A fast-paced, relentless game of mafia for 12 players, reviewed by PariahKing/ProphetKing.
Basic Rules
1) When you are dead, do not post at all.
2) Do not edit or delete your posts. Do not quote any private messages, including Role PMs (though due to the sparseness of Role PMs, you may at least list your rolename, skills, and number of uses, in your own words). Do not threaten to be modkilled. You will be modkilled if you do any of those things.
3) No crypto-claiming or crypto-text.
4) Everyone has the power to vote. Vote in bold or your vote does not count.
5) You do not need to unvote before changing your vote.
6) Players may only perform one move per day.
7) The moderator will not answer game-related questions in the thread. If you have a question, send the moderator a PM.
8) Have fun.
Ability Types
All abilities in this game are passive (P), single-use (1), double-use (2), or triple-use (3). Passive abilities are always in effect. Each ability falls under one of six types. Not all types may appear in the game:
* Earth: The bending of earth. (Abilities)
* Fire: The bending of fire. (Abilities)
* Water: The bending of water. (Abilities)
* Air: The bending of air. (Abilities)
* Energy: The bending of life energy. (Abilities)
* Spirit: Spiritual powers and non-bending abilities.
A player with no remaining special moves retains one ability:
-(P, Spirit) Vanilla (You have no special moves.)
Special Rules
There is no night phase. Instead, each day is separated into two parts: Morning (Before abilities) and Evening (After abilities).
* Morning (Before abilities): Lasts (# of players) real life days. All players must submit abilities before the end of Morning. You can change your abilities and targets at any time before the end of Morning. There will be a brief no-posting period to resolve all abilities. This period will last no longer than 24 hours.
* Evening (After abilities): Lasts (# of players) real life days. If there is no majority by the end of the day, the day will end in no lynch.
Additionally:
1) It takes a vote majority to lynch, 50% to no-lynch, and 50% to move to evening.
2) If a voting decision is reached before Evening, then the voted player will be lynched immediately (or a no-lynch will immediately occur). Then there will be up to a 48-hour "Twilight" period to get all actions in. Then actions will resolve and the next day will begin.
3) Due to the fast pace of the game, players are expected to be able to post at least once every 24 hours. If you are unable to post within a 48-hour period, you will be replaced. Please don't be replaced.
Normal day progression: [Morning] -> [Abilities] -> [Evening] -> [Lynch] -> [Morning]
Early lynch progression: [Morning] -> [Lynch] -> [Abilities] -> [Morning]
Win Conditions
The mafia wins by fulfilling one of the two following tasks:
Task 1: Equal or outnumber the anti-Fire Nation forces.
Task 2: Live to the end of Day 5 and ensure that Aang is dead.
The town wins by fulfilling one of the two following tasks:
Task 1: Eliminate those loyal to Fire Lord Ozai Task 2: If Aang is alive at the beginning of Day 6, the town wins.
The hitman wins by fulfilling one of the two following tasks:
Task 1: Kill the Moon Spirit by the end of Combat 2. If anyone else kills the Moon Spirit or the Moon Spirit is lynched, you will not be able to complete this task. Task 2: Live to the end of Day 5 and keep Aang alive.
* The game will continue if the hitman wins.

Avatar Aang is on his way to the North Pole! The Fire Nation has been tracking his movements and will stop at nothing to see his demise! Protect Aang on his journey. He is expected to arrive within 12 days.
It is now Morning 1. You have 12 days (until June 3 @ 7 AM EST) to PM your actions to me. You may change your actions at any time.
With 12 alive, it is 7 to lynch, 6 to no-lynch, or 6 to move to Evening.
Same thing I ask in every game: if you're a woman or are trans (or just like to be referred to your name instead of pronouns like Niv), let me know so I don't go pissing people off throughout the rest of the thread.

You will refer to me as "god"
Haven't played with many of these players in a while, feels good.
This game has harsh time limits and we have decisions to make immediately, I don't think there is time for this random voting garbage. There is a unique opportunity here because of the morning/evening mechanic: The town basically gets to choose whether we want a Day start or a Night start. (Based on when we lynch.)
Morning lynch advantages and disadvantages:
+The lynch happens before the mafia kill
-The total phase length is shortened
-We have less information to use when we lynch
Evening lynch advantages and disadvantages:
+Increased information gathering because abilities will have fired
+We get 12 more days of phase length
+We have an option to lynch twice in a row back-to-back before the mafia kill again
-The mafia will kill someone (barring abilities? I don't know what else could be flying around)
It looks like the pros and cons favor lynching in the Evening, but I could be missing something. What do you guys think?

