I'll comment more later, but on the subject of Manders,
I was actually planning to modkill Seppel on the spot. Manders talked me out of it, telling me she would talk to Seppel. I realize my actions my have been rash, but I really didn't want my game to delve into replacements that late, as the OoG issue would be talked about to the council.
Oh, hey, look at that.
Incontrovertable proof that I value the integrity of a game more than my own side winning. I wasn't willing to just sit back and let Seppel get modkilled even though that would have been AWESOME for my team.
Heh. I misvigged two people in Supernatural, so don't sweat it.
Yes.
Yes you did.
So, I personally want to either start playing in more Basics or start mentoring people more often, I feel like this new batch of players has a lot of potential and I'm curious as to whether or not people think I would be more valuable in-game or behind the scenes. Input, anyone?

Players learn a lot from playing with an experienced player. Actually seeing how somebody that knows what they're doing scumhunts, analyzes stuff, reactions to certain situations, etc. can be really beneficial for newer players (like myself).

Plus you're also fun to play with, which is a plus.
The only downside would be if you do really weird stuff like you always threaten, because you're one of the few who can pull it off.

1) Why was Tezz cleared? Wasn't it based on WIFOM?
Tezz was cleared, because a scum (like Chibi C'thullu in Stick It for example) wouldn't do what I asked when posting in "real time" as though chatting. This only works if the player is the type to reply quickly.
That being said, now I would say it will become WIFOM because I will become known for it, and scum will know to fool me by following my directions and lying.
2) Did my risk/reward argument with Cyouni help or hurt him? I thought that and my bussing of him early on would've made him obvscum after I bussed Manders so hard.
Well, I would say it was null. There was no clear way to read through it. It read as an argument, but not as genuine as when, say, Cyouni bit my head off for not knowing his meta.
It didn't really tip the scales either way. And IMO the only thing you did that you need to learn to balance is you had too many aggressive posts. When you're town, you don't know what the hell is going on and it shows. Like Seppel said, read and compare.
Can we have the link to the scum chat? I'm really curious.
Also, the whole me faking being RB'ed was a plan we had, but I never really understood why I was doing it (which is probably why it was executed poorly).
Yeah this tipped your hand a bit. I figured it was a scum plan introduced before Manders was lynched.
Anybody have any tips on what I could've done better?
I think you played fantastically, actually. My read on you was haaaaaaaaaaard.
Congrats to Art and Seppel for playing so well, by the way. Great job on your parts.
You can't roleblock a player who's going to live if you plan to claim to be roleblocked for town points, dear. That's where you messed up, from reading this. (I didn't keep up with this game after I had to replace out.)
@Burst: Tezz was cleared via questionable OOG mechanics. That cleared him in Arti's eyes (and in mine)
Well, that and tezz was "usual town tezz" when I did that. It was more of an investigation on Seppel, just as my move in the other game I did this in was to crack the Arcadic nut.
Artifice, you have GOT to stop relying on stuff like this. Yes, it worked out in this instance and in Stick It, but it should not be seen as reliable in the least.
Eh, contemplate what to do with this now. As you said, it did work out.
Also, all mafia players should go invisible. That's my opinion.
Oh, and since I'm sure you guys are curious, TIK asked me to talk to Seppel about him replacing out over Artifice's clearing of tezz. I called Seppel, (woke him up doing so) and convinced him to play the game out as a favor to me since TIK is a dear, dear friend.
End of story.
This whole scenario is the definitive example of WIFOM.
This was a super fun game to read guys. I would like to congratulate everyone that played as I feel that everyone did a good job this game. I would also like to second the idea that this is one of the games that would be good for people that are new to the game to read. Also, over the last couple of games I've played/read I've noticed that I like it when the town wins. I still prefer to win when I'm scum, but it definitely feels a little evil winning as scum.
I do agree that Mafia players should probably be invisible. While I agree that it can be a relevant tactic, sometimes players just don't have time to post in all game threads. It can be used to clear certain players as to whether or not they're actually present for the Night phase. While that may be slightly underhanded, it can work. *Shrugs*
If you had done this, you should targetted me with your modkill. If I understand, you don't approve of my "methods" either? (not wanting to argue, just asking)
I /barn this so hard it hurts. It goes against the spirit of the game to look at stuff like that in the first place, and I don't like when anyone does it, no matter how good a player the person is the rest of the time (and that goes double for you, Art).
Double for being good :)? Or double for being janky? Also, do you think people should be allowed to see if people have posted elsewhere and mention it in game? That's what I equate this to.
Incontrovertable proof that I value the integrity of a game more than my own side winning. I wasn't willing to just sit back and let Seppel get modkilled even though that would have been AWESOME for my team.
I really wish you would delete the line I didn't include in my quote. I give you all credit for your integrity, but that colors it....
I'm sorry that I had two mis-fires, but at least we still won right?
Your shots were not horrible. None of us had reads at the time that made sense. The only option you could have chosen was not to shoot. Were you an unlimited shot Vig?
That being said, now I would say it will become WIFOM because I will become known for it, and scum will know to fool me by following my directions and lying.
Just so long as you stop doing it!
Double for being good :)? Or double for being janky? Also, do you think people should be allowed to see if people have posted elsewhere and mention it in game? That's what I equate this to.
Double for being a good and well-respected player. (Though for what it's worth, I consider almost everyone with more than a few games here good.)
And no, people should not be able to use that. There are several reason behind everything. For example, say I got behind in a mafia game and was not posting much, but posts cropped up in other fora. What might it mean? Well in my case at least some of the time, it means I don't have the time right at the moment to catch up in that game, but I DO have the time to post elsewhere.
You see? It's a combination of being against the spirit of the game and the end result being questionable at best.
I feel like if a player isn't actually on the site during the Night phase, that can eliminate possible scumspects. However, I also feel like invisible mode removes (more often than not) that considered possibility. It's an underhanded technique (to attempt to clear a player that way), and good scum can use it to their advantage, but that's exactly why it shouldn't be used. It's the equivalent of saying, "Bob wasn't at the scene of the crime, so he couldn't have done it." It's just too easy that way. o:

