It was (serious-ish). What's my ulterior motive, Jobie?
No Lynch and joking about being scum for the DL quotes, and coaching for the Khorn quote are my guesses.
Doom Lich: First post screams "I'm neutral!" Second post says "Just joking!" then "jokes" again (by voting himself). Khorney: Khorn's post had just the lightest feeling of a smear/attack without commitment.
Neither was significant enough for a vote, but both made me question their method of posting/wording of posts.

I guess I usually see it as a scum tell because ending the random phase usually is something that appears townish.
Though now that I think about it more it tends to be premature ending of the random stage that scummy. It's like ending foreplay too soon, it ends with one person getting what they want and leaving the other person looking for more.

The latter paragraph is what I have thought in the past. But I just got done with D1 of Shrek, which set a record for longest 1st day in a basic (and is already nearing the record for longest basic game), and I decided to take a chance and start some discussion. Khorney's post was a minor blip; DL's posts were a bit more significant. I knew that I might draw some negative fire from the act (both for scum-nitpicking and for ending the fun of the RVS), but I made the call. 50 posts with all players posting seemed sufficient for random.

It'd unorthodox. I've always fancied myself a bit weird.
And I'm the town idiot of course.
Don't take this the wrong way, because I've seen new players scared away from the game by stuff like this, but unorthodoxy will get you lynched quite often. Eccentricity is welcomed, but constant joking in the face of attacks is usually seen as scummy.
I play games for fun, if I end up getting myself lynched because of it, so what? I had a blast doing that kind of thing, and shaking up the game. Feel free to go ahead an lynch me, I'm sure as hell not gonna cry over it.

Yet Mafia is a team game; when you participate in other team games, do you adopt a similarly cavalier attitude toward your success (when it affects your team's success)?
And cantrip, what about my post seemed to blip ( what does that even mean?) something. Could you please explain for me?
"Blip" as in a dot on a radar screen (as in, your post caused a dot/blip on my scumdar).
Your post sounded at least quasi-serious, cast DL in a bad light (he's doing something that "never helps the town"), put attention on him again (with the IGMEOY), and was couched in timid, passive "this is just an observation" language, which gives you room to say (later) that it wasn't an attack. This "list" of reasons is blown out of proportion to your actual post, as I only got the slightest hint of this motivation from it, but it was a post that made me pause in my read.
Your confusion since, however, reads as sincere, which makes me think you town.
Nothing bad, but what did _航_ do to you? Nothing. Your seriously questioning my picks on DAY 1? I could go back to no lynch, but then I'm a target...
Shall we make a distinction between random vote and serious vote? People vote all the time in random and, for the most part, they are, indeed, random. By saying "my vote stands though," I thought that you were being serious, as why else would you draw attention to a random vote?

Not always, no. For the most part it's random/joke votes until somebody votes one too many times as a "joke" and gives themselves away.

Nothing wrong with playing this game for fun, if it weren't fun there wouldn't be much point imho, that being said this is a game where team play helps teams win, whether you are part of our, the town, team or the other team trying to kill us all is irrelevant if you are planning to play it lone ranger style.

OMGUS Voting with never an explanation is bad, if you notice i keep my vote on you and gave you the reasons for it, instead of trying to convince me the vote has no merit with you you are just avoiding the issue, as of right now you are on my scum list and your misdirecting attitude is convincing me making a lynch wagon on you is a good idea (even if you for some reason end up being town), because you are such a confusing factor right now.

As of right now you are just fence-sitting and not actually contributing to the town, from all the random yours appears to be the most disturbing because when someone asks you for clarification instead of explaining and returning to the random you just deflect by remaining random, thats a horrible scum move or like you said just you being eccentric (which is why im believing you are a good lynch today, either we lynch scum or we remove a random element which can't be read well)

1) I believe that it's accepted as better practice to NOT no lynch round one because of the information gained from a lynch and the possibility of lynching scum. No lynching day 1 gives the scum a free kill without any analysis.
2) I'm only going to say this once: If you're really not having any fun, then please replace out. If you're throwing this tantrum as a gambit/ploy, it's an old one (as in, it happens almost every basic game that some new player decides that getting attacked early is too strenuous/unfun and storms off in a huff). I'd much rather you stuck with it and came to enjoy what is a really fun game, but not if you're going to continue to profess to being a fun-loving free spirit when you really have a stick up your butt. We're the ones that are too serious? You're the one having a hernia over a text-based forum game.
You made two quotes, one an actual quote i said the other, in thr exact same form was pinned as a quote. However, maybe you were using it as an adjective (not too sure, my english isnt great). Could you please clarify further? Was it a misquote or?

