@wheatgrinder: when did you first decide to fake a pr and what was your original thought behind it? This is key.
During the pregame at least. I'm not sure if it was before I received my role or after, but I'd probably have to say after.
I'm not sure which thoughts you mean, so I'll detail most of what went through my head while deciding to do so.
At first, I thought I would do it for fun, and was thinking of having a posting restriction in which I posted like tsundere (I would say I hate people when speaking to them directly, and say I love them when talking about them with someone else.)
I eventually decided against that as I realized that it would be hard for people to realize my true intentions if I was flip-flopping so badly. Besides, it would be more easily caught, I figured, as magical girl doesn't exactly correlate to a tsundere personality, which is more of an anime concept than necessarily just magical girls.
I then thought perhaps I could post in Latin, as magic is often cast in Latin or faux-Latin. It would be harder and less fun, but I had begun to think about what potential benefit faking a PR would have. This way I would be able to say what I meant (more or less, depending on how finnicky the translator decided to be). I started to think that people's reactions might help me figure out who the scum were, and so have extra benefit.
Once the game began, I didn't catch any reactions early, and that coupled with the fact that some were ignoring me because of my posting restriction, I decided that I would drop it day 2. I decided that I would say I was "cursed" by a member of the mafia, hoping to draw a confused reaction from the scum, who obviously wouldn't have that ability. Once I caught them, I would reveal it was faked.
And then as you kept calling me out on faking it, I decided that there were benefits to coming clean immediately as well, which I have already said.
I don't see faking a PR as either scummy or townie. I just see it as, for the most part, stupid.
Wheat claims he did it as a reaction troll. If that's true, it's one of the worst ideas for a reaction troll I've ever seen, especially had he really carried it to Day 2.
The problem with calling it a scum only gambit as some of you seem to be doing is, what benefit does he get that he wouldn't get from simply lurking instead? And once it's revealed to be fake, he's bound to get a lot of attention for it. Something Scum typically want to avoid.
Faking a PR is clearly an anti-town action. But Townies perform anti-town actions all the time, as DH already demonstrated this game.
That doesn't mean I think it Townie to fake a PR. I think it a null tell overall, but if pressed, I'd suspect it slightly more likely for a Townie to attempt than Scum. Only slightly though.
Then I'd appreciate a paragraph at least acknowledging the case and why the points don't convince you. Hell, even just one sentence would be a novel coming from you.
What part of leaning town and there are better choices did you miss? No offense to Void bu the is not the strongest player. If he is scum, which I doubt I would rather deal with the good ones and worry about him later.
@Tordeck: Your reaction-trolling brought nothing readable. If I'd posted earlier in the day instead of heading out to get food, I would have voted you as well.
I disagree. It worked exactly the way I wanted it too. D_V vehemently attempted a policy lynch regardless of my alignment which is anti-town behavior in the greatest form and Arnnaria came out of nowhere with a vote on the low hanging fruit. I caught at least 2 scum with it.
I'm ignoring the Void case until Void posts a response. I'm perfectly happy with my vote on Iso and don't see a reason to change. That's not to say I'm not going to read Void's response and consider switching if he looks scummy, but until void DOES respond, I don't see any reason to comment.
If Void starts posting and blatantly ignores the case, that would be scummy as hell. But until he either starts posting something, or gets replaced, I'm content with my vote on Iso and just ignoring the Void case until then.
6 sentences and 2 paragraphs to say the same thing twice over. :raisedeyebrow:
@wheaties, faking PR = bad. Intentions behind faking PR = good. Yeah, your staying in the neutral read pile for now.
I personally think it would be a waste of time because there is too much garbage surrounding the wagon because of DH's trolling. Garbage in, garbage out.
Fair enough.
I may do it anyway. Haven't had any time to progress the meta stuff because I've been going to the store and cooking a bunch of things since yesterday.
Analyzing interactions on day 1 and letting it shape your scum team is patently stupid in my opinion so youll have to excuse me for not seein any validity to your question despite its punctuation.
Then I suppose we'll have to theory-disagree.
I think W_G's faked PR is null - the two PRs I've seen faked (one of which were by me) were both by town in games I've been in.

