It seems that the newb games have succeeded in bringing more players to the boards, any thoughts of trying to run 1 more normal sized game (Bringing the totals to 3 normal, 1 specialty, 1 mini, and 1 newb when needed)?
Edit: I ask because 23 people signed up for the last mini game and it seems a shame to turn away players who WANT to play.
You forget Draygn, that 11 of those players were in other games, mostly normal games. Im not sure we could support another regular game. Another mini, maybe, but certainly not another regular game.

I love Joboman, Poggy, Niv, and Vezok, because, while they may not be the best players, they still try to win. Having fun is the most important thing to a game, but I've learned that if you don't try to win, then you're ruining everyone else's fun.
Yes, but how many people didn't bother to sign up because they are already in another game?
For instance- I am in Douglas Adams mafia and no other games. How many players can say the same? A lot I think. I'd rather have enough games on this site to keep people's attention rather than have them go to other sites to keep active.
well, based on my count we have nearly 70 active players right now with only about 7 in 2 games.
just out of curiosity, can we have a thread with a listing of the currently active players and their stats in mafia games on this site? (I'll even keep track of it if you guys will approve it.) It would just be nice to have a readily accessible reference for who is out there and what kind of experience they have. Nothing too fancy just name, Wins/Losses/Draws, Town/Mafia/Neutral, Nightkilled/Lynched/Survived. It could even be split into minis/normal/specialty and start with the currently active games.
Eh. Call me the cautious one, but I think we've got plently of games going right now. Maybe another Mini, but I wouldn't want to put another full size game out along with three others.
I direct you guys to mafiascum and the general pace of the games over there.

Ambush Krotiq makes me laugh so much. I keep rereading the card and it keeps not having Flash. In what sense is this an ambush again? I just have visions of this huge Krotiq poorly concealed in some bushes, feeling slightly sad that his carefully planned ambushes never seem to work.
@Vecna- I wasn't talking about something where people post their results. I meant a single post thread that 1 person would be updating via edit. You could even keep the thread locked and just have the person update it once a game ends.
Such a statistics thread would be inherently misleading, and thus would serve almost no purpose. Anyone who plays here on a regular basis already knows who the other regulars are and knows what kind of experience they have, just as with any Mafia community (see Scum, Tings, GL, etc.).
Agreed with Fade and Vecna on the stat-tracking: it's just unnecessary really. Cool idea, but not worth the trouble.
I think MTGS can certainly support two minis at once. We've got quite a mafia community built up here, major props to the mods who have been doing such a great job with the newbie games that most of the players come back for more!
I direct you guys to mafiascum and the general pace of the games over there.
This is a good point. When people are in multiple games, the pace suffers, and it's harder for them to participate and analyze at a healthy rate.
I'll retract my support for additional games at this point. Once we have a large number of people who aren't in any games at all would be the ideal time to start one.
I'd recommend waiting until Romance and Douglas Adams are about halfway through, then start up a mini.
I haven't counted, but I think we do have enough people not in a game to support a mini. Between people who don't get to the signups in time, and people who die early in other games, I think there's enough to fill up most of a Mini, and the last few slots I'm sure could be filled by people who are only in a single game.
Although if the rest of you think otherwise, that's fine by me. I don't see it as an urgent need.
And as Az says, we can wait for the other games to pass a couple days to get more casualties to fill up a game.
Considering we have a lot of games still in the first day/night cycle, I think it would be best to wait (and I was planning on it.) Besides, I still need a confirm of intention to host and complete setup by RafaelK.
Considering the fact that mini hosting may be going faster now, I suggest all hosts in that list have a good idea of what they will be doing.

One thing that's kind of annoying about the state of the forum is the fact that many of the games that we've had over the past few months have been starting/ending within just a few days of each other. It would be nice if we could stagger the games' starting dates a little more.
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.
'Welcome to Mafia Salvation', it said, 'Population: 3,660.' And someone, they never figured out who, had painted on the sign in red letters: '1,831 to lynch.'
Highroller broguht this up in the incorrect place and a bad fashion awhile back and because of that it did not get the attention it deserved however I think it should. His point was, however badly-worded it may have been, is that Vecna_Reborn may not be the best leader for the Mafia Council. Due to recent events I would tend to agree with him. Vecna has showed many times he loves the power he has and uses it in whatever way he feels fit.
I am unsure if his complete removal is correct but I would like to ask the council to atleast discuss how Vecna uses his power and how it could be better regulated.
We will discuss this in-council, but Sorryguy is angry because I brought up some things in his modding that he should not have done, and jokingly said I would blacklist him (technically, you cant be blacklisted unless you actually were a player in a game, so he should have spotted the logical fallacy right there).
He got upset, trolled me (over aim), and said he would not be updating his game. I said I would do it for him. He said that I was too lazy to, and so I did. Abuse of power by me or neglect of duty by him?

