L-1 and the hammer are scum suspects. The worst case is if we go for one or two Days without lynching scum *and* without popping any Saint points - we might accumulate 4 or even 6 saint points on one person. Then we really need to be careful with the wagons. But for now, we can just worry about the last two.
I think if I was scum, I'd want to put saint points on town players that have a lot of scum suspicion. For Day 1, that would be people whose playstyle is known to often appear scummy even if they're town. Unfortunately, I don't see a way to counter that strategy apart from "be good at separating real scum from scum-looking town" which is something that we should be striving for anyway.
Karn: If you agree it's a scumtell, why are you pouncing on someone for voting for a scumtell?
Sensitive much? Dunno if you just admitted being scum, or are just that over-reactionary. Either way, I am comfortable with my vote right here. Much info can be gathered from this wagon.
@Iso: I have actually been thinking about this since I signed up (As I said there, like breaking things.) How I would do it is put the saint on the weakest players or players I could most likely get to implode in game. I would also be extra sure to make sure my buddy is well in the middle of a wagon as possible. That way he is not sent out to the pasture when the hammer falls. I also think scum would be likely to NOT lynch either of their targets Day 1 if they went with the one and one option, instead opting for a mislynch on them day 2 when they can eliminate 3-4 players in one go.
Using that criteria, I would opt for a sainting of iRebel and shockwave night one, and then night 2 place 2 points on either of them and Push their vote hardcore.
As for how to handle the lynch, I think day one we SHOULD be alright either A) forcing the scummiest person not being lynched to be the hammer, or B) Let the wagon progress naturally. Both methods will yield more info than babysitting the wagon ever will. Come day 2, we really do need to consider wagon lynch order though as the possibility of a 4 town death does exist.

I was about to post that lynching mafia D1 reduces it to 3 town deaths max, then I reread the opening post and realized that might not be true.
Mod: Could we get a clarification - if we lynch one Pope, does the other pope still get the ability to Saintify two people, or is it one saint per pope?
Phone ate my post. Let's see if I can remember it. I like Arch and Wheat already. I agree that Day 1's wagon should progress naturally and that afterwards, we should use a scumminess tier system.
What associative tells do you guys expect scum who can not NK to have?
I think we need to keep an eye on squeamish end-wagon voters.

Since Xyre will do FoS and votes both, I recommend vote top scum target but do not pass L-2, FoS second top scum target. If ever in doubt about the lynch threshold, FoS and indicate vote intention when you are sure you can. If a player is at L-2, FoS only.
What associative tells do you guys expect scum who can not NK to have?
I think we need to keep an eye on squeamish end-wagon voters.
Scum motivations as I see it:
1. It is INCREDIBLY dangerous to be even slightly scummy in this game type. Scum will be extra tryhard not to make a mistake.
2. I don't think squeamish end-wagon is necessarily a scum tell. Some wagons will be safe and therefore the scum won't be squeamish, and some town will be squeamish about sacrificing themselves for essentially no good reason from their point of view, depending on how they view the importance of their continued life.
3. Scum may or may not try to keep each other alive. I won't make a bet one way or another because I think it depends on the team.
4. Scum will preferentially lynch people with high sanctity.
5. Scum cannot allow many people to become widely considered town unless one of they themselves are among that number, because they will immediately lose by PoE.
By contrast, I think the easiest way for town to win is to figure out who cannot possibly be scum. Someone check my math, but all we need is 3 certain townies and we win. Through that logic, scum want to place one of themselves among the top 3 towniest players.

And finally:
Vote Karn
Beat me to the punch.
I would saint Sir Karn, two points, each night, up through Night 2 (so six total) and aggressively pursue his lynch Day 3 for the win if the other Pope was still alive. That way I can work on setting up Karn and win the game in one fell swoop.
I'll read the rest of the thread later tonight.