RVS sucks.
Blah blah, vote somebody, unvote somebody, etc.
@Arn: he, as usual.
Also for reference, my machine is down still, so I'll be unable to multiquote and my posts will be sparse, for me.
For now, I suggest we take it slow. Can everyone agree to having no lynches happen during the Morning phases of the game? No hurry as far as I can see.

Don't forget Dragon, it's really in the Towns best interest to either a) lynch scum as fast as possible or b) drag the days out as long as possible.
If Aang is alive by Day Six, we win. But that means 6 NK's and any number of lynches. 6 NK's minus 3 scum is 9. Even if we run out the days that's 3 town left, or a 25% chance to win.
So, it really is in the best interest to lynch scum. But, if I'm reading the scenario right, it actually might be advantageous to "no lynch" a couple of nights too.
No Lynch becomes advantageous if we don't the scum is going to be completely eliminated but there are enough players left to reasonably assure Aang's survival. (If we get confirmed protectors/doctors by then, that might help too.)
Because of the alternate win condition, we have two ways to play this game. The normal rush forward and kill the mafia is still totally viable, but stalling and protecting Aang might work as well. The problem is, we don't have enough information yet to determine which is the most viable way to play. We will gain a lot after the first Combat Phase. (Which is now what I'll be calling the time between Morning and Evening when abilities go off.) Our two win conditions conflict pretty heavily as well, so we really need to have a good plan and know which one we are pursuing as early as possible.

In response to me defeating the town in a Perfect Scum Victory in Avatar Mafia:
I vote we scum hunt for the first three days. If the games complexity makes it hard to find scum/keep Aang alive, we vote again after three cycles on whether we continue to scum hunt or stall the Fire Benders out.
A scum lynch in the Morning may limit the number of abilities the scum have access to during "Combat," but the increased risk of lynching with less information doesn't seem worth it. If I weren't afraid that the scum have a kill that can bypass protective abilities, I would suggest a mass-claim.

All a mass claim will do is give the scum a Process of Elimination as to who Aang is. Unless, we have some crazy reincarnation shenanigans going on (which fits the flavor of the game). I don't want to go all "flavor aid" on everyone, but a mass claim is the last thing we need if our goal is protecting the Avatar.
If we attempt to drag out the days, there's a massively higher chance that the scum will find Aang and kill him. The time limit just makes this a shortened-Day mini. If we attempt to stall them out when we start in a bad position, we have a higher chance of losing.
The alternate win condition is most likely best used if we eliminate 1 or 2 scum early and don't have any good leads on the remaining scum. Use it from an advantageous point, not from one of weakness.
My personal preference would be to get a suspect before the end of the Morning so that any important actions can be used, with lynching in the Evening.

Unvote, Vote AsianInvasion. Suggesting a mass-claim in a game like this is just so bad an idea, I don't even.

As WoD has already suggested, a MC here is bad bad bad bad BAD! What worries me more though is the fact you suggest that scum could have a kill that bypasses protective abilities. That is fearmongering and possible hinting at inside knowledge to me.
As for the game setup... I think for now scumhunting is in our best interests, though one has to remember this is a variant of Assassin in the Palace. And we do have the option later on once scum count is reduced to go this route.
I did. I just strongly dislike the vote after AI has made, what, one post?
Mass claim

There, now I've said the words Mass Claim, too. AI made it clear he's not in favor of a mass claim because of the risk involved and he's garnering votes because of it. I strongly disaprove, and people voting him for his reason are officially on the "need votes" list.
After Manders of course.

Meh, to each their own, Artifice. I do find it funny though that you want votes on Manders yet don't want to vote Manders.
Also guys, I think we are misreading the rules on lynches here. If we lynch in the morning we SKIP the evening phase and move on to the next DAY'S Morning phase. Just something to consider.

Or perhaps I spent more than five seconds thinking about the setup. If there is a full town doctor/jailer in the game and the scum don't have an unblockable kill, they may as well concede now.

