Before we begin, I'm laying down some familiar ground rules.
1) Role-play is heavily, heavily encouraged. I can't stress this enough.
2) In combat, I'm not gonna wait forever for people to post--a days' length, at most. The easiest way to reduce waiting is to allow everyone in the party to make their actions immediately, regardless of initiative, then it'll fall into place in initiative order--if you want to wait to see what happens, that's your perogative. I understand real life might get in the way--if it does, just drop me a PM. Talk to me and we'll avoid misunderstandings.
3) I reserve the right to be mean and unfair to you--99% of the time it's because you did something that's NOT cool.
4) Keep in mind, this campaign is converted from a 2nd Edition AD&D campaign printed almost 20 years ago.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~The Secret of the Silver Blades~~~~~~~~~~~~
You and your allies have been adventuring together for almost two years. You all came from different corners of Faerun, joining together at the city of New Phlan, a city besieged by a ruthless warlord. The city charged you to clear it, and you did, becoming heroes. You defeated the Fire Lord Tyranthraxus, a malevolent spirit from the Elemental Plane of Fire. A servant of Bane, Tyranthraxus had completely dominated the body of a Gold Dragon. The Flamed One travelled through the mystical Pool of Radiance, a fabled magic pool that would appear in random places on Faerun. Original lore said it was a pool graced by the power of Mystra. But it was stolen by Bane, and graced to Tyranthraxus, his general. Tyranthraxus used the pool to trick the dragon, and the party defeated him, but Tyranthraxus fled, swearing revenge.
After the heroes liberated Phlan, they travelled southwards, towards Cormyr, but were waylaid near Tilverton. There they were captured and branded with five magical Azure symbols, each a powerful curse that made the party the puppets of different factions: The Fire Knives, a guild of malicious anarchic thieves; Dracandros, a renegade Red Wizard of Thay, obsessed with dragons; The fanatical Cultists of Moander, the dead god of decay and dead plants; The leader of Zhentil Keep, Fzoul Chembryl, who had wanted to use the curse to control the populace; and Tyranthraxus himself, who had organized the curse. The only way to remove the curse? Ancient artifacts of older powers: The Gauntlets of Moander, the Helm of Dragons, and the Blade of Lathander.
Along the way, the party encountered many dangers and gained many friends--including the Arcanist Alacar Leoricar, who became enamoured with Aliiryn Sha'dar. They met the unique constructed human, Alias, and her Saurial companion, Dragonbait, as well as the cheeky halfling rogue and bard-wannabe, Olive Ruskettle, as well as Princess Nacacia, the daughter of King Azoun of Cormyr. The party has just entered the Ruins of Myth Drannor, convincing the Rakashas who live just around Tyranthraxus's Temple to enter. Inside, the party battled through the Fire Lord's army of gargoyles to confront their enemy. Tyranthraxus had taken the body of an immense Fire Giant, and their battle was close--but they eventually landed the killing blow. They thought this would be the end of their adventure. Little did they know it was just the beginning of another one.
"No!" Tyranthraxus screamed, the fire giant stumbled, coughing blood and grabbing his wounds. The injuries had become too much to sustain. He cried out in anguish as he knew his revenge would be thwarted. The party, battered, bruised, and bloodied, but still alive, had won. The Flamed One, his hair and beard crackling with magic fire, screamed an unholy cry before falling over, toppling into the wall and crashing it open, the old moss-covered stones of thousands of years smashing into the open jungle air of Myth Drannor. His flames began to extinguish as a gust of warm air blew in. The party felt the last sigil on their arms burn and wriggle as the last Azure Bond was removed. At last, the party was free, as the artifacts they had collected glowed, drawing their bearers towards the Pool of Radiance.
Instinctively, the party threw the artifacts into the Pool.. and the flaming spirit of Tyranthraxus screamed, tearing out of the twitching dead body of the giant, flying into the Pool.
"No!! This cannot be! My revenge!! Damn you! Damn you all! I will get you! I can succeed! Bane!! Don't do this to me!!!" Tyranthraxus screamed, cursing the party as they saw a black vortex open above the pool, sucking up the water, with the spirit still inside. The void closed and the pool was no more than a bare, dry pit. That was the last the party would see of Tyranthraxus.
Even as they looked at each other, smiling and recovering, Alacar moved to Aliiryn and embraced her, even as they were injured. He was so happy.. she was free. They were free.
Suddenly, in a flash and a puff of smoke, a familiar old man appeared in front of the group. He wore red, with a long oak staff and a long pipe. His red, wide-brimmed hat wasn't hiding his smiling, proud face. Elminster the Sage--the man who they had entrusted with the red dragon egg they found back in Shadowdale, after finding it in Dracandros's Tower.
