Evil has been vanquished yet again, and the heroes of the Final Fantasy series decided to get together and celebrate. During the festivities, however, something went horribly wrong. The Game Genie (hereby referred to as your mod) decided to spice up the party by 'modifying' some personalities.
So, to everyone's horror this morning, they found Zidane (Final Fantasy IX), lying dead in a pool of his own blood.
This is no longer "fun and games", it's "life or death".
Rules (adapted from Axelrod's Star Trek Mafia):
Nights will last approximately 48 hours. If all choices come in sooner, night may end sooner. If your choice doesn’t get in on time, you will do nothing.
The day will last as long as necessary. If there is a need, I will impose a deadline.
Votes must be in BOLD, Vote: Disrupt_Your_Hymn (like this) or they will not be counted.
Lynches happen after a majority is reached. Once a player has the required amount of votes, he or she may be considered dead and you may not unvote. (well, you can, but I will ignore it.)
You may also VOTE: No Lynch. If a majority vote for this the day will end without a lynch.
If a deadline is reached with no majority achieved there will be no lynch.
Once your death scene is posted you are, well, dead. No more posting please (a short farewell post, like “Bah,” is okay, but no talking about the game)
Do not edit or delete your posts.
Do not quote my PMs. This will be the quickest way to get yourself modkilled. Any attempt to "game the system" (using outside or mod-given information) will result in the same. Be very careful when paraphrasing. PM me if you have any questions- I am more allowing than forgiving.
All the “Good” players have been given a Win Condition along the lines of “You win when the mafia is dead.” Don’t go asking anyone for their exact wording (see rule 9).
No communication outside the thread unless your role specifically allows it.
If you anticipate being gone for more than 48 hours please post in the thread to say so. I will expect everyone to post at least once every two days.
Mod decisions are final.
Remember this is a game, have fun! Be tricky, be ruthless, do what it takes to win, but not at anyone's personal expense.
Dead (5/11)
NPC (Zidane, Final Fantasy IX) Found in a pool of his own blood, Night 0. Shino Tenshi Coiled Flame (Squall Leonhart, Final Fantasy VIII, Mafia) Lynched Day 1.
Pod (Cloud Strife, Final Fantasy VII, Vanilla Town) Killed Night 1, Blunt-force trauma to the head.
Wrath_Of_Dog (Ramza Beoulve, Final Fantasy Tactics, Town Backup), Modkilled Day 2.
AbbeyGargoyle (Kimahri, Final Fantasy X, Mafia) Lynched Day 2.
Cyan (Kain Highwind, Final Fantasy IV, Vanilla Town) Killed Night 2, Blunt-force trauma and magical explosive death.
@Pod: A bye for the town? Please explain. Also, I can't believe that you're suggesting that ZDS use that god-awful orange color again, we should lynch you on principle for that
@ZDS: From what I understand, French men look so feminine that calling them 'handsome' is actually a disservice.
@G&E: So...you don't know anything about the game, but, your first reaction to anything was a real vote, which apparently had thought behind it? Vote Good&Evil
There are millers though! Really there are..
/sarcasm
@ZDS: Pod just doesn't like me, and is mad that I random voted myself before he got the chance to do so(of course, it wouldn't really have been random in his case, and he did it anyway).
I think that the Cult Leader joke has been played out since like..the second time it was mentioned. Considering that last time was like the 2 milionth time(slight exaggeration for emphasis), please stop.
I'm starting to realize that I can't play Newb Mafia anymore I'm too used to being able to scoff at the 'I'm new' excuse, but like..it COULD actually be valid here.
I still like my vote where it is, though..I have a hard time believing that someone who knew absolutely nothing about the game, as town, would come into it voting immediately.
Well, it's hard for me to say for sure, since I didn't start a game as townie until I had played like 5 games. But logically, if you're starting a game and are newb town, you're not going to immediately start casting votes at people, you would be in the process of trying to learn how to play the game and what everything means. To just come out swinging like that seems like something a newb scum(something I have real experience as, heh) would erronously do because that's how scums win the game. Plus, a newb scum is very likely to use the 'I'm new' excuse as their first line of defense, and that is what has happened here. On top of that, I just get a general feel of..defensiveness..from G&E's posts.
The problem is that all of this could simply be due to G&E being a new player, and as such I feel bad getting on his/her case about it. But then, that's how you learn, and if all it took in Newb Mafia to not get voted was acting erratically and saying 'But I'm new!', no one would ever get lynched.