+town
Is it merely a coincidence that Tanarin RVS-voted Wrath_of_DoG, then /barned him to vote me? (Spoiler alert: Probably not.)
I'm pretty sure [Manders]'s town because if she was scum she would be voting me by now.
First, why?
Second, didn't you see where she's trying to proactively claim she'll be lurking? I mean it is always possible she's genuinely envious of Seppel pulling off this "achievement" and wants to manage it herself, but I'm thinking it is more than equally possible she's pre-defending a plan of active lurking.
Basically, lets look at how she reacted to being given a post restriction of only posting every 24 hours in Flame Warriors Mafia. Frankly and flatly, she was pissed. But in this game she's self-imposing a similar restriction? Nope. Not buying it.

See Peso del Grande. Granted, we were scumbuddies in that game, but her overall demeanor there was outrageously over the top, tunneling me when no one else was even looking in my direction, with the eventual goal of Daykilling me for town cred. I'm not sure how much I can generalize that statement with regards to any sort of meta read, but it's still early.

IIRC, she notified us in the signup thread that she won't be able to post as much as usual for OoG reasons. I would have been suspicious if she were posting more than the stated amount.
I'm more than willing to lynch Tanarin as well, when I'm done working out what Manders is up to. He comes off worse of the two [WoD/Tan].All of this after Evening kicks over, of course. I do NOT want to waste town power, and I'm willing to risk the scum getting whatever they get to do as well.
Also, @Arn: thanks, I suppose. You play better than you give yourself credit. I've been quietly impressed (Anyone can call that buddying if they like. Arn may evaluate it as such as well. Please, be suspicious of me. If you're not, you're not paying nearly enough attention for my liking.)

What prevents the scum from simply hunting down and shooting the doctor/jailer?

Do you have a particular reason for wanting to lynch Tanarin?

That part in the parentheses seems odd. It feels as though it's intentionally seeding WIFOM into the scenario.
First of all, I didn't. Secondly, the comment was a conversation starter. I don't think it's a stretch to state that I was wholly successful in that endeavor.
What prevents the scum from simply hunting down and shooting the doctor/jailer?
It's pretty hard to do that if the town simply elects to No-Lynch every Day. It'd be kind of a lame way to play the game, to be sure, which is another reason I believe the scum likely have a one- or two-shot unblockable kill.
First of all, I didn't. Secondly, the comment was a conversation starter. I don't think it's a stretch to state that I was wholly successful in that endeavor.
You said that if it weren't for the chance that the scum have some sort of unblockable kill (you'd know, Sylar :P), you'd suggest a mass-claim. Why?
So expect this to be my smallest post in this game.
Unless I have good reasons presented, I see no reason to play this game differently than any other, mechanics be damned. It's Mafia.
And I certainly am not for a mass-claim, and frown at AI even mentioning it.
This post is so bad. Why would you try to make excuses for yourself to lurk? I'm not voting for you because I don't want to lynch before Evening, but FOS: MadersHex
As for the mass claiming, I agree that it's completely stupid. This game could easily turn into an assassinate the king game and we can't afford to give up our advantage. In addition, I think it's important to play everything in this game close to our chests. Remember that Seppel said we would have to play our tightest games ever to succeed here. There's no room for us to mass claim and just hope for the best.
I did. I just strongly dislike the vote after AI has made, what, one post?
Mass claim

After Manders of course.
We are going to get along really well this game. I'm starting to realize how good of a player you are when you don't replace out.
*snip* Or perhaps I spent more than five seconds thinking about the setup. If there is a full town doctor/jailer in the game and the scum don't have an unblockable kill, they may as well concede now.*snip*
If I'm reading the OP right, then no active ability in this game is more than 3-shot. Any full Doctor/Jailer we have would only have three shots max.
All abilities in this game are passive (P), single-use (1), double-use (2), or triple-use (3).
That alone should be reason enough not to full claim - especially early in the game.
P.S. I want to echo the sentiment that this is an all-star game. There are a few somewhat weaker players, (like potentially myself - I did really badly in Cyberpunk) but overall we have a great collection of skilled players. This is good too, because I definitely feel like this game is going to be a true skill test. We have far more choices being presented to us than in a normal game, and figuring out how to best maximize them is an exciting prospect.

Firstly, why is everyone so adament about killing the one stage in Mafia that I have always enjoyed? RVS should thrive, at least for a bit. I go to work and BAM it's dead.