Apparently the Meta here is VASTLY different than I'm used to.
What is it about "ANTI" - "TOWN" that makes people seem to think, "hey, I should act that way so I can gauge reactions and once I come clean everyone will magically believe it was just a ploy"? DH did it. Tordeck did it. Wheat did it. Seppel has promised to do it if Town doesn't cave to his wishes.
That's 4 people that have admitted to it in this game. There's a few others I would argue are doing it as well, though they don't admit it and it's more debatable with them.
If it is the norm here to allow such blatant anti-town behavior, then what the hell do you use to catch Scum when they can just claim whatever they were doing was to gauge reactions?

Well I figured there'd be a chance I'd be lynched, but I hoped that once I flipped town then the caught scum would be lynched or vigged, negating the loss.

The problem I have with you, DH and Tordeck is that the reactions you get are tainted by the fact you were acting Scummy.
For example, Tordeck claims he caught D_V with his gambit. I disagree. In fact, I wholeheartedly agree with D_V's position on lynching people for acting Scummy. Whether you call it a policy lynch or just good common sense, lynching someone for acting Scummy should be applauded, not seen as suspicious!
And even if you believe the person about it being a gambit, I'm still not opposed to the policy lynch for it. Anti-Town behavior is ANTI-TOWN BEHAVIOR and should be punished, not blithely accepted. When you find someone who repeatedly tries to harm the Town, which is what anti-town behavior does no matter how much you want to argue your intentions, then you need to break them of that habit for the good of the meta at large.
When you have such a case, I'm all for the Policy lynch. I'll weigh the need of "fixing" the meta against the strength of any scumhunting cases and vote where I think it is most needed.
In this game's case, we have so much Anti-Town behavior going on, that policy lynching seems to be futile and is why I asked why the meta here seems so drastically different from what I'm used to to the point of actually (apparently) encouraging anti-town behavior. With that in mind, I cannot follow D_V's push for a policy lynch on this, but I cannot call him scum for it either.
I have him as leaning Scum. In fact, behind you, he'd be my next choice of a lynch.
Tordeck behaved almost identically to the way you have. Tordeck has since claimed his anti-town behavior was an act. I'm not sure I believe him and even if I do, I'm not sure he shouldn't be punished anyway.
But you've acted in an anti-town fashion and are still refusing to acknowledge that anything you've done was anti-town. That gives you some points for consistency, but since you've been consistently scummy, those points don't count for much.

Which is what frustrates me because he's so adamant about catching "low hanging fruit" against me. No, it's not catching low hanging fruit. It's being upset beyond comprehension that he thought this behavior was acceptable after the mod told us a) that this behavior was not acceptable and b) modkilled a player for said unacceptable behavior.
I mean, hells bells, we even had to get a forum moderator involved in our game because players were more intent on lobbing shots at one another than playing a decent game.
So if wanting to policy lynch a guy who can't obey simple rules is scummy; then string me up, I'm scum. Voting for Tordeck is the only "sportsmanlike" thing I can do at this point. The next option is me hitting the "ignore" button and playing the game as if he was no longer in it.
Taking things out of context is fine right? I mean, everything else I thought was Scummy is apparently acceptable around here, so this must be too, right?

It's ok Arn I'm the flamer and troll he did nothing to contribute to anything. He's perfect. It's all my fault.
As a side note telling people to piss off and dodging language filters with using words like Frack is completely acceptable.
I just want everyone in this game to know that since the moderators have told me as much.
That's nothing new.
Over on the EA forums (for Tiger Woods 13) I discovered it was perfectly okay for me to say "I grow my own pot. I spent all weekend smoking dope.", but when I tried to say "You can set filters to weed out the people that disconnect a lot", the word "weed" got censored!

