It's the mindset that not using your vote has to come from.
Town actually wants to pressure people, generate reactions and use the only real tool that they have in order to do so - their vote. They have no fear of being held accountable for their voting or actions because... they are town.
That post and refusal to vote when it's not even a wagon yet rubs me the wrong way, to say the least.
Because what purpose does leaving your vote on no one serve as we break out of RVS?
I've touched on my thought process regarding mindsets in other games (Gotham Underground D1 in particular I think, maybe in Checks and Balances?) - and that what I look for is the absence of town mindsets.
Hmmm. I didn't vote because I didn't think it was really worthy of a vote. I didn't see the action as scummy but was interested in his thoughts from the statement.
Hmm... as much as I'd love to make a certain reference going along with my fun little trains example, it's not there yet! >_<
Oh look, another bold accusation! EtR, could you elaborate on what you consider worthy of a vote, then? Without voting, how are you drawing pressure?
I guess something actually scummy. I wasn't trying to apply pressure, I was just interested. I'm getting more newer player vibes then scum vibes so I was curious by what he meant.

The fact that you are refusing to comment on your vote, especially after someone asked you specifically to comment on his vote for you, makes you look scummy. You are also quick to get defensive, nobody is really getting on you're back. Now what would you have to be defensive about?

Wow 3 votes? Does that mean I'm winning?
Care to respond to any of those votes, instead of trying to appeal to people and look funny? All that post does is make it look like you are trying to avoid the wagon against you, which is not helping you at all.
I've been drinking and spaced out how many ppl were in this game. They're still all potential candidates at this early juncture, and have stood out more than others.
Care to respond to any of those votes, instead of trying to appeal to people and look funny? All that post does is make it look like you are trying to avoid the wagon against you, which is not helping you at all.
No not really. I have yet to see a legitimate reason anyone has voted for anyone yet. This includes myself.
@swishh: is your post sarcastic?
Also, I don't think you've answered why you were "hesitant" on your vote for Void. Please do.
No, it wasn't sarcastic. But this one is.
I wasn't hesitant to vote for Void. I was hesitant to unvote Rick Santorum. He sort of messed that one up though.
I've been drinking and spaced out how many ppl were in this game. They're still all potential candidates at this early juncture, and have stood out more than others.
Who is the "they" you refer to here? I'm confused.
Though I'm patient, so I'm willing to see a little more motive before jumping on the bandwagon yet.
If I must make an observation, Cythare is one aggressive cat. Rawr.
Teh JeY (look, spelled accurately! :p) does the same thing that EtR does in the next post. Expresses interest in the wagon, while also pointing out why they're waiting to go on. Fence-sit, see: prime example.
I'm not going to pile on with a vote at this point, but I would like to hear more from Swishh regarding his comment.
EtR]Hmmm. I didn't vote because I didn't think it was really worthy of a vote. I didn't see the action as scummy but was interested in his thoughts from the statement.
And furthermore, I don't see these 2 posts jiving here from EtR. From starting your response to Vox with "Hmmm", it stood out as you being careful, and then you go on to say you didn't think it was worthy of a vote.
But I see your statement about not wanting to pile on "at this point" to mean that you didn't vote only because it would be seen as piling on, not because you didn't think it was unwarranted.
whoa whoa whoa I didn't say he was scum. Unvote
Vote Rick Santorum
That was awful shifty mister.
If this whole swishh thing doesn't scream "I'm NEW and having fun!" then I just don't know what else to even say. Which frankly, is pretty much null for a player with no experience. Definitely cuts into the allegedly scummy nature of such a strangely motivated vote though.
Voting people because "they annoy you?" And even worse, as soon as you're called out, you vote the person who called you out on it. Scummy, scummy, scum.
Please explain why this is only a scum mind set option and not a town mind set option.
Lies! -I'm Buffy Summers, town tracker. I used my ability on you and saw that you didn't use any abilities before the game started. My flavor is I was sucked through a mysterious space-time portal and I'm here to kill all the vampires, and my tracking ability is a combination of my Slayer and Native American skills.

@swishh: What do you believe to be a "legitimate" reason for voting someone?
There were three people who were asked questions, I felt like seeing what they had to say for themselves first. Once a reply seemed worth pursuing, I'm not going to hesitate.
I wanted Swishh to defend my accusation, though Swishh is barely questioning any of his/her votes, actuary exam or not. I still really want to see what s/he has to say. No one having a legitimate reason to vote for anybody yet is his/her opinion to which I disagree with.