The analysis on the Alt. Wincon here is good. Also like the last paragraph. If the morning deadline is approaching, we should at least compile a strong suspect group. Cy's analysis is good right off the bat.
Unvote, Vote AsianInvasion. Suggesting a mass-claim in a game like this is just so bad an idea, I don't even.
I've figured it out already, but if I were there when this was posted, I'd ask "Is this for real?". AI didn't suggest a massclaim. Even if AI had, AI has advocated a MC in almost every town game I've seen him in. The man is nuts for Mass Claims. I see this as poor vote reasoning.
As WoD has already suggested, a MC here is bad bad bad bad BAD! What worries me more though is the fact you suggest that scum could have a kill that bypasses protective abilities. That is fearmongering and possible hinting at inside knowledge to me.

I've posted paragraphs incredibly similar to the first one as scum trying to gain townie points many a time. Pinged my scumdar. A weak attack IMO.
I feel like I'm playing in an All Star game. You guys are amazing on your reads and tells. I'm gonna have to up my game for this one.
This is more of a null/leaning scum tell, but I read it as a newb version of sucking up. The game hasn't nearly gone anywhere and yet there's "amazing reads and tells". From what I'm seeing, it's just everyone arguing over game mechanics and throwning their votes like they are playing pin the tail on the scummy player.
Tell me Arn, who are you specifically impressed by?
I'm more than willing to lynch Tanarin as well, when I'm done working out what Manders is up to. He comes off worse of the two [WoD/Tan].All of this after Evening kicks over, of course. I do NOT want to waste town power, and I'm willing to risk the scum getting whatever they get to do as well.

You post here is what, post 39? And you are already willing to lynch someone? Show me the case sir, show me these mountainous piles of scumproof you have on Tan somewhere in the 38 previous posts.
I guess I should reread what you've said on Tan so far, but this speedy attitude of yours doesn't impress me much.
You said that if it weren't for the chance that the scum have some sort of unblockable kill (you'd know, Sylar :P), you'd suggest a mass-claim. Why?
This is a good question that I'd like to know the answer too, but just finished reading and it's got something to do with AI's role information, so no, I'd rather leave it alone. Mass claim isn't happening, move along, nothing to see here. Still, like that Cy is asking the tough questions.

Game Status:
-Game Over
It is now Morning 1.
Vote GrickyTimmick for possibly being Iso.
Vote Iso when he replaces in.
Vote Wrath_of_Dog
For not knowing Gricky is not an Iso Gimmick. We all know he is actually a Seppel gimmick.

You will refer to me as "god"
Haven't played with many of these players in a while, feels good.
LOL
Have we ever played in a game together?
Morning lynch advantages and disadvantages:
+The lynch happens before the mafia kill
-The total phase length is shortened
-We have less information to use when we lynch
Evening lynch advantages and disadvantages:
+Increased information gathering because abilities will have fired
+We get 12 more days of phase length
+We have an option to lynch twice in a row back-to-back before the mafia kill again
-The mafia will kill someone (barring abilities? I don't know what else could be flying around)
It looks like the pros and cons favor lynching in the Evening, but I could be missing something. What do you guys think?
Blah blah, vote somebody, unvote somebody, etc.
@Arn: he, as usual.

@Dragon Evening lynch sounds better to me
And lets not try to achieve the "keep aang alive" win, lets actually put some effort in and scum hunt.
LOL
I'm going to try to obtain this achievement:
So expect this to be my smallest post in this game.
Unless I have good reasons presented, I see no reason to play this game differently than any other, mechanics be damned. It's Mafia.
And I certainly am not for a mass-claim, and frown at AI even mentioning it.

Let's count up all the players that appear to be acting helpfully as well... Nah, let's not. It has been virtually everyone.

Unvote
As WoD has already suggested, a MC here is bad bad bad bad BAD! What worries me more though is the fact you suggest that scum could have a kill that bypasses protective abilities. That is fearmongering and possible hinting at inside knowledge to me.
As for the game setup... I think for now scumhunting is in our best interests, though one has to remember this is a variant of Assassin in the Palace. And we do have the option later on once scum count is reduced to go this route.

However, wasn't there a consensus not to lynch anyone in the morning? To save our lynch for the evening after abilities have taken place?
So this vote is for why? Be specific, please.

