I had a thing typed up but I lost it, so I just haven't gotten around to redoing it. I did however put in my votes with the official polls for where that counts.
Best Town Performance (Individual)
Cyan - Cyberpunk Mafia
Pretty self-explanatory; he did a fantastic job all around with this game. I might even admit that the successful vig shots were inspired by Cyan's scum picks.
Best Mafia Performance (Individual)
Tom - OFWGKTA Mafia
Ignoring the balance problems of the game, it's still easy to give this one to Tom. No one ever questioned his townieness, not even once.
Best SK Performance (Individual)
Iso - Ozone Underground
Solid play, and super effective.
Best Non-SK Neutral Performance (Individual)
Poggydude - Avatar: The Legend of Aang Mafia
I played on the scum team in this game, and Poggy's removal from the game came at a complete surprise. He never struck me as a neutral, yet he efficiently completed his goal. Nice work.
Best Town Performance (Group)
Cyan's Impossible Mafia (Cyan's Pick)
Popular choice, and I have no issues with it. Town definitely kicked ass.
Best Mafia Performance (Group)
Avatar: The Legend of Aang Mafia
This is a self vote admittedly, but I will have to say that I couldn't have done it without daychat and dragonheart91. We were only a small two-man team, me replacing into a bad position and dragonheart on the cusp of suspicion. But through teamwork we were able to accomplish the impossible and steer the course of the game.
Worst Town Performance (Group)
Avatar: The Legend of Aang Mafia
Of course, the town did ignore every instinct and shred of evidence they had. The regrets spoken at the end of the thread are an indicator that the town knew how awfully they had performed, so this award feels deserved.
Best (False?) Role Claim (Individual)
Iso - Ozone Underground
It's very hard to pull off a good made-up claim. It takes a lot of creativity and a risk with the setup you know little about, especially in something unique like Ozone. He gave me a fairly credible impression from his use of the triple vote, then the rest of his claim seemed legitimate.
Funniest (False?) Role Claim (Individual)
DRey - Kitteh Trek
I didn't personally see any good funny claims, so here's a vote.
Best Town Player
Cyan
Cyan is a consistently good mafia player, especially when the town alignment gives him the confidence he needs to doggedly pursue and pressure suspects. Everyone has a lucky game every now and then, but Cyan makes his own luck through nuanced analysis. Many games this year can attribute their town victory to Cyan's calculated play, earning him Best Town Player for 2012.
Best Mafia Player
The Cold Monarch
This one is tough, as the mafia team's success is never the result of just one good mafia aligned player. However, TCM has been pretty good at flying low while putting on the image he needs to succeed.
Most Entertaining Player
Seppel
Seppel has a very unique approach to playing mafia, and it often strikes me as off-base and totally irrelevant. Then Seppel will switch to the other foot and show off excellent analysis in a surprising way. This drunken master dance is not only irregular and effective, it's also entertaining to watch. A game with Seppel is never dull.
Best Game Design
Zindabad - Seasons Mafia
Widely regarded as a highly successful game with an elegant design, I think Zindabad deserves this one.
Most Creative
Xyre - Ozone Underground
In keeping with his Xyre style, Ozone Underground pushes the boundaries for original role design and world-building flavor. The roles in this game show once again that Xyre has a knack for creating surprising (and fun to play) roles for his players.
Best Flavor
Xyre - Ozone Underground
Despite a handful of flavor hiccups, this game still sticks out as the most fun to actually read for background information. Flavor was so compelling to me in Ozone that I had even dug around The Fiasco Corporation and Asphodel Meadows looking for clues, and eventually chasing ghosts. Xyre is a writer who provokes me to dig deeper into his world and makes me work for my own meaning.
Most Interesting Role
Xyre for David Klein, the Man in the Armani Suit - Ozone Underground
This role was so interesting to me that I got myself lynched over it. The Man in the Armani Suit was (and still is) an enigma, and seeing his appearance in this game deeply unsettled me, enough to drive an obsession. Finding out that I totally drummed up the role's effectiveness was a realization of a clever creation. Hosts with roles are taboo, and that's exactly why Xyre employs it. We as players have no idea what to expect, which only drives our curiosity, submersing us further into the game.
Best Host
KittyCupCake - Deitriptychos
I'll admit I didn't read this one, but as far as mod awards go, KCC deserves Best Host for the critically acclaimed Deitriptychos.
Best Mafia Performance (Individual)
Tom - OFWGKTA Mafia
Ignoring the balance problems of the game, it's still easy to give this one to Tom. No one ever questioned his townieness, not even once.

Makes sense. But this gave me an idea... how about Most Enjoyable Read of the Year? Because sometimes the mod is not that good, the mechanics are not innovative or cool but the player base is so sweet/cool/smart that good stories are generated, heck we could even update the classic/recommended games to boot.
I think it's kinda sad all games there are so old, I don't feel like reading a game where I don't even know anything about anyone who's playing. Take Seasons for example, that game should totally be considered legendary.

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
The game is not being dumbed down. Control is doing fine; Draw-Go is not the only kind of control. Aggro is doing fine; Red Deck Wins is not the only kind of aggro. Creature combat is an important core concept and belongs in every color. Mythic rarity is not destroying the game. People whine too much for no good reason. Magic is more popular than ever, so keep calm, brew some decks and play some damn cards.

I agree that a "Best Read" category is a great idea.
Also, I've been toying with another idea regarding the annual awards. A major problem I see is that people haven't read the majority of the games that ran, so they feel hesitant to vote. However, what if someone (or several people) did a "Year End Review" article of all the games, with highlights, summaries, and special mentions? It solves the problem of people not wanting to read every game to feel informed, but it creates a possible issue of skewing the award results. What do you guys think?
Great idea, I'm already taking notes of the game I'm running, and it will be easy to create an one-paragraph summary of the highlights of the game.

This is a good idea. Now that there's more and more games overall throughout the year, more and more FTQs and notable games, and fewer players who are able to participate in each of the notable setups, we could probably use that. I imagine the folks who played in those games should simply volunteer their impressions.