(Roleplay your character's description, their reaction to the defeat, and Elminster's arrival. Also, bonus points to anyone who IDs a song from the soundtrack.)
Aliiryn smiles- for the first time in almost a week.
"Damn the thing, damn Bane, damn it ALL..." Her mouth gapes open, noting Elminster's arrival.
"Um, hello."
He'd better keep his hands to himself.
"Is everyone okay? Did it get you? Orvel, you'd better not be playing around..."
Aliiryn pushes long golden hair out of her eyes, wincing a bit at a few singed pieces. Her green eyes dance with relief at finally being free of the Bonds, and she looks for her allies, almost desperately it seems.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.
A flash of power and the ringing of energy pulsing through the minds of everyone around, brings another to the party, not seemingly there before.
His body no taller than most, yet the aura about him made him feel distant. Feeling the pulse of energy move around him, he begins looking around, seeing everyone standing there and the pool nearby.
His blue eyes stare hard at the pool of radience before moving to each individual near it. His small form barely able to hold the staff in his hands, he looks at everyone with cold eyes, as though his very thoughts were piercing their bodies.
"What happened here with all of this energy?" he asks looking to the obvious leader of their group.
It is then that you all realize that you are all almost naked. Nothing of your gear can be found, save for your undergarments, if any. The air is cold, and the wind bites your skin. Did Elminster trick you??
The men look at you and gruffly complain. "This is what is sent to us.. gods help us. Get in, and don't ask questions. You'll be told all you need to know." The men are large and strong looking, with thick black beards and dark skin, almost like dwarves.
Alacar yelps and goes for the cart, grabbing a pelt and wrapping up, getting into the one next to Aliiryn's. "Hey! What the hell is this?? We lose all of our money, our clothes, our gear.. and we're stuck in the middle of.. where are we??" He asks one of the men as they collect the party and cover them.
They look gruff and not too happy to be out here. "You're in the Dragonspine Mountains. A few miles from New Verdigris." He explains.
(Anyone with Knowledge skills can roll to see if they know anything.)
"Why are we here?? We were supposed to go back home for a rest!" Alacar complained. "Or at least somewhere comfortable."
Planes: Yes you are on the Prime.
Arcana: If this is the Dragonspine, it's full of ancient magics. This area in particular, what they called 'Verdigris' is not known of in magic texts.
History: Aliiryn can't recall hearing of any place called Verdigris, New or Old.
Dungeoneering: There are numerous mines, caves, and dungeons throughout the Dragonspine--New Verdigris will likely have one, especially if there used to be an Old Verdigris.
The men grumble. "You'll see..." They make sure everyone is covered from the cold air before starting back, carting each of you in a wheelbarrow.
(Edit: Local: Tales tell of a mining town called New Verdigris--it's relatively new in the Dragonspine, but it's been successful.)
They look gruff and not too happy to be out here. "You're in the Dragonspine Mountains. A few miles from New Verdigris." He explains.
(Anyone with Knowledge skills can roll to see if they know anything.)
"Why are we here?? We were supposed to go back home for a rest!" Alacar complained. "Or at least somewhere comfortable."
The men shrugged. One muttered something. "Because the well has a strange sense of humor." He growled.
(I don't wanna move it ahead too far from this spot without Sep posting at least once. Feel free to keep talking.)
Psionics=Does the mind tinge with thoughts around here?
Arcana=Does magic permete the borders of the area other than the fact we teleported here?
Planes=Are there lingering energies or ties to other worlds around here?
"Why are we here to help you?" Alaster asks glancing at Aliiryn only for a moment.
"We completed our job and it is time for us to go" he shifts his seat a moment and pulls another fur over him.
"Though I must admit, my mind can use the meditation of solitude from this place, but I would rather adventure freely with my friends"
Fall of the Draco King Notes
My Characters:
Arcana: If this is the Dragonspine, it's full of ancient magics. This area in particular, what they called 'Verdigris' is not known of in magic texts.
History: Aliiryn can't recall hearing of any place called Verdigris, New or Old.
Dungeoneering: There are numerous mines, caves, and dungeons throughout the Dragonspine--New Verdigris will likely have one, especially if there used to be an Old Verdigris.
(Edit: Local: Tales tell of a mining town called New Verdigris--it's relatively new in the Dragonspine, but it's been successful.)
"How long till we get to this New-Verdigris?" he asks laying back and letting his mind wander to regain his mental might.
"I was just asking to clarify for future reference, thats all" he pulls another fur over him to keep the chill from numbing his body or other regions.
