What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.
'Welcome to Mafia Salvation', it said, 'Population: 3,660.' And someone, they never figured out who, had painted on the sign in red letters: '1,831 to lynch.'
He could disagree with anyone he wanted, but I would only count the first three he disagreed with as potential targets; he then had to pick at most one of them that night.
Marvin was set to become a doc eventually.
avabob had a role much like bluesoul's. He was functionally untargetable unless he wanted to be.
Puzzle targets him with a kill, and avabob decides to let it through because he thought it was an investigation.
Abandon Hope's role was kind of fun for me.
He was a townie who could only be lynched if the number of votes on him was equal to the majority plus two minus twice the number of times Agrajag had died.
The idea was that Agrajag would manipulate fate to make it harder and harder for Arthur to stay afloat, the more angry he got at being killed.

Machin Shin was a mafia doc and a roleblocker. I put his role in specifically to balance out several of the power roles of the rest of the town, and I was sorry to see him go before ever getting a chance to have an impact.

I love Joboman, Poggy, Niv, and Vezok, because, while they may not be the best players, they still try to win. Having fun is the most important thing to a game, but I've learned that if you don't try to win, then you're ruining everyone else's fun.
Contrary to everything Abso told you, he did not have to post in poems.
At least not all the time. Just 4 lines of every post.
Come on. I'm not THAT cruel.
He could also send a poem to people at night. He sent one to Twomz trying to recruit him into a "mason group" of his own design, but then Twomz died.
Fayul was the only other person he talked to, when he tried to break the game by united the neutral and the scum.
P_F was HOTBLACK DESIATO! I mean, how did you not get that?! I figured his role would be the most obvious one of any in the game, and he role-played it extremely well. Huge props to him; I really enjoyed his performance.

I felt like an IDIOT, believe me. As soon as you revealed it, I said "...wow, I'm retarded."
Puzzle was Number Two, which I thought would be the scummiest-sounding name in the game. Everyone just took it in stride, though, when he claimed cop. I found that astonishing.
He was a roleblocker unless he decided to use a singular daykill ability. people would stop being scared of him once he used his gun. He killed Az, obviously.
Puzzle was SCUM!
Every once in a while, I would forget that I was modding this game, and almost start to write something about how obviously suspicious Puzzle was.
Honestly, you should have lynched him on Day 4, after he failed to come up with the delayed inspection that Twomz' ability would have given him that day, if at no other time.
armlx's ability was that he had to say facts about frogs. Three the first day, and then increasing by three each day afterward.
I didn't actually expect him to do them all in one post each time, but I suppose it makes more sense that way. It made it much more obvious that he was Prak.
Twomz PM'd me after he was dead with a bunch of guesses about players' identities. I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but I think he was right on every count, including (most impressively to my mind) Kenji. The reference to Ronald reagan was so obscure and difficult to grasp that I thought no one would catch it until they could see the whole setup.
armlx also had to send me two names a night, the first of which would be inspected, and the second of which would be forwarded to the Man Who Rules the Universe, to await judgment about when and whether that player would die.
I kind of liked the design, because it was generally anti-town as long as he was alive, but enormously in favor of the town once he died, which is highly in-flavor for Prak. Of course, the only person the MWRTU killed turned out to be mafia, so it didn't really work out like I planned. Oh well.

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, the wisdom to know the difference, and a ****ing chainsaw.
I'm still confused by so many of the roles in this game.
I thought being a Mason Scum was pretty strong, though I assumed you never told Jobie flat out that I was town. Jobie's strong defense of me came as a welcome surprise Day 1. And then he was kind enough to give me all these abilities the following Night, for which we killed him.
But up until last Night I still wasn't sure the abilities were "real." I tried to use the one-shot kill on Kenji and it failed (was he protected?). Then I tried role-blocking WOLG and he made no mention of anything out of the ordinary occuring. Then, after Kenji was revealed as Vig. and armlx's "List of Instant Mafia Loss" came out we decided to put the "block" on him just in case.
Are you saying Fayul really was a SK, but she just never killed anyone? And she was lying about being able to win with either side? Weird.
My role is that I get any one ability at night that I claim to have during the day. I was expecting the town to go along with me and get the scum to get nightkills on all the rest of the town, and then when it comes down to 1 scum/1town/me, I place the final vote on the scum and claim unblockable SK. Or something. I don't know. This game confuses me.

