Since returning from vacation Enigma, you have apologized for appearing to look like a lurker but you have continued to lurk. You have made two posts the contained very little in the way of content and none of it new. Imo, the case for Sorry Guy has all the earmarks of a townie who, either intentionally or unintentionally, has been pushing his own bandwagon towards a lynch. At this point in the game mafia rarely try to draw that much attention to themselves.
What makes you so confident from the beginning in SorryGuy's innocence ? Just that mafia wouldn't get caught that easily ?
That would apply to any Mafia being caught, so if we don't lynch suspicious people, who should we lynch ? Should we just as well go "No Lynch" ?
I never said that I was confident that Sorry Guy was innocent.
I said that the way he reacted and posted in such a way so as to encourage the bandwagon on him, makes me think he is something other then a mafia. It would be a very guts and reckless strategy for a mafia player to try. That’s my opinion anyway.
Who has even brought up the idea of a “no lynch” other then yourself? I certainly haven’t and in numerous games I have argued against the idea. I think this is the first game, thankfully, in the last several I’ve been in that no one has brought up the idea and suggested it be tried.
As I said, at this point we still have a couple of the same lurkers as we did at the beginning of the game, continuing to lurk and one that looks to be trying to fly under the radar with the few lines he has posted and the bandwagon he has jumped on. This strikes me as a more likely route for a mafia player to take and that’s why my vote is where it is.

My thoughts were that he claimed to be the main character from Solomon's Key. Never did he actually say the character's name- Dana. This leads me to believe that he just didn't do his homework on his claim. I'm still on the fence whether he is town or scum (or sk)
So, your point is that you prefer to vote a lurker rather than lynch a scummy-looking player ?
Puzzle, you seem to be either trying to misread my posts or simply not getting what I'm saying.

Well, not that it appears to matter, but Unvote. At this point I am completely undecided on SG. He either:
A.) Has a posting restriction that keeps him from being clear, among other things.
or
B.)Is faking said said restriction to cover his scummyness.
Either way he isn't going to come out and say "Hey, this is what's going on." I am leaning toward A, but need to go back and read his posts.

A.) Has a posting restriction that keeps him from being clear, among other things.
Question: since this isn't the first time it's been mentioned, is a posting restriction something that occurs in Mafia games? I'm not sure that I really understand what the point of it would, but is it something that happens from time to time? And if it's applicable in this case, then it would certainly explain his odd posting.
I guess it would be worthwhile to go back and look at his initial posts to see if this is possible, or if he dropped a hint about it earlier on. At the very least it would ensure we haven't overlooked something here.
I have played MANY mafia games on misetings, here, and on scum. I have personally had a restriction in which I had to vote EVERY post that I made. Azrael had one that limited the number of posts that he could make in a given day.
I have never seen a posting restriction that makes it impossible for you to make sense. One such as that would be far to subjective to be easily enforced.
@hawkeye: well I'll just have to revive your faith in me then won't I?
@Chucklez: don't discount the possibility that SG has no restriction at all and is a townie thats making no sense on purpose
@epeeguy:I have seen a few posting restrictions done before, and sometimes for you to be able to use a nightability you have to fufill a restriction, or sometimes I guess it's just a restriction. As for him leaving a hint about nothing but the completely unexplained posting of magic cards; seriously though, I didn't notice anything in his first few posts but I'm not exactly an expert on finding subliminal claims
My vote is still staying where it is but I have a few other suspicions if SG gives a full claim, which I obviously approve of, and a very good explanation for is unexplained posting. As a note we are up to 7 ppl that want all info from SG. unfos:puzzle, he sufficiently explained his reasoning so no more suspicions.
@Puzzle & Hawkeye: In the Mafia threads I've read through (LOTR, 7ED) usually the person who suggests No Vote, is Mafia, I might be misunderstanding you here Puzzle, but from the way I see it, you want Hawkeye to go No Vote...either that or you think his reasoning says "No Vote". Therefore, FOS: Puzzle & HAWKEYE7. Once this SG thing is over, someone here is going to be revealed, whether it goes wrong or not.

