Basic Rules: These are standard fare, but be sure you comply with them.
1) If you think you’ve found a loophole or can break the game, tell the mods FIRST and wait for their permission to continue. We’d usually rather the game remained unbroken. If you think you can see something you’re not supposed to see, you are advised to stop looking and contact a mod.
2) DO NOT QUOTE FROM YOUR ROLE PM. If and when you claim, you MUST PARAPHRASE.
2a) Do not quote any private correspondence, including that from the mods.
2b) Paraphrasing means paraphrasing: not quoting with a handful of words removed or changed.
2c) If you are even the tiniest little bit unsure, ASK A MOD FIRST.
3) Do not edit or delete your posts. This subforum should have these actions disabled, but better safe than sorry.
4) Votes and Unvotes MUST be in bold to count.
4a) You don’t have to unvote before making a new vote, but it helps us if you do, even more so if you tell us who you’re unvoting.
4b) Lynches require a standard majority. Once this majority is reached, no further votes or unvotes will count that day.
4c) You may vote for “no lynch” in the same manner as you would a player.
5) Do NOT talk about the game with ANYONE that isn’t specifically mentioned in your role PM (and the mods). Even if you’re dead, they’re dead or they’re not involved. Even if you think the information exchanged is irrelevant, you DO NOT talk.
6) Standard forum rules apply, so please remain civil and let’s keep the red text of doom out of the game.
7) Once you are dead, you are dead. Dead people don’t make forum posts (not even a “bah!” posts). Dead people also do not talk about the game to anyone, even if they think they wouldn’t say anything “important”.
8) You must post at least once every two or three days. These posts must contain at least some relevant content: it is not enough to post “catching up” every three days.
8a) If you cannot keep up this rate of posting, we will prod and even replace you. Replacements will be awkward in this game, so we’d prefer to not have to make any, but we will if it’s necessary.
8b) If you anticipate being away for longer period of time, please please tell us. Real life happens for everyone, and the more we know, the more we can accommodate.
9) Do not thank any posts within either game thread. This applies to players (living and dead) and all spectators.
Abilities are presented in the following manner:
Name (Type/Number of Uses/Realm of Use/Period of Use)
Ability text.
Legal values:
Type: Active/Passive/Triggered
Number of Uses: Positive Integer/Unlimited
Realm of Use: Realspace/Cyberspace/Either
Period of Use: Day/Night/Either
Some also have "NA" (not applicable) as a value. Hopefully, they make sense in context.
By default, abilities can only target players in the same realm as the user (and thus, the same realm of use). Exceptions will be noted. Bear in mind that Jacked-In players count as being in Realspace as well as Cyberspace, and that all Realspace abilities used on a Jacked-In player will work exactly as normal.
The text of abilities has been reduced to as simple as possible, with the intention of mirroring the wording of MTG, particularly it’s use of targeting rules. Many mafia “keywords” have been used, so words like “Protect”, “Track”, “Kill” and so on mean exactly what you’d expect in a Mafia context.
A player may only use one active ability (including faction abilities) per phase (Phases are Day and Night). This includes Jacking in or out. Thus, you may use a Day ability and a Night ability the following night, but only one of each.
For an overall example, a standard one-shot vig would have the following ability:
Execute (Active/One/Realspace/Night)
Kill target player
In addition to the standard game thread (“Realspace”), there exists a separate thread representing Cyberspace. It functions much like a normal game, except a character is constrained by their imagination and technical ability rather than physical attributes. The act of moving from one realm to another is known as “Jacking”: you “Jack in” to get to Cyberspace, and you “Jack Out” to return to Realspace.
Each of these two sub games functions like a separate normal game with votes and lynches, days and nights. If a player dies in Realspace, they die; but if they “die” in Cyberspace, they are forced to jack out (“Banned”), return to Realspace and may not re-enter Cyberspace: nothing about their role or alignment is revealed. A player banned via lynch loses their vote for the remainder of that Realspace day.
However, each sub-game is separate from each other: a player can only be active in one world at a time. Players in Realspace can see the Cyberspace thread, but may not post to it. Players in Cyberspace cannot see or post in Realspace. In addition, a player who is in Cyberspace is still “in” the Realspace thread, but does not count towards lynch threshold and are particularly vulnerable to real-world actions. They can even be voted for and lynched like any other player, and can also be the target of Realspace abilities.
Cyberspace and the Real World have simultaneously running days and nights, but is primarily driven by Realspace. Once a lynch is reached in Realspace, night falls in both threads. Once a lynch is reached in Cyberspace, the results are posted, the lynched player enters Realspace and the thread enters an extended Twilight-esque period until the Realspace Day ends.
At the start and end of each day, Moderators of both realms inform it’s denizens of important events that have occurred, including all deaths, replacements and transitions.
Connecting or disconnecting from Cyberspace is a standard night action available to all players. As such, each player has the following abilities:
Jack In: (Active/Unlimited/Realspace/Night)
At the start of the next night, you will enter Cyberspace.
Jack Out.: (Active/Unlimited/Cyberspace/Night)
At the start of the next night, you will leave Cyberspace and re-enter Realspace.
In this game, the Government Agents will be playing the part of the Mafia, while the Bystanders represent the town. Other factions may or may not exist.
The Bystanders win when all threats are stone cold dead.
The Government Agents win when all threats have been eliminated, or when this is inevitable (for example, if the Government agents control the lynch in both realms).
Night is extended by some 12-15 hours from this post, because Toastboy is on a plane and forgot to write the morning scene beforehand. Apologies for the delay.
It is so hard to believe that someone could bus that badly as scum. And I actually liked Zionite's attitude at the end of the day.
But then I was wrong about RR so, shrug.
Also, it appears that I don't completely understand Cyberspace. The intro post says that we have 9 avatars, but also that we have 7. Are Zionite and Zindabad supposed to count toward the 9? I don't really get it. Nor do I get why it takes 6/9 to ban someone from Cyberspace. Nor did I realize that jacking in would mean I couldn't see the Realspace thread(to be fair, this was probably explained and I just didn't grasp it).
Also, it is practically impossible(suck on that Seppel, I said practically) for Cythare and RR to be on the same scum team. So I don't think he is a good choice for being banned from Cyberspace today.
Oh that's right, you mentioned you had the ability earlier. Using it against Zionite gives town points. Could I have you role name and flavor, regardless? Don't mention if you have more shots.

