In a secluded citadel in the mountains lives a group of monks, all of whom have taken vows of silence. But times are changing, and something is about to make silent speak their minds...
Welcome to Mostly Mute Monk Mafia, the game where people can only speak two words per post! Except me. I can post as much as I want, because I'm your host. Also mafia members can post as much as they want, but we'll get to that. Also some town roles can... you know what? Nevermind. Let's move on.

Basic Mafia Rules (inspired by Xylthixlm)
[1] I will enforce the rules strictly, because I'm evil like that.
[2] You vote must be in bold. You don't need to unvote before voting.
[3] Lynching requires a simple majority. You may vote no lynch, which also requires a simple majority. You can post during twilight.
[4] Once your death scene has been posted, you're dead. Dead people don't make forum posts. If you make a post after you are dead, I will hunt you down. HUNT YOU DOWN!
[5] Each day will have a deadline arbitrarily selected be me. If the game reaches the deadline, I'll pretend everyone not voting doesn't exist and check again for a majority. If there is, that person gets lynched. If there isn't, there's no lynch for the day.
[6] Post at least once every 48 hours. If you don't, I'll hunt you down. And prod you. Weekends (loosely defined as Friday night through Monday morning) count as one 24 hour period for these purposes. If you're going to be without computer access for more than 48 hours, let me know ahead of time by PM and I'll make a post informing the other players. Remember, people: if we work together we can have a replacement free game, but that can only happen with your help.
[7] No funny stuff like invisible text, tiny text, cryptography, or acronym claims.
[8] Don't edit posts. Don't quote PMs. Don't talk about the game outside the thread, unless your role says you can.
[9] If my vote count doesn't seem to reflect your vote, just revote.
[10] Have fun and be nice to the other players and me, even if we don't deserve it.
Game Specific Rules (lite edition)
The rules of this game are simple, and you should have little trouble following them. Each of your posts should contain the following:
1. Exactly two words.
2. 0-1 MTGS emoticons
3. 0-1 votes on another player
4. 0-1 FOSes on another player
5. No Funny Business.
6. No quotes.
Don’t post more than once in a row.
Breaking any of these basic restrictions will cause most townies to cut out their own hearts in SHAME. However, some roles may allow players to break these rules. For example, Mafia members are not subject to any speech based restrictions, because they have a more modern mindset about ancient vows of silence.
That’s it! If all your posts follow those guidelines, you will be fine this game.
Honestly, I will be following the lite rules more closely than I will the heavy rules! Just seriously, don’t try any funny stuff and everything will be fine, and if you have questions, ask.
Game Specific Rules (heavy edition)
The spirit of the game is that each post will contain exactly two words plus maybe an emoticon and maybe a vote. That’s the golden rule. If you’re breaking the spirit of that rule, you’re gonna get modkilled. Don’t be a jerkbutt and you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. But because I know we all like to toe the line, here’s a list:
What IS allowed in a post?
1. exactly two words - your post MUST contain EXACTLY two words, plus optional additions:
2. 0-1 MTGS emoticons in addition to those words
***your emoticon may appear at any point in your post.
***Examples of acceptable emoticon use:
Ged rocks
Ged rocks
Ged rocks
***Examples of unacceptable emoticon use:
Ged rocks
***the post in question contains too many emoticons
3. 0-1 votes on another player
***a vote is formatted vote: Ged
***a vote, like an emoticon, may be appear at any point in your post
***you may use both a vote and an emoticon in each post if you wish
***Example of acceptable votes:
Ged sucks! vote Ged
vote Ged he sucks
4. 0-1 unvotes
***an unvote works exactly the same as a vote
***Example of an acceptable unvote:
unvote vote Ged he scum
***Example of an unacceptable unvote:
unvote vote Ged JUST KIDDING unvote
***the post in question contains two unvotes. Why would you ever need two unvotes in one post? Only to do SNEAKY TRICKY ILLEGAL THINGS.
5. 0-1 FOSes and 0-1 unFOSes.
***These work exactly the same as votes and unvotes, and must also be bolded.
What counts as a word?
1. Any player’s name
***Archmage Eternal counts as one word
***My preference for two word names is that you refer to such players via acronym (AE), by just one of the words in their name (Archmage) or by running their name together without spaces (ArchmageEternal), but you will not be punished for using the full two word name (Archmage Eternal) as a single word.
2. Common contractions
***As usual, don’t be a jerkbutt about this.
***Allowed - can’t, won’t, wouldn’t, etc.
***Not allowed - wouldn’t’ve, anything even more ridiculous you just made up
3. Numbers
***1 counts as a single word. So does 21, even though you’d say it like “twenty one”. So does 1001, even though you’d say it like “one thousand and one”.
4. Common acronyms:
***mafia acronyms - OMGUS, WIFOM, SK, AZWOLG, etc.
***internet acronyms - WTF, OMG, tl;dr (lol), etc
***When in doubt, ask me if an acronym is fine.
What is NOT allowed - The big rule here is "Use your common sense. Don't be a jerkbutt."
1. Funny Business
***Seriously guys, we can all see what you’re doing to be clever and get around the two word limit. And if you’re gonna be that guy, even if it’s not written in the rules that what you’re doing isn’t allowed, ima modkill your face.
2. One word posts. They just aren’t for some reason.