Point well taken, and that kind of restriction makes sense. Something that makes someone post in gibberish would be bizarre. Besides which, SG's initial posts did make a lot more sense. It was only the start of the third (or was it fourth) post he made that he started to be weird. Likewise, he's only made references to Magic cards in a couple of posts and such a restriction wouldn't make sense either in this game. Lastly, he not made consistent references to 8-bit games either. So, whatever he's doing is definitely intentional and not part of some restriction. Otherwise, why would he be able to control it, like he seems to be doing?
We'll see what he has to say if he decides to post. Maybe he will be more cooperative now with 9 votes on him. If not... well, I think that seals his fate.
1. Do you seriously think that Hawkeye7 or myself was advocating a day 1 no-lynch ?
2. In rare occasions, no lynch can be a valuable option.
3. I have never seen a Mafia suggest it, as it is only useful to give town an obvious advantage (3 town, 1 mafia left at end of day for example).
1. I was just making sure...maybe I jumped the gun a little bit.
2. I'm pleading n00b on this one
3. If I remember right...didn't the first lynch in LOTR (can't remember the person's name) vote No lynch? Which in turn caused a bandwagon lynch, (the person ended up being Mafia).
Crap, forgot...I'm gonna back away from my previous accusations. UNFOS: Puzzle & Hawkeye. I just misunderstood you and jumped the gun.
And why on earth would a townie do that on purpose ?
I don't know why he would I'm just suggesting it as a possibility

You really give me the impression of anticipating that SG will turn out townie, yet you vote for him. Should SG be a SK, I think I know who will be on the receiving end of my vote tomorrow.
Out of curiosity how am I giving you that impression? I have no clue what to expect SG to turn out to be, at the moment hes sorta acting like my name :slant:. What I'm trying to say is, is that he isn't making any sense to me so I don't know what he could be, He could have a posting restrictions which has been mentioned multiple times. He could be a mafia player making a big gambit. He could be a serial killer doing I have no clue what. Or he could be attempting to make himself appear to be a bad player, which was also brought up a while ago.
Finally, why would SG being an SK make you put your vote on me? that makes very little sense to me.
@ Jobie: no, the reason he was lynched was because, I think he ended up pushing for 3 different bandwagons at different points of day one which peaked peoples suspicions
Epeeguy: You misunderstood me. I'm not suspicious of you.
Wait... were you referring to Anhk and this post when you meant that? Now, that would be interesting...
But no, I was actually going to relax my suspicions of Anhk for the time being. IMO, his concern to ensure a correct lynch appears to be genuine, as opposed to me thinking he's trying to derail what may be a lynch on a mafia comrade. So unFOS Ankh-Morporkian for the time being. At least unless there's some bizarre development in the next few hours.
Oh, that one? Well, I'd already responded to Anhk here. I mean, my default claim is town. I mean, it may not mean much (since I don't know of anyone who comes out to claim mafia outright), but when the time comes, I'll do what I can to prove it.

I haven't mentioned it yet, but that was an on-the-spot panic reaction. I saw 3 votes in a row going on the same person, which smelled to me a lot like bandwagoning. Now that I think about it, I can see, like I said, that I'd simply panicked.

On sort of an unrelated note, has anyone ever gotten out from under the gun by lurking while 2 votes away from lynch? He had better have a hell of a claim when he gets back. If I see "vanilla townie" I may reach through my puter to slap him before we lynch him.
If he claims doc, I say any real doc shuts up and we lynch him. No need to expose a doc to lynch him.