CP, please explain my role, since I totally am unable to do it myself. I just needed one more lynch, and then the town would start rolling with "hey, Fayul was right", and I think I could have won that. c'est la vie.

I mean, I was playing dumb most of this game (I seem to do that a lot), but I completely missed that the first time it came up. The first player on the replacement list gets to "post-mine" someone?
Also, everyone viewing this thread that's in the game needs to go post in RTK mafia before it dies. :|

Kenji's role was to test just how far the town was prepared to go in believeing the mod.
A confirmed townie with immunity to a single vote per day, and a single instance of nightkill immunity, plus vig powers.
After he killed three people, his win condition was slated to change, but it never got to that point because Kenji played so conservatively.
The reference is actually from The Salmon of Doubt, a book I would have been surprised to learn anyone here had read.
I am amazed that you were willing to believe that such a ridiculous role was in the game. Here I was trying to play off your gullibility, and you turn out to be more gullible than I ever imagined. I should have just made it a straight-up anti-town role just to teach you all a lesson.

Well we knew he wasn't mafia. That's not an argument you want to be leading with if you're scum.
I so want to see a complete list of roles. Holy crap, I thought I'd throw my monitor out the window when I saw that Kenji had counter-claimed me to get me lynched. I sooooo wanted him to go down for that. I loved D_Y_H's post listing all surviving mafia, we had been looking forward to extra help. I was doubtful early in the game, when many people's lists of top 3 scum were entirely right, but fortunately we had the Ford Prefect safe claim and false mason to help counter that. All in all, a great game to play in and follow along with CP.

Unfortunately, I cannot find my list. I think I may have accidentally deleted it.
CropCircles might have a copy, however.
The only role I haven't detailed is Fayul's, though. She did such an excellent job of explaining it herself that I figured I'd just let her go with it. Or let TWS come in and brag about his master strategy.

Slartibartfast, Coastline Designer – Town. You win when all the scum are dead. Each cycle (a day and a night), you may target a player. Any ability that player tries to use through the following day will not take place until 10 million years later - or at least 2 days later - at the beginning of that day. You may save up these uses, 1 per night, and use several at once later in the game, if you wish. At any point in the game, once per player, you may send the Mod a guess about the rolename and abilities of that player. If you are completely correct, from that point on, you will be informed whenever they try to use an ability. You may respond by delaying it, if you wish. Abilities that have been delayed may be delayed again.
You know, y'all can just post y'alls too.
And this is what I sent to CP (and his response)

You are very insightful. I'm sorry that someone with such a clear grasp of the novel was killed so early on.
However, I will not comment on the nature of anyone's role.
W/ the way the game played out, i would have much rather been mafia. I probably would have come out Day 1, the same way i did as town... but i wouldn't have attacked puzzle, and i doubt he would have tried to lynch me. I could have "checked" power roles for the town... then blocked them in the end game... :-/.
EDIT: CP is probably posting so much because he's 1 away from 2000 right now. Also, i've read the Salmon of Doubt, and i don't remember anything about ronald regan...
Yeah, as Elvis I could blind somebody with the sequins on my outfit for a roleblock, or hang out near somebody's door singing "Don't Be Cruel" to protect from a nightkill. Since I had both, I could've gotten away with claiming one and keeping the other hidden, if I'd had to. I was sooooo pissed that freakin Kenji lied to counter-claim Elvis, and then I was lynched before I could say anything.