But then I was wrong about RR so, shrug.
Well at least you're consistent. It still feels weird to me but I don't feel good enough about it to voteban you, and no one else here is really worth voting yet either.

I think it might be an accounting issue.
@Mod: Are the number of players in cyberspace and the ban threshold correct?
Also, it is practically impossible(suck on that Seppel, I said practically) for Cythare and RR to be on the same scum team. So I don't think he is a good choice for being banned from Cyberspace today.
I agree with that, but only to an extent. The fact that there was a second ban indicates that there may be a scum banner.
It's not about their being a scum banner. I just don't see how RR claims some ability that his scumbuddy has, then his scumbuddy counterclaims him, then RR modifies his claim(to something that is basically still what he already said) and then his scumbuddy just stops trying to counterclaim him.

Really? Because I can see it: RobRoy botches his claim and claims the ability of his scumbuddy instead. When corrected, RobRoy switches claims and thus Cythare doesn't pursue him anymore, because his claim is now safe.
I'm very surprised that dC was killed. The only thing I can recall dC doing yesterday was arguing in giant walls of text with Cythare. And once RR officially flipped scum, dC was my top suspect for today (he was also acting out of character, far more posty than usual) along with Wheat_Grinder. Speaking of - I see absolutely zero reason for Cythare to put that information into the thread.
Here's what I have to ponder now - are you really that forgetful (regarding Cythare's soft counter-claim of RR), or did you and your buddies collectively think killing dC would make Cythare look bad enough to get the heat turned up on him.
Unless the whole team is playing dumb or you're disconnected from your buddies because your here in Cyberspace, I'm finding the first option more plausible (that you just forgot). For now.
Come to think of it, I'm not real high on the people here in Cyberspace outside of Cythare. Axel had that weird flavor discussion with RobRoy, Cyan certainly wasn't his normal aggressive self, Kraj was non-existent short of the fight with RobRoy, Raging_Levine was non-existent, and W_G continues to be Mr. Agreeable (now Forgetful) pants.
PPE: Except that RR was a Mafia Hitman, so my theory yesterday about what happened is far more likely than what you've proposed. (That being RR tried to claim a non-violent version of his role, ran into a counter-claim and just came clean on "follow-up with the mod" which is where I went from being 95% sure he was scum to 100%.)
At least I'll have plenty of time to think about things; I'm traveling to visit family for Christmas, so I'll be away from the thread from 12/22 - 12/26. Happy Holidays to everyone.
I'm also travelling, so, I'm going to try and check in, but my time is going to be tight from now through at least the 28-29th.
I dislike Cyan atm mainly because of his completely non-sensical attack on me at the end of the day which depended on RR flipping scum. Which Cyan supposedly did not think was going to happen.

The Golden Rule of forums: If you're going to be rude, be right. If you might be wrong, be polite.
The last man walked across the lonely landscape of the higher plane. There used to be others here, but they disappeared pretty quickly. The last one he talked to was the most curious of all; blue, he was, and the last man didn't understand exactly what the blue man meant, but the blue man was gone anyway so he'd never know.
The last man looked up. There were the flickering lights. Something about an Ellenburg guy. The man didn't know who Ellenburg was but figured hell, can't be all that bad. He swore to God though, if it was Iso he would kill someone. Probably Iso.
Though it looked like the last man wouldn't have to. There was no one left on the information superhighway. No Ellenburg, even. Just some lights in his absence.
"Can we have not prods," the man cried as he fell to his knees, "I know it's a holiday, but there's no one here to celebrate it!"
I thought my statement was fairly clear. Zionite and Zindabad are banned. But I don't know what it means to be 'Banned'. Clearly they are not dead(like Descoures and RR are?).
I am trying to figure this out because my role can interact with people that are Banned.