Not that I'm saying that a day 1 lynch is often random. A day 1 lynch is NEVER random, barring idiotic play.

Man, these people know how to play mafia. Replace out if you must, but don't keep that silly idea in your head that a day 1 no lynch is a good idea at all - it cuts discussion way down and pretty much gives the scum a free victim. A day 1 town lynch, while unfortunate, is sometimes actually better than a no lynch because of the discussion that it generates.
The point is, we use day 1 lynch as a ground base. Even if a townie is lynched, the voting patterns can later be compared and the posts read, possibly finding the scum through some slip up

I really, truly do believe you're town, but this is horrendous logic. One point no one else has made is that the lynch is by far the town's strongest weapon against the scum. If we vote NL all willy-nilly, then we're just giving up really.

I was merely observing the crazy amount of pointless/random votes on the first page.
I have seen a townie implode before, you're right. However, I've never seen somebody just give up and be driven to the point of QQing. He's got to be under some other stress, because I see no logical reason for him to do that. He was joking around, he got caught up in a lack of logic, and imploded. It looks like scum to me, and it's the only lead I've got.
You guys just don't get how effective it can be to test people with a little dust being shuffled up.
Oh, I definitely do. I've claimed an investigation on the first page of a Night Start game, proposed a soft claim, full claim and no lynch in past games. This along with your reaction under pressure are why I don't believe you're scum.

This. DoomL, do I scare you?
Don't take this the wrong way, because I've seen new players scared away from the game by stuff like this, but unorthodoxy will get you lynched quite often. Eccentricity is welcomed, but constant joking in the face of attacks is usually seen as scummy.
My vote stands though.

Yet Mafia is a team game; when you participate in other team games, do you adopt a similarly cavalier attitude toward your success (when it affects your team's success)?
Why? What's Sepiriel done?
Hell, I've had enough of you questioning my motives! I think YOU are the mafia!

Shall we make a distinction between random vote and serious vote? People vote all the time in random and, for the most part, they are, indeed, random. By saying "my vote stands though," I thought that you were being serious, as why else would you draw attention to a random vote?
Was your vote of Sepiriel serious?
Is your vote of me serious?

Sooooooo every day 1 lynch is completely random? Having read games where scum have been correctly lynched on D1, I find that hard to believe. Why do you say this?
Not always, no. For the most part it's random/joke votes until somebody votes one too many times as a "joke" and gives themselves away.

Ah, sorry, I'm still picking up on this scumdar analogy.
Also, when did I say it was an observation? (I might have said it and forgot, but I checked all my posts and didn't find it?)
I would also agree you are seeing "mountains where there are mice".
What do you mean one too many times?

I voted him and that made him go OMGUS however why he just doesn't take the 5 minutes to explain himself and convince me to unvote is beyond me.
or... you know.... YOU COULD GIVE REASONS FOR WHY YOU ARE VOTING AND CONVINCE PEOPLE YOUR TOWN!
As of right now you are just fence-sitting and not actually contributing to the town, from all the random yours appears to be the most disturbing because when someone asks you for clarification instead of explaining and returning to the random you just deflect by remaining random, thats a horrible scum move or like you said just you being eccentric (which is why im believing you are a good lynch today, either we lynch scum or we remove a random element which can't be read well)
OMGUS again and a very scummish OMGUS at that, the "OMG im tired of you asking so much you HAVE to be scum!" stance is so bad... more votes to Doom Lich people please.
Well given the quote below i believe he is not being serious about being seriously voting for me but he is seriously voting you because you are seriously taking his not serious vote...
err my vote may have started as a joke from you going martyr but i can assure you it became serious once you started showing your scum traits.

