Shal's martial training kicks in instinctively, her mastery of the mind fortifying her body's response to resist any attacks aimed at her physical self.
Shal uses the maneuver Mind over Body. Instead of a standard Fort save, she makes a Concentration check against the DC of the Fortitude save. A natural 1 doesn't result in automatic failure as it normally would with a saving throw.

Shal takes several steps forward, her rapier lashing out at the spectre. As she strikes, the blue skull gem at the pommel of her rapier glows slightly in the presence of an undead creature. Shal's sword seems to glitter with blue flashes of reflected light as it blurs toward the spirit.
Shal's rapier is Ghost Touch due to the Greater Truedeath crystal. It can also critical hit undead.

Trying to make sure I have a grip of the situation: Is the alley an expected rectangle w/ only the entrance being the one we came from? And how far is Orell and the woman from Shal, Baendurn, and the ghost?

Baendurn quickly draws Bautugothat while sidestepping to set up a flank, motionion towards an Iajutsu-style attack directly out of the sheath, but instead feinting and spinning around quickly before striking with arcane might, maintaining the momentum but hopefully catching the spectre off-guard. He follows with another strike, driving his bluff home.

Shal ponders what just happened as she sheathes her sword at her hip. The ghost looked very much like the crying woman. Her sitting and crying on the ground would tend to support the theory that she wasn't actually dead.
Hm... Shal muses. What could cause a spirit who looked exactly this woman to manifest?
Shal blinks as an idea forms in her mind, then she crouches down near the woman. "It's alright, you're safe. I need to ask you a question so we can help you. Do you have a twin sister?"

The woman stops shaking, but her face is bloodless and she says nothing, staring at Orell and Shal blankly.
Baendurn sees three armored men rush up to the alley. The one in the lead at first appears to be swaggering, but upon closer examination the gait resembles more a drunken saunter. His armor is tarnished and there appears to be food in his beard. Behind him, one of the other men has paper-thin skin, white hair and a confused expression while his companion, handsome except for a snarl on his face, glares at you while they make their way into the alley. They are deep into some conversation which they continue for a bit after looking around, ignoring you after passing a glance over you once.
“Well,” The drunken man in the front slurs guilelessly; “I told him that if the Baron saw fit to put him in his employ he certainly should have the dignity to not ask me for a loan.”
“No,” The handsome man corrected icily; “What you told him is that the Baron did not hire him to be a whore, as I recall.”
“What?” The oldest of the three says, cupping his ear. He appears to be senile.
“Yes, that's exactly what I said,” The drunken man responded.
“Did you now?” The older man said, apparently trying to seem like he was following the conversation.
“I don't trust him in any case,” The haughty man said coolly; “He's an upstart who came here one day and managed to worm his way into the Baron's confidence for reasons beyond my fathoming. Glumdrug was livid. Well, that is, more than usual...”
"I don't like liver, either," The old man grumbles.
"Anyway," The drunken leader says with a slight stumble; "Ghost is gone. These strangers probably involved, I guess."
"Yes," The cold-eyed man says sourly; "Nothing to see here, then. You people move along."
Orell knows that ghosts are the souls of the deceased trapped in an ethereal body. They are typically unable to move on from the ethereal plane because something ties them to the material plane, usually relating to their death. This particular ghost seemed to be in denial, and also in a violent state of confusion given the way she attacked the group. She and the woman definitely seem connected in some way.
The ghost will likely return again after having been vanquished.
Tal'mek snorts in disdane at the gaurds. "A town protected by drunkards and supposedly no undead." He pauses a moment for the gaurds to almost speak, then interupts. "Still, I guess there is no reason to stay, the drunks can handle a woman who saw a ghost."
I went through the spell compendium and have picked some choice spells, just gotta figure out which ones i am actually memorizing, aslo has there been any trouble with my tiger walking around town with me?

She knows nothing about this phenomenon, and blinks. There are very few subjects Shal hasn't read about, at least a little. And her knowledge of the arcane is fairly comprehensive. If this is some kind of mystical effect, it's something Shal is completely unfamiliar with, which sends chills down the drow's spine. Drawn here under false pretences, surrounded by strangers, and now apparently in the midst of some kind of local curse or spell. Note to self: Trust your instincts next time and leave before you get caught in stuff like this. "The... the Weirding?" She asks the aged guard. "What is it? We just entered the city and haven't heard of it before."

"If it happens all the time, we should probably get moving then" says Baendurn to the rest of the party. Moving away from the guards and lowering his voice, he adds "these fellows aren't the most reliable sources of information. The Baron may be privvy to give us his version of the story."
Baendurn suppresses a chuckle, but otherwise does not react to the guard's challenge. A more proud man might take offense, but the masked man knows where the true power lies.
"Hm," Shal says, not at all comforted by the knowledge of what the Weirding is.
Well of course it would be disturbing, Shal attempts to rationalize. Nobody wants to be reminded of their own mortality, especially not by something that can actually cause your death. No wonder this place has gon to ruin. Everyone is terrified. Those that aren't apparently get drunk so they can be distracted from it.
She realizes that she's trying to logically explain her fear, but that doesn't help to alleviate it. It actually makes it worse, somehow.
Fortunately, all this goes on in her head. On the outside, Shal remains calm and collected. "Your own ghosts... Do these ghosts attack their living counterpart, or just those around them?" Shal knows that this question is simply her attempt to banish fear with knowledge, and that it probably won't help much. But still, it's a question worth knowing the answer to.

"Oh, they don't always attack," The drunken guard slurs thoughtfully; "But it's right disturbing. They're usually not too happy. It's when you get pulled into the Weirding that it gets really dangerous."
"'Pulled into' the Weirding," Shal asks, resigning herself to the knowledge that things will apparently just keep getting worse. Maybe I should throw the Baron out the nearest window when we meet him...