RVS: Vote Iso Because I declared this is mandatory for every game I play with him. And gosh darn it if you cause me to die D1 again for the lulz I am never playing Mafia with you again >_< Not that you didn't already know that.
On topic: Unvote

I'll read everything once I've done my RP posts, but posting for the sake of posting is dumb so I'll just leave this up unposted until I actually have something to say.
"(Which I imagine why Oso posted like that.)" 'Oso' made me lol. Thank you for this amazing nickname. He's going to hate me but idegaf.
...Eh just a lot of 'I agree with this' mostly. A natural first wagon + 'pecking order' wagons following seems legit, if I'm understanding this correctly.
For Oso's question, I'm bad at this game + I don't really know many people here really so I would saint Oso 'cause lulz. As for determining targets... Intuition =| Strictly that, since I don't know how to analyze wagons or how to set up mislynches later.
Speaking of Intuition, Iso's first post makes me want to believe he's scum, but nothing else does. -rereads- Just kidding, all of Iso's posts don't sit well with me. They feel Katawa Shoujou-y and not Majora's Mask-y.
Karn is town for Karn things. Karn don't make me vote you knowing you're town again I swear to god. I mean pope.
Not everyone has posted, no second person registers as 'scum' on my intuition.

iRebel; why would Karn be the choice for this role?

I meant in general @ analyze wagons. As scum I would want to be able to do towny things I would think? Also the new quoting system makes it hard for me to do my old thing with quoting and I don't like it ;_;
As for similarities blah blah blah I'll see what I can dig up.
Maybe I'm not the best judge of Karn because I have not been in a game with Scum!Karn so forget what I said about him; but from solely my experience he looks like he's doing his town thing @_@
Jey: Do you have any reasoning other than intuition for your reads?
Not at the current moment. Once I do Iso's bidding I'll have something more concrete to share. Or not. Katawa Shoujo I shot Iso out of intuition and in MM I followed him for the same reason o_o I'll still have myself a look.
I'll be honest, I expect you to find more similarities between this game and MM than this game and KS. But I have no problem using what you find as a sounding board for your own alignment.

Wheat, why disengage yourself from the main conflict?
Because my pole has a sexy mouth.
what is real reason
Are you implying the sexiness of my pole is not a good enough reason to make out with it
Real reason: I wanted to let it develop to more than "X is scummy" "I know, so you're the actual scum". That doesn't tell me ***** about alignments. If it wasn't Karn it would imply he was town, but Karn is gonna make that sort of post as either alignment so it's null.

Since we're only two pages into this game, The beginnings of both games is what feels relevant to me. I was reading posts deeper into the game and comparing made little sense after. -double checks- yup I'm satisfied with that I have linked.
I know some of this is an attack on me similarly to what's going on now, but similarly... hmm... I just get the vibe that Iso's doing the same thing here. I know that like... just because Iso is making a pushy "WE NEED TO DO THIS IF NOT EXPLAIN WHY NOT NOW" in both threads doesn't automatically make him scum, but I think the way its crafted reeks of the same mindset.
Posts from MM that are totally not similar:
Well... I was reading and there's very little of like... 'early game' before Iso makes his first longpost.
Iso isn't pushy, but making a draft order -makes sense-. This is just a conscious suggestion, nothing that needs to be disagreed with in any way, so it doesn't count toward his mindset, but I feel like the way this is crafted as well speaks differently than before - and not just because lack of pushiness.
That's all there really is before the game proceeds beyond a point that's incomparable. I guess his hostility is overall less, even though he seems like quite [phallus] in that longpost in MM, it's still less harsh overall imho.
Speaking of Intuition, Iso's first post makes me want to believe he's scum, but nothing else does. -rereads- Just kidding, all of Iso's posts don't sit well with me. They feel Katawa Shoujou-y and not Majora's Mask-y.