Deep Thought, the Second Greatest Computer Ever Built – Scum. Mafia. You win when you equal or exceed the number of non-scum roles. Each night, you may send me PMs, which will be forwarded to Jobie. Jobie may also forward PMs to you via the same method. You have no other abilities. However, Jobie does. If he tells you about his ability, you gain it as well.
Dirk Gently, P.I. – Anytime during the night, you may PM me with a message, which I will forward to Holmes. One time during the game, you may tell him that you have any or all of the following abilities: cop, roleblocker, or a single nightkill. Obviously, this will be a lie, however he will gain the ability. You win with the town.

Yeah, sorry for the deception Twomz. It kinda worked.
My last-minute defense of you was intentional.
I wanted you lynched and myself seeming like a last-minute "Hold on!" guy that was too late. Amazing that nobody questioned me about it.
My initial plan was to mason a bunch of people together and lead an army for the win. It would have worked if I didn't have a fear of getting caught and suddenly confirming a hoarde of townies.
I hesitated sending Fayul a fake list of mafioso just in case she betrayed us. Puzzle seemed so confident in his plan that I decided not to go against the plan.
Also, I didn't have to make everything rhyme. It just gave me an excuse to write a ****load of poetry and seem like an emo townie. If I pulled off a Freudian slip or tell or something, I could blame it on the poetry interpretation.
My real role was to only write 4 lines of rhythmic poetry with rhyming relevant to the matter on hand. I took it a step further and pretended to have a huge handicap.
This also gave me an excuse to not post as much.
People generally ignored my posts it seemed as I had nothing useful to say and/or they were too frustrated to deconstruct poems. I liked it that way.
EDIT: Yay win!
If it weren't for armlx's last minute silent cop thing mafia would have made a really clean win with 1 casualty.
A question: Why the hell did nobody ever question me for anything? I was never deemed scummy or questioned or even considered. I was ignored the whole game. Not that it's a bad thing, but I felt left out. I hoped it was because Twomz "confirmed" me and then died.
The Guide, a Bird-like Shadow – Mafia Godfather. Your win condition will be sent separately, along with the list of players who are mafia. Each night, you may inspect a player to learn their role information.
Nobody else has posted it, so here is the message that Abs sent to fayul
props to Puzzle for the plan, which wouldve been awesome if Fayul hadnt lied about her claim...and it's an awesome piece of work by Abs even though it failed
I have a greeting to Fayul, and this is from us
and I will tell you so you won't have to guess.
The mafia consists of Puzzle, Holmes, Beaker and myself.
I tell you this because you can win this game for yourself.
Your predecessor also told us that your lifespan is numbered
So we all collective will make a deal to make your job unencumbered
Supposedly you are a neutral and can win with either side
Join us and help us win; don't let this deal slide.
We have a way to end this game, not taking a while to do
This plan's element is speed and all depends on you:
As soon as the day begins, an FoS will be cast on me by Beaker
Take note to verify that he will be the speaker.
Then Puzzle will reply with the remark of "Well, that was unexpected"
This all will prove to you that we are all connected.
We want you to cast a vote on WOLG, to push a blitzed lynch
Then we will all pile on the bandwagon faster than you can flinch.
The day will be over and the mafia would have won
alongside you, as you are, the one to have the fun.
Note that you do not have to comply with this deal
But hopefully this idea strikes your appeal.
Again, we have a slower way to win the game
the end result may just as well be the same.
But your life is shifty and you may die randomly any day
The longer you make us wait the longer you'll pray.
Just for your information, this is Absolutionis with this poetic rhyme
And messaging people through the mod is the ability of my crime.
I am Samuel Taylor Coolridge, a poet in the DA books
I'm coming clean so you believe the way my offer looks.
Hope you'll take this deal into consideration
and it will fancy your fascination.
We help you by helping you to win
and you help us by preventing any curveballs to the shin.
Let this come as no mystery
We're about to make history!
mafia MVP has to go to puzzle, great job!!:D
DM, we all decided you needed to die, because i had investigated you, and we were told at that time, you had un-lynchability, and we needed to avoid your abilities growing
Yeah, the mafia's plan with me was actually pretty brilliant, if I actually COULD win with either side. :|

