Rules: #1: Don't edit your posts, don't quote any PM from any player (especially me), and don't discuss this game with anyone except myself and anyone delineated in your role PM. Breaking these rules will result in modkill. Expect absolutely no leniency as far as this rule goes.
Don't edit your posts. That's pretty self-evident.
When referring to your role PM, you may directly quote your character's name, your role title, the names of your abilities and any parameters they may have. For the effects of your abilities, you should paraphrase; when referring to your flavor, you should summarize. If the flavor is "You are a happy red dog," don't tell people it's "I'm a content crimson canine." Summarize. Say "I'm a dog."
Do not ever discuss this game in any thread, public or not, or in PMs with any player besides me or other players your role permits you to talk to. I don't care if you don't refer to it by name. Saying things like "This happened in an ongoing game" isn't going to fool anyone. Please keep this game's integrity intact as it will be more fun for everyone that way.
#2: Don't lurk to excess. RL comes for everyone. It's understandable. Just keep me updated on what your situation is. If you anticipate being able to continue in the game, I will work with you, and if you don't think it will be possible, I'll look for a replacement. But if you simply drop out of the game without any communication, that will likely have an adverse effect on your chances of getting into my games in future.
#3: The Forum Rules apply in this game and in all games. Mafia is a game of high tension due to the levels of suspicion and paranoia involved, and I know from personal experience the effect it can have on some players. Be sure to keep your behavior within the guidelines stated, however. Flaming will not be tolerated.
#4: Lynching will require a simple majority of votes. Once the lynch threshold has been reached, nothing can prevent that lynch and the game is considered to be in "twilight." Posting during twilight is allowed. Twilight lasts from the time the lynch threshold is reached until the next time that I post in the thread.
#5: Please bold your votes and unvotes. Votes made without unvoting first will not count.
#6: Deadlines are set at the start of each day. Barring exceptional circumstances, those deadlines are immutable and will not be changed. If the deadline is reached without achieving a lynch, the day will end in No Lynch. The deadline remains static - votes made after it has passed will not count even if I have not made it to the thread yet.
#7: Once you die, you are dead. Do not post. This includes "bah" posts. Do not communicate about anything game-related with any player, alive or dead, even if you think that communication does not endanger the game state or is not "important."
#8: Night actions must be in by the night deadline. The deadline remains static - choices made after it has passed will not count even if I have not started the day yet. If you do not plan to use your night action, please inform me, as day will start once all choices are in. #9: There will never be a Jester in any game that I host.
#10: After you have requested replacement or after I have announced that I am seeking a replacement for you - whichever comes first - your time in the game has ended. Do not post any further.
#11: Remember that while this is a game, it is intended to be fun for everyone. If you knowingly take actions that violate the spirit of the game, I reserve the right to apply the appropriate punishment.
#12: If you don't know, ask. I am online all the time and I'm happy to help you with any questions you may have. Please don't commit avoidable breaches of these rules because you didn't ask for clarification.
Game mechanics:
This game features four seasons, SPRING, SUMMER, AUTUMN, and WINTER. Some abilities can only be used during certain seasons; some will have different effects depending on what season it is.
The Aeon Clock is the central mechanic of the game, controlling the seasons. At the beginning of the game, the Clock starts at 0 and the game is considered to be in SPRING. The clock has four sections, delineated thusly:
Each ability is defined as either active or passive. Passive abilities do not require the player to do anything. Unless otherwise noted, a player can only perform one action classified as "active" during each day/night cycle. If Jimmy has 1 active day ability and 2 active night abilities, he can perform his day ability every day phase (as long as he meets its requirements) but he can only choose one of his night abilities to perform each night phase. Actions classified as "anytime" may be performed at any time, as long as the player meets the requirements to use the ability, and as many times as the player is able to pay for.
0-24 = Spring
25-49 = Summer
50-74 = Autumn
75-99 = Winter
Whenever the Clock's current position falls into one of these categories, the corresponding season is active. These ranges are inclusive; that is, if the Clock stands at 49, the game is in SUMMER, and if the Clock stands at 50, the game is in AUTUMN. The Clock passes seamlessly from 99 to 0.
The Clock can only move when players use abilities. The amount the Clock moves is notated in the ability parameters of each ability that affects the Clock. These amounts change depending on how many players are in the game.
The Clock's movements are made public whenever it moves. Players will be informed of the clock's new position and how many places it moved, if any, whenever a change occurs, but they will not know who caused the Clock to move.
If an ability's parameters includes the name of a season in CAPITALS, it can only be used during that season. If the ability can be used during any season, its parameters will include the phrase "any season."
In addition, every active ability affects the Clock in some way. Your ability parameters will include the amount that the Clock moves when you use the ability, and the amount varies depending on how many players are left alive.
While the game has more than 15 living players, the amount in blue is used.
While the game has more than 9 living players, the amount in green is used.
While the game has 9 or fewer living players, the amount in purple is used.
You are welcome to attempt any of these tactics. At best, they will not provide any benefit; at worst, they may harm your team. You have been warned.
Townie win condition: "You win when the scum are destroyed." Every townie has this exact win condition.
Current Clock status: The Clock stands at 48. It is Summer.