We both know that isn't how it works.
Did I seriously just do all of that work for nothing @_@ Can you explain why this is not how this works?
Thinking back, re-reading the games didn't give me much -evidence- to post per se, but it refreshed my feelings from those games. I definitely feel like Katawa Shoujo Iso is playing this game, regardless if I can prove it or not =\

Okay. And this is demonstrably not an indicator of scumIso. Observe:
If you were one of the Arsonists, who would your top 3 dousing targets be and why?
Ged, Nacho, and Wheat are my choices. Ged and Nacho because they're pretty good players, and Wheat because he'd seek my death out before the end of the game no matter what.
I had a few other questions I wanted to ask but Xyre said no posting, so I forgot them.
Quote from Iso »
Oh, I remember: If you were an Arsonist, what Day would you strike your match on?
This was from Xyre's last game, a similar open setup. I wanted to leave the hint there that I was going for a similar strategy at the beginning of this game - "So, let's start off the same way we did in Xyre's last game." - asking questions to see who gave fake responses, or who blatantly refused to answer them altogether because we caught ER in a similar fashion last game. ER declared that I was scummy for reason of "spelling out the Arsonist strategy for them" or something like that. What ER didn't understand was that my questions were a trap. I didn't expect anyone who was in Inflammable Mafia to fall for it, but someone such as yourself, who was not present, was fair game. My pushiness/hostility in a game is contingent not on my alignment but on how I choose to approach that game, in addition to how receptive to my ideas the playerbase is, as I tend to switch things up frequently between games - and I have stated this before in an OoG context. Finally, you state that it wasn't long before I made a wallpost in Majora's Mask...but not only have most of my posts in this game so far been from my phone, I literally state at the beginning of my first wallpost in Majora's Mask, "Reading what I missed." I missed ~60 posts and there was a lot of content to catch up on, including Zinger's Neutral claim and everyone's subsequent reactions to it. So far, there are only ~40 posts in this game so far, and a lot of them are spammy and contentless. Additionally, not everyone has posted yet, whereas in MM, a lot more people had posted and had a lot more to say. Finally, you can't say, "Well, Iso did X in a game as scum, so he must be scum here" because I can probably point to twice as many times I've done X as town.
Your argument is weak and fails to take into consideration the circumstances present in each game you reference. I can't see the town motivation in this fabricated push - especially not on such faulty premises.

Your argument is weak and fails to take into consideration the circumstances present in each game you reference. I can't see the town motivation in this fabricated push - especially not on such faulty premises.
But you forgot that I stated in the argument itself that it was weak, or that it didn't hold much merit, so you're telling me what I already said in my last post. -claps-

I'm a little angry, honestly. I hate when there's a cool setup and I get run up early because then I inevitably can't take part in the later parts of the game since I will inevitably be lynched on Cyanosis (or just plain Iso paranoia) or in more traditional setups, Nightkilled for my claim. It's incredibly frustrating, and my play overall lately has been very lackluster. Plus, in an open setup, I can't exactly claim something wacky to evade suspicion, so...really, it's just a *****ty situation to be in, town or scum. At this point, I'm demotivated and I don't see that changing unless the momentum shifts elsewhere.
It's not like me to be defeatist, but I hope some of you can understand where I'm coming from, since this almost always invariably happens to me.
Do what you will. Maybe I'll come back in a day and re-read and re-examine what we've seen to give last reads. Or whatever.

Vote: Tanarin
So, let's start off the same way we did in Xyre's last game.
Firstly, I won't be claiming.
Secondly, everyone needs to answer the following questions. If you were a Pope, who would you turn into a Saint and why?
If you were a Pope, what would your strategy be for selecting targets?
I would probably turn the players I felt were stronger into Saints so that the Cyanosis paranoia would kick in and the "why is X still alive" argument would come into play. Nacho, Tan, and Karn are who I would probably go for.
And finally:
Vote Karn

I've been thinking about how we're going to handle wagons. Are we going to let a wagon build naturally, and then just have the scummiest player hammer? Or are we going to reorder wagons based on who's towniest? Or are we just going to let the wagons flow?