Oops, missed the bluff calling - actually I thought it was because Lennon never posted still - I checked the entire topic previous to that post 2-3 times and didn't see his name, but he actually had one tiny post so meh. By the time I realized it, I found a much better engage to pursue.
My name is based off a random paper i found when i was 6 i was trying to come up with an rpg name so my mom looked at some random papers and we got lennonmint its been my name for everything ever since then
Here we get some spam well after the conversation had moved on from where our usernames were derived from. Why? You could see that we were now actually discussing things, so no need to go back to the contentless information.
My name is based off a random paper i found when i was 6 i was trying to come up with an rpg name so my mom looked at some random papers and we got lennonmint its been my name for everything ever since then
Yeah, my vote's staying here for now. Care to respond to it?
Why are you voting for me?
Suddenly get defensive. Over one vote that was already on you? Why what are you so worried about? Why not actually post content that proves you're hunting for scum, rather than just screwing around?

And again, more defensiveness. Especially for someone who didn't even vote you. Not only are you avoiding putting anything out, you're completely skittish. Someone shines a light on you, and you start running like your life depends on it.

Yeah, my vote's staying here for now. Care to respond to it?
Why are you voting for me?
A reasonable response. I am voting for you because you do not have an avatar. And because I wanted to see how you would react when I continued voting for you without explicitly stating my reasons - they more followed from my initial post of the game. I like the fact that you just asked instead of trying to counterattack or cover your tracks. Unvote, although I would still appreciate it if you could get an avatar for ease of recognition.
Also, my reason for voting Lennonmint80 is still valid.
Also, valid?
Yes. I voted him for a reason. You should be able to figure out what it is. If you can't, please let him respond before asking me to explain.
No, I understand it. The way you worded your previous post and the way you responded here made it seem more serious than I had previously perceived it to be.
This I dislike. Why did you step in the way of the pressure I was putting on Lennonmint? The initial request for clarification, sure - I was being intentionally vague, so you asked for a followup. But once you understood my reasoning, why say that it wasn't that serious? It undermines the validity of Lennonmint's reaction.
Voting people because "they annoy you?" And even worse, as soon as you're called out, you vote the person who called you out on it. Scummy, scummy, scum.
Why do you believe scum are more likely to vote people who annoy them than townies are?
PPE: I see this has been asked by others. Question stands.

That is an interesting take on my interaction with Lennonmint. He asked for clarification on my reasons for voting him. How is that refusing to comment?

Like I said, there were three really good accusations started, but if I had nothing to add, why post at all? Perhaps I was a bit excited to play, but yeesh a costly mistake for such a trivial emotion. Still, I wasn't going to sit for long.
The worst thing is these attacks barely warrant anything scum-worthy to mention. Of course the fence-sit post went ignored for a while but a person without too many previous posts in the discussion brings it up, followed by two more people without too many previous posts, hardly bandwagoning as opposed to staking a really good claim. Perhaps I'm missing something fishy?

Why do you think that it was serious, given swishh's other posts?
Though I'm patient, so I'm willing to see a little more motive before jumping on the bandwagon yet.
A quick check back shows that there's no hint as to which 'bandwagon' is being referred to. If it's Void's, then that's one vote (and one "intent to lynch"). If it's swishh, then that's also one vote. Given that 10's required to lynch, there's no 'escalation'. As well, there's absolutely no opinion expressed here.
Anywho, seems to me like there's two trains going in opposite directions on the same rail, about to inevitably collide. Which train to chase...
Vote Swishh, due to seeming a bit twitchy.
There are a few problems in this false dichotomy. First, there's no opinion noted on either "train". Both are considered perfectly valid.
This is behaviour of someone trying to get on a bandwagon, not trying to hunt scum.

What makes that scummy versus bad play?
For me it's the fact that Anak is an experienced player and knows that the mind set presented is not just a scum mind set. He didn't even consider the other option in his post and that is a rather big red flag for me.
Sure, it could be bad play versus scummy play, but I haven't seen too many games where Anak makes bad moves. The last game I played with Anak was Basic #59 Modern Family where he was scum. He managed to lurk through most the game while avoiding the little pressure that came his way. While that is not the primary reason that the Town lost it is still something that I will not forget. For now I believe pressuring Anak is a good route to take.

