Bad 90s Teen Slasher Mafia
...so it looks like it is up to you, her peers, to determine the culprits, and bring them to justice!
In a game of mafia, the 2 basic roles are Townie and Mafioso. In this game, the town will be made up of those trying to figure out who killed Jenny and stop them from killing again. For the town to win, they must kill all members of the mafia. Most townies have only one tool: the lynch.
-While the game is in "Day" mode, any player may post in the thread. They may also FOS or Vote.
-FOS stands for Finger of Suspision. It has no direct bearing on the game, but it is a nice way to let everyone know who you are suspicious of.
-When any one player has reached a number of votes equal to the majority of the players in the game, that player will be lynched and the game will go into night.
-You may only be voting for 1 player at a time. If you want to change your vote, you must type Unvote before doing so.
-Votes, Unvotes, and FOSes should be bolded. (ex. Vote CropCircles or Fos CropCircles)
There are 2 roles that are very common in mafia games that will be used in this game as well. The Cop and the Doctor, which are both town roles.
-During the night, the Cop may send me the name of 1 player he would like to investigate. I will then reveal to the Cop whether that player is a mafioso or a townie.
-The Doc sends me the name of a player that he would like to protect. That player will be immune to nightkills for that night. (Note: The doc may not protect himself)
The mafia, or those who killed Jenny, will win when they exceed or equal the town in number(at which point, they control the lynch). They may also post during the day and use both Votes and FOSes. However, they have another tool: the ability to nightkill.
-While the game is in night, the mafia may communicate with each other.
-Then, one of them will send me the name of 1 player to be killed.
-Once I have received the mafia's Night Choice, as well as the choice of any other player with a Night Ability, I will post a morning scene, and Day will start.
There may or may not be other roles in this game. For reference, here are a few other possible roles.
-Vigilante: The Vigilante is a killer on the Town side who can either choose to kill every night, or choose to kill a certain number of times during the game, depending on the variation.
-Back-up Doc: Assumes the Doctor's abilities after the Doctor dies.
-Back-up Cop: Assumes the Cop's abilities after the Cop dies.
-Role blocker: Chooses one player per night to block from performing his or her Night Choice.
-Mason: The Masons are a group on the Town's side who know each other to be townies and can talk to each other at Night.
Role PMs are going out now. When you receive your role, make sure to confirm your read receit. Once everyone has done this, the Day will begin.
The Official Rules: (as stolen from LJustus, who stole them from Puzzle, who stole them from...(and editted by me))
1. Votes: Bold your votes and unvotes. They should look like this Vote CropCircles. Unvote before casting a new vote, by typing Unvote. Any votes or unvotes not in bold will not be counted. You may vote No lynch, and a majority of these votes will end the day without a death.
2. Do not quote my PM's. Breaking this rule results in an instant modkill.
3. Do not speak about this game outside this thread unless it is night and your role intends you to do so.
4. Please do not edit or delete your posts no matter how stupid a mistake you made.
5. Once you’re dead, you’re dead, so stop posting. You may have ONE 'goodbye post', but if it contains any strategy or information, your side instantly loses.
6. If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. I will not wait for you – if you do not submit a choice to me, tough! No choice will be made.
7. Executions will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, his pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded.
8. If you are requesting a mod prod or vote count, Bold your request so that I can see it more clearly.
9. I want this game to keep moving so I expect everyone to post at least once every two days and if you don't you will receive a prod on the third day. If you still haven't posted I will take further action. If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread or PM me.
10. No Swearing . Nah, you can all forget this rule. Puzzle's kind of a stick in the mud.
11. HAVE FUN!!!!!
12. Lastly and most importantly. Respect me and the rest of the players. I'd rather not have to modkill any players. That's no fun for any of us.