True, but the inherit purpose of language filters is to stop X word from being said. Doing something with numbers to say the word in question would be an infractable offense but saying a word that means the same thing is ok? And by that I mean refers to the same word just as using a number to spell the word out would be.
Go ahead, "punish" me. What will it accomplish? A dead townie. Thats it. I pulled a gambit, a risky one I admit but a gambit none the less. Lynching someone because of "policy" is bull**** and even scummier than the actions that instigated it. Its a weak case used by scum to get an easy mislynch.
[QUOTE=Arnnaria;/comments/10842593]a) that this behavior was not acceptable and b) modkilled a player for said unacceptable behavior.
The mod forbid the flame fest that accompanied DH. Not the game actions that DH was performing.
Your caught scum and now trying to take the moral high ground defense. Not going to work.
dodging language filters with using words like Frack is completely acceptable.
I in no way attempted to dodge the censor. I used alternative word from a scifi show. The same as when we were kids and used "holy shniekes" instead of holy ****.
And if the mods feel otherwise then they are free to infract me. But if they do they better damn well infract you for every troll and flame you through into this thread.
When you're voting for a claimed Neutral on Day 1 and there are MUCH better targets to vote for, it's anti-town.
1. Ahlyis is from another site and is used to different styles of gameplay, so the fact that you are still stuck on this point proves that you are either hardcore tunneling players or you just don't care about the details that matter.
2. Much better targets are subjective. What you think is a very good target others will think is a poorly chosen target, case in point: Meg. You trying to push your case onto Ahlyis and then finding reasons to call him scum once he rejects your offer for his own voting thought process is the real scummy bits here.
I have pointed out every single time you've lied in this game and cited it and yet you keep repeating yourself. You'll have to pardon me for not constantly digging up quotes that I've already referenced.
I've explained everything you call a lie. I've responded to you calling me a liar numerous times, each with sound proof that I'm either A. not lying or B. not understanding and argument clearly, thus dropping the point. Mostly, it's A. I think you just like namecalling, trying to smear my name in an attempt to discredit me. Also, it's totally indicative of your tunneling.
That, plus you ignore the part where I call you out on tunnelvisioning, so I can only assume that you agree with it.
Analyzing interactions on day 1 and letting it shape your scum team is patently stupid in my opinion so youll have to excuse me for not seein any validity to your question despite its punctuation.
This. This so so very much. Iso's calling people scum for their buddying before he's even seen his first suspects alignment. It's total WIFOM, it's got potential to confuse the town and it's a poor substitute for actually scumhunting. Iso's trying to take easy street and is failing pretty hard at it.

Or...
It's not a "case" at all, but an attempt at players, regardless of alignment, banding together to get someone to recognize that they are HURTING THE GAME with their actions. An attempt to get them to STOP hurting the game with those actions.
In the past I've thrown my full weight into policy lynch attempts, both as Scum and as Town. I do it when I feel the good of the game as a whole is in jeopardy and I do it knowing full well that it may hurt my team during the current game, but that it is necessary for the long term health of the game.
Px2 is nearly dead now. I can't say it is because we didn't policy lynch enough, but I certainly think certain anti-town actions which were allowed contributed to the current state of affairs. But that's neither here nor there. This forum doesn't appear to be in any imminent danger of dying. But I do wonder about the health of the Meta given the actions I've seen so far in this game.
This is your first game here. I would step back before passing judgement on an entire group of players that you dont know.\
When the game is over, go talk to DH. He too is fairly new here and one of the things he learned quick was this aint your grandma's meta.
Actually, he's in Basic 64, that's his first game, although I will say it's full of Px2ers and is tamer than this game. Again, ongoing, that's all I wanna say about it.

What do you mean? If someone had told me there was indeed a magical girl that can only talk in a specific foreign or old language, then I would have been more inclined to believe that he indeed was telling the truth. If someone would have convinced me there was no such magical girl, or at least as long as no one would have answered me, I would have kept W_G on my 'to watch' list. What do you mean with the different avenues to go down?
To see what Audinho's mindset was.
You asked me a question. You cared enough about it to ask me it twice.
And then once I gave an answer, you dropped it immediately, without saying anything.
We're at a rest stop for early dinner, so might as well get a votecount while I can.
Void (7) - Wessel, Seppel, Cyouni, AsianInvasion, Megiddo, Arcadic, Deaths_Vampire
Iso (4) - Ahlyis, Tordeck, Infinis, kpaca
Tordeck (2) - Arnnaria, Wheat_Grinder
Megiddo (2) - Guardman, Prophylaxis
Audinho (1) - Void
GrickyTimmick (1) - Iso
Wessel (1) - Archmage_eternal
With 22 Alive it's still 12 to lynch.
I may have a replacement for Fluffyn00b, and zajnet's V/LA ends this saturday. I'll reassess his status at that point.

There you go again with making up facts. You havnt "proven" anything. Youve said things. You however are convinced youve "proven things", and thus resort to your two thematic argument responses which I outlined above.
Thus you continue to have the same teeth grindingly pointless discussions over and over. Eventually youre going to have to accept you quite franklqy have no clue what you are talking about and then youll probably find yourself gettng a lot further and shaping your theory and mafiaskill for the better.

