Hey, don't mean to butt in on this conversation, but I did notice the setup conversation. Just to clear up something in my mind, Pinky, did you try to modify a F11 newbie setup from mafiascum? That may explain some of the inherent imbalance in the setup.
Also AI, this may be a convo for the mafia theory thread, but I feel a GF in a basic is perfectly allowed. The reasoning is the fact that the GF is a cornerstone role, and should be expected in any setup. It is also a check and balance in a way to the follow the cop scenario that can happen with Doc + Cop.

No.
Newbie games at MS are nice and all and very, very simple.
I didn't want people to outguess knowing I was MS that I would go for that concept either.
@Wolf: The game will me an open game. The type of game I'm running is what is called Smalltown Set up.
If anyone were to claim VT they should be auto-lynched just for luz.

That's my one failsafe as VT - I can do whatever the hell I want, act scummy as ****, get bad wagons on myself, but I will never be lying if I claim VT. So if I claim VT, I'm obviously not scum.

You may have a point. Currently, the site culture discourages lying to players in Basics, but a Godfather may be an acceptable exception. However, it would also likely necessitate the Cop knowing of his existence (a la Peso del Grande).
I remember in StarTrek even though you did not know for sure that Tan was town or scum you had a much strong town read on him and believed him after he targetted you.
I also recall he believed you and Arcadic to be town after that happened as well based on conversations.
I personally have only had one game in which scum was given a role to neighborize others. That was really, really beastly game.
You remember wrong, me and Arcadic were pretty suspitious of Tanarin, Arcadic told me a mason maker was usually a scum role, actually I was determined to push for Tanarin's lynch the next day, thankfully he was NKed that night.
Actually maybe you don't remember it wrong, I think we both faked to trust him for the time being because he was protecting me.

The game is not being dumbed down. Control is doing fine; Draw-Go is not the only kind of control. Aggro is doing fine; Red Deck Wins is not the only kind of aggro. Creature combat is an important core concept and belongs in every color. Mythic rarity is not destroying the game. People whine too much for no good reason. Magic is more popular than ever, so keep calm, brew some decks and play some damn cards.
I know I'm really late, but I feel terrible about replacing out of this game. I wish there was a way I could make it up, but I really can't.
On tracking Wolf, his comment in the spectator chat was why I decided on him; standing back and watching felt strange from him, especially given my memory of him in Basic8. Although, I'll admit that I was far from sure, and Len's suggestion to target a less-likely-to-be-NKed person was more my motivation for choosing Wolf.
Speaking of which, she did play phenomenally this game. Definitely the mafia MVP.
On the setup, I thought it was fine. I don't think it's too much of a problem that the scum RB getting lynched D1 would screw over the scum. As you could see from the chat, we figured out that there was probably a cop+doc early on, so letting the RB get lynched would be something the mafia wouldn't want to let happen. That does assume a reasonably experienced person is on the mafia team, but I think that's reasonable to assume.
I also really like the Chatterbox role in a basic. Recruiting masons are one of my favorites, and I think they're very useful to new players.
And I agree that Godfathers should be fair game in Basics, as long as the cop is informed that there is a Godfather in the game.

I had a great feeling XX was scum but Void literally baited himself in for an easy win. All in all, we were screwed way way back.