Also, I didn't like that last post by G&E either.
So what would an experienced Mafia player do?
Vote the noob because it's an easy option and other less experienced players might follow?
Sweet crap, there were a lot of posts in the last hour and a half... I'm flabbergasted, I've never seen something like this happen before, all the games I've ever been in take days to get half this many posts... This will take some getting used to, the whole actually getting to play the game thing. And humor too, I might just die from all this shock...
let's see...everytime I played random.org has never led me wrong. So to that end I will Random Vote:HRoth-Gar and hope that my lifespan of luck hasn't run out this time.
That logic was great..the first three times that someone used it. Plus, clearly, we are past the random voting stage.
@Pod: It takes 7 to lynch, not 5, and Ged is probably right that yours and my vote didn't count since we posted before the day technically began(this was an accident on my part)
Actually, the whole reason that I made that post was to see if anyone that is blatantly new would jump on the bandwagon and basically say 'I'm Mafia looking for an easy lynch'. Pod and Ged are too experienced to go for this(Pod would have voted me anyway out of spite, but, I think he realized my plan and was just trying to help)..and Ged's vote was a joke. However, I do believe that Wrath of Dog fell for it. Unvote, Vote Wrath of Dog
@H'Roth-Gar: You forgot the ' in your name. It's just not nearly as cool now. Anyway, yeah, games get alot more content here than at some other places, and people are more laidback, initially at least.
It is, in fact, 6 to lynch not 7. However, I do agree with Cyan. The argument that he's always scum is funny the first time, amusing the second, and bandwagoning the third. Not to mention unfunny.
Anyway, general impressions so far: I like to give everyone who I consider a real noob the noob excuse once per game and will thus pardon G&E this time. Don't go acting stupid too much, though. ZDS is annoying but doesn't seem to be scummy at the moment. So far WoD seems the most scummiest for his two line post, the only thing he's said, including bandwagoning and bad jokes. The 3+ people who haven't posted yet should.
Oh, and we're nearing the end of the random voting phase of the game. Unvote.
Sorry for my lack of posting. I hadn't realized the game was up and running, and I have had an EXHAUSTING day. I didn't get a chance to read the happenings yet, I will do that first thing tomorrow morning. I will be quite a bit more active, the beginning of this just caught me on a busy day. My apologies.
Oh, weird, why did I think that newbs 7/8 had 12..I'm losing it or something.
I'm sure they'll post soon, the game has only technically been up for 1/2 a day..of course, people seem much less inclined to post now that the random voting/random silliness stage is over, heh.
A)There's no correlation between experienced players and scum in newb mafia. If there were anything like this going on, experienced players would probably be given Vanilla Town roles, as Vanilla Town is essentially the most difficult role to play.
B)Generally speaking, you're only even allowed to play in Newb Mafia if you have completed less than 2 games at this site, so, newb mafia having experienced players is kind of an oxymoron. DYH simply made an exception this time, and wanted to have some experienced people around for whatever reason.
You were also in the last Newb Mafia, Cyan, along with such veterans as Mosschop and ZDS...
And you were scum in there. I know I am being defensive, and am completely NOT required to explain my vote, but... Oh wait, no further explanation
Quote from ZeDorkSlipeur »
Oh noes ! Zidane is dead ! Frances's national football/soccer team can't win a game anymore !
Err…*sorry.
So, well, Vote Pod. We won last game after we lynched him day one, why not do it again ?
EBWOS : UnVote. From last game, we have the undiscutable proof that :
Are the Mafia.
Also, G&E, I can explain this post
I started to follow the last Newb game about halfway through, and at the end, when the town won, it was discovered that the mafioso in that game were simply the last three ppl on the list. As such, ZDS is implying that since you are one of the last three this time, you must be mafioso.
Mosschop and ZDS aren't Veterans..I think that Mosschop has played 2 total games of Mafia, and they were both Newb..ZDS has played like 3, if you count Power Rangers, which is still going. I've played alot more than that, but, I honestly don't think of myself as a Veteran.
Whether or not I was scum there(and the Newb before that, and Star Trek Mafia), is completely irrelevant.
Also, if you think that you don't have to explain your votes, you are woefully misinformed.

Uh, I was random voting you because I saw you were scum last newb. End of thought process. If it was a serious vote, I would have given it a serious explanation.
So, because I was scum in one game, you felt that this qualified the statement that I am 'always scum'? Also, you didn't see anything strange about making that post, even though 3 other people had already said exactly the same thing?

First off, one game?
Secondly, it was a random vote that I knew I was going to place even before the game started. I've taken it back because I agree it was ungrounded.
No, I didnt see anything strange about making that post. Should anything posted on Day One really be taken that seriously?
You were the one that said that I was likely to be scum in this game because I was scum in Newb 8. Now, if I understand correctly, you're insinuating that it's because I've been scum multiple times. Well, which is it, and why are you contradicting yourself?
No, I didnt see anything strange about making that post. Should anything posted on Day One really be taken that seriously?
Day 1 is generally one of the most informative days in a game of Mafia. No one has died, no lynches have been forced, no scum have been discovered, no investigations have been run...Day 1 is when people are least on their guard, and most likely to make mistakes. Yes, there is a period at the beginning of Day 1 where alot of silliness and random posting occurs, but, this ends quickly, and then plenty of serious, informative posting occurs. And honestly, many 'random' votes are in reality not 'random' at all. Like yours. In summation, yes, things posted on Day 1 should be taken very seriously indeed.

I have faith that DYH actually knows how to setup a game.
How dare you sully my honor with faulty logic! Though I will agree that those other two are probably scum...

Which last game? i've never playe Mafia before this.
Vote ZeDorkSlipeur
Read what? I've never played before. In fact I'm annoying Disrupt with my PM's trying to figre out what I should be doing
Please explain why you felt that it was acceptable to place a vote on ZDS when you did, especially if you've never played the game before.
Also, I wouldn't put a third vote on him for this reason (except in IRC mafia...), those first two clearly didn't count as day hadn't started yet.
Btw this is Noob 9 so things are meant to be hosted differently here. You know for that something new and special.
@ZDS: From what I understand, French men look so feminine that calling them 'handsome' is actually a disservice.

Rather than cult leader I'd say you're a Zidane slayer!!
I'll be happy to explain myself, as soon as G&E answers the question.
I'm actually still trying to get the hang of the game. And that includes casting votes to persons who accuse you. Seems logical enough to me.
All seek out the real Materazzi!
Unvote ZeDorkSlipeur
Vote Cyan
Seriously voting against someone just for accusing(or even voting you) is generally one of the scummiest things that you can do.
I'm still trying to learn
QFT
Voting? That's not really summy is it?
Anyway Unvote Cyan. Guess that I'll start putting more thought into my votes from now on.
I suppose especially if that involves voting you oh mighty leader