So why not ask me about the trains? I'd be happy to provide. This isn't so much bandwagoning as it is a simplistic initial approach, scout easier-to-make slip-ups before grinding down to some really fun engages. Kind of like this one! =D My opinion on the trains is one could decimate and roll the other over or they could both be blown to bits in the collision.
Unvote, Vote Cyouni. I asked a simple question and you gave a simple answer though there seems to be a lacking... really bad at wording this probably, but a lacking for much further exploration. There's a magical word (or something like that) I was looking for and it's not there.

It really means absolutely no editing. Double (or triple, or more) posting is an inevitable side effect, but not editing posts is pretty strictly enforced, and the usual "don't double post" rule that's strongly enforced everywhere else on MTGS is waived in the Mafia forum.
I understand why you were not voting tj, but that wasn't my point.

Was... this to me? When did I use post count in any statement? 0.o
Did I misunderstand something then? It's possible, I am not native english
You were talking about how people without many previous posts were bringing things up.
Just means people who haven't been posting as frequently in this topic alone, nothing to do with their actual post count. If their post count were the case, it wouldn't make much sense due to their relatively high post counts
Rhand, I kind of hate to ask this, but could I get you to spoiler the image in your sig as well? I am currently posting from work, and while it isn't actually NSFW, it is on the line enough that it is making me uncomfortable.

Teh JeY (look, spelled accurately! :p) does the same thing that EtR does in the next post. Expresses interest in the wagon, while also pointing out why they're waiting to go on. Fence-sit, see: prime example.
If this whole swishh thing doesn't scream "I'm NEW and having fun!" then I just don't know what else to even say. Which frankly, is pretty much null for a player with no experience. Definitely cuts into the allegedly scummy nature of such a strangely motivated vote though.
So, enlighten me, what made you suddenly lose your patience you touted. What "motive" did you see? Surely not just the "twitchy" read?
Unvote; Vote Teh JeY
2nd'd.
Nice try, but he brought up valid questions. Not responding to them once again is not helping your case.
Welcome, Cy!
How is one vote in a 19-player game "piling on"?
*smacks killjoy*
Every post you make seems scummier and scummier.
Despite how it may seem, I generally leave my vote on no one unless I have good reason.
So I believe you're referring to intentionally avoiding placing your vote on someone. Am I correct?
I like.
Plan on providing content anytime soon?
@swishh: What do you believe to be a "legitimate" reason for voting someone?
Also, /barn everything in AI's post.
I wanted Swishh to defend my accusation, though Swishh is barely questioning any of his/her votes, actuary exam or not. I still really want to see what s/he has to say. No one having a legitimate reason to vote for anybody yet is his/her opinion to which I disagree with.
What about my posts are scummy, to you?

Vote Lord of Tresserhorn for too eagerly jumping on the let's-lynch-swishh bandwagon after the host's update on vote counts.
Not answering what was asked of you is noted. Please respond with an actual answer.
And what does Day 1 have to with anything? That is one of the worst excuses I have seen.
Unvote
Vote: Anaklusmos
Anak is an experienced player here on this site, but he assumes that this post could only come from scum. That is not a town mind set. He's going for low hanging fruit and hoping it sticks.

Here we get some spam well after the conversation had moved on from where our usernames were derived from. Why? You could see that we were now actually discussing things, so no need to go back to the contentless information.
In other news, poooooooooost MandersHex.
Because his posts don't add up:
He first doesn't want to vote:
To later tell EtR he should use his vote to put pressure on people.
That he seems stuck on something that appears innocuous and is now calling Lennon out for not responding to it.
"They" refers to the three people I noted before - RobRoy, swishh and EtR.

I'm interested to see Teh Jay's responses to AI, Cyouni and Rhand, but I'm not seeing it yet myself.