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, the wisdom to know the difference, and a ****ing chainsaw.
My initial thoughts:
Dammit people, listen to me when I say someone is scum. I picked up on Holmes at the very beginning. And noone listened to me, even though Holmes kept acting scummily. Oh well, I guess it was my fault.
I wish we followed some people's suspicions more. KCW caught on to beaker early on, and we should have tried to pursue that. I caught on to holmes. Only Twomz caught on to Puzzle.
I definitely think the best player in this game was Puzzle. He was able to convince everyone that he was town, and he was beneficial and necessary. As such, I let him target me. I was hesitant, because as he claimed it, I had a possibility of dying, but I thought it would be worth the risk to confirm myself. I hadn't considered the possibility that he could be a mafia. (I am a bit surprised you guys didn't ask for his investigation the next day, though.)
Dammit Jobie, it didn't say you were a mason. It said you could communicate and give holmes powers, but it said nothing about being a mason. This is why assuming something is a bad idea.
For reference, here was my role:
Zaphod Beeblebrox the Nothingth, the Fugitive President of the Galaxy – Town Egotist. You win with the town. You get to know when anyone would target you. You also get to choose whether or not to let that person do so.
Lol, we might have had a better chance if the roles weren't so complex too :).
Seriously though... the thought that a mafiaso could send messages to random townies at night never crossed my mind.
It seems as if the mafia mvp should be puzzle (grrrr)... but who would be the town mvp? Personally i think y'all all are lvp's for not listening to me and killing puzzle :-/, but i don't know who an mvp would be.
I seriously cannot believe Holmes wasn't the lynch on the last day.
Incidentally, the Dirk Gently role is yet another example of why any mason not explicitly declared town should not be completely trusted.
The worst example I've seen of that is still We Didn't Start The Fire mafia on mafiascum, where there was a two-man masonry (both town) and a three-man (one was scum), and the two town members of the three-man were so sure their comrades were all town and that the other masons must be mafia that they lied and said their PMs said they were all town.
So the town lynched both of the town masons pair, and the scum won flawless. I think BabyJesus (one of those town masons) had a heart attack when he discovered that the town members of the trio had lied in response to his direct question as to whether it said in their PMs that they were all town.
You morons, you should have listened to me. I was saying BEAKER BEAKER KILL BEAKER NOW NOW NOW, and I even knew that he was either The Guide or Hotblack. Didn't it send off warning signs to anyone when I was killed after maintaining Beaker was scum?

That always had me concerned. Well, mostly when I was still in the game.
How did you "know" he was mafia, and why did you think he was Guide 2.0 or Hotblack?

What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.