Honestly though, I would suggest holding off on the lynch. We can take our time and examine whatever we need to. If it so demands, we can always lynch SG in the end.
I would be inclined to agree, if he hadn't been so difficult in just asking for basic information from him to ensure that he isn't lynched. I would never have voted for him had he basically indicated that he wasn't going to come clean, and why I believe that he'll either not come clean or just mess with us some more.
I don't care if we wait or not, but I think anything he does at this point is going to be moot. While he hasn't checked into the site in 2 days (unless he's checking it under an alias), it's not as if he couldn't have come clean sooner.
This is another point I would like to make pervent my lynch. Would mafia be as vocal as I have. I have as many posts as anyone and I have said alot. So much that inconsistencies come up. Why do you think the mafia do not post this much? Listen to Sensei and his top can don't vote Dana in 2005!
So, this is the last post that we have from SorryGuy. As I type this post, It has been approximately 59 hours since we have last heard from SorryGuy. The question that he raises seems to me to be a liast ditch effort. The fact that someone os vocal does not necessarily mean that they are a townie anymore than someone being quiet necessarily makes them mafia. This is a nice piece of Sicilian logic. If this were a game of find the lurkers because they are definitely mafia, it wouldn't be as fun.
The fact remains that inconsistencies have come up. This leads me to believe in SG's guilt. No matter how much a townie talks and changes his mind about certain game situations, inconsistencies chould never arise. Only scum have reason to lie.
I don't know why exactly SG seems to reference Sensei's Divining Top. I always try to remain a voice of reason in vote situations, but I think as Day One lynches go, this is almost as clear-cut as it gets.
I don't think that Puzzle's statement was too scummy. A doc for a mafia is not really a good trade for the town. If SG was the doc, I think we would have heard about it by now, but even if he does come forward and claim doc, how can we believe him?
To clarify : it may be a good trade if it was necessary. Considering the monstruous case of SorryGuy, I say it isn't : no need to expose the doc to confirm something so blatant as his scumminess.
He picked up on something that most of yuo did not. I think he knows alot about 8-Bit. But no Puzzle that does not mean I am mafia. It means I helping myself Day 1.
So bandwagon if you want. I have no reason to claim. My posts have been strange. I give that. There is reason for there strangeness. I may claim. I have no reason not to.
In the meanwhile, I'll refer you all to the first part of this post, SG referring to Puzzle. Anything you'd like to share, Puzzle? Unless it's classified information. We can lynch SG if you say so, and if he's Townie, we can lynch you next.
It is also possible that SG is mistaken. The best way to obtain information from someone is to pretend you already have it. But, Puzzle, if you have some information, please share it.
In the meanwhile, I'll refer you all to the first part of this post, SG referring to Puzzle. Anything you'd like to share, Puzzle? Unless it's classified information. We can lynch SG if you say so, and if he's Townie, we can lynch you next.
I had thought it was just the "hints" that SG had dropped in his message up until then. Of course, it's possible that there is something else there that may need to be disclosed to the town. Especially if it is something that might aid us in catching mafia. So, I have to agree with Einstein and LJustus on this; it may be wise to share that info Puzzle (that is, if you have anything to share, that you can share).
Guys, I have never seen such a blatant case on a day 1. I fished for lies and got them. What more do you want ? What more could we get?
That's fine. Like I said, I figured that it was just SG making a reference to you having picked up on the hints he'd dropped (and thinking about this a bit more, perhaps even a little suspicion on you as well). If there was more to it than that, then yeah it'd be nice to mention; but given SG's behavior, should we really trust any "observations" he's making about others?
Would it even be helpful to ask for a replacement for SorryGuy? If he acted that scummy then disappeared and turns out to be town, this whole game will be de-railed, and I for one will be calling for punishment.
Would it even be helpful to ask for a replacement for SorryGuy? If he acted that scummy then disappeared and turns out to be town, this whole game will be de-railed, and I for one will be calling for punishment.
You mean as in he deliberately sabotaged the game for the rest of us? Now that would suck indeed. I hope that's not the case at all. :slant:
If it is, could we even reliably get a replacement? Especially as our day one is just that screwed up?
Mod Note
For the record, SorryGuy did not inform me in advance of his absence; I can only assume it was unplanned. It's possible he will be replaced if he doesn't show up soon, though I don't know who would want to replace someone in this situation. Sorry for the unfortunate inconvenience, everyone.
For future reference: I post during weekdays only. I may break down and purchase a PC some time in the near future. I may post from a friend's place on weekends, but don't count on it.
So how long should we give SG to respond to this thread before we string him up. He hasn't posted ITT for 2 and a half days. Sup kettle. Should we give him until tonight at midnight as 3 days is a long time to be inactive. Also I will have no internet access this weekend as I will be camping.
Would it even be helpful to ask for a replacement for SorryGuy? If he acted that scummy then disappeared and turns out to be town, this whole game will be de-railed, and I for one will be calling for punishment.
I have not played in a game with SG before or seen him post in other threads, that I remember, but I ready did not get the impression from his posts in this game that he would maliciously do something like that.
Has anyone played with him in a mafia game before or know him from other threads?