"Umry, Dina, you're here too soon. Next time we're meant to meet for storytelling is two weeks from now."
"The chief said it's time you told us the story about Voes and Yblisa."
"That right? Hoo, boy. All right, children, take a seat. This is a special story."
"Why? We already know all about the First and Second Creations. You told us about that, and so did the priest."
"Reckon you do. But do you know about the time when Voes went away, and Yblisa broke free of the Clock?"
"No! Really? That happened?"
"Oh yes. The trouble between brother and sister didn't end after he stuffed her in the Clock. Well, who can remind me what happened after the Second Creation?"
"Voes made all the Elementals that you told us stories about, and then he made the Clock, and they all gathered for a meeting every year so he could see they were doing what he made them to do."
"Good boy, Umry. Just so. But, same as it ever was, Voes began to get antsy. The world - humans, Elementals - it wasn't enough. He needed more: more stimulation, more new experiences. He began to get bored with the annual meetings and all of the Elementals in general."
"...He was a fool."
"Fool or not, he wanted more. So he began to leave the world and journey out into the heavens."
"Wow! Where did he go?"
"That's not for us to know. He'd spend the entire year away from the world he'd created, he and his sister's coerced power. Then, when it came time for the annual meeting, he'd return and check on the Elementals."
"Were they behaving themselves?"
"Sure! In fact, over the years, they became fond of Voes. They forgot their Mother and began to see Voes as their natural patron, and they became accustomed to the Clock, seeing it as natural, when before they had chafed at the limits placed on their power."
"..."
"Every year, Voes would return, but as years passed, he started to look different. He'd come back with a strange protrusion like an elephant's trunk instead of his usual face, for example, or with fur like a tiger's, or shrouded in green fire. Whatever he was doing in the worlds unknown, it was changing him."
"But he was still good, right?"
"It's too easy to think in terms of 'good' and 'evil', Umry. I taught you to think critically about those concepts, not use them as blanket terms. Anyway, it came to pass that he'd stop coming, sometimes for years at a time. The Elementals would have their meeting without him, and they elected one of their own, Zawal tae-Deech, the Elemental of Justice, to lead the meeting and keep the order."
"Did he ever come back?"
"After many years passed with no sign of him, the Elementals began to wonder if he would ever return, until one year they found a sign that he'd been with them."
"What was it?"
"A coffin. A sarcophagus, to be exact. It was ornate and well decorated, carved of grey stone with a strangely milky quality, and on its lid were the runes that the Elementals used as language. There was a message there for them, and it said, 'Open only when I am gone.'"
"Did they open it?"
"No. They thought it was a test of loyalty from their Father, designed to see if any of them wished him gone so they could go back to their old ways of defiance. They left it there that year, and the next, and the next. Centuries passed, and the Elementals fulfilled their purposes, but there was no sign of Voes."
"So what happened?"
"Well, then, they began to see the Reaper...."