3. Double posting
4. Quoting other players
5. Hyperlinks. Do not link to anything elsewhere on the web.
6. Also do not include web addresses as one of your words.
7. Pictures. They count as 1,000 words, and you will be modkilled appropriately.
8. Made up compound words
***Examples - lastnight, copliar, AzScum, TownAxel
9. Hyphenating words that shouldn’t be hyphenated. If it can’t be a compound word, it’s probably not a hyphenated word either.
10. Post titles. While allowed, any words in your post’s title count towards your word limit. And at that point, if you’re using a title, my Funny Business radar is gonna start pinging.
11. Making up your own awkward acronyms - MUYOAA is not allowed.
12. While reasonable punctuation is allowed, using punctuation to substitute for words is not. “Ged scum!” is reasonable. “Ged != scum” is not. Neither is “Ged < Az” or “Az @ Ged’s!” or “Az & Ged” or “Az + Ged”. If you were actually speaking, would you use the punctuation? Yes? Cool, then put it in. No? Then don’t.
***The golden rule here is to speak your post out loud. If the punctuation turns into words, you have a problem ("Ged = scum" turns into "Ged equals scum", which is three words). If it doesn't, you're good ("Ged: thoughts?" is still two words, the colon just changes the tone of voice).
13. Do not...
14. string out...
15. one idea...
16. over multiple...
17. posts like...
18. this, jerkbutt.
The Mod prod exception: for anything mod-related more complex than asking for a vote count or player prod, please PM me. In thread requests should pretty much exactly follow this model:
Mod: Vote Count?
Mod: Prod [USER]?
Anything else should be handled by PMing me.
Finally, remember that mafia members are not subject to these rules.
Would this even be allowed? Section 12 of the heavy rules makes me think no. Without the colon it makes less sense and thus the colon means something.
I'd allow it. I should amend the punctuation section to include my real guideline, which is this: if you speak your post out loud, how many words are the punctuation? In this case, the colon would basically just modify the tone of voice of the post so that it's clear what is being said.
The problem with "Megs = scum" is that it's actually "Megs equals scum". There's no problem like that here.
Would a player get in trouble for using the : arn : emoticon (:arn:) in replacement for saying my name?
I will be extremely hard on anyone who tries to set up any form of code before the game begins, up to and probably including preventing them from being in the game.
That said, it's not up to me to assign or interpret meaning from smilies.
I don't know what CFM means, so I'm very, very skeptical. Roman numerals count as numbers, though I'd prefer they be written as standard numerals instead.
One more question. How do you feel about slang? As in if I can find the word on Urban Dictionary can I use it in game? As I found out daijoubu is on Urban Dictionary and now I have a strong urge to use it in game, ne?
I just realized how much of an ******* I am going to be if I get in this game. Well if I can't be me might as well be kpaca.
Oh yeah almost forgot to add in zero games. As for favorite toppings I am going to go with Pickles, though ground beef is a close second (I enjoy my Home Run Inn hamburger pizza).
I don't care who made up the word, made up words aint allowed. Listen, if I have to google what the word means, you're gonna get a warning. And by warning I mean modkill.
Numbered mana symbol smilies will count as numbers and not smilies. As this was ambiguous before, no one will be punished for any previous transgressions. But in the future, the post...
[quote]need more
...would count as 3 words and not 2. The same rules for speaking out punctuation apply here.
Votecount incoming soon. Nachomamma8 has still not confirmed. S/he will have another couple days before I move to replace.
Monks of Silence woke up one morning to find one of the abbots stabbed to death. This could mean only one thing: some members of the order had gotten sick of their mandatory vow of silence and begun to systematically kill all other members of monastery, one per night, giving the rest of the monks enough time to potentially figure out who the murders were during the day.
The sacred rule of Mafia was invoked, allowing monastery members to speak two words at a time until the crisis was over.

Because I never addressed the ^ punctuation mark in the rules (as I overlooked it), I will be allowing its use. The rules specifically state that you shouldn't use punctuation as a replacement for words, but since I can't come up with what exact words ^ would replace, it stands.
Note that I'm allowing its use, but not abuse. As always,

KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.

Good question. I'm going to tentatively go with allowed, but with the option to change that ruling at a later date. Don't abuse this.
First, a question I received:
Q. Is counterclaim one word?
A. Yes.
The sacred rule of Mafia was invoked, allowing monastery members to speak two words at a time until the crisis was over.
And so it was that day 1 began.
With 15 alive, it's 8 to lynch.

As always,
[7] No funny stuff
and
5. No Funny Business.

Too interested.
Jund Fangirl; Few things can describe the bliss of the fangirl's cries fading to silence (broken by occasional munching sounds).
Grixis Emo; 'Why should I go out there? They're all uncaring zombies! *sniff* No one understands me...'
Bant Wageslave; Behind every successful knight is a corporate drudge doing his taxwork.
Naya Overenthusiast; Because there is such a thing as too much enthusiasm.