On the other hand...
Why do you believe scum are more likely to vote people who annoy them than townies are?
PPE: I see this has been asked by others. Question stands.
That is an interesting take on my interaction with Lennonmint. He asked for clarification on my reasons for voting him. How is that refusing to comment?
Back atcha. I didn't like the way you worked yourself into my "attack" on Lennonmint.
It's called "fishing for a reaction." Thanks for not helping.
It's more that I see it as an awful reason to vote, at least outside of RVS.
My posting may be less regular for a few days, as I seem to have the flu. I'll try to check in at least once a day.
JeY is spelled with an 'e', sweetie. As for my responses, 2/3's of them are covered:
As for Rhand (to which I will address his use of pronouns to say that I'm actually female),
Like I said, there were three really good accusations started, but if I had nothing to add, why post at all? Perhaps I was a bit excited to play, but yeesh a costly mistake for such a trivial emotion. Still, I wasn't going to sit for long.
The worst thing is these attacks barely warrant anything scum-worthy to mention. Of course the fence-sit post went ignored for a while but a person without too many previous posts in the discussion brings it up, followed by two more people without too many previous posts, hardly bandwagoning as opposed to staking a really good claim. Perhaps I'm missing something fishy?
¤.†.¤ The OceanLink ¤.†.¤
Indeed it does.
Why do you think that it was serious, given swishh's other posts?
As an aside, don't edit, double post instead. I enjoy people not getting modkilled.
Let's isolate each part.
This, in turn, is all filler. Cythare is aggressive. Alright. But there's nothing as to what that means one way or the other.
That whole post is pretty much the definition of active lurking.
There are a few problems in this false dichotomy. First, there's no opinion noted on either "train". Both are considered perfectly valid.
This is behaviour of someone trying to get on a bandwagon, not trying to hunt scum.
The edit was made within a minute or two of the post, I think, seemed harmless - unless you mean absolutely no editing whatsoever, in which case I might double post a lot o_o Or I should just proofread better before I hit the post button. REALLY bad habit I already have on other forums >_>
As for active lurking, I already admitted I was excited, but now that I think about it everything looks suspicious so there's no real use to saying that v_v Forgive me, it's been never since I last played this >_> I actually backspaced something regarding my post being nothing but filler in my most recent post. Posting filler doesn't get questions answered any faster however v_v
[Also new strategy to avoid edit button: Let this post sit here on my txt file and come back to it later =D]

It really means absolutely no editing. Double (or triple, or more) posting is an inevitable side effect, but not editing posts is pretty strictly enforced, and the usual "don't double post" rule that's strongly enforced everywhere else on MTGS is waived in the Mafia forum.
Draft my cube! (630 cards)
What I noticed was that you have other demands from other people than from yourself.
I don't like how you use the low postcount of your accusers in your defense.
Besides being irrelevant to the accusations themselves, the game had barely started.
Sorry for the gender-thing
Don't ever edit you posts here, the mod will kill you. We don't mind the double posts
Was... this to me? When did I use post count in any statement? 0.o

You were talking about how people without many previous posts were bringing things up.

That will teach me for ordering sigs at the dissapointing signatures inc.
I will go spoiler it right away
Awful != scummy.
Not a big problem... I just felt a need to tab away from this page whenever I thought someone was walking past.

I'm actually liking Teh JeY's posts so far. She's been posting a lot, and I'm not getting the feeling that she is taking much time to consider her posts before throwing them out there. That strikes me as more of a townie mindset, or a very comfortable scum. The wildcard in this is that she obviously has outside experience.
I dislike the fact that Cythare posted in this thread without responding to me at all.
I will need to reread Swishh at some point.
I'll respond to your post when I get home tonight from my LAST DAY AT MY CURRENT JOB! Woo!
Draft my cube! (630 cards)
Nooo! Leo Giamani!! =(
@RobRoy I will be more than happy to respond to any inquiries you may have.
Three people vote for her. Her immediate response is to wonder if she's missing something fishy. There are two options here, given the context isn't fully clear. One, that there's something fishy with her accusers. That's oblique mudslinging. Two, that there's something fishy in her posts that she's missing.
Town shouldn't be wondering if there's something fishy in their posts that's being attacked.
Isn't it nice when that happens?
How does being excited transfer into active lurking?
I note that despite saying that you'd be "happy to provide", you still haven't said anything about the trains' targets. Nothing about if they're scummy, townie, or neither. Similarly, despite saying you're looking for easier slip-ups, the most you've said about that is that someone's "twitchy".
I'm curious: do you actually think I'm scum? That vote seems terribly out of place with the rest of your paragraph.
What might it mean that would merit your vote on him?
Unvote
Vote Cyouni
1. Referring to 'town' as third person.
2. What's the difference between thinking you're scum and actually thinking you're scum?
Because I think you're scum.
Now that you have answered to RobRoy I would like you to respond to the below as well.
/barn this. Teh JeY's (May I shorten this to TJ for easier typing?) reminds me of my play when I first started playing. This is not to say the Teh JeY is certainly town or scum, but the type of posting I am seeing makes reading Teh JeY much easier.
The bolded: If Teh JeY is town, then why wouldn't she want to know what is fishy about her posts when she is not familiar with are meta?