Quote from CP »
Marvin, the Paranoid Android – Town Naysayer. For every strategy posed by any player, if you argue against it, you get a point. If you convince them not to do it that day, you get another point. You gain abilities based on the number of points you have. You may not gain more than 1 ability per day. You must logically demonstrate doing this for each point. Arguing against the same strategy twice does not count, except insofar as you are able to convince the town not to use such strategy. Arguing against a plan with any argument such as, “because I have a secret plan,” or “I have an ability that depends on me doing this,” will not only not get you points, but will cause you to lose the ability to get points at all. If you agree with or submit support for any strategy you previously opposed, you will lose the point you would otherwise have gained. (10 points per ability? 1 lynch immunity, doc, untargetability at night, cop, vig.) Zem, a Mattress from Squornshellous Zeta – As one of the most outgoing of your species, you have a great deal of experience dealing with people. You have a good feel for the morals that people have. You may investigate one player per night, and you will learn their alignment. (So obviously naïve, it hurts). Also, at any time during the day or night, any number of times, you may send me this command: /Flobber (Mod will then make a note in his next post to the effect that ~ flobbered). Zarniwoop, the Smug HHGG Executive – A social climber who thinks he’s discovered Mount Everest, you have a great tendency to make mountains out of molehills. You lose unless you can get someone to claim that they are the Man Who Rules the Universe. If there is such a player, and he dies before claiming, you will receive a new WC. Each night, you may inspect two players, whose rolenames will be provided to you. However, you will not be told which name belongs to which player. If you PM me with the name of a player correctly identifying him as Zaphod Beeblebrox, bonus information will be revealed to him regarding the identity of your target. Barring fulfillment of your lose condition, you win with the town. (This is inelegant, but I still need a way to make it clear that the Man is relevant to the game.) Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the Poet – Mafia. You must speak in rhyming, rhythmic verse for at least four lines of every post. They can’t be irrelevant either. You may quote a real poem, but only if it is actually important to the context of your post. Otherwise, you’ll have to make it up yourself. Nightly, you may “PM” (through the mod, obv.) a player with a poem of at least 12 lines, saying whatever you want to say. The Ancient Mariner, an Alien – neutral. Each night, you may tell someone your sad story to get them to do your bidding. The following day, you may vote and unvote on their behalf, if you wish. You win if all characters from the Dirk Gently books and real life Earth history are eliminated by the end of the game. (Coleridge, Dirk, Reagan, Elvis?) Tricia McMillan, the Astrophysicist Anchorwoman – watcher. If you watch a player who is unquestionably an alien life-form (about a third of the characters are such [Zem, Mariner, Zaphod, Krikkiter, Agrajag, Hotblack, and Prak), you will be forced to quit your job in the belief that nobody will believe your story. If this happens, you will gain the ability to investigate people instead. However, if it happens again, you lose all abilities. Zaphod Beeblebrox the Nothingth, the Fugitive President of the Galaxy – Egotist. You get to know when anyone would target you. You also get to choose whether or not to let that person do so. The Man Who Rules the Universe – Neutral. 1st replacement. You aren’t a part of the game, but nevertheless, each night you will be given the name of a player, and no other information about him. You must then choose whether or not that player will die, and at what post #. This effect cannot be blocked, redirected, or otherwise changed. Deep Thought, the Second Greatest Computer Ever Built – Mafia. Masons with “Dirk.” You have no abilities. However, Dirk does. If he tells you about his ability, you gain it as well. A Krikkiter – neutral. You win when all other players are dead. During the day, you may say in the thread that you have any ability you can think of, except this one, or a similar one. You may not claim more than one ability per day. As soon as you say that you have an ability, you do, until the end of the following night. Any claim of a variable ability of any kind, such as Jack of all Trades, will result in a loss of this ability. Any hint that this is the case, including any subliminal hint that I catch, or that someone else brings to light, will also result in a loss of this ability. Anything that you suspect would allow a player to conclude from your actions what your ability is, you probably shouldn’t do. Abilities that allow multiple actions per night are also forbidden (i.e. you can’t claim to be a vig with two kills, or a roleblocker that also doesn’t allow the targeted player to vote next day, or anything like that. No extra layers.). However, claiming such abilities will not cause you to lose the ability. Slartibartfast, Coastline