Morning Jenny has been dead for a week now, and the cops have made no arrests. However, she wrote in her LiveJournal that she thought a few of her classmates were lookin' to get revenge of some sort. Unfortunatly, she didn't give any names. You've determined that her killers are among you, and it's time to figure out who they are. Otherwise, you might be next.
It is now Day 1. With 11 alive, it's 6 votes to lynch. Play Mafia!
Let's begin some discussion shall we.
We need to identify the mafia. We also need to identify the various roles people have (like the doc and the cop). BUT dont anybody reveal these things yet otherwise we are giving too much info to the mafia. We need to be more subtle than that.
I guess the question is, does anyone have any information that they can reveal as yet without making themselves vulnerable?
From lurking on the other threads I think that the first thing that usually happens is that people start making random votes against one another. Would anyone like to start?
well, from what I can assume, yee who makes the first vote against another player, is apt to suspicion. That being said, FOS: Passdog,
Just because, 1. I can, and 2. He had the first post, 3. Why does he want to know who everyone's roles are? hmm? Sorry, I’m only looking out for my good friend Jenny.
As a general reminder, I'd like to make sure that you are all aware that you are not aloud to edit your posts in this thread, nor are you allowed to quote PMs that I have sent you. Either of these offenses may result in a modkill, and they're the most common reasons players get modkilled, so I'd just like to remind you all to be careful.
BroomHead has pointed the finger at me in a post that first tries to attack a common norm of the game (ie random voting) and two try and make his vote sound as arbitrary as possible. The fact that he doesn't vote against me indicates to me that he doesn't want to become a suspect himself by putting down the first vote (Note that I could be accused of the same with my first post).
While thin, I think these points are valid and make BroomHead very suspicious in my eyes.

I just realised I didn't address this issue.
For us to better determine who is mafia eventually we will have to begin revealing information about ourselves in an attempt to clear our names or prove the guilt of others.
What BroomHead fails to recognise is that I did nto in anyway advocate an immediate role claim - as shown below:

You want pressure? I'm feeling impulvise, so you got pressure.
Vote: Broomhead
I realized I probably should give a better reason, lest I appear scummy.

BroomHead has pointed the finger at me in a post that first tries to attack a common norm of the game (ie random voting) Eh, maybe he didn't know about this common thing, and technically you didn't vote. and two try and make his vote sound as arbitrary as possible. This seems more scummy than the previous The fact that he doesn't vote against me indicates to me that he doesn't want to become a suspect himself by putting down the first vote (Note that I could be accused of the same with my first post). I wouldn't have thought of this, but it does make sense.
While thin, I think these points are valid and make BroomHead very suspicious in my eyes.Thin indeed, but we've nothing else at the moment, so lets see what happens
I don't like random voting, so I won't vote. But I do think such a "Pro town" post as Passdog's is a little scummy, especially if it hints revealing all the "Town rols".
Passdog, you are coming on awful strong. Trying to bandwagon a vote is an early move by a mafia member. I guess with a game this big, there is alot of early fos's and vots. Please no one else vote for broomhead, as this would give the mafia a quick lynch (if he is a townie)
I'm not gonna unvote yet, as I want to get a reaction, but I agree that passdog did seem a bit scummy, I just think the way that broomhead tried to make his vote seem arbitrary felt wrong, inexperience perhaps, so I am ready to unvote if need be.
Something I also noticed:
I do understand why Passdog is voting for BroomHead (He voted against him), but why is he asking That Which Squeaks (specifically) to do the same?
Something I also noticed:

Just thinking...
Because I was the other one suspicous of broomhead?
And he wanted more pressure on broomhead, which I obliged with.
It's one thing to find another player with the same suspicions as you and another thing to try and lynch him after reading only one post...
We aren't trying to lynch him, we're trying to get a response out of him, this is how the first day goes, random shots in the dark and trying to get people who acted scummy to reveal things.
Nope. I think pressuring some one after one post is too early...
Do you have anything else to go by? We see what broomhead does, if he doesn't act scummy we unvote, if he does, we keep our votes on. We'd need four more people to lynch, and I highly doubt four more will vote for him with the very thin evidence on him. Pressuring someone after one post isn't scummy, pressuring someone after a scummy post is. On that note
FOS: Passdog
I'm still not going to unvote yet though, but, as I said, I'm ready to.