The game is in pregame. Please do not post, and /confirm receipt of your role PM when you receive it.
We're only missing two players - pretty good for Christmas Eve. I'm sure ZasZ and WoD will check in promptly, so we're set to start.
The game will begin at 4:00pm EST today.
"...There it was, day after day. They couldn't ignore it: a shadowy figure, imperceptible but somehow sinister, lurking around the Clock. They'd catch it out of the corner of their eyes; they'd turn suddenly and find it watching them, or seeming to."
"What was it?"
"What, indeed. And the the mystery began to obsess them. The Elementals could think of nothing else. As they traversed the globe carrying out their purposes, their thoughts and preoccupations spread to the mortals who shared the land, and the infamy of the Reaper grew."
"What does that mean?"
"...Fear."
"And paranoia. Doomsday cults began to spring up across the land, all claiming the Reaper was a sign of something - but what, they could not agree on. Some said it was Voes, returned to bring a close to the world he had forged. Some said it was Yblisa. Some even said it was the Word, who had made both of them."
"But who was it?"
"The chief sent you here to learn the story, lad. Are you going to let me tell it right, or shall I send you back and tell him you aren't quite ready yet after all?"
"Be silent and listen."
"...Sorry, Sidi. You tell it."
"All right. The only constant element in their prophecies was that the Reaper was the herald of destruction, of one kind or another. Everyone knew Voes was gone. What they didn't know was how much his absence had damaged the Clock. The timeless machinery had kept the Elementals locked into their assigned purposes for millennia, but now it was breaking down."
"What did that mean for the Elementals?"
"They were no longer single-minded beings focused on the purpose for which they had been made. Now there was room for other forces to influence their minds...and for some of them, the Reaper held such a dread fascination that they actively sought it out."
"Weren't they afraid?"
"Yes. But they had to know who - or what - it was. They found it, sure enough, and it convinced them that humanity's time was over. They were superior beings, the Reaper said, not meant to scrape and bow to such crude animals as humans. The Father had enslaved them, but now they could be free...as long as they followed its instructions."
"What did it want?"
"As the annual meeting approached, the Reaper convinced its followers to lie in wait for Zawal tae-Deech, the Elemental of Justice, and the de facto leader of the Elementals. He had arbitrated the annual meetings in Voes's long absence, and his even-handedness and pursuit of justice were held in extremely high regard."
"What happened next?"
"They ambushed the Highest Arbitrator in the dead of night - not hard, since he was blind, as true justice ever was - and cruelly slaughtered him. And when the dawn broke, the Elementals were faced with an absent Father, a dead leader, and traitors among their number."
"So what did they do?"
"They chose the fairest method of hunting out traitors possible: picking one of their number to be executed by majority each day."
"What?! That isn't fair at all!"
"Exactly. Once Zawal was killed, justice fled the world. Human magistrates became illogical and unpredictable, casting out laws that had stood for centuries, rendering mad verdicts that were accountable to neither rhyme nor reason. Monarchs who had been enlightened rulers, concerned with equitable treatment of all people, became mad tyrants who would slaughter their subjects seemingly at their pleasure. Zawal had been the embodiment of justice...and without him, there could be none."
"...Incredible."
"So they had to pick one of their number to kill each day. Who did they pick on the first day?"
"Well...."

The game is not being dumbed down. Control is doing fine; Draw-Go is not the only kind of control. Aggro is doing fine; Red Deck Wins is not the only kind of aggro. Creature combat is an important core concept and belongs in every color. Mythic rarity is not destroying the game. People whine too much for no good reason. Magic is more popular than ever, so keep calm, brew some decks and play some damn cards.
I remember calling him ZasZ before, but that was a long time ago. No difference, I suppose.
Are you taking him seriously?
are you not?

Is there any reason this wasn't also addressed to WoD?
Though it could technically be addressed to a number of players like you and DJ, Wessel's violation was by far the most flagrant, with him posting twice with no contributing content in the face of numerous points of interest.

The only other player it could be addressed to was WoD, since I posted before the stuff happened, and DJ posted content once it happened. WoD and Wessel were the only two players to post after the stuff happened, but not post anything relevant in their posts.
No. You posted that question because you felt the need to either 1) defend me, or 2) make iLord seem suspect because he only targeted me. Or maybe a third, to make WoD seem suspect.
I may be wrong, but I thought it was an (a bit too) obvious gambit on the part of DRey. Although I have never played in a game with DRey, I don't think he would have done this for any other reason than trying to get the reactions from others. Therefore I am not willing to believe he's scum yet. And I'm not going to be pushed onto any wagon just because I'm forced onto it.
But I am sorry for trying to extend the RVS (that ended before it was well underway) with that additional post. I was still in the mood for it. :glee:/QUOTE]
You think DRey pretended to misinterpret Zas's post?