This of coarse is just Vecna's side of the story, one which is inately flawed. And to say I trolled him is a sad attempt on his part. I attempted to keep the discussion civil, while he did not.
In addition there are many others who have had similiar situations involving Vecna. As a person I have no problem with Vecna, we talk often, for instance he is trolling me right now, however I feel that he no longer can control himself with power.
@As I said I wish you would keep this civil but I guess not. I could care less about my post count and you know it. I have long supported getting rid of post counts. I simply prefer to use the forums as vB created them to be used. Edit wars are fun and all but lead to discussion which is somewhat hard to follow.
My history with Vecna is well known. For simply disagreeing with him, and posting something contrary to his opinion, *proper meathods and all* he started to troll me, Via an intermediary. And according to him "As long as im here you'll never host a mafia game"
Sounds slightly abusive from just him having a problem with what i said.

True but then where's the place to air our grievances in a public manner?
And saying "Well, you should keep it private" is not an acceptable answer. If you do that **** all is gonna change, and everyone knows it. Those being yelled at will assume that the fault is really with the yeller, and nothing will get done. This stuff needs to be public for any change that may or may not be necesarry to happen. Note that I am not saying change IS necessary... but a place for public grievances is.
The purpose of this thread is to provide a place where Salvation's mafia players can discuss their problems and opinions, appeal decisions to the council, suggest improvements to the current system, and consult with council members about pretty much anything.
We want to know what we can do to make mafia more fun for everyone, so make sure you let us know.
This thread is the proper place for discussion, but it needs to be kept on-topic and civil. And it's not the place for general bashing. If anyone has an issue, bring it up here in an appropriate manner and it will be discussed/handled.
Beyond that, if there is a problem with the leadership of the boards, it can be brought up with the actual forum mod (Fadeblue) via PM. I'm sure you can let him know in a civil manner what your personal grievance against whomever is and he will mediate a fair solution with the other council members.
<<Sorry, not trying to mini-mod, but someone had to say this.>>
Not wanting to seem like a flame, but why is Venca even on this council? I've never seen Vecna in a game, only in the council thread/sign-up thread, being really haphazardly fixing things/flaming people.

I'm just going to throw out an idea here:

While the Mafia Council currently consists of 4 members (Vecna, Azrael, Axelrod, myself), we have decided on assigning some of us particular duties, as follows:
-Management of the queues and game review will be handled by Vecna.
-Decisions on blacklisting, probations, and other punishments for rules violations will be handled by Azrael.
-Enforcement of forum rules, Mafia rules (in conjunction with the game mods), and existing penalties for rules violations will be handled by me.
All of us will still work together when discussing matters related to the state of the forum.
But do remember that you may still ask for any other council member to review your game instead of (or in addition to) me, because I do like to play in games every once in a while.
Also, based on past experience of a host, I may now require normal hosts to give me basic game rundowns (balance check only) because of the way some recent hosts have pushed the limits (not a bad thing, but not something everyone can successfully pull off)

im not sure if this is the right place to put this... but i dont know where else to since the signup thread is mods only and whatnot... but if i sign up for newb 7, will that hurt my chances of getting into the matrix mini which i definitely want to do? i ask b/c i didnt get into drawn together cause i was in newb 6,
thx
That is really up to Az, and how he wants to do signups. I've been saving an open spot in my Mafia schedule for that game, too.
Some of the time, mods are willing to give preference to some players, depending on the complexity of the game (Sin City) or how concerned they are that everyone gets to be involved in at least one game (Drawn Together). It all depends on the mod.
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.

Matrix is actually specialty, rather than mini, and it's not registered to come up until 6 other specialty games have gone ahead. So, unless Newb 7 lasts for about 6 months, you're probably good to go.
Still haven't decided exactly how I'm doing sign-ups, yet, but it's not exactly going to be a noob-friendly game either, so that will be a factor in my decision.
ahh i see... if you look over at the mod signup thread you would see why i got confused =P lol
anyway by that time i wont be a newb anymore so itll be cool (hopefully)
Matrix is actually specialty, rather than mini, and it's not registered to come up until 6 other specialty games have gone ahead.
I think the source of the confusion is probably that it's been added at the head of the speciality queue in the signup thread rather than at the end ?

I think that another Mini should be opened up. The player base here has increased significantly enough that a newb, 1 special, 1 normal, and 2 mini's can be successfully run. Mini games go fast enough that this way anyone who has extenuating circumstances will still always be able to be in a game if they wish. Any thoughts?

Perhaps a "normal" mini and "theme/specialty" mini running at the same time? That way players could be restricted to one of each normal and specialty, and one of each mini and normal. (if that makes sense...)
EDIT: Especially since the number of people that missed out of Axels game = the number of people needed for a mini.
I think the sign-up for Star Trek Mafia proves this point. 1 more mini will not be large enough of an increase of people. We need to add another Normal.
What do you say council?