Bold statement.
Idk Scummish tendencies (first game) but.. It doesn't feel right for town. I'm not saying he's scum but from all his posts in sequence I get a scummish feel.
Who knows lol
anyway the way that sounds sounds almost like your protecting him. I doubt that would be smart play by a scum at this stage in this fashion but Idk lol just saying
(idk my acronyms yet) so igmeoy very mildly
Why are you thinking inthe mindset of a scum player? Wouldnt it make more sense to say the town would benefit from the increase in information, rather than the detriment to the mafia?

If your the townspeople, you should always vote no lynch round one, because you have 3/4 chance of hitting yourselves with no basis whatsoever. It's a foolish thought. If you must take this so seriously, then I will simply resign, because that entirely drains the fun out of the game.

I'm rather pessimistic so that's why lol
and eh possibly
but again I'm a pessimist so I tend to think in the way that would be bad for me but w.e
just that's what I had to say about that
and sorry for the noncoherent post lol I'm half asleep
You didn't say it was an observation; your post sounded like you were being careful not to attack or dismiss the self-vote, that you were "just" making an observation.

Not true, cantrip already explained the reasons why voting No Lynch Day 1 is bad, i do however wish to thank you for letting us know theres three Scum in this game.
Also while you are still part of this game let me just point out you telling us how we should be playing is not a very good town attitude.
Finally let me just remind people he still hasn't addressed the issues presented before, instead he is ranting about how serious we all are and how we are sucking the fun out of this game

What? Even if day one lynches were random, scum would still sometimes get lynched day one.
Not that I'm saying that a day 1 lynch is often random. A day 1 lynch is NEVER random, barring idiotic play.
A little piece of advice to Doom Lich: Take winning seriously. Take votes and pressure on you seriously (unless they are completely random). That way you might not get lynched.
The thing I don't like about Doom Lich is the "I'm a strange poster and deal with it" attitude, it seems to me to be insurance against scummy play.
vote: Doom Lich
Man, these people know how to play mafia. Replace out if you must, but don't keep that silly idea in your head that a day 1 no lynch is a good idea at all - it cuts discussion way down and pretty much gives the scum a free victim. A day 1 town lynch, while unfortunate, is sometimes actually better than a no lynch because of the discussion that it generates.
Draft it on Cubetutor!
I think we might have just found our first scum.

Up until Doom Lich's implosion I read him as town all the way. Overconfident noob town who is getting frustrated that no one is listening to him. Then after everyone opposes his idea of NL'ing he self destructs a little. I see this as town behavior more than scummy coming from a noob. Let me explain this a bit differently:
Without a doubt, I believe DL is town.

Actually, after re-reading, it appears Sepiriel was slyly trying to get us out of the random phase the whole time.
Please explain why you said this.
Please don't answer questions not posted to you. Just a request in advance.
sigged FTW!
2 things.
1) I've heard from several people that playing here is vastly different than playing IRL.
2) There are some mods who impose a suicide rule saying that if anyone votes for themselves, it's an automatic lynch and end of day. So be careful if you're going to continue playing and voting for yourself.
Apparently you're thinking that the entirety of D1 is the random voting stage, but I can assure you that is not the case. There are plenty of serious votes in D1.
Yeah, Ima /barn Cantripmancer on this, but no vote yet. Got bigger fish to fry.
I really, truly do believe you're town, but this is horrendous logic. One point no one else has made is that the lynch is by far the town's strongest weapon against the scum. If we vote NL all willy-nilly, then we're just giving up really.
How many games have you played?
Jumping on a weak case. Have you never seen a townie implode before?

I was merely observing the crazy amount of pointless/random votes on the first page.
I have seen a townie implode before, you're right. However, I've never seen somebody just give up and be driven to the point of QQing. He's got to be under some other stress, because I see no logical reason for him to do that. He was joking around, he got caught up in a lack of logic, and imploded. It looks like scum to me, and it's the only lead I've got.

Oh, I definitely do. I've claimed an investigation on the first page of a Night Start game, proposed a soft claim, full claim and no lynch in past games. This along with your reaction under pressure are why I don't believe you're scum.
Ehhhh... that's a stretch, but I can see where you get that.