You, Wessel, DJ, AE, Shinen, and WoD all posted after the Zas-DRey-Ced exchange without mentioning it.
Around about one post during that exchange was actually of interest, and about one other person seems to have actually noticed it. I think I'm alright with forgiving them for not mentioning it.
As am I. Wessel's second post was the one I took issue with, and there's plenty more than one post of interest that he ignored.
Quote from Wessel »
Yes. I also think he deliberately tried to end the RVS. This may or may not be to speed up the game to get a quicklynch, but I'm not out on that one yet.
How does DRey's #15 fit into this? You believe he actually knows Zas is not being serious, yet asks it regardless?
What is the reason you're asking me this? Are you trying to get me on the DRey wagon? Or are you asking me this because you're trying to get me defend DRey? Honestly, if DRey meant that question in post 15 seriously, I will be the first person to turn that question around and ask it to DRey. I can't see how anyone who has played at least a couple of games (as I seeDRey has) can be so stupid to think that ZasZ's offer was realistic. Therefore, I saw DRey's post as a gambit (which post 15 merely reinforced, and he hasn't posted/defended himself since then). Therefore, I chose not to defend or attack DRey, instead I wanted to see the reactions to it and comment on those.
I don't believe DRey taking Zas seriously is unbelievable at all, and I was mystified as to why you would immediately discount the possibility. I pursued questioning on the suspicion that it was merely an excuse. Though I'm now inclined to think your opinion is genuine, I personally believe that DRey simply misinterpreted Zas's post.
I don't see it. Do you think they've been distancing from the start?
I also don't understand the votes on iLord. He has a point in that when players aren't commenting on the game at hand, they are more likely to be scum.
Additionally, I feel that a lot of players are giving DRey a pass here. I'd like him to justify his claim that "this is not a rvs vote."
Also, ZasZ234 needs to elaborate on what he found "suspicious."

Sorry, but you're not going to get away with this OMGUS. If I ever misunderstood you, you can always explain it fully to me.
I called you scum before you voted for me. Don't try to paint me as scum if you're just going to lie.
I thought your half-hearted attack was scummy, because the only reason I could see for you to do it was because you wanted to (defend me, which you deny, or) try to falsely depict iLord as a scum. Even if iLord is scum, the reason that he only chose to ask me does not make him scum by itself. That you attack him on it (so early day 1), made me very skeptical. You saw an opportunity to attack, and you took it. That is essentially why I think your action was suspicious.
You don't find scum if you don't take action.
I then posted two or three possible reasons why in my view you would do that (In my opinion, they are all sort of scummy, but the second one the most). You then say that you chose to make iLord suspect (which is something completely different from questioning him, in which case I would have phrased the question differently or not have taken this matter to debate upon).
The fact that you chose not elaborate your reason lead me to the opinion that you were, indeed, scum. Furthermore, to then say I am scum because I saw you action as scummy behaviour is in my opinion OMGUS.
No. What makes you think I think they've been distancing?
In your opinion, Wessel and iLord are scumbuddies. iLord came into the game and quickly pointed a finger at Wessel with the accusation of active lurking (more or less). This, when taking into account your scumbuddy theory, is textbook distancing. Now that we've established that you don't think distancing occurred, what evidence do you have to support your view that Wessel and iLord are scumbuddies?
I applaud action. That is what we're doing now. What you did against iLord however, was no action in my view. True, you did try to get something going, you tried to get a faulty wagon against iLord going. That was what made you light up on my radar, which is what made me question you.
When did the exchange end?
Sigh.
"I was first!" "No, I was first!"
I hope this will be a definitive answer. I questioned your scummy attack on iLord, and you immediately go screaming 'Scum!' 'Scum!' 'Scum!'. What is OMGUS? As far as I know that's saying someone is scum based on the sole reason that person attacked you. Who made the first attack? I think I did.
If you go back and read, it's pretty clear that I was the first person to infer that you're scummy.

We wouldn't be having this discussion now if I didn't do what I did with iLord.
Well, to be honest, I had hoped you would have elaborated your reasoning after my post 44. Instead though, you chose to just say you tried to make iLord seem suspect. You could have said 'No, those are all the wrong reasons Wessel. In fact, I wanted to question iLord for the following reasons...'. But you said 'I wanted to make iLord suspect'. You could have proven me wrong on so many occasions, but instead you OMGUS'd me.
I questioned iLord because he didn't ask other people what he asked you. How can I elaborate past that?
In your opinion, Wessel and iLord are scumbuddies. iLord came into the game and quickly pointed a finger at Wessel with the accusation of active lurking (more or less). Questioning someone and inferring that they're scum is distancing? I thought not talking to them or something like that would be distancing.
There were a couple of implied-explanation votes on DRey, plus kpaca's vote on ZasZ. What else comprises "plenty"?
You don't find that plenty? I find ignoring all of the actual content in the thread and making another RVS post cause for concern. It is very convenient and safe for scum to stay quiet when they're not quite sure what to say.
Given that we're only a few posts into the game, it's a very weak tell. And iLord's way of describing it does not sit right with me at all.
Could you elaborate on how it doesn't "sit right" with you?
I have no idea what kpaca is (and, by extension, you) talking about. Could you explain?
Post #32. I'm disagreeing with Kpaca, because that was terribly-terrible if it was an out-in-the-open coach.
As for Wessel vs. Burst, I'm trying to follow what just happened, and <headassplode>. I feel like I'm reading a giant misdirection by smokescreen from Wessel. No honest read yet, but the tone is uncomfortable to me.
Just sayin.