I think the one acting strange is Passdog. He is trying too hard to get on some one in the first day.
yeah, passdog's first post seems like he's jumping into things but id like to hear from him before i decide more
Passdog, or broomhead? Passdog's first was a request for info which could be scummy. Broomhead's was the wierd trying to pass off a vote as random one.
Just wondering, as I'd say the rest of Passdog's post seem like hes jumping into things, not his first.
Broomhead's was wierd, maybe he just talks like that normally? Doubtful. Passdog's first post could be seen as scummy, but what he said was legit. We will need to subtly reveal ourselves if this game is to go anywhere. His other posts just seem like he wants to lynch someone.

Who wouldn't want to lynch someone?:tongue2:
Seriously though, am in accord with MMoD and They Y by saying that while Broomhead's first post is suspicous, Passdog is currently under more suspicion by his want of a lynch?

Uh, yeah, thats "am I in accord" and "The Y", this first of which is neccesary for understanding the post, the 2nd for respect. Hooray for double posts!
Has anyone noticed that d#s and Paranoid haven't posted anything yet*? I find that awfully suspicious. Wouldn't it be a good mafia strategy to not post anything so as not to draw any attention to yourself and just let the townies kill each other? No one can figure you out if you don't give them anything to go with. I think one of them is a mafia member.
*This may have something to do with the stupid things people do on Thanksgiving like spending time with family.
Also, I won't be around for much of tomorrow for reasons that may or may not make me a hypocrite.:p
Well, d20 hasn't been on since two days ago, can't say about Paranoid.
Unrelated note: Broomhead mentioned his "good friend Jenny" (quotes are mine, not his), now, that just seems oddly suspicous to me, but then again, if he means it, then hes town. So I guess the whole point is whether or not we believe broomhead when he starts posting.... and I just realized that this post is pretty much saying the goal of the town.
I find that "my good friend" part rather suspicious. I don't think a townie would have any need to emphasize his or her relationship with the victim, but a mafia member would definitely do it to try to sound like a concerned townie. I think broomhead is both a bad actor and a murderer. We probably won't get any more condemning evidence on day one so...

Vote: Broomhead
You're logic is good, and I agree broomhead has acted scummy, but I now think a vote might be too hasty. Probably should let him post more than once before lynching him, eh?
The reason I FOSed BroomHead, and not voted, is that his post sound scummy, but in a way it's too scummy, thus being really stupid coming from a mafioso.
I mean, "Our dear friend Jenny" (or however he wrote this) is so obviously a non-townie sentence, that it would never come from a mafia. It would be too obvious.
By the way, nobody can be "Not suspicious" by not posting. Not posting = Mod kill. It might be because of the site being down for a day.
For all those voting for Broomhead, please be careful, it would suck to lose a townie first day. I hate to repeat myself, but it's imperative that votes don't get wasted first day to give the mafia a quick lynch. BTW, I probably won't be on much this weekend, spending time with the parential units...
I came back to the forum after about six hours of work and find things are starting to move along nicely. This mafia stuff is great - I'm having a blast already!! The suspicion. The intrigue. Wow!
More seriously, to all those who are advocating people don't vote then I would say that we probably won't get very far today. There are only two ways to general discussion in Mafia. My prefered option is to create speculation through votes and the like, and attempt to deduce he baddies from their posts.
The second is to start letting people die and see who we can catch out. I do not like this option. However it is obviously a fine line between the pressure voting and bandwagoning to death. Unfortunately I can't tell you where the line is.
To those who are concerned that we might accidently vote out a townie: You're right we should be concerned about people trying to bandwagon... only after we get to around three or four votes for one person. It takes six to lynch someone at this stage.
The reason I provoked That Which Speaks to bandwagon was to generate pressure (as I said in my post) on BroomHead. I think that limited pressuring - used carefully - is a solid tactic.
I chose BroomHead to pressure for the reason's detailed in my second post. For these reasons vote stands until BroomHead responds.

