Wait, Doc could self protect? Where'd you get that? Did SSB say that?

Ah, before I forget, you are aware that the doctor can protect him/herself, correct?

I love Joboman, Poggy, Niv, and Vezok, because, while they may not be the best players, they still try to win. Having fun is the most important thing to a game, but I've learned that if you don't try to win, then you're ruining everyone else's fun.
i understand samoht's logic and why he thought what he thought - but at the same time, he should have killed a "confirmed" person and then claimed vanilla town
Hey, first time hosting and I was taught incorrectly.
I do want to apologize to Samoht, though. This is feeling like a great trainwreck for a game
To explain, a large part of playing the doc role is to avoid being outted early, to protect power roles or players more likely to be town if there are no power roles claimed.
Whereas the cop isn't that badly handicapped by claiming with an active doc.
A doc being allowed to self-protect creates a secondary game of WIFOM for the scum to navigate through (will he or will he not self protect) which is really unfair to the scum and just makes things screwy.

Besides which, an unnightkillable auto-confirmed townie is incredibly tough for the mafia to overcome. I've had to deal with that as scum, and it's frustrating.
So, other then the self-protecting doc, the game was balanced.

I was under the impression that a doctor can protect his/herself, but, just like any other protect, they couldn't protect the same target twice in a row...

Am I just totally wrong here?
Why can't a doctor protect the same target twice in a row?
....what game did you learn that from?

While this isn't a traditional doctor, I don't think it would be a particularly unbalanced variant. A little weird flavorfully, but interesting alternative.
yaaaaay! a win! and I was right about Samoht before he claimed
with regards to my role of Cortana, what would have happened if I had died SSB? how would you have narrated?. I meant to ask, but never got round to it.
@zindabad: I didn't think I was scummy. oops I certainly wouldn't have counter claimed if I was.
poor samoht, he didn't really stand a chance
it was a good game, it just took the worst possible outcome for scum.
For the record, the way loran is describing the doctor is the way it is usually set up for mafiascum and mtgs.
The angel role, which was the original role that the doctor was adapted from, did traditionally follow the model ssb is presenting. Not that anyone is interested, there's been a site playing werewolf basically as long as mafiascum has been playing mafia: footballguys forums. I've played at both scum and FBGs, both sites have fair and fun games with the different rules. Usually, though, the baddies have more powers (and usually +1 person) to make up for the power of village (town) roles. This was well done, ssb, but you probably could have used a godfather or BG scholar role.

Godfathers and other such roles are generally discouraged in newb games here, as we don't think lying to newbs is appropriate for a mod to do.

Technically, this was the last newb game to not have to conform to the new standards, haing been started before newb 23 finished. So, godfather was a possible role here.
The setup was probably balanced anyway. The dayvig can't be roleblocked, unlike the normal vig, but the neutral counts as a mafia at lylo.
On a side note, I still haven't reached day 3 of a game yet...
Don't talk...there was one stretch where I died in 5 consecutive games on day 1/night 1.
Too much scum- NKed Night 1,
Hollywood- Lynched Day 1, Investigated N0,
L5R-Daykilled day 1,
and two others i can't recall. Seriously, awful.

I was refering to samoht being extremely scummy at the start of the game, I nearly had him lynched until you went and had to put suspicion on me
funny thing was, it was just tired bemusement. i wasn't even trying to get you lynched about the whole thing, i was just tired and it struck a nerve or something.

Bah, I was pretty much sure you were scum half way through our argument, you definitly struck a nerve, my scumdar nerve =p, I didn't even see how I was scummy in the whole thing :/ I guess I wasnt trusted as town after newb 23, I honestly didn't know what ced was on about, and we probly would have one easier (more easily then it was) if he didn't say anything, I mean, it was quite obvious the AE was scum, I knew it from the start of the game, all I had to do was get you lynched to seal the game.

And I have to say, as town, there is nothing I appreciate more than a mafioso that claims neutral in order to try to stay alive.
Y'know, instead of claiming vanilla town in a game with FIVE GUARANTEED VANILLA TOWNIES.
But yeah, superb town performance.