Designer – Town. Each cycle (day or night), you may target a player. Any ability that player tries to use through the following day will not take place until 10 million years later - or at least 2 days later, at the beginning of that day. You may save up these uses, and use several at once later in the game, if you wish. At any point in the game, once per player, you may send the Mod a guess about the rolename and abilities of that player. If you are completely correct, from that point on, you will be informed whenever they try to use an ability. You may respond by delaying it, if you wish. Abilities that have been delayed may be delayed again. Wonko, the Sane – ? Agrajag, the Repeatedly Killed – If Arthur Dent is a member of the bandwagon when you are lynched, or if he is otherwise responsible for your death (nightkill, etc.), you will be resurrected at the beginning of the day following your death. You lose if Arthur Dent is still alive at the end of the game. The Guide, a Bird-like Shadow – Mafia Godfather. Each night, you may inspect a player to learn their role information. (If Arthur Dent dies, ~ dies, too.) Ronald Reagan, an Innocent – every day, at the beginning of each day, the town will be told that ~ is innocent. Vig. (1 Nightkill immunity. Kill descriptions get more and more gruesome as days go by.) The first vote against you every day does not count. Number Two – Mafia. Kill-O-Zap gun gives a single daykill. You also know that Ford Prefect is not in the game. You are also a roleblocker for as long as you haven’t used your daykill. People won’t be scared of you once you lose your gun. Hotblack Desiato, the Dead Rock Star – As long as you’re alive, you must post in all caps. Once you die, you still get to vote, once per post, though you may not otherwise post. Remember, no double posting. Prak, Who Took Too Much of the Drug – Send in the name of two players each night. (Investigations of the former players will be forthcoming upon his death) (Names of the latter players will be sent to the Man Who rules the Universe.) You must also state a fact about frogs at least 3 times per day. Rob McKenna, Rain God – Makes night targets untargetable. No post you make may be less than 100 words long? Elvis – Mafia. Some kind of role nixer. Less powerful than a standard roleblocker. Dirk Gently, P.I. –“Masons” with “Deep Thought.” You may communicate at any time with him, via the mod. One time during the game, you may tell him that you have one of the following abilities: cop, roleblocker, or a single nightkill. Obviously, this will be a lie, however he will gain the ability. You win with the town (or if Deep Thought is alive at the end of the game). Arthur Dent, Clueless Hitchhiker – It takes a majority plus a number to lynch you. (This number is 2 minus twice the number of times Agrajag has died.)
I'm thinkin' Az's got some competition for "Best Game of 2006."
Wonko, the Sane – You have a bowl full of wheat germ. If a player targets you at night, you can throw wheat germ at them. Due to the special-ness of the bowl it's in, the germ will cause them to be disgusted and leave. Unfortunately, you will then be out of wheat germ, so you can’t use the ability again. However, you will have a cool fishbowl to listen to. If you die, you will be given a final choice of who to will your fishbowl to. They will then be able to use it to gain one vital piece of information to benefit their side, or else they will gain an extra, one-time use, ability. The bowl will continue to be passed around in this fashion.
EDIT: See, I didn't lie about the four PMs either. Note that that role had neither an alignment or a win condition.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the Poet – Mafia.
EDIT : in fact, this plan was necessary to win. Without it, Fayul wouldn't have claimed unlynchable and we probably couldn't have gotten Fayul lynched.
I never claimed unlynchable, TWS did. It sucks to be killed because of the guy you're replacing.

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, the wisdom to know the difference, and a ****ing chainsaw.
Not only was the role pm obviously not a true cop, but my first investigation result seemed to be carefully avoiding implying that my information is correct.
i wish he had claimed un-lynchability
All he had to do was to expressly state that he disagreed with that player during the day. Hence, he quotes himself and disagrees.
Then he gets daykilled.

Oh well.

Because my win condition was to be the only one left alive? :|
Weird.
I totally told the other mafia not to trust her.
Puzzle is still my MVP

So I have to ask (morbid curiosity) who decided I had to die, and why?
Nobody else has posted it, so here is the message that Abs sent to fayul
props to Puzzle for the plan, which wouldve been awesome if Fayul hadnt lied about her claim...and it's an awesome piece of work by Abs even though it failed
and I will tell you so you won't have to guess.
I'm a dumbass for letting Puzzle target me.

Twomz's Trading thread
BTW: I personally think that this should have been a specialty. Yeah, it was that awesomecrazysauce.
Props to Abso for doing so much with his posting restriction, too bad he didn't manage to remain un-inspected.