Onto serious stuff.
The number of times I have seen no vote for first post scum tell, can't say I'm surprised with Tanarin's reaction. Karn's OGMUS vote, as I don't see how it can anything but, is something I am questioning right from the third post in! And not even half the people in the game have posted yet!
Since this game has no PRs and only scum really have special roles, claims are pointless. (Which I imagine why Oso posted like that.)
I'm uncertain about listing hypothetical Saint targets, but in the interest of discussion, I'd debate between iRebel and Wheat Grinder as they are two I have played games with and think that there is a chance of them going early before seeing how the Day plays out.
...dhockwave. Nice.
Thanks to Heroes of the Plane Studios for the sigpic.
Spider-Man Mafia 3 (Off-Site: NGA)

Probably I'd hit newer players and players who get lynched easy. You don't really want to hit "X is still alive??" players because they won't be lynched until lategame and it's hard to reach the endgame without sanctity deaths. Therefore, you'd want to hit players with a good chance of dying early to midgame. I'd also make sure to spread around the sanctity.
Players I'd hit: Bolly, iRebel, Nacho, Kamikaze.
You mean Tanarin and Karn? If so then me and my ten foot pole are making out on the other side of town. If you mean your post, I got nath'd and didn't see it because curse is dumb.
Oh yeah and because I just understood this,
ROOMBA ROOMBA ROOMBA ROOMBA ROOMBA

Mod: Could we get a clarification - if we lynch one Pope, does the other pope still get the ability to Saintify two people, or is it one saint per pope?
What associative tells do you guys expect scum who can not NK to have?
I think we need to keep an eye on squeamish end-wagon voters.
Wheat, why disengage yourself from the main conflict?

Because my pole has a sexy mouth.
Beat me to the punch.
I would saint Sir Karn, two points, each night, up through Night 2 (so six total) and aggressively pursue his lynch Day 3 for the win if the other Pope was still alive. That way I can work on setting up Karn and win the game in one fell swoop.

Which?
Is English your first language? Did you make it a point to fully understand what iRebel was responding to before you typed your own response?
Curious - why do you think you would need to analyze wagons as scum?
Okay, excellent. Please cite examples of similarities and differences between my posts here, in KS, and in MM, and how they make me scum. TIA!
Does Karn not do "Karn things" as scum? Please elaborate.

The Karn-Tanarin interaction in general could be an early mutual bus, setting up an early confrontation to try to get cred for the survivor if either gets lynched.

I meant in general @ analyze wagons. As scum I would want to be able to do towny things I would think? Also the new quoting system makes it hard for me to do my old thing with quoting and I don't like it ;_;
As for similarities blah blah blah I'll see what I can dig up.
Maybe I'm not the best judge of Karn because I have not been in a game with Scum!Karn so forget what I said about him; but from solely my experience he looks like he's doing his town thing @_@

My Iso vote just got serious. Especially combined with Iso's 39 and 40.
Also I am happy that you jumped on our wagon as Sakuya.
Coming back to this once JAR answers.
When is a pope not a pope? When it's a JAR. There now I don't have to restrain myself from making that joke the whole game.
We both know that isn't how it works.

This doesn't have the same feel of Iso this game. There's something missing. I can't put my finger on what though.
I mean there's this:

Iso isn't pushy, but making a draft order -makes sense-. This is just a conscious suggestion, nothing that needs to be disagreed with in any way, so it doesn't count toward his mindset, but I feel like the way this is crafted as well speaks differently than before - and not just because lack of pushiness.
That's all there really is before the game proceeds beyond a point that's incomparable. I guess his hostility is overall less, even though he seems like quite [phallus] in that longpost in MM, it's still less harsh overall imho.
There's this post;
http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/outside-magic/mafia/497151-the-legend-of-zelda-majoras-mask-mafia-endgame-a?comment=70
Which I think gives more meat to my 'way it's crafted' nonsense, since this doesn't seem to be how Iso is crafting posts this game at all.

[insert complaining at my lack of competence here]
But gosh darn if I ever betray my intuition ever again and I was wrong to do so I'm going to be really mad.
tl;dr keeping vote on Iso.

That was what I meant by "we both know that isn't how it works"
Okay. And this is demonstrably not an indicator of scumIso. Observe:

Ciao for now.