So you're saying a town player would have to, say, sit for 72 hours and see who read the game? If there were no invisible mode that is?
Yeah there are way to many variables to consider this useful.

I was only able to track one person and that was IB. I wasn't sure who to target. And as we al know. IB did nothing that night, but that would not have cleared him anyway.
Weird stuff like I always threaten? What do you mean?
Something along the lines of "Just so you know, I'm going to try out a new tactic this game, so don't be surprised if I seem scummy" or later "Finally a chance to try out that new tactic!" for I believe #52 and then #54.

Hm, I see. I just thought it was WIFOM the whole time, but I guess because you weren't really known for stalking before, that it pretty much cleared him (because, as scum, he wouldn't have known to fake doing what he did). Makes sense now.
Well, I would say it was null. There was no clear way to read through it. It read as an argument, but not as genuine as when, say, Cyouni bit my head off for not knowing his meta.

Fair enough.
Guess I'll be playing as lost and confused town next time I'm scum.
Yeah this tipped your hand a bit. I figured it was a scum plan introduced before Manders was lynched.
Yeah. Probably shouldn't have done it until I fully understood what I was meant to do and how to do it, if I did it at all.
I think you played fantastically, actually. My read on you was haaaaaaaaaaard.
You, sir, are getting better and better at this game. Do not knock yourself at all.
Thanks. I still suck, though, but hopefully playing and reading more games will make me less sucky.
That's where the question should end. That's what you always want to do.
I could have done so much better if I hadn't pretty much been gone/unable to devote too much attention to Mafia for three weeks... (~Oct 24 to ~Nov 14)
I only had one midterm a week during the second two, but those were some of the worst ones...
Sokka: Seppel You are Sokka, Town Vanilla Your sarcasm and quick humor have gotten you a long way on your trip with the Avatar. You may not be able to bend like Katara, Aang or Toph, but your training with a sword and your trusty boomerang have and will continue to serve you in your future endeavors. Abilities: You have no abilities. Win Condition: You win when all of the rebels are dead.
Iroh: infectiousbaloth
You are Iroh, Town Vanilla The brother of Ozai and the Uncle of Firelord Zuko, your life has been hard since the death of your son, Lu Ten, but traveling with your nephew has helped to fill that void. You are a calm, gentle man whose love for tea is shared by no one. You are the leader of the Order of the White Lotus, and you will help the Avatar, protect the world again. Abilities: You have no abilities. Win Condition: You win when all of the rebels are dead.
Suki: tezzeret12 You are Suki, Town Vanilla You are Sokka’s love interest, and the leader of the Kyoshi warriors. In your first meeting, you completely embarrassed Sokka by tying his hand to his foot, but later, you would escort Aang and his friends to Ba Sing Se, and your skills were essential in the final battle against Ozai. Abilities: You have no abilities. Win Condition: You win when all of the rebels are dead.
King Bumi: Erebus You are King Bumi, Town Vanilla. As a child, you were friends with Aang over 100 years ago. Even in your old age, you are still quite the prankster and fooled Aang into thinking his friends were in real danger, just to see if he would recognize you. As a member of the Order of the White lotus, you are prepared to stop the possibility of another war. Abilities: You have no abilities. Win Condition: You win when all of the rebels are dead.
Master Piandao: Ceej You are Master Paindao, Town Vanilla. You are a sword master of the fire nation, and Sokka’s master in the third season. Not much is known about you due to your late arrival, but you believe that the power of the sword belongs to all elemental nations, and helped the Order of the White Lotus reclaim Ba Sing Se, and are prepared to help fight the rebels. Abilties: You have no abilities. Win Condition: You win when all of the rebels are dead.
Zuko: Wheat_Grinder
You are Zuko, Town Vanilla.
You started out as the main antagonist from the beginning, only changing your ways at the end when you realized the honor you were trying to win back was tainted, and that your father was wrong. No one took your word at first, but you quickly proved that you meant what you said, and as reigning Fire Lord, you are prepared to help Aang save the world again.
Abilities: You have no abilities.
Win Condition: You win when all of the rebels are dead.
Toph: TheVoid958
You are Toph, Town Tracker
You traveled with Aang and his friends, and were responsible for teaching the Avatar earth bending. You were brought up as a spoiled, young heiress, but you really enjoy just playing in the mud. Your earth bending skills are matched by few, and your ability to sense hidden secrets or discover liars without vision has come in handy numerous times.