"...a talisman against all evil, so long as you obey me."
"...?"
"Sidi, chief sent us to you."
"Hello, Sidi."
"...a talisman against all evil, so long as you obey me."
The game will begin at 4:00pm EST today.
"...a talisman against all evil, so long as you obey me."
"Well...."

You think DRey taking Zas seriously is suspicious?
My Custom Set: Solescurio
My Custom Set: Solescurio
Lol both Drey and Zas are scum this game is going to be so ****ing easy.
vote: Zas.
I bolded the biggest display of coaching I've ever seen in my entire flipping life.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYpwjB0IzoU
I rest my case.
Good thing we checked with ced on this one!
Vote DRey
Boy, this game is easy.
If that's coaching, it's the worst scum-slip of all time. That said, looking for more from Zas here...
--->DJ
Wessel's pointed ignoring of whatever else is going on is concerning.
@Wessel: Do you see nothing worth noting from the player interactions so far?
My Custom Set: Solescurio
Is there any reason this wasn't also addressed to WoD?
Thanks to Nezumi for the banner!
Though it could technically be addressed to a number of players like you and DJ, Wessel's violation was by far the most flagrant, with him posting twice with no contributing content in the face of numerous points of interest.
My Custom Set: Solescurio
The only other player it could be addressed to was WoD, since I posted before the stuff happened, and DJ posted content once it happened. WoD and Wessel were the only two players to post after the stuff happened, but not post anything relevant in their posts.
Why are you so defensive?
WoD posted no content around the same time you posted no content.
I'm calling an iLord and Wessel scum team.
Vote iLord.
Thanks to Nezumi for the banner!
I pick #2.
Thanks to Nezumi for the banner!
You, Wessel, DJ, AE, Shinen, and WoD all posted after the Zas-DRey-Ced exchange without mentioning it.
My Custom Set: Solescurio
@Everyone: I told you Wessel was scum. Look how he set me up to look scummy so he could vote for me.
I'm not deliberately trying to make him look scummy. It's pretty obvious I was just questioning something I found scummy.
Thanks to Nezumi for the banner!
As am I. Wessel's second post was the one I took issue with, and there's plenty more than one post of interest that he ignored.
How does DRey's #15 fit into this? You believe he actually knows Zas is not being serious, yet asks it regardless?
My Custom Set: Solescurio
I don't believe DRey taking Zas seriously is unbelievable at all, and I was mystified as to why you would immediately discount the possibility. I pursued questioning on the suspicion that it was merely an excuse. Though I'm now inclined to think your opinion is genuine, I personally believe that DRey simply misinterpreted Zas's post.
My Custom Set: Solescurio
I don't think "coaching" is the right word. You want "fishing," as in "fishing for support from a townie."
I wish I had three votes.

I didn't post after the exchange until after you asked Wessel that question.
I called you scum before you voted for me. Don't try to paint me as scum if you're just going to lie.
You don't find scum if you don't take action.
What do you want elaborated?
Thanks to Nezumi for the banner!
No. What makes you think I think they've been distancing?
Thanks to Nezumi for the banner!
The Zas-DRey-Ced exchange took place post #8-15. Your first post was #19.
My Custom Set: Solescurio
@burstinatrix: don't try and paint someone as scum if you're just going to lie.
What is your opinion of Ced?
My Custom Set: Solescurio
Which is exactly why you should've questioned me.
If you go back and read, it's pretty clear that I was the first person to infer that you're scummy.
We wouldn't be having this discussion now if I didn't do what I did with iLord.
I questioned iLord because he didn't ask other people what he asked you. How can I elaborate past that?
Questioning someone and inferring that they're scum is distancing? I thought not talking to them or something like that would be distancing.
Thanks to Nezumi for the banner!
It wasn't your behavior I was concerned about - it was Wessel's.
You don't find that plenty? I find ignoring all of the actual content in the thread and making another RVS post cause for concern. It is very convenient and safe for scum to stay quiet when they're not quite sure what to say.
Could you elaborate on how it doesn't "sit right" with you?
My Custom Set: Solescurio
Just sayin.