Especially when it generated 40 people, not including people in two games or those who assumed that their likelihood of getting in was minute (ie myself).
Given that I'm next up to mod a mini and I'm really eager to do it, my vote is for opening another mini. For all the interest, I'm also aware of how glacial the pace is getting in some of the current games. We don't need to become mafiascum 2 in terms of how spread thin the activity can be.
I agree that the activity is a slight problem. Case in point, ROTK Mafia, which is a specialty game. Though since Star Trek Mafia did get 40 people in the sign up list, and that doesn't include those of us that didn't even sign up. (Read as: me). I think a mini and a Normal would be a possibility, but we should only have that temporarily while we test the waters with that set up to see if we get too much inactivity.

Rafael, go ahead and start up your game.
Just put something that states that anyone in the other mini cannot sign up for this one.
But yeah, 12 more playing slots probably wont make much of a difference.
EDIT @ Below: This is just a test run.
So, we're going to run a Noob, a Specialty, 2 minis and 2 normals at a time now? That's remarkably well rounded... I like it :). GJ everyone. I think we reached a conclusion that's good for everyone.
I have two questions for the council/experienced players passing by:
First, to whom do potential mods usually send their setups for review? I haven't completed enough games on MTGS yet to mod, but I've been working on a setup for a while and wanted to get an experienced player's opinion on balance and fun factor. But whoever I send it to won't be able to play in it, so...
Second, on a similar note, do the three games have to be completed prior to applying to mod, or just prior to actually modding? I ask because from what I can tell by looking at the modding signup list, anyone who signs up now will have to wait about a year before actually modding. And, I'll definitely have more than three games completed by a year from now. So, can I reserve a spot now, or do I have to finish three games first?

Vecna will probably want to take a hard line on that. Provided you have a good setup/idea pitch ready, I personally would be fine with waiving that requirement.
It used to be a strict 3 completed games before signing up to host, but the length of the list, and me not being able to check everything (read: Vecna is lazy) it has been moved down to essentially 2 completed games here of any nature, and current participation in a third.
You sound as though you have prior experience with mafia though, and PMing me a link to prove that you do (if you do anyway) would be enough to put you on the list, technically without you actually having played here OR finished a setup (only Specialty needs a complette setup to be added, rest need like half or something)
EDIT: But yeah, go ahead and PM me.

Thanks for that, but it wasn't you, and I cannot discuss the reason(s) why I initially wanted to drop the game.
It was my fault that I did not PM back a final time to say that I would continue that actually dropped me (which is incredibly stupid of me.)
Thanks again for the support, and the apologies, but it wasn't you, don't worry.
EDIT: The next noob game will begin shortly. Check around in a day or two.

Also, based on past experience of a host, I may now require normal hosts to give me basic game rundowns (balance check only) because of the way some recent hosts have pushed the limits (not a bad thing, but not something everyone can successfully pull off)

thx
Some of the time, mods are willing to give preference to some players, depending on the complexity of the game (Sin City) or how concerned they are that everyone gets to be involved in at least one game (Drawn Together). It all depends on the mod.

Still haven't decided exactly how I'm doing sign-ups, yet, but it's not exactly going to be a noob-friendly game either, so that will be a factor in my decision.
anyway by that time i wont be a newb anymore so itll be cool (hopefully)
I think the source of the confusion is probably that it's been added at the head of the speciality queue in the signup thread rather than at the end ?
(I'm on on this site much anymore. If you want to get in touch it's probably best to email me: dom@heffalumps.org)

We were planning on running a second one, but I think I forgot about it.

What do you say council?
Random Mafia 2 Town MVP
'08 MTGS Fantasy Football Overall Champion
Best Non-SK Neutral Performance (Individual)
Especially when it generated 40 people, not including people in two games or those who assumed that their likelihood of getting in was minute (ie myself).
Experiments Series: #5 (Courtly Intrigue Mafia) | #4 (Drunken Tracker) | #3 (Big Red Button) - coming soon | #2 (Pope Mafia) | #1 (Iso's Inflammable Mafia)
Mini Games: MTGS Mafia Redux II (Invitational, Evil Mirror Universe) | Unreal City
Old Games (bad): The Greenwood Affair | Blood Moon Mafia
Random Mafia 2 Town MVP
'08 MTGS Fantasy Football Overall Champion
Best Non-SK Neutral Performance (Individual)
Just put something that states that anyone in the other mini cannot sign up for this one.
But yeah, 12 more playing slots probably wont make much of a difference.
EDIT @ Below: This is just a test run.

Any of the council will do, but Vecna is the default for setup review.
Vecna will probably want to take a hard line on that. Provided you have a good setup/idea pitch ready, I personally would be fine with waiving that requirement.