Abilities: Once per night, you may send me the name of a player, and I will tell you if that player targets someone else. You will be unaware of what they do, however. (Investigative)
Win Condition: You win when all of the rebels are dead.
The Cabbage Merchant: LuckNorris
You are the Cabbage Merchant, Town Vigilante
You are somewhat of a joke, but always good for humor. You constantly have your precious cabbages crushed by people, sometimes by Aang himself. The times of peace have been perfect time for you to sell your cabbages, so when summoned, you are happy to respond. You haven’t forgotten though the amount of times your cart has been destroyed, and you want vengeance for it.
Abilities: Once per night, you may send me the name of a player. The player will be killed. I recommend caution, as this is a very powerful role. (killing)
Win Condition: You win when all of the rebels are dead.
The Guru: GigaRage
You are The Guru, Town Doctor
You are one of the oldest characters on the show, aside from the lion turtle. You have lived off of banana juice for over a hundred years, and you were responsible for helping the Avatar obtain his full form. As someone who has lived as long as you have, you have learned how to help stimulate the body and live through some of the harshest pain the body can tolerate.
Abilities: Once per night, you may send me the name of a player. Should that player be targeted for a kill, that player will not die. You may not target yourself. (Protection)
Win Condition: You win when all of the rebels are dead.
Mafia Roles:
Mafia Roles (Rebels)
Azula: MandersHex
You are Azula, Mafia Goon
You were once the princess of the strongest nation in the land, and you were set to be the next firelord, until Zuko and Katara stopped you. You want to reclaim your rightful throne from your weak brother and have the fire nation rule the world, once again. Your hawk intercepted the message meant for Katara, so you may go in her stead (In other words, you can claim you are Katara). If you don’t know the show, I recommend you use wiki, to describe yourself.
Abilities: Once per night, between you, Combustion Man, and Long Feng, you may send me the name of that player, and that player will be killed.
Combustion Man: Cyouni
You are Combustion Man, Mafia Goon
Originally hired by Zuko to make sure the Avatar was destroyed, you are a free lance mercenary with the ability to shoot a beam of fire from your forehead to blow things up (why Sokka gave you the name, Combustion Man). You are now helping the Fire Nation rise up back into power. Azula also stole the message intended for Master Pakku, so you may go in his stead (In other words, you can claim you are Master Pakku). If you don’t know the show, I recommend you use wiki, to describe yourself.
Abilities: Once per night, between you, Azula, and Long Feng, you may send me the name of that player, and that player will be killed.
Long Feng: Burstinatrix
You are Long Feng, Mafia Roleblocker.
Everyone thought that Azula left you to rot in the prison of Ba Sing Se, but now she has given you the chance to redeem yourself, as you help her reclaim her throne. You will use your power of hypnosis and control to keep others from hindering your plans. You have Haru imprisoned in your secret lair, so you know that you can go to the prison in his stead (In other words, you can claim you are Haru, Town Vanilla). If you don’t know the show, I recommend you use wiki, to describe yourself.
Abilities: Once per night, between you, Combustion Man, and Azula, you may send me the name of that player, and that player will be killed. You also have the ability to send me the name of a player at night. If that player attempts to perform an action, that action will fail (Stifling) (Note: You cannot send the kill AND use your roleblock)
Looking back at the way you handled this game, TIK, I like how you defined abilities according to a label that had a corresponding timing in the OP. That makes the nature of resolution pretty simple for a brand new player to grasp.
I also like the characters you chose. Pretty cool. It looks like a good solid mix of WIFOM and a hard to break set-up. Taking Aang and Ozai out of the equation seems good, too.
And the Cabbage Merchant as Vig? Most comical vig flavor I've seen
-----------------------------------
Also, if you'll all look at my PM and my claim in the game, you will see I committed a lie of omission. I kept out the line, "you are still quite the prankster and fooled Aang into thinking his friends were in real danger, just to see if he would recognize you" because I didn't want to rewrite it and come off as scummy when I was trying to win as town.
This is one of those examples (IMO obv) of when and how to lie as town to win the game.