This is a very odd situation.
The longer SG stays gone the more I doubt my thinking on him.
Even if a townie had posted like SG has and generated this much suspicion I'd think that they would stick around till they were lynched, if only to say "I Told You So."
Your point about only scum have a reason to lie is one well taken. There are those few rare occations when it is in the towns best interest that one of it's members tells a lie to keep valuable information from being revealed to the mafia, I did lie in Mythos Mafia about not having a kill ability that I used late in the game on the mafia, but the type of lies we have seen from SG are not that at all.
I hope that he turns up soon. If not let's have him replaced as soon as possible. Maybe SG let whatever game/plan he was trying get out of hand. Maybe he could not think of something to post that would answer the questions put to him in a way to derail the bandwagon. A new player might be able to do that.
If not, I'll have to conclude I was wrong and he's mafia who screwed up and got caught.

In the interest of keeping the game running smoothly, I will not be seeking a replacement for SorryGuy. Should he continue to be absent tomorrow as well, he will be struck down by modwrath and counted as the lynch for the day.
So you're going to end the day on your own? Why? That doesn't seem very fair. As annoying as it is that SG has neglected the game this way, and that nobody wants to put the last few votes on him, the town IS getting worthwhile information that we can use by tomorrow, once we know whether or not SG really was scum or not. Admittedly, the day's pretty much over, but I have to say that I'm going to be quite interested in finding out who those last few votes are going to come from. And this time, nobody can say, "Oh, well, I would have voted for him, but the lynch was over by the time I got to check the thread," once he turns up as scum. That's a good thing, even if it takes a while, since we're still running the mafia out of choices for explanantions of poor/scummy behavior. Ending the day early is depriving the town of important information.
What?! Look at the initial post; he is dead. Deceased. Kaputt. Indefinitely horizontal. In mafia games, you see, people are occasionally "killed off," and when that sad event occurs, he or she is no longer allowed to post, on account of rigor mortis and what-have-you.
'Welcome to Mafia Salvation', it said, 'Population: 3,660.' And someone, they never figured out who, had painted on the sign in red letters: '1,831 to lynch.'
If the town is interested in continuing the day, that's fine with me, but the past day has been mostly empty posts, with everyone sitting around waiting for SG. Players are asked not to suddenly disappear for extended periods of time, and if SG continues to be gone, he will be qualified for a modkill/replacement.
I would prefer that I don't have to end the day like this, but the game seems to have stalled.
I think we're all sick and tired of waiting for SorryGuy, but instead of putting the final vote on him now, I'm going to wait 1 hour 10 minutes or so. At that time, my clock will read midnight. If SorryGuy hasn't posted by then, I will vote for him. If he posts at 12:01 by my clock, too bad for him. Harsh, maybe, but at least the game will continue with him gone. If he was the mod...

I don't know why he would I'm just suggesting it as a possibility
I don't know why he keeps posting the names of magic cards, apart from his explanation that it doesn't mean anything which very well could be the case

Dangit, I haven't gotten as much time on the comp as I would like. Sorry for lack of content.
Wait... were you referring to Anhk and this post when you meant that?
On another note, SG, unless you claim in the next 2 hours, you've got my vote.
That's how to remember my name. Or, you could just read the Discworld Novels by Terry Pratchett. I recommend the second method.:)
And dear god, it's on the INTERNET! It has to be true!
...riight.

Honestly though, I would suggest holding off on the lynch. We can take our time and examine whatever we need to. If it so demands, we can always lynch SG in the end.

That's a scummy thing to say.
Just saying.
*Axelrod twidles thumbs*
I would be inclined to agree, if he hadn't been so difficult in just asking for basic information from him to ensure that he isn't lynched. I would never have voted for him had he basically indicated that he wasn't going to come clean, and why I believe that he'll either not come clean or just mess with us some more.
I don't care if we wait or not, but I think anything he does at this point is going to be moot. While he hasn't checked into the site in 2 days (unless he's checking it under an alias), it's not as if he couldn't have come clean sooner.
Definitely not on day one.
*sigh*
Guess it's going to be a long wait for SG...
You mean as in he deliberately sabotaged the game for the rest of us? Now that would suck indeed. I hope that's not the case at all. :slant:
If it is, could we even reliably get a replacement? Especially as our day one is just that screwed up?
I can't imagine that he would do such a thing.
He's only been gone 2 days, which isn't completely unheard of.
Alright Puzzle, I guess there's really no need to inquire any more.

I Forgot FOS: SorryGuy
