Well if I remember right, replacing into a game doesn't count towards the maximum number of games you can be in, does it? Why not just cross advertise for replacements. If host A needs players and host B needs players, host A can tell his people that host B needs a replacement and vice versa. Also, increasing the sign ups to include 15% of your total players as replacements could help. (I.E. a game with 20 players would have to have 3 people sign up as replacements before it can start. and being on one host's replacement list doesn't mean you can't sign up for another host's game.)
And yeah, I think limiting the number of games running to 2-3 basic games, 1-2 specialty games, and like 3 minis (any or all of which can be newbie games) sounds like a good mix. I would also say that we should keep a running list of who all is playing/has played games here and when the last time they played was. Hosts can check the list and make sure that players who haven't played in a long time get *some* preference to get into a game. (Random.org hates us all sometimes.)
These days basic games have replaced newbie games entirely. (meaning basic games are the 'introductory' level, but ideally with more experienced players involved)
I think the current split is 2 mini, 1 normal, 1 speicalty and a FTQ + basic games according to demand. Its in the first post.
Well that explains it. We've got 2 minis, 2 basic, a specialty, and a fast track. I was thinking that fast track just allowed you to jump in line *behind* the current specialty. There are 4 games running with approx 20 players each? No wonder replacements are tough to find.
Holy crap. No wonder we can't find replacements. There are currently 10 games running, which still have 113 living players out of 157. I think we need a thread devoted to who the active players on the site are and what games they're currently in, etc. I know its would be a lot of work to set up, but once its here, it would be pretty simple to keep up with and it would give us a reliable method for deciding when another game should be opened. There are 4 regular sized games running (19+ starting players) and 6 minis (<= 12 starting players). I'd also like to start giving awards (much like the scummies on MS).

I'd be in favor of keeping track of that.
As for awards, we do give out awards on an annual basis. Usually around December.

I love Joboman, Poggy, Niv, and Vezok, because, while they may not be the best players, they still try to win. Having fun is the most important thing to a game, but I've learned that if you don't try to win, then you're ruining everyone else's fun.
If the council agrees to have the thread stickied and appoint someone to keep track of keeping it updated, I'll put in the work and compile the list.
I believe I compiled a prototype census list sometime in the past four months, during the first influx of new players due to the signup link thread. But the amount of work to keep track of where everyone is playing, and whether they're alive...that's simply staggering.
If someone wants to volunteer to do the upkeep work, being able to track our active players and compare that to our capacity would be a tremendous tool for smoothing out game times. But that would be a massive effort, and I think there may be an easier way.
If we simply kept the list dedicated to what players are active, without bothering to update what games they were in, that would still give us a pretty powerful tool. Then, we could simply keep track of what the number of living players slots in the current games to gauge demand, and add and subtract new players as they come and go.
SK, if you're willing to update my initial list of active/inactive players on the site, that would be terrific. I've spoiled my preliminary findings below:

@Azrael- I'll get on that. It might be easier to keep track if we just open one thread and call it "The Player Signup Thread" that will have a listing of all games accepting players and they can /in for whichever they want to play in. It'll be a twofold benefit of keeping track of whos starting in what game as well as not having 2 threads for every game (signup and game).
To present a setup for the fast track, does it need to be finished?
To nominate it? No. You can nominate a setup at any time, so long as you have a reviewer who is willing to review the setup. However, it would probably be a good idea to have the reviewer take a look at it first, and give you suggestions and feedback before nominating it.

Hmm. Interesting idea. The possible drawbacks would be that players would have to /in for particular games, which creates a little extra reading, and also that it would be more difficult to spot when specific signups have gone up. But interesting.
Ok, I'm posting this in multiple places so I can find someone. I need someone who can review my setup for both balance and FTQ worthiness. I'd like to find one person who can do both as I will need as many people as possible to *play* the game. It is a 29 player game with some interesting roles/flavor and no vanilla townies.
Since Hunted Charlie is on hold, (And i dont think he's been here in forever) since mid February; and i havent seen treigit around in a long time, can we get things organized so either one of them go or axel gets ready for his go?

I've sent PMs to both Treigit and Hunted Charlie just in case they are still around and still interested in running a game.
If neither is appearing shortly, then I guess I will be up.

Ambush Krotiq makes me laugh so much. I keep rereading the card and it keeps not having Flash. In what sense is this an ambush again? I just have visions of this huge Krotiq poorly concealed in some bushes, feeling slightly sad that his carefully planned ambushes never seem to work.
I have a game I would like reviewed. I created it when I was really bored in biology, and it's certainly going to take someone daring and very experienced to review it because it encorporates mechanics and things I have never seen in any other mafia game, ever.
I am not sure if it would be normal or specialty, and is very borderline in that regard, but, I before I take it further, I would like to know if it is even viable.
Can anyone tell me what the previous fast-track games have been?

I asked if I could sign up for the basic queue, especially now that the game is in its final night.
It's simpler to not re-list people until their games are all the way over, as opposed to almost being over, if only because different people are going to have different opinions as to what constitutes being "almost" over.
Question: My understanding is that we are not allowed to run Mostly Mute Monk games(most players can make posts of max 3 words, no double posting) due to spam issues.
If someone was to invent, say, Twitter Mafia, could we have a game rule where most players' posts had to be 140 characters or less with no double posts, or would this still be regarded as spammy?

Spam or not spam, counting the number of characters in each post would be the very antithesis of "fun", as well as an incredibly tedious chore for the mod.
But to answer your question, I think it would be fine (though I'm no authority on the subject). If you remove the quote wars and the long-winded analyses, most posts aren't that long. "Twitter Mafia" would pretty much be "Chamber Mafia".
What? So you'd do that for EVERY post? You'd do that as MOD To ensure that every post was the appriopriate length? You'd be running entirely on the honor system, and what if they get it wrong and post too much / too little? What if there's a post WHILE he's typing? He cant EBWODP. He'd have to actually double post.
This is something taht just seems like it would be a nightmare to mod, annoying to play, and would end up violating some kind of spam rule im sure.
Yeah, me too!
Above issues = no play for me.

I only played the first two Ratchet and Clank games. If that's OK, I'm happy to review.

I actually signed up to get on the mini hosting list before EP, so if someone can fix that I'd appreciate it.
Also I'm already working with Stormblind in getting it reviewed.
I asked if I could sign up for the basic queue, especially now that the game is in its final night.
It's simpler to not re-list people until their games are all the way over, as opposed to almost being over, if only because different people are going to have different opinions as to what constitutes being "almost" over.
If that answer is yes, then I would like to be added to the Basic queue.
The answer is yes, so I'll add you.
You can be on one, and only one, of the Mini, Normal, and Specialty lists, but the Basic queue is independent of those.
I'd like to sign up to host a specialty & a basic.