The bolded might be from the show, but if I had claimed it in game it would have likely started a discussion that was unnecessary. It would have been honest to do so, but also distracting. I decided to keep it simple. Also the bolded almost got Seppel lynched based on the idea that the two dead scum had "kids" as their false claims. That would have been a mega:facepalm: on my part.

Had a lot fun and learned lots. The biggest thing I learned is not to falseclaim when town, ever. Now let the chewing out begin as I have now posted.

Something along the lines of "Just so you know, I'm going to try out a new tactic this game, so don't be surprised if I seem scummy" or later "Finally a chance to try out that new tactic!" for I believe #52 and then #54.
No, it's a definitive example of OOG stuff that shouldn't be considered at all.
It colors it as evidence against things I've been accused of in the past by him.
Good Lord, you're impatient! Can't a girl get her beauty sleep? (Not that I really NEED it. I'm always cute as hell. ;))

Hm, I see. I just thought it was WIFOM the whole time, but I guess because you weren't really known for stalking before, that it pretty much cleared him (because, as scum, he wouldn't have known to fake doing what he did). Makes sense now.
Fair enough.
Guess I'll be playing as lost and confused town next time I'm scum.
Yeah. Probably shouldn't have done it until I fully understood what I was meant to do and how to do it, if I did it at all.
Thanks. I still suck, though, but hopefully playing and reading more games will make me less sucky.
Understood.

You mis-fired me when I breadcrumbed a town power-role =(
You helped me get from a 8v1 to a 3v1 because I had someone else helping me kill the town =)

Yeah, I know. I was really expecting it to be a gambit but in the end I was wrong. And I was soooo close to shooting Cyouni too :argh:.

This lol,
At least I saved him before he shot me =\
Sokka: Seppel
You are Sokka, Town Vanilla
Your sarcasm and quick humor have gotten you a long way on your trip with the Avatar.
You are Iroh, Town Vanilla
The brother of Ozai and the Uncle of Firelord Zuko, your life has been hard since the death of your son, Lu Ten, but traveling with your nephew has helped to fill that void. You are a calm, gentle man whose love for tea is shared by no one. You are the leader of the Order of the White Lotus, and you will help the Avatar, protect the world again.
Abilities: You have no abilities.
Win Condition: You win when all of the rebels are dead.
Suki: tezzeret12
You are Suki, Town Vanilla
You are Sokka’s love interest, and the leader of the Kyoshi warriors.
King Bumi: Erebus
You are King Bumi, Town Vanilla.
Master Piandao: Ceej
You are Master Paindao, Town Vanilla.
Abilities:
Once per night, between you, Combustion Man, and Azula, you may send me the name of that player, and that player will be killed.
You also have the ability to send me the name of a player at night. If that player attempts to perform an action, that action will fail (Stifling) (Note: You cannot send the kill AND use your roleblock)
The GJ way path to no lynching:

The second greatest irony in MTGS Mafia history.
Here, let me demonstrate:

The bolded might be from the show, but if I had claimed it in game it would have likely started a discussion that was unnecessary. It would have been honest to do so, but also distracting. I decided to keep it simple. Also the bolded almost got Seppel lynched based on the idea that the two dead scum had "kids" as their false claims. That would have been a mega:facepalm: on my part.