Again, typical Iso scumgame is to make baseless assumptions and use tiny evidence to tie people together and string up mislynches.
I agree with further pressure on Iso. He has rocketed to the top of my scumlist

He can't because he doesn't actually have any evidence towards anyone he's pushing. I mean, seriously, he switched his vote to Megs after blatantly calling Gricky out for "misreps". Town Iso just doesn't let things go.
Youre wrong to say youve proven things because you have not proven things.
Iso proves things by speaking. Then someone writes it down and preeches it to the masses.
Arnnaria needs to scumhunt, not just comment on the game.
AsianInvasion is actively lurking at this point. He has far too many drive-by comments on the game with zero hint of actual scumhunting.
That's the full story of my posting restriction.
What part of leaning town and there are better choices did you miss? No offense to Void bu the is not the strongest player. If he is scum, which I doubt I would rather deal with the good ones and worry about him later.
I disagree. It worked exactly the way I wanted it too. D_V vehemently attempted a policy lynch regardless of my alignment which is anti-town behavior in the greatest form and Arnnaria came out of nowhere with a vote on the low hanging fruit. I caught at least 2 scum with it.
6 sentences and 2 paragraphs to say the same thing twice over. :raisedeyebrow:
@wheaties, faking PR = bad. Intentions behind faking PR = good. Yeah, your staying in the neutral read pile for now.
The Family
Fair enough.
I may do it anyway. Haven't had any time to progress the meta stuff because I've been going to the store and cooking a bunch of things since yesterday.

Which players are saying it is a scum-only gambit?
Well I figured there'd be a chance I'd be lynched, but I hoped that once I flipped town then the caught scum would be lynched or vigged, negating the loss.
Do you think Tordeck is town?

I don't recall, but there were some that were saying you were likely scum, not that only scum could do it.
So we all should vote Arn now, right?
/sarcasm
It's ok Arn I'm the flamer and troll he did nothing to contribute to anything. He's perfect. It's all my fault.
I just want everyone in this game to know that since the moderators have told me as much.
I will be shocked if Arrnaria is scum; he acted very similarly during Day One of Avatar Mafia.
Vote Void
When he comes back and responds I'll read it. But I am pretty sold.
My lynch order.
Void

fluffyn00b
True, but the inherit purpose of language filters is to stop X word from being said. Doing something with numbers to say the word in question would be an infractable offense but saying a word that means the same thing is ok? And by that I mean refers to the same word just as using a number to spell the word out would be.
So, whats the difference? Hint there isn't one.
Your caught scum and now trying to take the moral high ground defense. Not going to work.
The Family
Just so you know, I meant that Kpaca gets more Cred for being a damn good mafia player, not town cred or anything related to the game.
This. This so so very much. Iso's calling people scum for their buddying before he's even seen his first suspects alignment. It's total WIFOM, it's got potential to confuse the town and it's a poor substitute for actually scumhunting. Iso's trying to take easy street and is failing pretty hard at it.
You don't even see what a troll and flamer you are.
It's a joke at this point.
I thought I was supposed to stop talking to you so why are you talking to me?
The Family
Actually, he's in Basic 64, that's his first game, although I will say it's full of Px2ers and is tamer than this game. Again, ongoing, that's all I wanna say about it.
Could I trouble you to look for them?
Then I find it acceptable.
You asked me a question. You cared enough about it to ask me it twice.
And then once I gave an answer, you dropped it immediately, without saying anything.

No? I'm telling him to get off the Neutral shtick and scumhunt. Pay. Attention. Stop. Misrepping.
I think I'm just done responding to you.

My point exactly. Discussions with you are fruitless, hence you keep hearing the same things over and over.

Iso's scumgame is to make people do his work for him, while he makes blanket statements without ever qualifying them.
Again, typical Iso scumgame is to make baseless assumptions and use tiny evidence to tie people together and string up mislynches.
I didn't know you were in the game ether.
He can't because he doesn't actually have any evidence towards anyone he's pushing. I mean, seriously, he switched his vote to Megs after blatantly calling Gricky out for "misreps". Town Iso just doesn't let things go.
Yes, yes i agree. Him or Void is a perfect lynch for today.
Iso proves things by speaking. Then someone writes it down and preeches it to the masses.
Arnnaria needs to scumhunt, not just comment on the game.
AsianInvasion is actively lurking at this point. He has far too many drive-by comments on the game with zero hint of actual scumhunting.