Vote manders because I don't like someone claiming they will post less on purpose.
**** trick daddy
LOL
Mass claim
Mass claim
mass claim
There, now I've said the words Mass Claim, too. AI made it clear he's not in favor of a mass claim because of the risk involved and he's garnering votes because of it. I strongly disaprove, and people voting him for his reason are officially on the "need votes" list.
After Manders of course.

Also guys, I think we are misreading the rules on lynches here. If we lynch in the morning we SKIP the evening phase and move on to the next DAY'S Morning phase. Just something to consider.

I'll give you another chance to read what I posted before you respond further.
I'm pretty sure she's town because if she was scum she would be voting me by now.
You noticed that as well?

See Peso del Grande. Granted, we were scumbuddies in that game, but her overall demeanor there was outrageously over the top, tunneling me when no one else was even looking in my direction, with the eventual goal of Daykilling me for town cred. I'm not sure how much I can generalize that statement with regards to any sort of meta read, but it's still early.
IIRC, she notified us in the signup thread that she won't be able to post as much as usual for OoG reasons. I would have been suspicious if she were posting more than the stated amount.
What do you make of it?

Oh wow, I didn't know that I couldn't agree with someone I random voted. Consider me caught scum.

Thanks for giving me permission. I would have felt really awkward lynching you without it.
Vote Tanarin
Also, @Arn: thanks, I suppose. You play better than you give yourself credit. I've been quietly impressed (Anyone can call that buddying if they like. Arn may evaluate it as such as well. Please, be suspicious of me. If you're not, you're not paying nearly enough attention for my liking.)

Try again. (Amusing typo, though.)
And why would we do this?
Why would you suggest a mass-claim?
What prevents the scum from simply hunting down and shooting the doctor/jailer?
This response seems oddly sarcastic given the circumstances.
Do you have a particular reason for wanting to lynch Tanarin?
That part in the parentheses seems odd. It feels as though it's intentionally seeding WIFOM into the scenario.
I'm curious as to how you missed where it was mentioned that it had been stated before the game.
First of all, I didn't. Secondly, the comment was a conversation starter. I don't think it's a stretch to state that I was wholly successful in that endeavor.
It's pretty hard to do that if the town simply elects to No-Lynch every Day. It'd be kind of a lame way to play the game, to be sure, which is another reason I believe the scum likely have a one- or two-shot unblockable kill.
I have an ability that I have no idea how to use. I'm not sure if I should go into more detail at this point in time.
We are going to get along really well this game. I'm starting to realize how good of a player you are when you don't replace out.
This reads really scummy. You could be joking, but please don't post like this if you are.
If I'm reading the OP right, then no active ability in this game is more than 3-shot. Any full Doctor/Jailer we have would only have three shots max.
The analysis on the Alt. Wincon here is good. Also like the last paragraph. If the morning deadline is approaching, we should at least compile a strong suspect group. Cy's analysis is good right off the bat.
I would prefer that you don't do this, but it doesn't make you scum. Lurkers can be town too. The attacks against you so far are pretty weak.
I've posted paragraphs incredibly similar to the first one as scum trying to gain townie points many a time. Pinged my scumdar. A weak attack IMO.
Weak vote reasoning. Don't like it.
You post here is what, post 39? And you are already willing to lynch someone? Show me the case sir, show me these mountainous piles of scumproof you have on Tan somewhere in the 38 previous posts.
I guess I should reread what you've said on Tan so far, but this speedy attitude of yours doesn't impress me much.
Weak vote reasoning. Don't like it.
This is a good question that I'd like to know the answer too, but just finished reading and it's got something to do with AI's role information, so no, I'd rather leave it alone. Mass claim isn't happening, move along, nothing to see here. Still, like that Cy is asking the tough questions.
Like, kinda throwing the word "mass-claim" out there, and seeing who bites.
Except for the part where that's not what he did....
@Cyouni: answer your own question. If you read what AI and I were saying, you will find it. Let me know when you catch up

This reads as coaching. Why are you advising him of that?
Good catch.
Not enough time for it. Sorry.
Where do you get that he's trying to encourage a mass-claim, when in the same sentence he says that a mass-claim's a bad idea?
Let me make it clear. You've stated you're willing to lynch Tanarin off "voting someone, then barning them to vote someone else". I'm waiting for you to provide actual reasoning behind your abrupt willingness to lynch.