Some qualification on that last statement: I am working under the assumption that there are three mafioso. Two is not enough for eleven people, and four seems to be too many. That doesnt take into account any other roles that might exist like a Serial Killer (At any rate I can't see there being more than four antitown players).
What this means is that voting gets risky when we get to around four votes as two mafia to jump on the bandwagon at that stage is enough to lynch. Soooo... three votes is just about the pressure where people start feeling the pressure and begin revealing things. Anybody jumping on after that is likely to be scum.
As an aside our mafia game has a small theme - 90's slasher. Does anyone remember a character named Jenny in any horror flicks? It might gives us a little info on what role names are likely. For those people that have role names see if there are any other connections.
Not Voting
NavyJoe, d24478667, That Which Squeaks, The Y, bertrand, mystery meat of doom, BroomHead, Paranoid
I have taken note of d24478667 and Paranoid, but the game has still only just started. Normally, I'd like to have people post at least once every 2 days, but I'm making an exception since the site was down yesterday. If they do not make a post by around this time tomorrow, I will prod them. They will then have 24 hours to post before I start seeking replacements. I doubt it will come to this though.
I'm pretty sure TWS unvoted me, since I'm not on CropCircle's vote list.
I agree with the 3 mafia statement. It makes alot of sense. There are 11 players right now. I'd have to say around a quarter would be mafia, so that would be around three. There might be a cop, so there would probably be 7 townies left. A Doctor might be here too, which takes the count down to 6 townies, which makes alot of sense (IMO)
Paranoid: I was not protecting Broomhead, I was protecting the town. I have no clue what Broomhead is, ergo, I don't want to see him get voted off and be a townie. I do find it suspicious that everyone else saw the points I was making, except you. You just saw me protecting someone, which wasn't true. So in that case...
"Oh, I know. I totally freaked. I mean, she was in tears and he just left her there."

I do understand why Passdog is voting for BroomHead (He voted against him), but why is he asking That Which Squeaks (specifically) to do the same?
Just thinking...
Because I was the other one suspicous of broomhead?
And he wanted more pressure on broomhead, which I obliged with.
(kinda hit submit to early, eh?)
I read BroomHead's post again.
It is weird.
FOS BroomHead.
It's early in the game, and I get the feeling he wants Broomhead lynched. There's some merit to what he's saying, but it's weak.
Heh, thanks.:tongue2: Agreed its not worthy of a lynch, but it is indeed wierd.
Also, I'm going to Unvote, with a FOS: Broomhead, FOS: Passdog
Broomhead: 1 very odd post.
Passdog: Agressive play. Seeking a quick lynch?
Yeah, but I'm bored. What say we go at something again?:wink2:
Passdog, or broomhead? Passdog's first was a request for info which could be scummy. Broomhead's was the wierd trying to pass off a vote as random one.
Just wondering, as I'd say the rest of Passdog's post seem like hes jumping into things, not his first.
*This may have something to do with the stupid things people do on Thanksgiving like spending time with family.
Also, I won't be around for much of tomorrow for reasons that may or may not make me a hypocrite.:p
3CB and 4CB5CB!Unrelated note: Broomhead mentioned his "good friend Jenny" (quotes are mine, not his), now, that just seems oddly suspicous to me, but then again, if he means it, then hes town. So I guess the whole point is whether or not we believe broomhead when he starts posting.... and I just realized that this post is pretty much saying the goal of the town.
Yeah.... I'm really bored. Someone else start posting!
That Which Squeaks-19 (with this post)
The Y-7
Passdog-4
Beaker-3
MMoD-2
Chimpanzee-2
Bertrand-2
Navy Joe-1
Broomhead-1
d20-0
Paranoid-0
Which means our mod has... 4
Vote Count:
Broomhead-1 (passdog)
d20-1 (beaker)
Vote: Broomhead
3CB and 4CB5CB!You're logic is good, and I agree broomhead has acted scummy, but I now think a vote might be too hasty. Probably should let him post more than once before lynching him, eh?
I mean, "Our dear friend Jenny" (or however he wrote this) is so obviously a non-townie sentence, that it would never come from a mafia. It would be too obvious.
By the way, nobody can be "Not suspicious" by not posting. Not posting = Mod kill. It might be because of the site being down for a day.
P.S.
@ TWS: Thanks for being respectful.

Oops, my bad!

Broomhead-(Passdog, Chimpanzee)
[The Family]
I agree with the 3 mafia statement. It makes alot of sense. There are 11 players right now. I'd have to say around a quarter would be mafia, so that would be around three. There might be a cop, so there would probably be 7 townies left. A Doctor might be here too, which takes the count down to 6 townies, which makes alot of sense (IMO)