I figured that. But I didn't know if being Banned from Cyberspace actually means anything. If all it means is 'you can't post in Cyberspace', then everyone not named Wheat Grinder and Cyan might as well be 'Banned' from Cyberspace.

Realm positioning affects some abilities, I'm given to understand from the OP.
From the spoilered rules section named "Cyberspace" above:
"Each of these two sub games functions like a separate normal game with votes and lynches, days and nights. If a player dies in Realspace, they die; but if they “die” in Cyberspace, they are forced to jack out (“Banned”), return to Realspace and may not re-enter Cyberspace: nothing about their role or alignment is revealed. A player banned via lynch loses their vote for the remainder of that Realspace day."
In short, they cannot return to Cyberspace. Since they weren't lynched here, they should have their vote in Realspace today.
I'm back, obviously. Looks like I didn't miss much.
Which leads to the logical conclusion that the scum (could be you), can also benefit from them being revealed. "Neat ability" isn't enough for me to buy in.
Probably not. Forgive my modgaming, but I doubt that the drawback exists on more than my ability.
Hey Kraj, how about you?
I think there is way too little confirmed role information at this point to be drawing conclusions about the setup as a whole. I'd love to agree with DYH, but in my experience whenever I make a conclusion about a setup based on good design principles, I'm severely disappointed. At this point, I don't see why you should be fed role information outside of the normal claiming process.

This answer seems far longer than what should be necessary.
Well, I'm back from vacation stuff, but now I'm into New Year's stuff and still don't have much time to play (at least, play mafia. I'm playing games in real life with real people :p)
Clearly not a lot going on in this thread anyway. I am not inclined to toss out my rolename just because someone asks me for it.

I don't think that we should be forcing anyone to claim in Cyberspace, at least not right now. Not when it would only take 2 votes to force someone to claim.

Well then, I'm headed back to Realspace at the next opportunity. If I'm going to be VT, might as well be able to vote.
I've already PMed Eco to ask him A)when I will be able to move back to Realspace and B)how long it takes. Maybe Cyberspace will mean something later, but right now it seems woefully pointless.

My God I actually agree with Cyan on something.
Probably you won't be able to signal intent to move until tonight, and then the move will happen the night after. So it'll be Day 4 before we're back in the real world.
Correct, unless you used the "Jack Out" ability last night, you're stuck here today and tomorrow unless lynched back into Realspace. You wouldn't have your vote today in RS though if that happens.
I have to agree that there's little need to claim in CS. I could see an argument for claiming if someone really wants to stay in CS (if they'll just be vanilla in RS), but it shouldn't be something expected, especially since people in RS can see this thread.
Gentlemen. With the new year, the holiday season is coming to a close, and with it the lax approach toward activity that you may have noticed is also ending. Players who have had not kept up activity are invited to post within 48 hours, or else be prodded. Beware, I will use one of my sharper sticks to do so.

I take issue with that. I was one of the only people who actually posted a case yesterday. After RobRoy came under fire there wasn't much going on other than that, and then I got attacked. I dunno what more you wanted from me.
Refresh my memory, please; who did you post a case on?
I really hate that I can't go back and see the day 1 thread. Like I said, the only thing I recall you doing is decrying the merits of the case on RobRoy and arguing that he was more likely a vig based on partially wrong anecdotal evidence.

In short, they cannot return to Cyberspace. Since they weren't lynched here, they should have their vote in Realspace today.
I'm back, obviously. Looks like I didn't miss much.

It is relevant because I need rolenames. If I get up to a certain number I get a neat ability.
By that logic, we should all just give you our rolenames.
Cythare doesn't need to reveal anything.
Sure, let's do that then.

Why not? Rolenames are of material importance to me.

Hey Kraj, how about you?
Nath'd.
No. My ability has nothing to do with killing.

Bored.
How's that?

Clearly not a lot going on in this thread anyway. I am not inclined to toss out my rolename just because someone asks me for it.
But that brings up a question then, how are we going to handle claiming in Cyberspace? Just L-2?
Well then, I'm headed back to Realspace at the next opportunity. If I'm going to be VT, might as well be able to vote.
My God I actually agree with Cyan on something.
Probably you won't be able to signal intent to move until tonight, and then the move will happen the night after. So it'll be Day 4 before we're back in the real world.
I don't see any need to claim here in CS, either.

I think I'll try to escape the pokes then.
Refresh my memory, please; who did you post a case on?
I really hate that I can't go back and see the day 1 thread. Like I said, the only thing I recall you doing is decrying the merits of the case on RobRoy and arguing that he was more likely a vig based on partially wrong anecdotal evidence.
